If something is really important or urgent it may get its own sticky, otherwise post in here.
>>10486 The dev is correct, lossless WebP is pretty powerful and the only good use case for the format. However, it's hardly used as such, instead being used to spam out terrible lossy images by CDNs. This is why I push AVIF and JXL. >WebP is the new PNG >JXL is a better JPEG and jack of all trades, excels at high-quality lossy compression >AVIF is the new GIF, excels at low-quality lossy compression and animated images That's how I see things. Also, linked image is an example of the "value" cuckchanners bring here.
>>10487 what a lovely assessment, mainly due to >instead being used to spam out terrible lossy images by CDNs i hadn't even considered that webp might have it's place due to simple autistic dismissal, i now find myself in full agreement with you, thank you >pic yeah...
>>10437 I'd like to create an account, but I haven't been successful. This is my email: 1000mg@cock.li Maybe my verification request never gets sent (or never arrives)
Why was this deleted >>10487. And are we really deleting things from the websites meta thread now too? That was the fourth post from df9e86, what'd he do? What exactly did he do that was so wrong, it merited limiting his free speech, an inherit God given right of all free Men.
>>10489 You need to e-mail me at codexx (at) cock (dot) li with that e-mail address, and include your account's username, so I can validate you own that address. I can then manually enable board creation for your account. >>10490 Seems like it was a mistake. The post has been restored. I'll take another stab at ImageMagick soon and see if we can't enable JPXL and AVIF.
fucking can cake kike already, why is he not removed for GR3 already for constantly deleting posts?
>>10492 >Why is he not removed for doing his job 4free? Make your own board if you hate him so much. Or better yet, go anywhere else. You're no better than someone on cuckchan complaining about how their site is shit.
>>10491 I sent an email to the address on the contact page RE some help for 8chan.tv, worth resending to you, or yall just busy?

>>10493 >>Why is he not removed for doing his job 4free? >Make your own board if you hate him so much. Or better yet, go anywhere else. You're no better than someone on cuckchan complaining about how their site is shit.
>>10495 >posts a soyjak You deserve your suffering, nigger.
How do warns even work, I got one on /v/ but the only reason I even know I did is that I was browsing the logs at the time and was lucky enough to spot it and know it was directed at me. Shit should not be that easy to entirely miss, couldn't they just be similar to bans where either for your next post or for a set period of time you get the warn message when you try to post anywhere in that board?
>>10494 Please resend. Cockmail has been having issues and might have eaten it, or it got lost while I was really busy. >>10497 It's a ban that doesn't prevent posting, so you can send a user a message. That is how bans work, but you have to set the ban duration to something long, or it might expire before the user tries to post and sees it.
>>10498 Then something might be fucked because I never got the message for that warn.
>4chan is kill >.moe hasn't so much as made an opportunistic twitter post You already have shartyniggers posting soyjaks, so "we don't want post-2nd exodus subhumans here" clearly doesn't apply.
Yo, why does only /a/'s button at the top bar not work properly? It's like a pixel-perfect click is required to actually click it? Same doesn't apply to other one-letter boards.

(480.28 KB 640x360 sam hyde FIX IT NOAW.mp4)

.moe has this problem.
>>10504 .se domain is shitting itself, as well.
>>10505 But far less than .moe at least from my side of the innernetz
(125.42 KB 850x765 Asuka aggressor.jpg)

10,883 concurrent users right now. That's why it chugged, the frontend was only set up for ~6000. I just doubled its capacity so within an hour it should be running smooth for everyone. And if that's not enough, adding even more takes less than 2 hours with the way our network is built. The site core isn't even breaking a sweat yet, either. Load is under 20%. Bring em on.
>>10509 Sure, the site can handle the load, but can the moderators and administration handle it? Lots of people want to make or claim boards, and that has been a monumentally slow process for anyone attempting it for ages now.
>>10509 Damn, site is already chugging again.
>>10510 The site's email sender got filtered to oblivion by Google a while back and I haven't been able to work around it. EMAIL CODEXX (AT) COCK.LI FOR BOARD CLAIMS AND ACCOUNT VERIFICATIONS IF YOU'RE A MOD We'll make it work. With lots of users comes at least some willing to help manage things. We'll take janny applications and such as needed. Let's fuckin go. >>10511 DNS takes time to propagate, so when a big wave of users who haven't got the new settings all hit the .moe domain it smashes a server. It'll even out after a bit of time. If its still doing it in a few hours we'll expand even more.
>>10512 If I were to take on a new janitor for any of my boards, I could easily undo any damage he does with post restorals, however, there is no reversing thread merges and post editing. Can I prevent Janitors from having the privilege to edit posts and merge threads to avoid such a catastrophe? It could cause irreparable damage to many boards.
What's the ETA on .gif and .apng posting? While you're at it please please up the Tor file limit to at least 15 MB per post. I can tell you how many times it catches me and I have to either not post or lower the image's resolution. I don't have to have 50 or 30 or even 20 but I think 15 is reasonable.
Woah, 8.tv isn't just streaming anymore, it's actual video uploads? You know that's not sustainable, right? The only reason video sites can sustain themselves is because of ads and (((investors))). The data and storage costs are just too much.

Traffic is still increasing. We're over 15,000 concurrent users and rising. We're gonna have to find a couple more servers real quick. Stay tuned, we're on it.
>>10520 I'm happy for the /site/. It is going to feel weird seeing this place populated.

Yep, dog got it. Hey, right now .se works fine for me, but .moe works like ass.

>>10509 >>10520 Kek. get to work nigga, the zerg are coming. >>10514 Also this pretty please with a cherry on top, it's been very frustrating being a torfag for the past... several years.
>>10526 Postin on .moe again.
>>10526 That's because I just spun up another server ~30 mins ago. Every time I do that, .moe will run like ass until the DNS update hits your local ISP, which is 30mins-6 hours depending on where you live. Also this one fired with a bug that I had to fix which ate up a few minutes. At some point I will need to sleep and work, so if we get overloaded again during that time please just bare with it. The site hasn't actually gone down once from all this traffic, its just network congestion. If we need even more room by then I'll be on it as soon as I'm home.
Hey, Acid, there is weirdness >>>/v/1093206 But, https://8chan.moe/v/res/1093206.html
>>10530 I'm going to bed myself. Details, in case the thread disappears: 1093206 was a reply in thread 1090336 but, 1093206 is also its own thread
>>10530 It's a collision as a result of how Lynxchan counts posts. This is the third time I've seen it happen on this site.
>>10530 >>10532 >>10533 I've noted it and can probably reproduce it but I think the fix is gonna take a bit. Especially with other stuff going on. The good news is that it's (mostly) harmless.
Is this where I can mention that the feedback button at the footer doesn't direct you to a real thread?
Someone complained in the /v/ drawthread about oekak. "Lost a several hours oekaki because of idiocy and also beause the export button is broken"
>>10536 that was me. I remember that in other places the export function should open a "save as" window. Here that doesn't happen.
>>10536 >>10537 Shit, that's a pain. I'll add it to the issues list. I may be somewhat overwhelmed for the near future. If anyone has JavaScript experience and would like to volunteer to help handle frontend work, I could definitely use the help.
/a/ BO here, how do I add someone as a volunteer?
>>10540 They need to make an 8moe user acct and you can add them by username in the BO menu under Volunteers.
>tfw it's been years and you still must either use TOR or use Redchannit clearnet mirror to access the site at all if you're from some certain countries(Russia for example) What gives? And is 8moe going to fix it finally now that halfchan is kill and may end up staying dead for a relatively long time?
>>10542 I'll talk to Acid about it. Probably no changes until we make sure the new hardware is stable. So far so good, but we'll give it a couple days before tinkering with the routing and blocks.
>>10543 I really hope so. I'd be delighted to finally come back home after missing since OG 8ch went out with a bang. God, I miss 8/v/ and 8/v/ anons a ton! Hopefully the solution will end up being something simple.
>>10544 To clarify, Russia was banned because they tried to deplatform us. We've discussed unbanning them before. Some countries are banned because we receive a lot of cybersecurity threats from them and it's easier to just IP range ban the entire country and let anons hit with a false positive use a VPN. China and Israel fall into this category. A couple countries are just blocked out of an abundance of caution over local laws, but we can probably compromise on those if we look into things more. Or at least make the blocks more targeted to specific boards.
>>5423 I think Host-dono should add an option for board reports to include the title of the thread (that contains the reported post). With large and broad boards such as /v/ideo games and /vyt/ (vtubers), it's almost impossible to know everything and this would assist with clean up speed

>>10549 >>10550 >>10551 Yes, it appears Mark has filtered crosslinking /vg/. He must consider it a competing board and doesn't want to lose this wave of traffic to it. >>10554 Deleting anything mentioning his recent behavior, even in the meta thread, has been his MO four a couple months now.
>>10554 >>10555 Also, he has his vol Coyote on board with this behavior and assisting in it.
It's nonsense like this that I made /bv/ for. Thankfully, it's 99% shielded from the refugees, and Mark is in no hurry to direct traffic to my tiny board.

Even core features like overboard blacklisting and word blocking hasn't been implemented despite being requested years ago. Either make the userscript yourself or don't expect whatever features you want to ever get made. Lynxchan development is glacial.
Is the bump limit/max post count going to be adjusted to account for user influx, even if it's just temporary?

>no working Clover, Kuroba/KurobaEx or similar app for phoneposting seamlessly on 8chan.moe >no 4chanX or 4chanXT equivalent either on desktop This will prove to be difficult, as a refugee. I hate Firefox on Android so fucking much, and missing a (you) notification counter makes monitoring threads a bit of a chore.
>>10573 I've been bitching at Acid and Codexx for meaningful UX features for years bud. Best you can hope for is the influx of users getting the site a new front-end developer because these fuckers don't do shid.

(92.85 KB 828x1200 Asuka bun squat white.jpeg)

We're over 20,000 concurrent users today, and its still rising. The system's handling it, but we'll be ready to add even more server beef if the errors start happening.
Inline replies are bugged, clicking on a link once will work just fine, but clicking on it for a second time >won't hide the post again if the quoted post is from the same thread, or >will duplicate the quoted post if it's a cross-thread link. Furthermore, I can't have inline replies inside the inline replies.

I wonder why some boards like /tits/ and /vr/ are locked? What is the overall process that gets some boards locked from posting...
>>10595 Recent attack on the site targeting dead boards. Boards with very little activity were locked en masse, and those that still have active moderation could request their board unlocked. One of my boards was hit at the time.
ACID/CODEXX is there a way to recover a thread that's pushed off a board? An anon on /v/ wanted to archive the old TES thread but 4/v/'s general posting pushed it off the board before he realized it. Related to this can BO's get an option to protect threads from being bumped off? Basically like pinning a thread but without moving it to the front page? That would be SUPER helpful right now.
can you unblock my country i want to post without vpn
>>10600 the thread in question was >>>/v/884310

For the love of God, can links from moderator pages finally work properly? The only working links are post links. I keep constantly clicking shit that leads a to a 404 when trying to navigate quickly because things like the index and catalog buttons exist in moderation view, but don't fucking work.
>>10600 This! The webm thread, sexy sprite threads, among the others are going to be removed from the catalog if nothing's done!

how do i disable stubs of filtered/hidden posts here?
Could I get updated URLs for available redchannit nodes and TOR? The ones I had and the ones in the banner below the reply box don't work. I'm trying to update the fallback plan for my board and I'm not sure what alternatives there are anymore as everything I have or find is broken or dead.
>>10600 >>10602 Thank God that I was able to save the previous thread just before the general posting started to get really bad: https://archive.ph/OoM2M Though I wish that there were more people archiving the smaller threads and cyclical threads since I've been doing this job on multiple boards for several years now and I really need to take a break, nobody is even getting the Wayback Machine to crawl through the boards via the archive domain with the last capture being a manual one from a few months ago.
Made the following today https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/533077-lynxchan-extended Current functionalities -Show your posts and replies on the scrollbar -Use each thread's custom spoiler image (the image of the first visible post on the current thread with the filename ThreadSpoiler.jpg (or .png or .webp)) -There is also an option to enable an alternative spoiler image named ThreadSpoilerAlt.jpg (or .png or .webp) -Apply some styling fixes (Mark your posts and replies, smaller thumbnails etc.) also works with dollchan (https://dollchan.net/extension/)

Old threads eventually slipping off the catalog are just a thing that happens. Since we upgraded the main server last year we could try enabling thread archiving natively. The drives have some space. But if we stay this large for a year shit will fill up. Anyway, updates. Today we officially hit an all time peak of 24000 concurrent users, 14,000 active posters, literally over 9000 posts per hour, and more than half a million lurker hits. Sweet mother of fuck. We started capping out on the frontend network again this evening which is why thread updates began to gently break, so I spun up yet another network node and plugged it in. Now we're comfy, and another 3000-4000 people could show up before it starts stressing things again. WELCOME TO 8CHAN!
>>10622 Is everyone able to handle it? My board's gains have been relatively modest so I still have it under control, but I wonder how the big boards approaching 1000 PPH are faring. In all my time on this site I've never seen anything like it.
>>10622 Can You unlock >>>/funkg/ ?
>>10624 That board is closed because it was abandoned by its owner and has no active volunteers. You can create an account and claim the board so we can unlock it.
>>10623 Its amazing, isn't it? I could gush for a bit. We never cared about competing with anybody, not even 8kun. It was all about our anons and the communities we lost. We just wanted to carry the torch and keep it alive, whether we had 20 users or 2000. We built this modular network not to try and scalp anybody's userbase, but to let us expand and contract around censorship and deplatforming because the net was going insane in 2021. The ability to expand it fast to take in new users was just a bonus that let us save the Hispas and a few others. But here we are. The unthinkable happened and 4chan went down, and suddenly we have tens of thousands of anons coming in out of the rain. And they're nice. Have you been around the communities? These guys aren't the schizo tranny dregs everyone dreaded when a random 4chan user would show up 3 years ago. They feel like our brothers and stepsisters from 8chan prime. We're having more fun than we've had in years just being shitposting faggots in our own right. It feels like a big family reunion, IMO. I'll be sad when or if it turns out to be fleeting, but right now I just wanna tell everyone to party hard. And the admin trio? Fuck I feel like a proud dad seeing my network system going to strong. Codexx feels the same about all the work he did to make the site software as good as it is and seeing new people really notice the difference. Its a magical feeling. I wouldn't have wanted to miss this week for the world.

Part of me really doesn't want 4chan to come back. You're right in that this feels magical.
>>10622 what are the chance we get 8chan x? or turn 4chan x feature into permanent feature in 8chan
>>10628 Honest answer is, we live for that kinda stuff here. Dice rolls, oekaki, and a bunch of other stuff were all created because one or more communities wanted them and just asked nicely. (842.02 KB 1790x3330 8chan future network.png)

>>10633 Yeah. Lynxchan was an autism project designed to solve the "8chan prime problem" of >100k users. At the time there was no imageboard software in the world that could handle it on a single machine. To work around this, sites like 4chan and old 8chan had to pay thousands of dollars a month for multiple giant, full spec servers to split up the load. Lynxchan uses an *extremely* small, fast, efficient, scalable backend system that exposes the API to a separate frontend that handles just the UI/UX part. A buck naked lynxchan running on one full power server can do the work of six servers in a 4chan style setup. Lynxchan also uniquely allows the backend server to slave-rig other servers to it remotely, borrowing their processing power if the main box gets overwhelmed. This site is extra unique because we designed the network with similar scalability. To put it in perspective, .moe has one main server as a backend and then multiple frontend network "nodes" (a FE server, a DDoS guard, a caching proxy, and a traffic controller all bundled together and hardened). And these nodes can be installed on inexpensive VPS machine anywhere in the world in about 2 hours. The nodes talk to the main backend and also to eachother, spreading out server load dramatically, increasing speed, and securing the actual server kinda like how Cloudflare does. The network can support up to 64 nodes, but we're handling all of this traffic with just five.

I read that VPNs are allowed on this board, how does this work? Can I post from both my home IP and my VPN at the same time as long as I am not breaking any rules? Sometimes I have my VPN active in one device and not the other or sometimes I have my VPN up to read posts from places like Twitter because my ISP blocks twitter for some reason and I forget to turn it off before posting. This wasn't a problem in 4chan because 4chan blocks VPNs completely which served as a reminder to turn it off but I want to know if I'm safe using both at the same time or if I should just stick to one?

In the abscense of an archive, I thought it would be a good idea to have a hall of fame board that contains the best threads on the site called >>>/vault/. Good threads that are approaching deletion would instead be moved to it for safekeeping and selection would be based on nomination and voting. I've spoken with Mark, who has made me aware of some technical limitations on the backend, and as an amateur C programmer unfamiliar with JS and objects I'd appreciate some assistance. I have one minor hurdle of great significance, one major hurdle of far lesser significance, and a couple of questions about behavior with the current settings that I probably know the answer to but feel the need to ask anyways. Firstly, for the presentation of the board, every thread except a single cyclical sticky where nominations would go would be locked. According to Mark, this means that the board cannot be locked down because that locks all posting. The next step would be to just disable thread creation, but that doesn't seem to be an option and I want to know why: // metaOps.js var informedHourlyLimit = +parameters.hourlyThreadLimit; informedHourlyLimit = informedHourlyLimit && informedHourlyLimit !== Infinity; if (informedHourlyLimit) { newSettings.hourlyThreadLimit = +parameters.hourlyThreadLimit; } else if (board.hourlyThreadLimit) { updateBlock.$unset = { lockedUntil : 1, threadLockCount : 1, lockCountStart : 1, hourlyThreadLimit : 1 }; } wSettings.hourlyThreadLimit = +parameters.hourlyThreadLimit; } It's clear why 0 would fail, but it can store negative values, but this doesn't work for reason presently unknown to me. Am I on the right track or is there an easier way to disable thread creation than this? Second, which I haven't begun investigating yet, it seems that reply chians are contextually preserved by renumbering posts, but I figure that there ought to be a means of preserving the original post number as well in the event of GETs. This information would have to go somewhere though, and I don't want to fuck with the structure of posts too much by adding extra data fields. I suppose it could go in the name field, and with some custom JS or CSS, you could modify the real post numbers with the original, but this seems like it'd be a very finnicky project. As for other question I haven't spent too much time thinking about. >are IDs added when moving a thread from a fully anonymous board to one where they're enabled? >are files unlinked when moving a thread to a board where files are disabled? Thanks in advance.

>>10745 I don't come to 8chan very often and yeah, it's disappointing but ultimately it's his board, his rules. It does make sense if he's looking to have some kind of continuity with the original. Requesting a 15min cooldown before a new IP can post Some guys on /vyt/ are abusing ip hopping to spam, so a cooldown before first post would help to stop them, and also make mods' job easier
>>10747 If only someone had tried convincing Acid to let individual board owners to control the PoW bypass system, or whether new bypasses could be generated at all. It sure would be useful right about now if Acid had been working on that for the last few years. You're totally fucked anon.
>>10747 it's over
>>10746 >It does make sense if he's looking to have some kind of continuity with the original The original /trash/ sucked balls because schizos were allowed to do whatever they wanted. Most every poster doesn't want a 1:1 /trash/, they want a /trash/ where they can get cozy in their own little pocket of degeneracy. Convincing everyone to move to a new board is a non-starter, so thread IDs at least give posters some way to identify and ignore shitposters. I know my request goes over the BO's head, but I'm half-convinced someone sniped the /trash/ name to just sit on it and do nothing. The meta thread on the board itself agrees that IDs would be a huge quality of life upgrade.

Hello from /vyt/. Thread IDs have been useful in dealing with shitposting without having to rely on moderation, but a decent amount of people have been scared off by the loss of anonymity. The less people a thread has, the worse this concern gets, mostly because the threads stay on the board for much longer. This concern would be greatly mitigated by having thread IDs reset after a certain period of time. I think maybe even just a few hours (1-4?) would be enough to deal with the worst shitposting, while also preserving most of the anonymity people are looking for. I'm not sure what the ideal time would be. It could possibly be made adjustable in the board options. I have no idea how feasible this is, but it would be greatly appreciated.
>>10802 can't you just lower the bump/page limit and bake new threads?
>>10803 The amount of time it takes for various generals to reach their limits vary wildlly. Some of them will cycle through 4-6 threads in a day, while others would last for weeks at the current rate. The current limits are 500/1000, which are similar to what they were on 4/vt/, which was 310/1500. People are used to the old thread limits. It's not exactly the same, but it's close enough.

Someone should add this to the wiki article for imageboards. I would but my VPNs are all banned from editing on wikipedia lol. = 8chan.moe = 8chan.moe (also known as 8chan.se) is an English-language imageboard launched on April 21, 2020. It was created as an alternative to 8kun, aiming to distance itself from associations with QAnon and related controversies. Similar to 4chan, the site allows users to post and discuss topics anonymously. Like its predecessor 8chan, 8chan.moe supports user-created boards, enabling individuals to establish and moderate communities centered around any topic, provided content complies with United States law. The platform promotes a strong commitment to freedom of speech, though each board is moderated independently. Local board moderators are responsible for enforcing their own rules and may remove content at their discretion. 8chan.moe is currently partnered with the Japanese [[textboard]] [[2channel]].

>>10821 So are mine lmao. It would pull in site traffic for any stragglers for sure, and probably help the site exist after 4chan returns, but I bet you $1 that they take down the edit instantly for racism

Hell, 5 minutes is too long. Make it 2 minutes and add some randomization in to the times. Double click it. The only issue is, you can't fucking un-highlight those posts.
>>10822 Man, Japanese wiki for lolicon and the english one says two completely different things. Kind of funny.
>>10802 >loss of anonymity 1. You get different ID in each thread 2. Normally nobody cares about IDs unless somebody shitposts too much(but indeed it makes people less aggressive if they post a lot in one thread) Overall it's an improvement IMO, especially that schizos who samefag a lot started to come out already.

Could be made so we could see the file type without needing to hover over filename? Low priority, I guess, but something that could be done in future.

Feature suggestion: make user IDs in threads change periodically, for example daily. On 5ch (and other 2ch sites as far as I'm aware), IDs change daily. I think this is a good baseline. I can see other people also brought up this topic before: >>10802 >a decent amount of people have been scared off by the loss of anonymity. I agree that IDs are a great way to keep spamming in check, but I think the problem is more nuanced than >loss of anonymity. I would argue that changing IDs lend themselves more to long-running threads than constant IDs exactly because it's a good balance between 2 factors: >1. preventing bad actors from spamming Even in >>10806 you'll see it's very easy to spot the shitshow as it's happening. You can easily filter people right away, and you're done with it. It's not like they can't change their IP if that's what they want. >2. old comments not being used as interfering context for new comments Long-running threads (regardless of whether they are generals or not) have discussions about various topics, so your several-day-old posts are very likely irrelevant context to your current ones. People usually go to the thread, have some discussions, then come back the next day to talk about something completely different. For these threads, having the same ID for a long time may also encourage attention-whoring and building a reputation, which are naturally present on most forums with names. >but nobody cares But it does make people feel differently. I think the point of this format is not to have to worry about reputation. tl'dr changing IDs would provide a more level playing field for actual discussion while still discouraging spammers. This way, I don't think people would be put off by IDs and decide not to participate in discussions.
>>10838 >I'm stupid enough to not know how. And I routinely had to ban evade on /vg/ because tranny jannies used any reason they could to ban people actually talking about the games.
>>10851 Seconding
>>10851 Literally zero legitimate issues come from having thread ideas and there are no reasons to change how long they last. You just want it to be possible to samefag. Use a VPN you ///quadruple nigger\\\.
>>10851 Wait actually reading this again IDs change in different threads, it's not like you have the same ID on every thread You can't really build a reputation because it will all be gone when the thread 404s
>>10851 >Feature suggestion: make user IDs in threads change periodically, for example daily. Give an inch...
>>10851 If you want to change your ID change your IP. If you can't handle that then go back to cuckchan in a week. There are 10,000 more important changes this site needs.
>>10855 >IDs change in different threads, it's not like you have the same ID on every thread I am well aware and was never implying that. This is why I'm specifically talking about long-running threads as an example. For threads which will be gone within a day, this doesn't matter, but there are threads that last a lot longer than that.
>>10858 > but there are threads that last a lot longer than that. There used to be, before 4chan moved in.
>>10854 >>10857 Changing IDs are the default behavior on other sites, so I don't see it as a far-fetched suggestion, especially when it's a simple change. >change your IP/VPN This is not really about dodging IDs. Changing IPs for this reason may just make the experience even worse. >>10859 Lol, yeah, it was actually seeing slower threads with some actual discussion and IDs that made me think about this issue. On 4chan, most threads on big boards were simply spam that only lasted an hour or two.
>>10862 The problem is that Acid is slightly retarded and I assume his implementation of things will always be done in a stupid way. You would have to first tie ID's to something like bypasses, or decouple them from both bypasses and IP's entirely. Which is not how the system has ever worked. Then you would have to let BO's set the time for them to expire. Theoretically it's fine, but you're upsetting a currently known system for something that is rather niche. The bypass system needs to be reworked to work on a board by board basis rather than globally, and then BO's need to get control over bypass moderation features. And this is something I've been bitching at Acid/Codexx about for literally years. So it's unlikely to get implemented any time soon.
>>10806 >VPNs Paying to shitpost, or falling for honeypot?
How do I link other boards in the board's message? Doing >>>/boardname/ doesn't seem to work.
>>10867 I'm sure there's a lot more to consider, but I don't really see why what you're talking about would be necessary. Why would you need those or what would be affected by adding a parameter to the hash algorithm input for generating the id column for posts? Out of curiosity I just checked and post.id is generated by calling createId(salt, boardUri, ip, bypassId), and only if !hideId, else null is written to that column. Function createId() already takes the ip and bypassId as optional arguments, so I don't see how adding a date argument and passing the current date as a string to it would be difficult or what it would break. This function is also called when creating a thread (which also involves creating a post), but it seems to do the same thing. It isn't used anywhere else.
>>10871 That's because there is no >>>/boardname/ retard. Try e.g. >>>/v/
>>10870 Do you not know how to use a vpn or TOR the actual onion node is down because of course it is to remain anonymous on an imageboard? Is that too difficult to comprehend for a 4channer? Funny how you don't care about anonymity when your site forces you to use your raw IP address to browse and post, but suddenly care when a random sequence of letters and numbers is attached to your post for a single thread that changes when your IP changes or you enter another thread. Once and always, the only people who have a problem with thread IDs are the ones who want to be able to post dozens of times pretending to be different people engaging in a conversation with himself.
>>10873 It was an example anon, I tried adding >>>/a/ and doesn't seem to link it, just stays red like normal text.
>>10875 Works on my machine™ You can even link specific posts, like >>>/a/5270
So what is the general consensus about the site getting all this new traffic from the 8chan locals? A lot of people seem to be bitching because the evil 4channers are making threads they don't like on their boards or because they don't like how modern 4chan culture is to treat threads as a hangout so I feel like a thread like this would be best to get some opinions on the matter.
>>10877 The site was dying before this so it's a net positive. The amount of low quality posts is not significant enough to matter.
>>10874 >free VPNs and Tor Enjoy your honeypot retard.

hello can I suggest a different censor for nsfw images instead of using the spoiler feature? in some threads over half of the images are marked as spoilers, but I don't want to click them indiscriminately, both because it's inconvenient and because it might actually be a spoiler I want to avoid. if there was a separate filter for nsfw that you could toggle on or off and leave the spoiler tag for actual spoilers it would make browsing more convenient.

Right now, 404 on both .moe and .se, previously only on .se. moe still works with VPN, but some EU IPs have problems with that. Quite a day! We had one node in the network deplatformed and another one crashed out completely. The site ran all day literally at half capacity. We're at work now getting it squared away. The crashed node is fixed and running again, so it should already be better.

To follow up on >>10734. My board is for a hyper-specific purpose and needs to not have thread creation or file uploads. After looking through the settings, I enabled both the textboard and thread file requirement hoping that this would lock out thread creation, but this doesn't work as lynxchan has first checks if the board is a textboard. However, I have a very simple modification to the backend that would solve this. // .../engine/postingOps/threads.js : 291 - 295 if (textBoard && !noFiles) { return lang(req.language).errTextBoard; // } else if (requireFile && !textBoard && noFiles) { // Original } else if (requireFile && noFiles) { // Modified return lang(req.language).msgErrThreadFileRequired; } It's a bit hacky and might lead to some confusion, but it's almost no additional work and doesn't compromise the security of the site. It would be awesome if you could do this, brother.

>>10939 Sadly Ukraine can't access the site anymore. Someone tried to get us deplatformed all day, but only one network caved. The rest either ignored it or forwarded us the emails lol. So we lost one node. That node has been replaced as of right now. And the broken node is alive and well again. And we're looking at two more nodes possibly coming online tomorrow just for funsies. We're no strangers to someone trying to whack-a-mole us, so we'll work on having lots of spares. Enjoy the site once again everyone. The network has its full capacity back.

Right now our #1 concern is keeping the site working good for as many anons as possible, but we're taking into account *everything* for future work. Is there a way to make regex filters case-insensitive? "(?i)" doesn't seem to do it, and can't really do "/filter/i" either since the implementation only seems to let you define whatever goes between the slashes. "[Ff][Ii][Ll][Tt][Ee][Rr]" would work, but is annoying to type and hurts filter readability.
>>10987 First of all, I gave you a whole fucking week to respond to this issue (even though the .moe registrar explicitly gave you only two work days) and even sent you a follow up mail asking for a heads up, acknowledging you're probably pretty busy - a simple "we haven't gotten to it yet because we're busy" would have sufficed. Second, yes, the content might have not been illegal in itself, but it was the equivalent of a guy running out in the streets screaming "Raping children is good, everyone should rape children, here's how you find victims!" This also wouldn't be illegal, but would you just ignore it? Would you expect others to ignore it? Third, apparently this is actually illegal, at least in "parts of one country" if they blocked you, and how is it my fault if you don't check the laws of the countries you're choosing to host your site/mirrors more carefully?

Will the 4cuckz boards get deleted or merged with already stablished boards once their site is back up? I'm finding out that they aren't quite assimilating as you'd expect them to, they just form their own communities ignoring other boards that allows the type of posts they are looking for and or take over pre-existing ones demanding change. You can see the same thing happening across other chans too. It's not like they're going to be back and even if they are, the respective owners are going to be the first ones to actually ditch the site without handing moderation over to anybody that could actually care about maintaining the board. How to hide thread from the catalog view?
>>11044 You can open the thread, click on the hiding options in the OP, and select "hide thread".
I know there are probably a million issues you're dealing with, but you are going to need to rework the bypass system so it can operate on a board by board basis, and perhaps even a thread by thread basis because of the level of attention and activity the site has. Your ghetto solution of globally disabling bypass generation barely worked when this site moved at a crawl. And now people are learning how to severely spam the site and it's only going to get worse. I told you to make these changes literally years ago in anticipation of exactly this scenario.
>>11045 I want to hide threads by clicking on them in catalog It was shift click on cuckchan
>>11046 And by rework it I mean let board owners have control over bypass generation and the difficulty of the PoW system.
>>11046 >>11048 Have you tried reporting spam to the jannies? I don't want to solve more captchas, captcha is VERY shit on this site.
>>11049 No, that's a retarded solution. The bypass system is one designed so normal users don't need to sit around filling out captcha's. You fill out the initial bypass captcha which gives you a bypass cookie, then you don't need to fill another out for something like 48 hours. That means in times of spam you can disable bypass generation, or enable a proof-of-work bypass generation that requires your CPU to do calculations for a few minutes to get a bypass cookie. This let's you mitigate spam while impacting normal anons very minimally. Anyone that already has a bypass cookie won't even notice it's enabled. This allows you to still have anonymous utilities like TOR and VPN's accessible without forcing anons to compromise their privacy. It is a good solution that Acid came up with, but it's fucking useless when it can only be enabled globally by an admin.

>>11180 Just wait till the corpos get their bots up and running. It's going to be gacha spam and culture war threads filled to the brim with exactly the same shit that had infested 4/v/. Hope you bros are ready to fight the machines, they're going to come in hot as traffic here picks up. :\
>>11187 The point was that samefagging was made insanely obvious with IDs and that in itself would deter people from doing it when trying to push things a certain way. But this schizo on /v/ has given up all pretense of subtlety and is just unleashing his trooned out frustration on /xivg/ for not wanting to use his board or give him any fucking attention to the point he's straight up recycling ebin posts from 4cuck's archives in his bot now.
>>11191 Off topic, but I saw this painting at the Whitney a while back and thought it was very nice.
Shit's so fast, my posts are getting eating infrequently.
>>11191 Well unlike 4chan, this site has actual up-to-date software behind it and a mod team that isn't predatory against its users. If anyone can find an actual solution to the bot problem, it's white-hat autists like the ones at the top here
>>11194 Actually no, it just looks like they got eaten, but instead, the thread continues updating properly except for my post, and I have to refresh the page for my post to appear
>>11184 The global default is 1000 for autosage and 2000 for max replies. Cyclics will cycle when they run out of room and remove posts from the top. Board owners can set them to be lower. 2000 replies can cause some low-end devices to struggle. If you browse on a toaster, you can use the [Last] button from the index to load only the last ~50 replies. >>11186 Might be something we're doing. >>11197 Thanks. Is there a way to change the site clock to my region and make posts in the catalog show when the last reply was when hovering over?
>>11191 The sharty is already starting. I've seen subtle sharty ads on every board, disguised as complaints. /trash/ already has 5 blacked threads. Making spammers use 100 separate browsers for 100 IPs will fuck them over very hard. You could also do it in the background silently. Let them samefag with VPNs. Alert mods, then when the time is right nuke at least 10 of their VPN IPs. Like a mousetrap. >>11196 That's normal site jank right now.
>>11198 The only two settings are UTC or "Local Times" under the Settings menu. But the local times I think are all relative. Hopefully with some more devs I can cook up some more flexibility.

A few more boards and a couple more real posters and this will be the comfiest home.
I've been following the /v/ spam debacle and I have a suggestion. I know Tor uses a proof of work algorithm to rate limit on guard nodes so spammers can't DDoS the network as easily. Would it be possible to add a PoW to posting? You could even use it to earn some crypto for site costs. Normal posters would just hear some fan spin for a few seconds after posting, and spammers would be unable to serve enough compute for high volume unless they have access to some serious compute.

>>11195 Given my experience with cuckchan schizos, I am not confident in the slightest that this hobby project of a site can overcome military-grade troon autism or anon's prediction of the things that ruined 4/v/ finding their way here. Not cause the mods of this site are bad or incompetent but because of the sheer quantity and persistence these freaks are capable of. You're not winning this without an iron fisted solution like disabling VPNs outright and other things that pre-rapefugee 8chan natives will not approve of. The tides of spam the two sides can produce when there's so much as a single opening to abuse is unfathomable. It's like putting a baby in front of a Tienanmen tank and expecting the tank to stop. You WILL have to make the hard decision to either piss off the userbase for the stability of your site or get run over because of troons and corporations once the latter catches wind of this place.
>>11197 >mechanical turk First I've heard of this kind of....service. That does make it a losing battle, I agree. But I don't like this new internet I have been awakened to. >>11203 Codexx with correct me if I am wrong but I think that already exists here. There is an algorithm that either needs time to solve or lots of instantaneous compute power to resolve which allows for posting.
>>11197 >I've wanted to do heutistics for a bit now but the engine isn't really set up to support them. I like this idea, though. I have never used r9k, but isn't that kind of the general concept? If you don't want to fuck with the backend, then what about implementing it like a reddit bot? Board owners could add a vol named "AntiSpam" or whatever the fuck and it would only monitor the first page in the catalog.
Just doing some brainstorming, I know it's a bad idea and goes against the whole principle of imageboards and kill new users but have you guys considered having an invite-only system for posting? Could be activated only when there's a mass spam situation, basically the PoW system but more severe.

>>11204 Come now, anon. Given what we (now) know about cuckchan, is there really any expectation they would have known how best to deal with the spammer situation? What they used (banning VPNs, requiring emails, etc) clearly didn't work NOT due to a lack of ideas, but because they had to work around 4chan's clearly outdated software. If they had some up to date imageboard system like vichan or jschan or something, they would almost certainly have had the resources to throw at the problem to help resolve it. It would have been an almost continuous uphill battle if governments and mega histrionic autism was the actual foe, but that's cybersecurity for you. It's always going to be like that.
>>11205 I didn't notice any increase in GPU or CPU utilization during posting, is this true?
>>11211 >more demoralization posting If you guys aren't going to contribute to the thread, and instead lament how impossible preventing spam is, maybe you should go back to the sharty? Contribute to improving the site or get out. Nobody needs paragraphs of demoralization spam.

Just informing you of how bad shit outside has gotten in recent years cause it's clear you guys haven't had to deal with prime time schizo-ing and astroturfing like we have back in our thankfully destroyed 'home'. There is no wishy-washy half-measure to combat these dysgenic freaks and their roach masters. Spam/ban evading tech has gotten too good to do anything but an iron-fisted response now. This motherfucker in his first moments churned out 1500+ posts in like 3 minutes. And that's ONE FUCKING GUY. Imagine how bad it gets if the corporations or the rest of the tranny cabal finds their way here. It will be fucking PANDEMONIUM if you try to do anything halfway because going full iron-fist would piss off the original gated community you once had. This is basically a horde of a thousand brown zombies swarming a small white neighborhood and killing everyone inside within minutes type of invasion we're talking here. >>11211 Cuckchan's awful methods of stemming the tide still did more than anything 8chan is currently willing to do. I don't want to see this place die but at this point we both know the sheer force the troons, governments and the corporations can unleash upon a place will utterly flatten them if their response isn't heavy-handed.
>>11210 It could work something like this >open new thread >go for quick reply >small cooldown followed by captcha >when captcha is solved, send a PoW task that is ASIC resistant >task should take around 10s on a modern CPU >when PoW is solved, send ip locked cookie that allows posting freely for the duration of the thread in the specific thread Of course the counter measures should be on a ladder, so board jannies or mods can enable them when necessary

>>11214 PoW makes spam monetarily infeasible, it should at least be tried. If the spammers can chew through enough instructions for high volume spam they probably have a data center, which would be bad. But you can simply increase the PoW difficulty until its economically infeasible, with only minor disruption to actual users. It's good enough to keep the Tor network running.
So how exactly is he spamming anyways? Is he using a botnet or is it possible to do this from a single machine?

>>11223 Mining crypto wouldn't be worth the time it took to even implement the code.

>>11214 It should be mentioned that while spammers are like cockroaches it's not really impossible to deal with them, a strong filter and a good banhammer will always work but you just gotta put that filter where it needs to be and staff the banhammer positions with people who know where shit and garbage is. Often on 4chan you don't even know what to report things as, but on here you can at least write custom reports which has already served me well against thread derailers and annoying retards. >>11221 No clue but your basic spammer has these options 1. a VPN that isn't banned 2. residential proxies 3. cookie replacements (whether having ones ready after waiting out a timer or not) 4. some combination of these unless they're going hardcore and ban evading with several different phones or something The IP Lurk Timer (15 minute timer) originally theorycrafted on 4/qa/ was technically implemented on 4chan, but only halfway because it didn't feature the original "when IP changes, cookie has to wait again", meaning that someone can prepare a cookie technically while making shitty posts and then switch faster than they should be able to, letting them ban evade without waiting.
>>11224 I've been jaded in general for over a decade now. But as I said, here's to hoping PoW ends up being enough to largely stop these niggers.
>>11227 Actually when i think of it the "wait when changing IPs" was technically implemented but it wouldn't technically time out the old cookie you had, instead it'd make a new cookie for the new IP, which means they weren't fully locked out.
>two shartyfags paragraph spamming to each other filtered. 0 useful discussion posted by them, just meaningless spam and speculation.
>>11227 When shit happens in the sheer QUANTITIES these motherfuckers are capable of you need something that stops it before it even gets started. Bots don't sleep and can do things multiple times faster than humans can. The only way you stop them from overwhelming the moderation staff is by having something in place that nyx's a majority of what they can do before they even hit the Reply button. >>11230 Plugging your ears and pretending what we're saying aren't facts is only gonna make your unpreparedness sting that much more when they finally find their way here. This ONE schizo is causing widespread problems on their own. An entire cabal or corporate data center will have it on it's fucking KNEES with your attitude towards the problem.
>>11188 Stuff like this is always a good idea. Stuff that checks for obvious spam behavior to alert mods would go a long way as long as the positions can be staffed.
>>11226 If we knew the specifics of it we'd have told you by now earlier in the thread. Obviously this schizo isn't gonna tell us the exact functions of his bots, cause that would make it easier to stop him.
>>11231 >something in place that nyx's a majority of what they can do before they even hit the Reply button. In the ideal world, that nyxing would be a lawsuit against malicious spamming, but this is not a perfect world.
Watching the xiv general right now, and his spamming is starting to die actually, don't know if the mods did something
>>11234 Obviously. But i am simply stating the direction they should look at it from, aim for an automatic system that PREVENTS the abuse entirely before it can begin outside of specific but heavily throttled avenues of approach so it can't overwhelm the moderation staff. And that it might honestly require an iron-fisted decision to achieve that.
>>11235 Shuddup and stop jinxing it again
>>11222 It kneecaps them since it scales with post rate, you can't spoof it. Using a system where only a single large PoW is solved pr. thread for legit users would be perfect I think, if you're banned you have to solve it again. As long as the challenge takes long enough, it will allow volunteers to snipe the spammers while they're crunching numbers. Combine it with a spam alert that measures the post velocity change and points to high velocity threads, then volunteers could make the decision to activate counter measures and the PoW algo could increase difficulty until they can follow along and control the spam. >>11225 Might as well do it since crypto PoWs are field tested. Monero for example is ASIC resistant and designed to only be mined on CPU. Even if it wouldn't make a lot, I think it would make the system more agreeable with users since they aren't just wasting CPU cycles for nothing by supporting the site in a small way.
>>11236 The obvious answer is rangebanning a specific IP subnet or ASN, but that's the IDF method of resolving this problem since a lot of civilians will be caught in the crossfire, and it isn't even a surefire stopgap depending on the resources the spammer has at their disposal. Is it typically obvious to tell if a spammer is using resources from a commercial VPN or only residential?
>>11237 I jinxed sorry anon
>>11227 But how on earth would he have access to thousands of proxy addresses? Doesn't that cost money? It doesn't make sense to waste resources. I feel like this is like the Imgur hack a decade ago that shut down 8chan for a few weeks. IIRC, the gist of it was that any time an image was loaded on Imgur, it would also request a swf file from 8chan. https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2015/09/imgur-abused-in-ddos-attack-against-4chan https://www.nexusguard.com/blog/ddos-attack-hits-4chan-via-imgur-exploit Maybe we should keep track of when the attacks occur? He can't be at his computer all day and night, it might narrow things down to chart the activity for a targeted block.
>>11233 We might not know the specifics, but surely we can make some educated guesses. It's probably not a new methodology as no one would waste that just to spam a thread endlessly.
Also, I just outright cannot verify my email anymore. I've set my personal email, a new one on cock.li, doesn't matter. The site refuses to send me a confirmation email.

>>11241 >But how on earth would he have access to thousands of proxy addresses? Doesn't that cost money? It doesn't make sense to waste resources. You assume they got them legally. Maybe they used compromised systems who are unaware they're being exploited? I assure you the parasites from 4chan are a tough bunch. Do you know about PEE? Or lolipiss as they call it. I don't remember all the details but it was a /g/ /cumg/ tool that's still around, and it lets users embed all sorts of heinous shit into images (including metadata) basically just to bypass moderator overview. This forced 4chan to automatically strip all metadata (including transparency from Webms) on the site, but as far as I'm aware the tool still works to some degree. That's just one aspect of the level of technical autism these faggots indulge in. >Maybe we should keep track of when the attacks occur? He can't be at his computer all day and night, it might narrow things down to chart the activity for a targeted block. Maybe if it targets the threads manually, but if there's some automatic process to go after names or mentions then he could just go to work and come back with a spammed thread anyway.
>>11238 Sounds like something that works in theory but it seems the site is short handed on code devs, so I'm hoping they find some competent codemonkeys before the brown tide starts to truly roll in. I don't know the specifics of these things, I just know the sheer magnitude they're capable of. Quick suggestion, it'd be great if support for tegaki replays was added. That way users could both upload their replays and view others. Unfortunately, I think the only way to validate that a .tgkr file is an actual replay is to run it and inspect the generated image. So it might need a lot of server CPU to prevent bad actors from sending random binary blobs.

A couple years ago we dealt with some very persistent and technically adept spammers who hit us on a relatively similar scale but using VPNs and Tor. The only real difference with the guy who hit /v/ today is that he had a very large number of IP addresses to burn, and they're well distributed and otherwise innocuous. He's basically burning a custom botnet on us. Lord only knows where he got it from, or whether he owns it or rented it from somewhere. That does add some challenge. Also we're hearing rumblings that traffic to the site from Poland is getting disrupted, but we haven't received anything official about it, so it may be another Eurocuck network cucking somewhere. Polanons should try using .se and let us know if it happens there too. We've only heard about it affecting .moe so far. In good news, the crashed node from yesterday took my fixes and continued working today with no issues at all. I received notice of >200 illegitimate complaints made against us between three of our providers and they didn't even bother opening a ticket about it, so the deplatforming campaign against us is still a massive fail. We've upped some site parameter limits to better accommodate the extra load in Lynxchan, which should fix a couple minor errors people occasionally see. All in all things look good on the technical front. I hope everyone has a great Easter tomorrow! We've got plenty to work on.

A stealth "tie IDs together by cookies without telling the spammers" would absolutely ravage their IP addresses. Basically watch for cookies to hop between IPs, but still give them new IDs. Let them think they are samefagging. Make mods get an alert any time it jumps above 3 IPs per cookie. Weird how the paragraph spammers never talk about real solutions to combat spam. >>11302 1pbid-kun, you still need to make it so bypass tokens are tied to cookies, or you will keep VPN hopping.

>>11304 Well one of the biggest advantages to this place on the technical front is that the admin team runs it as a hobby. That doesn't mean "we can walk away at any time", it means "we find every part of it fun to some degree, even the frustrating parts." That's made sticking to our guns for five years pretty easy. Running 8chan is like our favorite videogame.
>>11305 Nope. You must make a new account and transfer your boards.

Came up in a thread on /b/ and it was suggested to repost it here: >I'd like to see a site that let anybody play with moderation, but your mod flags would only do something on another user's page if that user was actively choosing you to be a mod. >You think the OG mod of a board turns into a raging faggot one day? Unchoose them. No one else is affected. Also solves the proliferation of dead boards every time people are butthurt, as rather than starting a bunch of splinter boards trying to be the replacement, the competing groups could continue using the same board, just with different sets of chosen mods.

>>11293 So one thing I don't understand: You are blocked in both Ukraine and maybe now Poland, so I assume some government agency was involved - but you still have servers in both of these countries. So how does this work? Why didn't they take down those servers as well? Are they just that incompetent? Or did they turn them into honeypots lol?
>>11317 That's actually why. From what I understand, it works like this: >We set up in a country. That country, like all countries, has multiple networks owned by corpos and such that connect everyone. We get a server from a network that's okay with our site. Lets call them company A. However some other network that's connected to them are cucks. We'll call these cucks company B. What happens is, company B sees our traffic passing over their wires to go to and from company A because that's how the Internet works. They don't like this, but they can't dictate what company A is doing, so instead company B just blocks our shit from going over their network, maybe by malforming or plain old blackholing it. The result is that we have a server with company A that most of the world can use to get to the site, but anybody who lives in the area covered by company B's network can't access the site even though the two are neighbors. And company B may have enough leverage to pressure other networks to do the same thing. That's how it went down with the French ISPs back in 2021. We had servers with a smaller company there but some big French network cucked us completely. Similar stuff was done to Kiwifarms when they got deplatformed, only theirs was even worse because they owned their own ASN and IP block that could be targeted wholesale. Edit: Fun fact, Cloudflare did this to us too. Any traffic that would come to this site, no matter where its from, is malformed and cockblocked if it passes through a Cloudflare controlled network at any point in its journey. And no website can be set up on Cloudflare if any of its domains contains the string "8chan."

>>11293 >>11299 Probably a good idea would be to create tools that aren't just site-wide but board-wide. I'm a BO and I simply have no real tools to combat any kind of spam. Bans are a joke as they're extremely simple to dodge and spammers have no limitations on dodging them as network resources are more than plentiful and that's all it takes. In scenarios like this, the only solution the site provides is to stay glued to the screen to delete posts manually, which is stupid. And no one is going to come to the aid of a board that has a spammer problem unless it's a huge one, since it also wouldn't make sense to turn on a site-wide nuclear option for something that affects few users. >>11318 >they owned their own ASN and IP block that could be targeted wholesale oh shit
>>11318 Interesting, but also kinda disturbing. I'd just have assumed that e.g. Ukrainian government says "nope, this shit is illegal here, can't be hosted in our country", which would still be cucked but at the very least following some kind of law. If there's just some company that doesn't even have anything to do with your site going rogue and saying fuck you because they don't like the stuff, that's just another level of messed up. Welcome to the internet in the 2020s, I guess.
Is there a way to set an image limit for threads? On our board we don't want threads to become too large and setting a limit on the images that can be uploaded there is a good cue for users to create a new thread and link it in the old one. Just the bumplimit isn't really cutting it. Also I've often had that the board's allowed mime types get reset to just allow image/png when I change something completely unrelated in the settings, dunno if its a known bug or affects only me
>>11320 This has happened so many different times in so many different ways. When OG 8chan exploded people flocked to some other site whose name now escapes me that was maintained by some Australian guy. The attackers went after them too and although their host didn't bend to the pressure, their upstream provider threatened to cut the host off and they were forced to kick the site off their network or have their business destroyed.
>>11293 The .se domain seems to work. The ISP .moe stopped working on is Play.
>>11322 I'd understand if it was for stuff like literal CP, but that can't really be the issue here because then that wouldn't be necessary - CP is already illegal pretty much anywhere, so the hosters/site admins already are required to take this shit down ASAP, so there should be no need for a block. Of course there's lots of countries where they treat stuff like loli the same as actual CP, but then again the same principle would apply and hosters would just need to take it down, no need for a block.
>>11316 That falls strictly under local board jurisdiction.
>>11323 >>11293 If it's that the case, could the ips from the.se domain be used also on .moe?
>>11321 Seconding because this would be very useful for my board as well, we run into the same issue.
>>11318 Very interesting. >>11322 >just make your own... internet? >chans start pirate running fiber everywhere
>>11324 Adding to that, maybe it would be a good idea to make loli/shota boards VPN/Tor only or at least put up a PSA telling niggers to use it? Because when you are hosted somewhere where loli = CP, there's a real risk the hosters won't just shut you down but hand over all the user data they have, which could spell real trouble for anons who also live in cucked countries. (Of course if you live somewhere where that shit's illegal and use a site like this it's kind of your own fault if you don't have basic opsec)
If the LynxChan Minus Minus guy is here, please add this, thanks. document.querySelectorAll('.divMessage a:not(.quoteLink)').forEach((link) => { if(link.textContent.includes("youtu") && link.textContent.includes("si=")) { let stringindex = link.textContent.indexOf("si=") let sanitized = link.textContent.split(link.textContent.substring(stringindex, stringindex+19)).join("") if(sanitized.substring(sanitized.length-1) == "?") { sanitized = sanitized.slice(0, sanitized.length-1) } if(sanitized.includes("?&")) { sanitized = sanitized.split("?&").join("?") } link.textContent = sanitized link.href = sanitized } });
Any reason thread filters seem to be broke? putting the correct terms in the subject field and I can still see them Also is there any reason why going back in your tab history will randomly erase the forward history sometimes? It's inconsistent but seems to happen regardless of trying to reply to someone, and sometimes just from clicking back and I have to retrace whatever I had saved in the forward tab history

>>11324 For years now companies have ganged up to take the law into their own hands. >>11329 Yes, that's pretty much what kinda ended up happening. How do I make it so the ribbon links always go to catalog? Also what's the difference between .se and .moe?
>>11345 I don't see the problem with post IDs. You'll get used to them. They're also board specific, not all boards have them. I prefer using boards with IDs rather than without them because it's a lot easier to filter schizos and determined schizos will have to work that much harder to get their schizo shit through. Post quality is much higher on boards with IDs than boards without them. >>11348 I would very much like this, I think I saw someone post some script that does this but I didn't save it.
>>11349 Thread IDs are great when there are a fuckton of people. Not so much when it's the same 4-5 people every time and threads move very slowly.
>>11349 I'm the person who you quoted. It's only been 20 minutes but I already made a script to solve it. Idk if it can be used with the inline thing. I just use Tampermonkey https://files.catbox.moe/lc7h0e.txt It's crude and you have to put in every board you use. Doing it for every board requires bigger code-fu that I don't feel like bothering with
>>11349 IDs always on are okay for boards where majority posters are already shitposters, in some boards things can be partially civil and IDs can bring new flavor of shitpositng to a thread that didn't have problems before. An option for the IDs to be on or off for select threads, one way or another could work for some boards
>>11351 Couldn't you have just used https://8chan.moe/* instead of manually writing in every board? I'm no codemonkey but isn't that how it usually works?
>>11353 Yes, then you need to append the 'catalog.html' part of the URL to the current URL. I just don't feel like bothering but I'll still leave a crude solution that works anyway, it just makes you do it manually but good enough for me
>>11350 one solution I've proposed to some of the small threads I post in like that is a gentlemen's agreement of using css to hide them it's surprising how much better that feels
>>11352 > IDs can bring new flavor of shitpositng to a thread that didn't have problems before I have never heard of IDs creating shitposting, besides maybe checking for repeating numbers in them or funny letter combos, and usually this ends up making for a memorable thread and not a negative experience. The only go-between I can think of is maybe making it to where threads under a certain number of UIDs don't have them shown, but that just seems pointless. Voting is also useless because samefag schizos with access to IP spoofers will just game the voting system. Giving anons control is a bad idea.
>>11349 Why not go to reddit instead then? You're just here because you like the imageboard format at that point. The point is anonymity. The point is chaos and shitposts
>>11358 So use the chaos shitposting boards, dipshit. Wanting IDs has nothing to do with wanting it to be reddit. It isn't like you can click someone's ID and get their full posting history on the board. If you're afraid of your own post history in a thread, make better fucking posts.
>>11349 doesn't 2ch give the OP the decision to turn IDs on or not? anyway that could also be a solution. just vote with your (You)s and let the anons decide if they want to support r*ddit style mandatory tripfagging or an anonymous imageboard. >>11361 >Wanting IDs has nothing to do with wanting it to be reddit >If you're afraid of your own post history in a thread, make better fucking posts. atrocious. kill yourself immediately. you do not belong here.
>>11361 fair enough, I already noticed that there's a /v/ and /vb/ here, so it's a way to do it I guess. But maybe not when you have a low userbase.
>>11363 >atrocious. kill yourself immediately. you do not belong here. You're the one new to 8ch, not me. You're gonna get used to thread IDs or you can go back to cuckchan. It's really that simple. Throat my cock.
>>11357 There's accusations that every new ID is someone IP hopping and samefagging that way or other flavors of there not being right amount of posts form the right number of IDs, derailing the discussion form the topic of the thread to users of the said thread/board. I don't care what the actual method of having partial IDs is, it can even be a check box when creating a thread or board owners putting them on for select threads.
>11365 you're neither the site owner nor /a/'s board owner. this decision is not yours to make. you also smell like a newfag s*ytroon since most of us have been familiar with 8moe since the beginning, but didn't post regularly due to, among other reasons, IDs, and will go back to 4cuck if it'll be mostly the same as before and without IDs. enjoy your dead board.
>>11367 >enjoy your dead board. Enjoy your Stockholm syndrome and Naruto threads :^) >>11366 >There's accusations that every new ID is someone IP hopping Actual cases of this are pretty rare but are becoming more common, that's true. Maybe what we need are cookie-based thread IDs. Cookies are more annoying to clear, especially if you have autistic settings saved that are obnoxious to re-do. Like yeah, a dedicated autistic shitposter could save his cookie, delete it, then paste it back in after he makes his shitpost under his new thread ID, but will anyone really want to do this? I think fewer people would want to do it.
Cookie-based IDs will not remove the screeching about there not being right amount of posts form the right number of IDs. Not having IDs are better for that. I agree that some threads are better off with IDs. But when it's only some of the population on a board needs to babysat more thoroughly, a lot of the threads are worse off when the there weren't positives to gain but the downsides came anyway.
>>11371 In my eyes, there is no solution. Whiners gonna whine, niggers gonna nig. Turn off thread IDs, you'll get whiners accusing people of samefagging. Turn them on, you get the same shit but schizo version. I think they're better on than off, they let me filter out furfaggots who like to dump furshit, and it usually works, and that alone is good enough for me. I look at it from that utility standpoint alone.
>>11366 Of the threads I'm visiting, that seems contained to the meta thread on /a/. I guess cesspits like /dbs/ could also contain that, but any anon should know what he's getting himself into with that. >>11372 Having IDs off by default, but revealed for a subset of posters like via voting >>11341 or something should make a good compromise, no? Also, if you have somebody dump unrelated crap, just report them.
>>11373 >should make a good compromise, no? No, voting is definitely not the answer when dealing with anons. Anons cannot be trusted to count to 10 in a thread, let alone vote. >Also, if you have somebody dump unrelated crap, just report them. Why not just self-moderate instead? Why trouble the vols with something that can be vanished from your screen forever in 99% of cases with 2 clicks? I am a really big fan of self-moderation and not outright censorship. This is an anti-censorship website.
>>11372 what thread is that where you get furry spammers and it's not getting deleted for off-topic? poster ID basically removes the fun. It also reveals how there's only like 3 people in every general. It would've done that on 4chan too, that place has been bleeding users for years
Don’t know why IDs are such an issue, but what if IDs were to turn on for posters who reply to themselves after a certain number of times? Alternatively, for posters who make more than some threshold of posts in a threads, but I think the former is more targeted to hinder samefagging.
>>11376 >what thread is that where you get furry spammers and it's not getting deleted for off-topic? They eventually do get reported and deleted for off-topic, but it's nice to just click hide > filter ID. You wouldn't get it. Anyway this issue was solved literally 10 years ago and IDs are never going away. Sorry.
>>11372 This is why I'm suggesting partial IDs, if a board stands to benefit from having those. I again don't care if turning them on or off in some threads is something the board's management alone can affect. >>11373 That meta thread was made to contain the ID arguments so that it wouldn't happen in every thread all the time.
>>11377 >what if IDs were to turn on for posters who reply to themselves after a certain number of times? I don't like it, and it's a flawed concept. You can link your previous post for purposes other than samefagging.
>>11377 Somebody did suggest a feature that adds a (Me) to any post that is yours that you reply to that only other people can see. Like for example if I quoted myself here >>11375 (Me) I thought that would be a pretty funny way to solve samefagging.
>>11380 Maybe fine for the first couple of times, but after three or four times I would guess it’s less likely that you’re doing it in good faith.

>>11380 Also wanted to add that it would be a point system set in config. >if a post only includes a post number to a post made by the same user, they get 3 points >if it also includes a post number to a post made by someone else, 1 point instead >if a user replies to the same post regardless of who made it more than twice, 2 points for each subsequent response >after 6-7 points, user is ID’d
>>11388 They are. You're just gonna have to go back to cuckchan, that's all there is to it. This discussion was solved a decade ago and no amount of whining is going to force BOs to kneel to your requests. IDs are better on than off in 99/100 cases. If you disagree, use the designated chaos shitposting boards without IDs, everybody who agrees with you is there right now.
I can't get filters on catalog to work am I retarded or is it not possible yet? I have fullchanX and lynxExtended--
>>11391 Why are you constantly ignoring that the request is to give the option to test partial IDs?
>>11377 Actually, instead of an ID, it should turn on their country flag. That’ll REALLY piss them off.
>>11393 Because I think it's a stupid fucking idea and that IDs as they currently exist are a non-issue.
>>11393 I feel like you can take one look at that guy's posts and realize how completely unreasonable he is.
>>11395 And I'm here to suggest adding more tools for mods because IDs are an issue in some places, this is the truth, you said ourself you've noticed examples of the downsides. But I made my point, I'll leave this thread hoping that the admins of this site are actually willing to test ideas to improve the site.
>>11369 Yes, I have no idea why it's not cookie based. Also this captcha is a massive pain wtf, add the option to move to PoW already.
>>11397 If you don't like ID's then use/make a board without them. If you want a BO to remove ID's then petition that BO. This isn't 4chan dude, you don't need to appeal to the admins of the sites for that sort of shit. You can just choose to use a different board, make one yourself, or try to convince the BO to make the change. ID's are basically mandatory on high PPH boards to track discussion properly. On low PPH boards they aren't really necessary.
>>11399 >ID's are basically mandatory on high PPH boards to track discussion properly. On low PPH boards they aren't really necessary. ...which is why more control over their usage on boards which have a mix of high PPH threads and low PPH threads is desired
>>11400 Would be cool for BOs to be able to set a pph/thread before IDs are activated for the thread. If someone wants to samefag they have to get in early.
>>11400 Why is this so important for you? If this is the dealbreaker for you, you really just aught to go back to cuckchan when it goes back up so you can do what you're told by the admins, like you so clearly desire.
>>11400 How would you know whether or not a thread would be high PPH or low PPH until it was already made? It seems like you're over-complicating something that ultimately doesn't matter that much. ID's aren't necessary in a low PPH setting, but they also aren't really much of a detriment either. I'm all for more agency and control over boards, so I don't really disagree with being able to set ID's on for individual threads. But I also know that Acid and Codexx develop lynxchan at a glacial pace and there are about a thousand more important features that the site needs right now.
>>11401 That's an interesting idea actually. My main issue with IDs lies in slow threads which might last for multiple days or even longer than a week. I've thought of them adding a simple date field to the hash so that the IDs will reset per day, but them being activated after a certain point is pretty novel too. Probably more difficult to implement, however. >>11402 because overall I like this site and it has a lot of features I like and I want to keep using it and the admins actually seem to respect the feedback and feature requests they receive? Am I not allowed to suggest that the features could be improved? Why are you so hesitant to any change at all to the ID system?
>>11404 Though I'm realizing there's an issue with the pph threshold because what happens if a thread experiences a burst of posting due to some event and then dies down again later? is it stuck with IDs forever after or do they go away again? just seems messy
>>11404 >hesitant to any change at all to the ID system Because there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it and there's way better shit for the admins to do and much better shit for them to implement than your pedantic bullshit.

Archives What does archiving a thread do? I can't do it even as a board owner. I assume there's no desuarchive equivalent and so on? What the fuck is this? My browser slows to a crawl every time I open this site, is it mining bitcoin on my computer or some shit?
>>11440 Are you trying to solve the bypass captcha? It does the functional equivalent of mining bitcoin to unlock a bypass so you can post. Though it isn't actually mining bitcoin and should only be spiking your CPU while you're solving the captcha and not continuously. It's called proof of work and is a relatively standard anti-bot mitigation technique. But it sounds like you're experiencing it constantly rather than only when solving the captcha?

8chan.moe seems to decide to send me 404s as if I'm connecting with my real IP from Russia. I understand, Russia is blocked sitewide because Roskomfaggots have been trying to thoroughly ruin the internet for every ruskie for a decade, regular users like me are collateral damage, whatever, that's not news, we're used to it. So I've been using a personal Netherlands based VPS to connect to the site. However, it still starts to send me 404s seemingly at random, for random amounts of time. I happily lurk for several hours, then I notice the thread stops updating, I F5 the page and I'm suddenly facing 404 errors for the next few hours. Then after some time I'm able to connect as normal even without going through the landing page where I have to accept the rules. After a few hours, the cycle repeats. No set time, no indication of what's happening, no clear pattern to it. What the hell is going on? Is my real IP leaking through somehow? Does 8moe get a sniff of a Russian-based cookie somewhere in my browser or something? Meanwhile, 8se loads about 95% of the time, sometimes failing to load for a few seconds, but otherwise working fine. 8cc doesn't load at all, I think. On another note, 8se's auto updates inside threads are also randomly breaking on my end. Sometimes they work, sometimes they're delayed, sometimes there's a black circle near the checkbox at the bottom of the page that says "connecting to WS", sometimes the "Refresh" button kickstarts the thing for a while, sometimes it doesn't work at all. Also seemingly no pattern to it - except them not working most of the time - and it's happening only on 8se.
Is it possible to enable a red line showing up to divide new posts and old posts after an auto-refresh, like on 4chan?
>>11464 >idk but reloading 1000 posts in some threads i enter here can be rough That's because the frontend triggers a reflow for every post by accessing innerText property instead of textContent. It's very easy to fix.
>>11465 Not the admins but I'm also a ruskie and I noticed in the network tab of the dev console of firefox that when i click the auto checkbox it attempts a websocket connection to the live update service i assume, which then fails. I use foxyproxy to selectively route things around multiple tunnels but i've yet to figure out how to make it include the websocket.

One of .moes IPs (140.233.190.154) has gone bad again
Thinking about it, what would FUNDAMENTALLY help handle the spam? I remember PoW captchas being thrown around in the /v/ meta thread, and that could definitely help due to that system seeming like it would be most effective on incredibly weak systems (raspberry pis) or reduce the amount of bots that a single computer can run. So I guess that's the question: What can be done to reduce or remove bots from the system, while providing minimal disruption to legitimate users?
>>11474 Spam nowadays mainly comes from residential botnet proxy providers, who sell their services by bandwidth, and they're usually pretty expensive, but spammers can afford it because making a text post uses almost no bandwidth You can't completely solve it, but an idea I had was to force every new IP to download a unique 10MB+ file, hash it, and submit the hash to post for the first few posts from their IP. Or the other way around, force clients to generate a file from a seed and upload it. This would greatly increase the costs to spam using residential proxies.

>>11508 It's not the opposite issue, where the spam, which at high enough speed automatically triggers per post captcha on a board, is burning through the generated captchas so fast that it's throttling everything?
>>11513 I had a user of my board complain about that too. As far as I remember the only thing that page does is set a cookie, maybe there's some restriction for cookies on your setup? You could try creating the cookie manually as a workaround I guess.

>>11513 >>11524 Do you have network.http.referer.spoofSource set to True in about:config? That's what made it not work for me. Note that after setting it to False you also have to delete the cached data for 8chan (Settings>Manage Data), otherwise it continues to not work. Alternatively it could be something else to do with your referer settings, like if you're disabling referers entirely. Or cookie settings stopping you from getting the TOS=1 cookie, but any cookie settings strict enough to stop that should be breaking lots of other sites too.
>>11481 That's what cuckchanners said because they were made accustomed to removal-of-anonymity measures until they were making accounts with email addresses like any other normalfag forum. Regardless, I heard PoW bypass made it unnecessary to block VPNs, yet VPN gateways are getting blocked anyway. An extreme example is how on R*ddit, mentally ill people unironically go through other people's post history and bring irrelevant shit up. If IDs changed daily, I would have zero problem with them being on for all threads all the time. >>11363 >doesn't 2ch give the OP the decision to turn IDs on or not? For starters, on 2ch having IDs is not an issue because all IDs reset every day. This is literally the simplest solution. But there are more settings available based on the settings of the board. There is a different kind of optional ID on 2ch which can be turned on on a per-thread basis (they may include other things like user agent). These IDs are global to each server, but even these change every week. It's probably a bit too much redditification for now, though. It's not an OG feature, it was implemented a lot later.

>>11534 We souped up two of the network nodes (paid for more cores), so things should be a little faster on average. Also increased the captchas to reduce collisions when posting, so fewer accidental captcha failures. The site's looking good today. There have been no more complaints, real or imagined, sent to our services since early this morning. The deplatforming attack has flopped. However the site got hit by a pretty good sized DDoS this afternoon. The host CDNs, packet filters, and built in DDoS guards handled it very well, and the site only experienced some mild chugging for the ~3 hours that it ran. No idea if it was the same people who tried to deplatform us all week, but the timing suggests there's a pretty good chance that it was. I hope everyone had a great Easter Sunday. We're looking at more things in the background this week, and need to brush up some of our tools and backend features. If we expect anything to cause downtime we'll make an announcement first.
>>11421 When you try to post again, it should tell you unless the ban/warn has expired. Then you'd have to find your ban in the logs. >>11427 I see a lot of speculation on this so here's the full story: LynxChan natively has an "archive" feature. All it does, really, is lock a thread in read-only mode and pull it off the catalog. The media is preserved. When we first launched, this was deemed to be a risk. Our media storage was tiny and we thought we'd fill it up incredibly fast. As a quick fix, we added some JS to redirect users to the archive.today page while auto-filling URLs. At some point, a pedophile tried to get the site taken down by uploading CP and then immediately archiving the thread. They would do this knowing the images were deleted within minutes. They would then submit the archive with an abuse report to our hosts. To combat this, we decided to spin up the archive.8chan.moe subdomain. Archival was allowed there, but blocked images, and the disclaimer was made to rotate. Over time, archive.today continually cracked our disclaimer cookie to circumvent the problem. The admin has handwaved concerns about CP. Currently, we are working to make the disclaimer less aggressive and to re-enable LynxChan native archiving. With the increased traffic, we have to once again consider if we could handle the storage requirements. If archives are used sparingly then it won't be a problem, but it seems there's a contingent who wish to archive every thread ever made. If someone wants to spin up an independent archive site that pulls threads from here periodically, I'd be happy to advise how that works. I wrote a thread migration tool some years back which may be of some use: https://gitgud.io/Codexx/channel_changer/-/tree/master Feel free to contact me if this interests you. But I do hope we can run our own archives soon enough. >>11404 Please keep suggestions rolling in. >>11547 You guys are retreading 4chans steps to some degree, lol. Please enable global per-thread IDs. The only people I've seen arguing against IDs want to spam. Nobody cares if someone is 42f7b2. Only spammers and samefags hate IDs. Lack of IDs allowed lots of spam on 4chan.
>>11542 It is when threads live for several days. Especially when you have to reveal your more permanent identity for one reason or another. I couldn't care less about IDs on a fast board like 4chan's /pol/. >>11544 Eat dick.
>>11544 Checked. 4chan boards had no IDs so it was easier to spam. IDs make organized spammers get VPNs, and they hate that.
There's too many posts for me to check if someone else reported it, but there is a new type of bug popping up at least on /gacha/ Sometimes posters make posts and they don't appear at all on the list of posts. If you refresh, then they appear. This causes weird gaps and confusion.
>>11548 It's a hard problem for the admins to adress. In a faster thread, it definitely curbs a lot of shitposting and prevents samefagging but in a slower thread it might prevent people from posting or it might make some people too self-conscious to continue posting if their ID stays the same for days since a lot of people come to the chans for the anonymity.
>>11552 That was probably caused by the DDoS chug affecting liveposting. It should be resolved since that ended. In such a case, check the bottom of the thread for the green light to see if websockets are on.
>>11554 It happened as recently as 30 mins ago, unless the ddos was still going 30 mins ago.
>>11555 https://8chan.se/gacha/res/89470.html#95325 this post is the one that I am referring to. I saw people replying to it, but couldnt see it myself. When I refreshed, it appeared.

Is there any way for me to contact someone to talk about this? I genuinely don't think I should be permabanned and that I must've been caught up in some crossfire or something.
>>11557 >>11556 PS the thread I linked is also going thru some sort of lag where people keep doubleposting, especially with images. >>11556
>>11558 appeal the ban and put 88888 as the reason so we can look it up, and we'll check it. There were some accidental bad bans last night due to a bug in one of our new nodes.
>>11548 I keep posting it everywhere because I'm convinced it will solve at least half of the issues with samefagging and spamming while keeping IDs disabled so the majority of users can post in near-total anonymity. For spammers, have a 10-20 second cooldown between posts and get the ratio of UIDs to Posts. If it is too high, then there is most likely a bot attack, and if it's too low, then it's just a single retard. The cooldown would prevent the single retard from doing enough damage to the thread, but for the bot attack, the system would send a report to the board vols if the ratio is moderately high and to the gvols if the ratio is extremely high. Thread would also go into slow mode if the post per second is too high. For samefagging, if you were on a board were IDs are disabled but the board had the samefag flagging setting on, then IDs would be activated on a per poster basis if a poster replies to their own posts multiple times (the exact number would have to be tweaked) or replies to any single post more than twice. Of course, this wouldn't matter with IP hopping, but it would catch enough retards off-guard. This is something I was planning to work on myself, but Codexx could probably do it faster if he really is assembling a dev team.
>>11561 Sorry, I already ran the ban appeal with my confusion about it, my ban appeal would be something sort of similar to >>11558 about how I just woke up to it. I have the ban ID still if I can send that?
>>11562 We've seen your posts, but there are issues with the technical implementations of doing exactly what you describe. Or to put it simply, 8chan works so well because its built different compared to any other kind of imageboard software. But those same differences also mean that stuff like you describe that can be made to work on a site like 4chan, can't work here. We do have some equivalents, but we're still in the "gathering data" stage of improving them, and we haven't actually used any of them yet since all you guys arrived. >>11563 Ban ID pls?
>>11562 IDs catch a lot more than just samefagging though. A lot of the threads I was in had the issue with some retard forcing a topic or forcing a narrative over and over and over without actually samefagging. Without IDs, you'd think it was the popular opinion and start adopting the opinion yourself. With IDs, you can see it's quite literally just one idiot throwing a tantrum in an attempt to get their way while trying to manipulate everyone into thinking the same. With IDs, it's also MUCH easier to filter problematic posters or annoying posters that would otherwise be impossible to filter. Some annoying guy making horrible posts because the rest of the thread is fine? Filter the idiot and suddenly the thread is amazing. IDs are great and IDs should definitely stay, I just wish IDs cycled more often like maybe once a day like how some other anon suggested so if people want a different ID and don't want to go through the hassle of changing their IP or VPNing then they can just simply take a break and come back to that thread tomorrow.
>>11564 Sorry, captcha being a pain.
>>11562 Something like this would not work for a motivated samefagger and would actually harm your cause. Truly schizo samefaggers have already demonstrated they are willing to change IP every single post so they get (1) next to their name every time. This makes their samefagging obvious, but gives them bare minimum plausible deniability. In response, normal thread goers have started watching for (1) posters. If you make a system that relies on good faith IP activity by same faggers, you will get same faggers who change IP and would be showing (1) all the time but now have no IDs shown because of hopping, which will be "proof" that they're not samefagging (lie).
>>11567 There's no active ban in the database with that ID. Try making a normal post there and see if you're still banned.
>>11569 You're right, it seems to post fine now. Thank you for the help, much appreciated.
>>11570 Awesome! Have a great night.
>>11564 I'll investigate the issue more, particularly for the samefagging. I'm guessing that replies aren't kept track up in the database and just part of the data string, meaning the back end would have to run a parser and thus slow things down. >>11566 >>11568 These are some good points. It's going to be hard fighting against (1)s, but this might be something that falls under anti-spam and has to be dealt with by a mod. There are some good benefits with the filtering, but a sizeable group of posters just think that it's part of the game to deal with shitters.
>>11572 >but a sizeable group of posters just think that it's part of the game to deal with shitters. It shouldn't be part of the deal, the idea is to improve the experience not worsen it. IDs definitely need some improvements but right now they're great and really do their job. The only real issue that needs to be tackled with them is how posters having the same ID makes them not engage with the thread anymore since they get overly self-conscious for how much they've been posting so if they cycled more often then they could just wait like 24 hours and get a new ID later.

>>11357 the solution i letting anons hide id's on their end
>>11575 It’s not as if IDs have always been a good thing. There have been plenty of times where people argue over the amount of posts an ID had or where posts would be dismissed if they only had (1). Even so, the whole premise of the site is to defer moderation to board owners, and this is an option a lot of people would like.
>>11546 >>11547 I've been a little frustrated with some of the slowness especially on boards that require captchas on every post but it seems like you guys are genuinely working on things and open to a lot of feedback. This site has a lot going for it, I hope it can grow and improve.
>>11579 I think the 1pbtid shitposting is a lot better than the old shitposting that happened without IDs though. Truth of the matter is that people will shitpost with or without IDs but IDs limits the avenues of shitposting avaliable to them so it is overall a good thing. The only problem with IDs is "standing out" and your ID really stands out if you only have 1 post or have 50 posts which is what causes most of the shitposting but other than that, most of the old awful shitposting that would allow a couple bad actors to completely kill a thread has been mostly removed due to IDs.

At this point /v/ is getting way too many acerbic posters who want to shit up the site without any regard for discussion quality and reminders from native anons aren't going to cut it, the moderation needs to actually start enforcing the sticky. >no more shitting up the catalog with duplicate topics because you didn't check >no "chatroom culture" >no template posting >no ebonics >no picking fights or inciting flame wars >thread needs to have a title >thread cannot be a >>>/vg/ style general (cry about it Mark nobody is using >>>/vgg/) >thread needs to be longer than 100 characters >thread needs to either have a webm with sound or five images in OP as a litmus test of basic reading comprehension and fulfillment of imageboards' primary draw, posting images and videos If it means a lot of babies crying about it like with the spammers wailing about IDs so be it, but /v/ shouldn't turn into cuck/v/ just because of PPH, we all know it doesn't mean anything after the sales shitflingers and the XIV spammer came here and actively damaged the site's operations over their malformed amygdalas. OI ADMINISTRATION Add a sitewide announcement for people to use 8chan.se if the .moe domain is having issues for them (which for many people, it is). This time I tried to look in the network console for what was happening: >started looking at 08:00:50 GMT, everything was working as intended >at 08:14:18 GMT, I get a HTTP 302 response from captcha.js with a HTTP 200 response containing the captcha image at the same second >starting from 08:14:40 GMT, there's a 404 error every 20-40 seconds or so, likely thread trying to auto-update and failing >at 08:44:43 GMT, started receiving HTTP 200 responses as normal again. At the time when the 404 errors started, I was not trying to post and the tab wasn't even active. As far as I'm aware, I haven't performed any actions related to the site other than having the page open. What can be causing the problem?

>>11594 Well that's fucking stupid, why should I have to keep agreeing to the TOS unless it changes?
You can solve it for the height at least, but the heights of turtle/cat are arbitrary. Imagine two planes in 3D space, which those equations describe. If they aren't parallel they will necessarily have an intersection described by a line. A line is described by two data (e.g. direction and intercept) and so we can solve for the line exactly since we have two data points. The height just happens to be the "intercept" if you like. x = 170 -z + y (170 - z + y) - z +y = 130 2(-z +y) = -40 -z +y = -40 x = 170 +(-z +y) x = 170 + (-40) x = 130 Note that if we assume (z, y) >= 0, then necessarily y=0. Due to that I think there's something missing.

Sorry for the moderator tools breaking. I was working to patch something critical this morning and had to put a catch in that block which disrupted things. Was hoping to have everything back online before anyone noticed, but I'm a bit sleep deprived and it took me longer than I'd have liked. Globals still had access and I asked them to keep an eye out for spam. Moderation tools should be fixed now.
On my board I'm not able to use the Threadwise R9k option, Any time I check it in the manage board options and save it, it just unchecks itself. Unique Post and Unique Image works but that one doesn't. Is this a bug or does the option require other options checked?

I think we should abolish board creation and just keep a couple of core boards so the community d doesn't get too streched. Does anyone else remember iro2? it was a cool website, shame they pulled the plug
>>11675 >We would, yes. I just accepted a PR and a patch submitted by e-mail yesterday along with my own tweaks. Cool, are those public anywhere? I don't see them on the master branch on gitgud's LynxChan repo (last updated 6 months ago). Not trying to second guess you, but I want to make sure whatever commit I base my patches on aren't too divergent from the running codebase. Also, do you track issue/feature priorities publicly anywhere? I definitely don't want or expect like full scrum faggotry, but it'd be useful to know what's burning hottest, if you track that anywhere outside your head. I'll send you a PM on matrix too, but I figure if you can answer publicly here, it'll useful for anyone else in the same boat (able and willing to contribute, dunno how).
The site warnings/ban system could seriously use some work. If I get warned on a board then I have absolutely no idea what post offended some mods sensibilities and the error doesn't go away until I refresh. The 4chan ban messages were a lot more detailed since those specify what post got you banned or reported even if the bans made no sense more often than not.

>>11679 As long as people are centralized on a single website board fragmentation is not that much of a concern. Especially not to the point where people need to be forced into curated boards. You're coming into a place where people were fragmented over a dozen entirely different websites at some point. Yes, people should try to concentrate their activity into single boards when it makes sense as this increases activity. But people should be doing this organically anyways. Culturally you should make a point of advocating for it. A lot of the hentai boards for example are needlessly fragmented. But it should never be forced onto users.

General feedback: 1. I made my own board https://8chan.moe/lounge/ just for lulz and also to test some things out. Made some banners as well, but it turns out that banners show up only on your own board and nowhere else on the site. What's the point then? The point of a banner is to attract posters from other boards to yours. That's what it was like on 4chan and on the original 8chan. But here it seems like every single board only displays its own banners, which in my opinion defeats the whole purpose. 2. I don't see how one would attract posters from the rest of the site to their own board, short of resorting to spamming other boards like an obnoxious faggot. It seems like all the "latest images and posts" that pop up on the main page are only from a handful of pre-approved boards, which is honestly lame. What's the point of having a site where anyone can create their own board if no one will ever even see said board? 3. Uploading images or even just making threads/posts is painful. I sometimes have to wait for a few minutes until I get a confirmation that my post/thread has been posted. Why can't it be instantaneous? It's really frustrating. And because of it I sometimes end up double-posting the same damn thing. 4. When a janny edits a post on a board they moderate, everyone can see their username. I don't think that's a good idea, honestly. Only other jannies should see who edited a post/thread, and not just anyone.

I agree there should be a way to properly advertise your board. >When a janny edits a post on a board they moderate, everyone can see their username. What is the problem with this? Jannies shouldn't be allowed to just edit any post without any indication that it was edited. Low priority, but something I noticed about embedding with timestamps. >>>/vyt/87423 >>>/vyt/88704 Apparently, the only way for a timestamp to work here is in these formats. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID&t=TIMESTAMP_WITH_LETTERS[&OPTIONAL_SHIT] >https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID?t=TIMESTAMP_WITH_LETTERS[&OPTIONAL_SHIT] It doesn't work if your timestamp is just the number, it has to be in the "15s" notation, using just "15" causes the embed to ignore it. And If you put the timestamp in the end, regardless of the format, it's going to start at the end of the video.
