Well there a number of factors to consider here. 1.) It’s a simple matter of statistics. We are already a very niche fetish with a limited population in the community. So the ratio of artistic talent found in said group would be far less than a vastly larger community into vanilla smut. The smaller the group, the less standout talent you’ll find. I mean there are a ton of amazing artists amongst our brothers in the foot fetish and bondage communities being among the most common fetishes in the world and a few have been swayed to indulge us so that’s a plus. Even the furry community hosts a shit ton more talented people than we could ever hope for which is nothing short of frustrating. 2.) As others have pointed out a bit more harshly, yes the weirder the fetish, often times the weirder the person. Obscure fetishes like ours often include many people who have some form of emotional or psychological instability, low self esteem, the “I’m a total perv” complex and so on. This in turn also impacts their development and dedication to honing their craft and becoming really skilled at art. You’d be hard pressed to find a totally well adjusted and “normal” person in our ranks who also happens to be a really talented artist that sticks around long enough to really make an impact. 3.) Also really talented artists who happen to be hornballs are more willing to flex their skills if they’re into something more mainstream like general porn. The weirder the kink, the more reluctant many may be to apply themselves especially if they eventually plan to make a career in the real world. It’s a lot easier to rationalize/explain away drawing sex than like vore, inflation, diaper play, etc. 4.) And yes, our community can also be pretty toxic at times due in no small part to the fact that really good content is hard to find so a lot of people tend to nit pick over the art we do get and a reactionary attitude when artists become frustrated by it, inevitably walking away from the whole scene.
