Would you take your waifu's surname? Anonymous 03/27/2018 (Tue) 00:03:48 No. 66946
Or would you let her take yours? If so, how it would turn out? I'do probably take hers, i wouldn't mind being called "Mr.Hakurei" I don't know how to explain it, i feel somehow very close and attached to my waifu's surname also 'cause it sounds cool
As much I wanna raise a family with Yang. I don't think she's happy with my surname, so I'm alright having hers.
Her name is connected to the mob family she comes from, so I feel like I'd just be shot up by their rival family if I was known as a Medici.
>>67072 I guess it's similar, but I don't think shrine maidens need a direct male or female bloodline. Also keep in mind that shrine maidens are, well, maidens. She wouldn't realistically remain a shrine maiden after getting married or even having children. This in turn means that she couldn't possibly get directly succeeded by her own daughter. It's really unlikely that Hakurei would even work as a solely patrilineal or matrilineal surname, but the same can be said about Konpaku. Maybe Hakurei is just the title of the current shrine maiden? I don't see a point in having a whole family dedicated to Hakurei with none of them seemingly living anywhere near Hakurei shrine.
>>67075 So you are implying she was choosen to become a shrine maiden instead of being inherited. It's a possibility considering Reimu is an orphan. However this doesn't explain most of her nature given abilities she was born with, personally i believe most of those powers are more likely to be from a heritage, but that's just my theory. Besides the Hakurei surname may be something she'll have until she dies, i don't see it the other way around.
>>67081 I didn't even know that Reimu was a foundling, but in that case there's also the possibility that she was found around Hakurei shrine and therefore named after Hakurei. In any case, it's all speculation. ZUN should really start to develop his characters' lores a bit more. It's really surprising that there are even so many uncertainties about Reimu.
>>67082 Ye, Zun should explain lots of shit and start answering some questions already. IIRC he said during an interview that he actually knows a lot of facts about the lore, but prefers to keep them confidential and only shares them with his closest friends. It really gets on my nerves sometimes.
>>67082 >>67083 I agree. Expecially for non-main characters - so almost everyone - the lore is so small that it's kinda frustrating at times. I still like the idea of leaving out stuff to interpretation for fans, but sometimes it's too much. Meiling is a good example: canon is almost nothing for her, really slim infos. I still love your work tho, ZUN. No hard feelings.
>>67142 It's not even that the lore is small. Many character profiles contain a lot of information. Youmu, even before being a playable character, got that whole backstory with Youki disappearing despite having nothing to do with the actual story. ZUN's lore is filled with mysteries, but he refuses to expand upon it. Until PoFV ZUN was still invested in developing his characters. Imperishable Night had 8 playable characters and, although not fully implemented, four of them (Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Youmu) were meant to be Stage 4 bosses. IaMP followed featuring many characters from the first two games of the Windows era. And finally we got PoFV with its incredible roster of characters. But beginning with MoF things changed with ZUN focusing almost exclusively on introducing new characters. That may have kept the series interesting for a while, but in recent years the relative popularity of newly introduced characters has been in steady decline. He also got much lazier: MoF only had two playable characters and was the first game to have those uncolored sketches as ending screens. The first part of the MoF interview in the latest volume of Strange Creators of Outer World is also relevant, especially the "anti-series" part: https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Strange_Creators_of_Outer_World/Introduction_of_Previous_Works/Mountain_of_Faith/Mountain_of_Faith_Interview_with_ZUN Basically, ZUN thinks that giving fans what they want would be counterproductive to the sustainability of the fandom. With mysteries unraveled the content itself ceases to be interesting. While there certainly is some truth to his argument, I personally think that's just a sign of bad writing. I think the EoSD 2 he mentions would be a great idea. It could be used to give us more background information about the SDM team and maybe even add another character to it. I don't see how it could possible be detrimental in the long run. Essentially, he isn't even just ignoring fans but intentionally opposing them. We used to have a lot of lore discussions in Touhou communities, but in recent years it feels like most of the remaining fanbase has grown tired of his shit.
>>67165 While I certainly admit that I'd like very much to know more about all the misteries surrounding Touhou - and I still complain about this, so I agree to that too - , I can't go that hard against ZUN honestly. I agree with him - one of the major factors that made me a huge fan of Touhou is the mystery factor. All the theories, speculations, and possible plot connections. It's what makes his work so unique. He is going at it too much, that's right. But the basic idea is ok. And I don't think it's a sign of 'bad writing', is a choice. It's basically the complete opposite of Oda's approach on One Piece, where everything is canon and fully detailed (it's almost frightening how every single character has even a birthday and a zodiac sign). So yeah he should open up a bit, but not too much. One thing I'd love to see is more focus on already existing characters yes, and less creation of new ones. That is certainly a point! I'd LOVE to see another Touhou entry on the SDM goddamn. Will he ever do it? Hope so. With other characters too, eh. It's just a good idea, to expand your universe more. And maybe giving Touhou a new surge of vitality.
I do in video games but my friends bully me for it. Really though I'm open to the idea but Peko's traditional as hell so she'd insist on my unpronounceable tire fire of a name
I would, being a commoner and marrying an aristocrat her last name is probably more significant than mine is.
>>66946 I would more than happily take her surname
Given she has no canon surname, she'd have to take my last name.
I definitely intend to become Mrs. Kaiba officially one day in real life.
Too late, she took mine.
>>68219 Nice
I think I'm the only one left in the immediate family that has this name and I'd be a little sad to see it disappear. Knowing her, she might be tempted to drop hers, too. That said, I still wouldn't mind taking hers.
I think I'd want her to take my surname. After all, Satanichia Kurumizawa Mcdowell is already ridiculous enough with its surname.
I'd love to be Mrs. Arlert.
Miia either doesn't have one, or it hasn't been shown. In MGE, lamia all live in tribes usually with one man, so I imagine the tribes may just have a shared tribe name since they're all probably related. Miia is one of the firsts that is getting away from that tradition, so she would probably just take my last name.
what do I do if my waifu doesn't have a name
>>69551 Then you probably don't belong here.
>>69549 I don't know why I said MGE, I meant EMG Huge difference
>>69553 she's a 2D anime girl… but she's a robot and her name is just a bunch of random numbers and letters
Absolutely! Lacroix is a great last name.
>>66946 There'd be no greater honor than to be referred to as Mr. Ayanami
I feel she would probably take my name since it is more traditional(?) to do that. Also as >>66961 said, her name sound western so it wouldn't be that awkward. Hell, my first name is uncommon so it would be less awkward for her than me.
Rem doesn't have a surname, so she'd have to take mine, but I'd be more than happy to take hers if she had one.
Both my surname and "Yamaguchi" are fine, although I'd prefer slightly more to have hers.
Definitely! When/it we get married, I'll gladly take it Gonna be a couple years before that happens, though
If Emilia had a surname I'd gladly take it, but, unfortunately, she has no surname in canon. So I guess she'd be taking mine.
Yes, but not because I'm pussywhipped or anything, Mordred is the rightful heir to the throne by virtue of being a Pendragon, the king can't exactly change surnames due to marriage. It's a British surname and I like it anyway, so it wouldn't be out of place.
Lockhart's a great name so I'd take it
Yes! Someday, when we get married I'll be Mrs. Futatsuiwa! Using Mamizou's surname makes more sense to me. Mine would sound weird with her first name.
Slavic and Japanese names put together sound awful. So I wouldn't want her to take my name or for me to take hers.
I would be fine either way really. I'd probably end up taking her name since her family is rich and famous. I like them both as names by themselves, though I'm not sure if my first name would sound right with hers attached to it, I think her own name doesn't sound so bad with my last name, since if you stretch it enough it even sounds like a pun with her last name, it's not kurogane, but it works.
