Interesting context with this one: >This piece has been a strange adventure full of ups and downs (or should I say downs and ups). But that's a good thing, because it chased me out of some comfort zones! Let's see here: >- It's much more simple than it might seem. Feels too simple in fact, from the scene setup standpoint. But does it LOOK too simple? Absolutely not. Other than the character, there are only two objects in this scene (but it did take a long while to get them right). >- There are three suns (and one sky) lighting the whole thing. <- The Moon is made using actual scans from NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio (available here) https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720/, but I used it in a very unconventional way to exaggerate its features (it's not just very strong displacement, but several displacements on multiple geometric subdivision levels). >- The postwork in this is load-bearing on a legendary level. It does more than 50% of the work to make the piece look as good as it does. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the render until I got about halfway into the postwork. Needed a considerable chunk of faith and hope to carry on. #relatable >- SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE (something I NEVER make because it's hard to make it look interesting but I guess I'm wearing clown shoes because I mean just look at it).
