>Koishi-themed adventure horror game
I played it. Wew, lad.
It's made in Electron (aka castrated browser for JS
(((programmers)))), so it lags like shit, people on Steam complain it doesn't run on their 999 core threadrippers unless they restrict it to one core, in my case it refused to run on my laptop altogether, I suspect because of integrated graphics.
The music is atmospheric but not something I would listen to outside of the game (save for a 3 second sample of reversed violin Cinderella cage in the bamboo forest cutscene).
The gameplay is kind of like Fran Bow ultra-lite edition. The game is supposed to be a quest that requires you to solve puzzles using your third eye while also managing it's irritation with eyedrops, but the only parts where you actually use it are chapters 1 and 4 (and even then you're "using" it along the lines of "talk to npc->he tells you to fuck off->blink 3d eye and talk to npc"). If you run out of eyedrops (which you won't because they respawn either when you reenter the area or when you load, I don't remember) Koishi will fall over and instantly respawn in the same room with a doll marking the place where she died. Dolls do nothing other than saying random CrEePy lines and disappearing when you leave the room. The game's signature mechanic feels kind of like a tack-on to be honest. The puzzles are also "talk to everyone->pick up items->flash 3rd eye to pick up invisible items->talk to everyone in 3rd eye if you're still stuck".
The story is primarily served metaphorically through SpOoOkY psychology book excerpts and is kind of shit even by Koishi's heart-throbbing adventure standards. I'll save you the trouble of picking up randomly scattered invisible toilet paper:
Satori sisters' shitty parents neglected them until Satori learned to talk, then abandoned Koishi when her sister started showing signs of promise. Koishi now has to overcome her trauma and suppressed hatred towards her sister.
There are 3 endings, the good and the neutral one you can pick between as the final choice and the true ending is basically failed neutral.
Translation seems like someone
tried to polish it after copy-pasting it from LEC Power Translator, but it's that godawful type of polished where I couldn't tell if the translation was shit and the story actually makes sense or if the translation was correct but the story is shit. Maybe the whole game will actually be 10/10 if you play in nip.
The art is great. Kotoinari should have made a visual novel.
So, only play it if you're a big fan of Kotoinari or Koishi's heart-throbbing adventure.
