tiki?
Board owner what do you think of this? I can't quite get the New Reply button to look how I want… but it's neat yes?

That's a beautiful post field and I wish to steal it for my own board. I'd fix the new topic button though.

I prefer keeping things the way they currently are, Mahu :^)
But I appreciate your enthusiasm

Tiki is a mythological figure recurring in several Polynesian cultures :^)
According to the Maori he was the first man, but he has also been described as the first man who died a natural death back when humans were still immortal :^)

In the 50s, Polynesian art and culture gained a lot of popularity in the USA, and a lot of Polynesia-inspired kitsch was made.
This was called "Tiki culture", named after the legendary figure Tiki. :^)

The figures in your picture are technically not Tikis. They are Moai statues from Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
The Rapa Nui built them to honor their ancestors, and went through tremendous lengths to construct and erect these statues.
At some point, every tree in Rapa Nui was cut down, merely to transport and erect these giant Moai statues.
Birds would stop going to the island because of that, and the Rapa Nui did not have any wood to make canoes and go fishing.
So the people had no meat. A great famine took place, everyone went mad, civilization collapsed.
A big apocalyptic chaos of desperation, fury and confusion took place. They destroyed several of the statues, and started killing and eating each other. :^)

It was like Make-Make, the god of the Birdman Cult, had abandoned His followers. :'^(
