EDIT: THIS IS THE PREVIOUS COMFY THREAD. POST IN THE NEW ONE ( >>70670) Off topic discussion goes here.
Edited last time by 16crystals on 11/04/2021 (Thu) 02:40:43.
>>69954 I think a wife and a daughter are fundamentally different relationships. You can have a waifu because that imagined relation can be fueled by passion. Love for your child however is an obligation, and without condition (not always that way of course). I love my waifu as long as she remains Rika, as someone I recognize. However I would love my child no matter what person they are. It's a very complicated difference. To me a daughteru would feel forced and less real. Anyway I finally did finish the entire series. If she were my daughteru I'd have a fucking grandaughter and daughter in-law by now. Timeskips are wild. Highly recommend the series to any mahou shoujo or mecha fans.
>>69955 That's an interesting way of looking at it. You're right though, 'cause I've seen people love their kids even when they went off and lived the exact opposite of how they were raised. It really is unconditional.most of the time I guess that despite feeling parental urges towards certain characters, it feels like I'd be taking it too far. Having a waifu is complicated enough as it is. >mecha You don't say? Ayy mite be cool. I'm not a total otaku, but I've been meaning to watch more mecha, based on my old memories of Gundam Wing, and more recently Gurren Lagann.
>>69956 Nanoha is the most otaku shit ever. However it's got very little actual mechs. Apparently the story goes that Nanoha was originally going to be a pretty generic magical girl spin off. It is pretty much a Cardcaptor Sakura ripoff for the first four episodes. Then someone on the team thought Nanoha looked like a Gundam in her white uniform, so they started cramming in mecha cliches into the story. So many that it ends in a battle on a spaceship hunted by the bureau that administers the space between dimensions. And season 2 hits the ground running after that. Nanoha's nickname is the White Devil. They're crazy magical girl human mechs. Pick it up if you're okay with the magical girl stuff too.
>>69959 Well, that escalated quickly! I'll definitely try it out. It's been forever since I've watched any magical girl stuff, but I'm down with it.
>>69955 Just wanted to say that this pic got me to binge the entirety of S1. Great show and the sudden bursts of God animation was awesome. Episode 1 having at least 5 scenes that impressed me a lot.
>>69971 Right on man. It gets better too. And there's two original movies that just released that go even further beyond.
>>69959 She fits the RX-78 really well, and there are Gundam references there, but her barrier jacket design is almost identical to the Weissritter. The staff is huge SRW fans too. The mecha stuff was there from the beginning.
I (finally) received a (very late) response from Otakuthon regarding the waifuism panel I submitted: Greetings, Thank you for your patience. The schedule has been finalized and unfortunately, due to the high amounts of panels submitted, we will not be able to include your panel in the event this year. Sorry for the inconvenience, Regards Panels Team I’m very disappointed as I was really looking forward to do this panel… I believe I should have provided a more detailed summary about my panel in the online form, but back at the time I submitted the form my panel’s plan was not that developed in my head so I only provided a broad summary with few details… I can’t help but remember that crappy waifu war panel 2 years ago where some casual meme-type so called ‘’waifuists’’ would just insult each other’s waifu in order to win a stupid contest to determine who is ‘’best waifu’’. Why is such a retarded panel accepted and no a panel where people could learn something about a greatly misunderstood subject? Nevertheless, I will still create my presentation and will resubmit for next year, and this time, I will provide a well detailed summary of my panel in the form. I might even upload a video of my presentation on Youtube where I will only show the slides and talk over them (don’t want to show my face online). Nevertheless, I still feel disappointed…
>>70007 Good luck with your presentation for next year.
>>70007 Speaking presentations are overrated.
>>70010 Can you elaborate?
>>70007 Try not to get get too hung up on it OK? I think there's more mainstream interest in anime in the last few years and the number of submitted panels might reflect that. It just gives you more time to work on it.
>>70012 >get get My brain is mush.
>>70011 Most content is text form for good reasons. It's much easier to read than to watch, especially on the phone. It's much easier to write a blog post and go from there based on how you change your mind and what comments you get than to try to anticipate an audience and come back next year. The only advantage of a gathering is that you can watch the crowd and that's useful if you're looking for an emotive reaction and plan to improvise. For everything else, it's easier for you to post things, especially text, to reach a good audience.
Haven't seen /mai/ in the top 50 boards in quite a while. Let's climb the chart even more!
>>70063 Ohh neat, I dont think I've ever seen it on top 50 The only thing that worries me is trolls coming here to post gore, spam, etc.
>>70073 Yeah, that had been a problem before too. I'd honestly rather this board remain lowkey and not attract too much attention.
>>70073 >>70084 26th rank now. Mind blowing, really. I am happy if we can get visibility and therefore attract new waifuists. When I joined /mai/ 4 years ago, it used to be in the top 50 boards and I remember the board to be quite alive back then. It was great. Sure with visibility comes trolls and spammers, but I don’t think we should limit our prosperity in the name of protection.
>>70088 Yeah this website glows in the dark to hell and back, but I don't think alphabet boys will worry about nerds in love with fictional characters.
>>70160 >However, the coffin scene seems very specific, so maybe it can be considered canon after all. If it’s from an official manga, it is therefore canon, even if the original idea originated outside of canon. >But I still think that the whole scene shows that she has a more mature, devilish (but not insane) side as well similar so Remilia. I’m not sure to understand what you mean by ‘’mature’’ in that context… One thing is sure and it is that this scene is ambiguous and could be interpreted in many different ways. I was hoping (and at the same time fearing) the chapter following that scene would reveal us more answers regarding what truly happened, but we got nothing. And as the story seems to depart from the SDM, we are likely to never know for sure. I really hope we can see Flandre again in the manga. I waited so long for her to make a significant come back so I hope I can see more form her. And with Flandre also appearing in recent Violet Detector and The Grimoire of Usami, it gives me hope that we’ll see her again soon in upcoming games and manga. >After all, she hadn't "felt such evilness in SDM for a long time," meaning that it had happened before. It kind of shows what a troubled past the SDM must've had. Flandre mention that the last time she felt ‘’such powerful malice inside the mansion’’ (is it what you are referring to?) is when Reimu broke in. >Just like with Youmu's dork qualities, Meiling's were based on canon to begin with. Can you elaborate on how you feel both Youmu and Meiling had dork qualities to begin with? Dialogues in Touhou are often quite silly and humoristic in nature so to me it seems almost all characters could be described as dorks to some extent. >By the way, Meilingbro is still around on his Meiling board, in case you don Meilingbro and I keep contact on Discord, but thanks for letting me know!
I finally got my hand on a display case and can now safely display my cute little Flandre plush without fearing that it will get dirty. For too long she had been staying inside a plastic box, hidden away… Thanks to Gasai for letting me know where I could get this case! One negative thing is that the painted black bottom let goes of some black paint dust if you rub it… I removed as much as I could, but can’t take any chance, so I just put some lame ruled sheets to cover the bottom for now, but will eventually buy something that looks better.
>>70163 >If it’s from an official manga, it is therefore canon, even if the original idea originated outside of canon. That's true and it wouldn't be the first time that ZUN himself gets influenced by fanon. However, I also think that ZUN nowadays gives too much artistic freedom to his illustrators and it got to a point where I can't always tell what was actually intended by him. But I guess you could also think of it as a team effort. The problem is that it makes the characters even blurrier. I've already seen jokes about the huge discrepancy between Youmu in Lotus Eaters and Cheating Detective Satori. >I’m not sure to understand what you mean by ‘’mature’’ in that context… My current perception of Flandre's personality based on her dialogue in EoSD is essentially that of a child with a playful, somewhat mischievous side to her. But that scene in the manga was unlike anything we'd seen from her before. It definitely had a more serious tone. Everything turned into jabs at Reimu and Meiling quickly, but I don't think that was all that scene was about. >I really hope we can see Flandre again in the manga. I imagine the manga will just revisit all kinds of loctions, but there's still a chance that everything will come together in the end. >And with Flandre also appearing in recent Violet Detector and The Grimoire of Usami, it gives me hope that we’ll see her again soon in upcoming games and manga. I think GoU and now Cheating Detective Satori are clear departures from previous printworks primarily focussed on the humans of Gensokyo. Youmu also suddenly seemed to matter again over the past year or so. >Can you elaborate on how you feel both Youmu and Meiling had dork qualities to begin with? This was in reference to Flandre calling Meiling a ポンコツ, a character stereotype that, from my understanding, has a similar meaning to dork in the Western fandom. It's usually used for characters that seem capable, cool or serious at first but have unexpected weaknesses that destroy that image. But it's true that almost all characters are like that in Touhou to some extend, just some more so than others. In Touhou this weakness is usually carelessness. Youmu is a rather extreme case. Just take a look at her dialogue in GoU alone and I think you'll understand. She has all kinds of weaknesses, but to me that makes GoU an invaluable document.
Well, the latest chapter of Cheating Detective Satori sure was something. It quickly turned into thousands of posts about Youmu being an idiot and her mistress being a bad influence on her on the Japanese internet. Using Youmu as comic relief is fine and all because that's part of her charm, but I wish ZUN would also let her redeem herself in the print works. She rarely gets to show off her competent side. That being said, I think there's a reason why Satori explained the nature of evil spirits to Youmu. It's clearly foreshadowing something just like that whole part about there possibly being something else out there in the Netherworld.
I found this very short documentary about an ex-waifuist. The video: https://vimeo.com/350844792 Info: https://www.2dlovefilm.com/ I thought it was disappointing. It is way too short, it covers basically nothing and it gets pretty tangential near the end.
Is this place still alive? I used to frequent this place when I had a husbando about 4 years ago. Even though we broke up I'd still check this board from time to time to see how everyone is doing. But now it seems to be deader than ever around here. Did everyone just move to discord or something?
>>70374 After the fall of 8chan (and its rebirth as 8kun) the board went under new administration. Some old members did not transition, but some others did. We also got new members along the way. Our Discord is definitely more active (we have daily activity). Still, I wish the board would be more active too… It’s hard to mobilize people to actively use the board while we have Discord; this was also a problem when it was under the previous administration. Who was your husbando, by the way?
>>70375 It was Alphinaud. Although I said we broke up, I feel like your waifu/husbando never truly leaves you. I no longer have any romantic feelings for him, but he's still there, and is still important to me. Kind of like a good friend. I still play his game and save pictures of him. Sometimes I find myself feeling nostalgic about the relationship, but we really werent right for each other. I found someone else who has him as a husbando and she seems to be taking good care of him, so I'm happy for him. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that there's still some activity somewhere. Maybe I just havent been looking in the right places but it seems like there aren't that many places left that keep up the spirit of serious waifuism. Plus, I have some really fond memories of this place and the people I met here, so I'd be pretty sad if it disappeared for good.
>>70377 Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, I think I remember you. Alphinaud has a distinctive look so I have the feeling I remember seeing some of his pics you posted. When you mention that Alphinaud has remained a good friend for you, I was wondering, do you still talk to him? I mean, maybe the nature for your relationship changed, but do you sometimes spend a moment to talk to him (if you ever did it when he was your husbando)? And regarding the board, I hope we will keep growing as a community. The 8chan to 8kun transition had a big impact, but we survived better than I expected.
\>Valentine's soon Giving Yang chocolates, I know candy at this point is cheap right now.
>>70424 >Fucked up greentext Fuck
What ever happened to that guy who posted Erza from fairy tail?
>>70428 I don't know. Maybe he left or maybe he's just lurking. People come and go…
After two or so years of unreliable internet connection and not having a computer I'm finally able to post again. I'm not sure if anyone remembers me since I didn't have much time to participate back when I was active, but I'll try to post every now and then now that I have the means to. I think last time I posted was back in 8chan, yikes. >>70007 So, whatever happened to your panel? I'm not sure if the video you uploaded to youtube is the one you will use or if you already used it, but I'm still interested in this. Great job on the video, by the way.
>>70479 Hi! Yeah, I think I remember you as your husbando’s face does look familiar. It’s good to see you back. Feel free to join us on Discord too (see the pinned thread). >So, whatever happened to your panel? I'm not sure if the video you uploaded to youtube is the one you will use or if you already used it, but I'm still interested in this. Great job on the video, by the way. Wow, so you remembered this whole panel saga. I finally decided to make a Youtube video instead as I could reach more people this way. I might present it as a panel too one day, that is, if that damn Covid can finally stop (last year, the anime convention was only held online, and it will be the same this year too… I rather wait and present it in person). I’m happy you liked my video!
>>70486 >husbando Funny, I haven't seen someone make this mistake in a long time. I guess she does look very masculine in that picture and I didn't include her name in my post or filename. I'll make sure to leave a post in the discord thread, thanks for the invite. >Wow, so you remembered this whole panel saga. I couldn't post back then, but I kept lurking every now and again and it caught my interest when I first read it. I really only remembered it after watching your video. Wish you luck in your next attempt with the panel.
>>70487 Oh I'm sorry! All memes and SJW considerations aside, I can tell you that I’m sorry that I assumed her gender haha. It's true that she looks rather masculine in the picture of your previous post with her short hair and those clothes (not to mention that gender distinction is often not as obvious in facial features of anime-style characters as compared to 3D people). But regardless, your waifu is beautiful. Maybe I just confused her with someone else? It’s all blurry in my mind but I have this feeling that I’ve seen your waifu’s face before. And regarding the panel, I’ll sure let you (and this whole community) know about it if it’s ever going to happen.
