Hello everyone. I have come to check how the celebrations are going on and it looks like Chobitsu is doing a pretty good job. Thanks for taking care of this board this year, and I want to wish everyone who has passed by here: メリークリスマス!

>>3466 This is bury nice fish.
>>3466 >>3467 Heh, Merry Christmas Anon. :D
>>3466 wow that is nice fish
>>3387 Sorry, I didn't check this thread again until now. Maybe I can invite them next year. I know /christmas/ isn't over yet, but Christmas is.
>>3499 No worries Anon, entirely my fault! This is my first time doing this. All things being equal, hopefully next year we'll all be a little more organized about the invitations. Cheers. :)
>>3499 Eh, Christmas still has the 12 days going til Fri, Jan 5, 2024, and Orthodox celebrate Christmas Sun, Jan 7, 2024. But the /christmas/ event seems more or less over for the year.
>>3507 Although don't forget about /vhs/s New Years stream.
>>3501 You made it seem much more enjoyable and lively than last ye a r, in any case.

>>3507 >But the /christmas/ event seems more or less over for the year. Please pardon the impertinence anons, but /christmas/ is now a Christmas and New Years Festival! THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED :DD Regardless, we were already intending to keep /christmas/ 'open for business' until the Orthodox Christmas went by anyway. Can't forget our Orthobros!! >>3508 This. Any other boards are free to contribute additional New Years -celebrating streams, and they will be added into the OP ITT as well. >>3509 /christmas/ is always fun though! Wasn't too hard either since the previous BOs established such good relations with the Internets beforehand. I would like to see it grow in size though; I think the key here will be getting the word out a bit earlier, and with more volunteers. As the old adage goes: >"All of us is better than any of us!" :) Here's to even more fun & blessings next year!
>>3510 >Regardless, we were already intending to keep /christmas/ 'open for business' until the Orthodox Christmas went by anyway. Can't forget our Orthobros!! The Twelve Days of Christmas needs to come back like in the old days.
>>3031 Here's the schedule for the nabe/Euronabe New Year Special: >Kyousougiga 2011 and 2012 >Gundam Thunderbolt Movies >Tetsuwan Birdy >Akira >Shounan Junai Gumi >Castle of Caligostro >Pichu to Pikachu >K-ON Movie Sometime during this will be the last episode of cooking with Emiya, and sometime at the end will be an eight episode marathon of the end of Shichinin no Nana as the first and last of the episodes in this marathon are are about the New Year.
>>3518 >The Twelve Days of Christmas needs to come back like in the old days. That seems like a goodly tradition Anon. If you wouldn't mind, can you link us all to some info on that which you consider canonical to the Christmas holidays of yore, please? I'm a bit rusty on the topic tbh. :P >>3524 Thanks for the info /a/ ! OP listing updated.

>>3528 I just meant in the sense of an extended Christmas. I don't like the way Christmas is considered over as soon as Christmas Day ends. It feels like everything just ends abruptly after people get their presents, as opposed to that aspect of the holiday marking the beginning of Christmas. I blame modern commercialism for cynically treating Christmas as nothing more than a marketing period. In the past, Christmas tended to either have religious significance or as an excuse to have good times with family and friends. I've heard that in Shakespeare's day, it was largely an occasion for revelry. Drinking in excess almost seems wholesome compared to turning the holiday into a ploy to sell Turbo Man action figures. I'm not that knowledgeable about any of this, but people in Western countries used to partake in festivities as late as January 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_Night_(holiday) According to this article, the lower classes used to extend the period even more: https://www.shakespeare-online.com/biography/shkchristmas.html I think the pagan Yule is also thought to have been celebrated in January, but I'm not so sure.

>>3530 Thanks for the insights, Anon. Can you think of any concrete suggestions for /christmas/ to follow through on this idea? I too don't think of Christmas as a single 'event', but rather a season (apparently just as in ye olde days of yore). It's a very deeply Christian religious holiday, obviously; one only surpassed by Easter. >The pagan Varg as Santa Lol. Some would claim that's apropos, but I think it's misguided to accuse modern Christmas' roots as being purely pagan. Clearly it's resoundingly Christian now, and has been so for many generations. Merry Christmas Cheers to you Anon. I hope we can figure this new idea out well, and implement it successfully here on /christmas/! :)
>>3531 >Thanks for the insights, Anon. Can you think of any concrete suggestions for /christmas/ to follow through with this? No. I wish I had some ideas. >Lol. Some would claim that's apropos, but I think it's misguided to accuse modern Christmas' roots as being pagan. (see above) I don't think it could be considered the same thing as Yule or Saturnalia or anything. There are definitely pagan elements to it, but a lot of the things people think are pagan actually aren't (like Christmas trees). It was founded on a Christian basis, but there was carryover from pre-Christian times. Either way, a lot of people also historically didn't necessarily seem to care about the religious aspect as much (which reminds me of how oftentimes medieval peasants are thought to have gone on pilgrimages more as an excuse to travel than for purely religious motives). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z0cLSpx5Mk
>>3535 OK, thanks for the inputs Anon. If I'm able to I'll plan to study this from rigorous sources, and reflect on what if anything we might do here on /christmas/ to celebrate the 12 days tradition in accord with traditional Christianity. Cheers.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, /CHRISTMAS/ ! DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE JUST MEMES THIS YEAR, ANONS!

Merry Christmas, Orthobros!
Well, shit. Since anoncafe is shutting down where are we hosting the event the following year?
Well, at least we made it through 2023 Christmas carrying on the good cheer, and there'll be the better part of a year to see where the chips land. Just hoping the boards on other sites I still use are around, and get the invite again.
What's going to happen to /christmas/ now that anon.cafe is shutting down?

>>3563 >>3564 >>3565 We are relocating to trashchan.xyz, so don't worry Anons. See : (>>3571) Look forward to seeing you in December again! Cheers.
