I just finished reading the entirety of Aphelion over the course of the past few days. That was excellent. I'm actually just sitting back and thinking, I'm going to miss the survey corps. Sad to see not a single one of them survived. Seeing all the dolls got affected by them one way or another was great. Even Klukai sand their song, making it a great ending to this arc.
That said, I'm really concerned from realizing that Klukai and the other dolls in general are still pretty rigid in how they think humans will behave. Did they really think that, after all the Survey Corps had gone through, that they'd consider betraying what they were constantly dying for? "Human unpredictability" my ass, it's like their understanding of humans is still just skin-deep even after all those years. I had similar concerns with the dolls during Sojourners, but at least Ullrid was there, trying to make hard choices while all others were treating their calculations as their gospel.
On a semi-related note, this whole "understanding of humans" conundrum is why I have high hopes for what they have planned for Groza. It's pretty clear that, since she refuses to swap frames and her thoughts prior to her attempted self-sacrifice during Reissi's event story, she's seemingly aware that her death is the end of her, and the Groza that'd come from a neural backup is not her. Just being aware of that should pull her much closer to understanding how humans think. Enemy Groza will probably play a key role in this plotline. Who has the right to be the real Groza when the original, pre-Darture fight Groza is somehow still alive? How will that rebuilt Groza think, seeing the new Groza around SKK?
Anyway, these are all the thoughts I wanted to get out of my chest. I hope Mimisbrunnr's Loop and Deep Oblivion will reach the same heights Aphelion reached. Did Mimisbrunnr's Loop really have that many issues for rumors about a rewrite to come up?
