This board is intended to be a place for the discussion of peer-to-peer technology. This includes things like BitTorrent and IPFS. In particular, I'd like to have a place where people can discuss the potential for a p2p imageboard, something that has been often talked about but not yet created. So you can consider this board a staging ground for the creation of a p2p imageboard, and also a place to talk about p2p technology in general.

Which is the best?

OrbitDB Anonymous 07/25/2022 (Mon) 15:30:01 No. 2 [Reply]
A very interesting project that could be used to create a p2p imageboard is OrbitDB: https://orbitdb.org/ Currently in alpha, it uses IPFS to store mutable databases. Instead of a monolithic databse for the entire "site", each post could be its own OrbitDB database, and would be seeded by the OP and other users. Each thread would be its own database, and have references to the individual post databases. Likewise for boards. I do recommend checking it out if you're interested. I've yet to see an attempt at a p2p imageboard that makes use of OrbitDB, but it seems like a promising solution.
Got any diagrams or videos showcasing this?
>>2 I saw your post on /b/ wishing for a p2p image board. It already exists, and the code is open source. How much experience do you have with servers? You can make a room server on your own device. Or rent a VPS server on the cloud to host your virtual room. It has better security than tor, no middle man attacks are possible, no ip's can be seen. It works with a free app on phone or computer, and almost any OS. I'm going food shopping and will be back in about 1 hour, then we can continue.
No one uses this board, so it's useless making any more comments about this topic?
