It's what made it unique, and it wasn't just shoehorned-in grimderp; it was foreshadowed heavily, and was more plausible than the alternative. Without it, Divine Trials is just like every other high-quality CYOA floating around. Great, but no longer perfect. What's the last version that still had the bad ending?
