Meta thread Anonymous 09/23/2024 (Mon) 15:57:15 No. 53806
Hello. Sorry for taking up a thread. You can delete it asap but if possible I'd like a way to contact the fellows who own this board. I got a suggestion that I should ask how you guys succeeded in building a community here (iirc, you came to 8chan, then went back to 4chan for a bit, then came back here?) I'd love to hear about your experiences.
>>53806 Not the BO but kekchan is literally blocked where I'm at lmao so I'm just here to talk about my oshis and streams sometimes.
>>53809 Sucks to hear that it's blocked, but it's nice that you can come here to chat!
>>53806 99% of the community is still on 4chan, even I sometimes post on both sites at the same time when watching a stream. Main reason why there's been some success in forming a small community is some think posting here to get away from the bullshit of the other site is worth the tradeoff of much less posting activity.
>>53815 I see! Is there anything in particular you did to let people know about this place, btw?
Oh, and is there anything in particular you are doing to maintain the fun community here?
>>53929 The original owner and a few other anons posted about this board in the original 4chan community at first. Overtime it slowed down and eventually stopped because posting about this site causes arguments, comes off as desperate and gives opportunity for shitposters to stir shit even more within the community.
>>53933 I see. By the way, wouldn't you get banned for posting about it in 4chan? And they slowed down on that over time huh? I see. Thank you.
>>53936 >wouldn't you get banned for posting about it in 4chan? You could get banned for anything there really
>>53931 only a regular user but the mod (mods?) here do their job, warn when needed and and sanction when warnings don't work, unlike the other place where mods seems to assist the shitposters into making the board a shitfest. Also threads here are slower, i don't have to backread through 1k+ posts roleplay, shitposts, offtopic discussions about random topics to get the few news of the day about the livers.
>>53806 I'm the current BO but not he original one, they bailed a long time ago and i just took over since there was no moderation. From my point of view, any conversation about our specific niche of the hobby has been tainted by many bad actors that make everywhere but here kind of unusable, some people might argue the discords are a good way to interact with the community but i also believe that having a "friendly mod" turns everything into a bootlicking competition to see who becomes friends with the mod to get power over the general group, this is why i don't really like using my BO tag that much unless needed, the tag means i just moderate and reply to things when asked but when i want to just chat about our hobby I'm just another anon here. On the why we still maintain a community here, i think it took some very specific circumstances for an exodus with a good amount of people, that and also there was an anon in charge of projects done for the community that migrated here and vouched for the place. After that just keeping things on topic, handing warnings when seen appropriate and treating everyone like adults has made a good community altogether, there's some bumps here and there sometimes but i trust people don't post maliciously, those who do end up permabanned. Although i don't know clearly why you're asking these questions i assume you want to establish your own community in this site maybe? And take some of the people from halfchan? Our circumstances were very specific for this change to be done so that you know for reference the main factors were (and I'm gonna repeat myself a little here) >The /vt/ board had very biased moderation that treated our community bad on purpose >The good posters were getting banned for fighting shitposters >The thread was garbage and, even though there were good people, most of the posting became shitposting or fighting shitposters >A thread personality vouched for this site and board >Talks about coming here were made when all the factors above were met during a few threads >During several weeks i had to keep an eye on the board to moderate all the shitposters that tried to start something, always remember that them changing IP takes them longer than you banning them permanently >Some projects were made here like watchalongs of events or even silly April Fools stuff >Even if there's nobody replying, never stop posting (not spamming, just posting about on topic things) because that keeps the threads active I hope this has helped and sorry for the huge wall of text

>>53984 What do you mean by sanction? >unlike the other place where mods seems to assist the shitposters into making the board a shitfest what a shame about that. Thank you for the answer. >>54019 >any conversation about our specific niche of the hobby has been tainted by many bad actors that make everywhere but here kind of unusable Yeah, every platform, based on its characteristics, encourages different kinds of horrible behavior. > i also believe that having a "friendly mod" turns everything into a bootlicking competition to see who becomes friends with the mod to get power over the general group Huh, any ideas on how to mitigate this? I don't want to believe that friendliness has to be bad by default... > i don't really like using my BO tag that much unless needed Makes sense! I've been trying to avoid putting it on too. > an exodus and an anon in charge of projects [...] I see, it sounds like things lined up for a good number of anons to start coming here. > i don't know clearly why you're asking these questions I own the /wsj/ board here which I created because I'm unsatisfied with 4/a/ in general (but especially the shonen threads there are completely unmoderated). An anon suggested I hear you guys out to learn from your example, and it has been very informative. >Even if there's nobody replying, never stop posting (not spamming, just posting about on topic things) because that keeps the threads active This is really helpful, I'm a bit busy for a bit but I'll get to doing that regularly as soon as I can. As for the other conditions you mentioned, actually, the shonen threads/shonen jump threads on /a/ share almost all of those conditions on halfchan - although there's not really any thread personalities who can vouch for this site. Right now I'm basically just posting about the new board when I can here and there. Thank you for the wall of text, it was a great read. Thanks for being chill.
>>54120 You're welcome, I hope your community can migrate the good actors little by little, it's truly wonderful what a nice community can be made here and as for >"Huh, any ideas on how to mitigate this? I don't want to believe that friendliness has to be bad by default..." You become more an entity than anything, some jokes here and there won't hurt but don't say "i like x or y" because people will start figuring you out, try to find out who you are or even just make their own headcannons on who you could be, don't say things like "went for dinner/lunch" or whatever that can indicate a timezone or when you're active because people will get a hold on when they can act up and do whatever they want. In short, you're an entity watching over things, nobody knows who you are, nobody knows when you're watching, nobody knows how to befriend you, etc. This doesn't mean you can't act friendly to everyone in the board and have normal conversations but I'd apply all that to when you use the BO tag
>>54186 > I hope your community can migrate the good actors little by little Me too!! Thank you for the kind words. > You become more of an entity [...] when you use the BO tag Thank you for the advice! All of that makes sense. This has been super helpful.
