But they probably don't get things like why it takes place in Detroit or why the androids are placed in the back of the buses. I imagine it's a similar feeling to watching historical anime, like samurai anime, where you may not get the full connection and context that a Japanese person may get out of the show, but you still feel drawn and entertained by it nonetheless.
