Anime Movies Thread Anonymous 04/15/2022 (Fri) 20:01:03 Id: 000000 No. 1167
Let's start with the one anime movie that changed it all "AKIRA" and was released so long ago AKIRA was classed as animated MANGA before the word Anime surfaced, way back in 1988. The animation was before it's time. And that bike! Fuck yeah! The lighting FX. The people. The lighting people FX! I instantly forgot about Star Wars the first time I watched AKIRA, it was that good. When Tetsuo turns into an mega-amoeba I felt sorry for him, but Tetsuo played his role as the end boss villain well. Kaneda and that fucking bike though made this animated movie for me. That bike slide! The twist involving Tetsuo at the films end was kind of satisfying for me as well. Rating: 10 out of 10. Five Stars. Which is rare for me. AKIRA was recently re-released as a 4K Blu-ray disc and might be getting a live action film adaption in the future. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_(1988_film)
(346.03 KB 1077x768 Ghost in the Shell.jpg)

Next up is Ghost in the Shell released in 1995, which by some accounts was the big anime movie after Akira. Like Akira, Ghost in the Shell was tech heavy, but instead of using psychics which Akira relied heavily on as background plot devices, Ghost in the Shell delved even further into cyberpunk with the concepts of AI, sentient machines, networks, cyberbrains and merging tech with bodies i.e. cyborgs. Section 9 and Section 6 created a shockwave of pro-tech in a world of real life casual tech users and Ghost in the Shell set a benchmark for future anime and live action movies to follow, most notably The Matrix. Rating: 9/10 but a full 5 stars. Trend setter. The 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime movie had a number of reduxes, a live action adaption and an anime television series, as well as video games, and is thus considered an anime movie classic.
>>1170 Yeah these are good movies anon. So uh. You gonna stream em? Or just casually mention them? Cause if you wanna do a classic anime stream I'd watch.
>>1171 There will be streaming but I'm casually mentioning anime movies before then. The streams might not be what's mentioned before, they will serve as basic training anime movie foundation though. Yes it will probably be Crunchyroll.
>>1172 >it will probably be crunchyroll The paid service? Uh. I mean. What? Just use the 8moe streaming service or cytube like everyone else. I mean linking to crunchyroll? Might as well tell people to go pay for Netflix. Kinda the complete opposite of how things are usually done here.
>>1173 Crunchyroll is totally free and has anime movies, with a few ads here and there, unlike Netflix and the late Funimation. I'm not above using the services you mentioned though, expect an eclectic mix of streaming links some legit and otherwise.
>>1174 But as Crunchyroll gets more and more paywall the other streaming options will become the main streaming links, for now the older anime movies I have in mind are still free at Crunchyroll. I'm monitoring the Crunchyroll situation like a hawk circling a tasty lamb. In the meantime I will write up a few more casually mentioned anime movies to get into the streaming mood. Some may involve tentacle rapey time. I have to be in the right lewd frame of mind for that, but that's a tentacle bridge to cross later on. Until then.
I'm trying to remember this one OVA with a ninja/ronin protagonist and he fights a bunch of kunoichi and this big hulking dude. I was thinking it was Ninja Scroll but it doesn't seem so.

For now I will use these streaming links (not Crunchyroll). They have NSFW ads but stream the entire anime movies. Akira (dub): https://gogoanime.gg/akira-dub-episode-1 Akira (sub): https://gogoanime.gg/akira-episode-1

(954.33 KB 450x333 legend of the overfiend.gif)

Urotsukidoji 1; Legend of the Overfiend "Legend has it that the human race is not the only dominant civilization living on Earth. Two other races exist in this world: the Makai (a demon race) and the Juujinkai (a half-man, half-beast race). Once every 3,000 years, a supreme being known as the “Choujin” (Overfiend) will emerge and bring balance to all three realms on Earth. In present-day Japan, after 300 years of endless searching, a Jujinkai named Amano Jyaku has discovered the presence of the Choujin inside high school slacker Tatsuo Nagumo. But now, Amanoùalong with his sister Megumi and their sidekick Kurokoùmust protect Nagumo and his new girlfriend Akemi Ito from the Makai, who believe that Nagumo is not the Choujin, but an evil entity bent on destroying all living beings on Earth." "Lots of tentacles and gore" Lewd is allowed without classifying an anime movie like this as hentai, as long as the lewdness helps the story continue without being lewd for simply lewd's sake and legend of the Overfiend was the definitive lewd story just enough to be classed as an anime and not an hentai. Despite the heavy censorship of this animated Manga in various nations. It also has a cult following strong enough to be listed here in this Anime's game-changing all-time big movers and shakers in the film industry thread. Rating: 4 stars. >>1176 Could have been 'Jubei vs The 8 Devils of Kimon', there's a big hulking bad dude in that and some kunoichi-types.
(460.24 KB 1939x1861 vampire hunter D bloodlust.jpg)

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is arguably better than the original Vampire Hunter D movie with its dark fantasy & beautiful animations and well established MC. Released in 2000 at the advent of a nu-wave of anime interest by the general public in the west. D is a half-vampire Dunpeal and a descendant of Dracula hisself, hence the D name. In the Bloodust anime film, D is hired to find a missing Charlotte, kidapped by a vampire Baron, by her father for a princely sum, which attracts others who take up the hunt. Charlotte is suspected of being a vampire hostage, and once the hunting begins, all hell breaks loose as there's a twist, Charlotte was a willing abductee in love with the vampire Baron. The original D film was good but Bloodlust raised the bar in anime horror and dark fantasy enough to get mentioned here as we progress into the more sophisticated 2000's and leaving the grungy 90's and Miami vice 80's anime to rest in Vampire Hunter D peace. Rating: 8 out 10, 4 stars. But 5 stars if you are a vampire movie fan. Stream (NSFW ads): https://gogoanime.gg/vampire-hunter-d-bloodlust-episode-1
>>1187 >Dunpeal I still cannot get over this bastardization of "Dhampir". It's the "L" instead of "R" that pisses me off the most. If they at least wrote and pronounced it as "Dunpear" it would have been tolerable. Those two letters don't even sound anything alike, how do the nips keep mixing them up? Thankfully the novels have it correct.
>>1188 The connection to Dracula implication raised a few eyebrows as well. I think most anime convention D fans just cough Dunpeal instead of say it to avoid embarrassment when they meet.
>>1190 In the novels Dracula is not even mentioned by name. There are a few allusions to the name in the first novel, but it's not clear whether that's the same Dracula as in Bram Stoker's novel, or if the story takes place in a world where Bram Stoker's Dracula was never written and the name has no preconceived notion. And D being Dracula's descendant (or even his son) is only alluded to, but never actually confirmed. But it's pretty clear to the point where at this point confirming it is just a formality. BTW, for whatever reason the movie is easily available on YouTube. It's literally the first search result. https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=GEVHYLNf1mo
>>1187 >>1188 How much do you guys know about this? https://nitter.unixfox.eu/GraphicAudio/status/1454485781188337664 Would you guys mind weighing in?
>>1188 Isn't that a translation error? To Japanese people, those two words sound exactly the same. It's up to the translators to understand what foreign word they were attempting to pronounce. And if they fuck up, shouldn't fansubs fix that situation? Hell, even when fansubs go with dumb translations, I just fix them in my head. I know Goku's friend is supposed to be Bloomer, not Bulma, and whenever I read the latter, I just switch it in my head. She's related to Trunks, and if they translated his name as Torankusu, that would also be stupid. >>1191 But Dracula was a real guy. People say that Stoker doesn't explicitly say his Count Dracula was Vlad Tepes, but he implies it pretty damn hard. It's clearly supposed to be him. But even if the novel wasn't canon, it's still a real guy. This is like having a character called Hitler, but we're just supposed to pretend he has nothing to do with the real one.
>>1182 No I don't think that's it. That movie does look interesting though. I remember another thing the movie I watched ended with the protagonist on a small boat, I think with a woman aboard too.
>>1191 YouTube was considered but the movie could vanish instantly there at some point while the streaming sites are a more permanent option (provided the streaming sites don't get nuked). The streaming sites NSFW ads are unfortunate but they keep the streaming sites around, just look away until the movie starts. Dracula is referred to in the D movies as "Sacred Ancestor" or "great one" or "Vampire King" which D fan's instinctively know is Dracula without the name being said aloud. Probably to get around that usual joykiller, copyright. But sometimes you have to bend things for academic reasons. Like this thread does. For Art! >>1192 Not much is known other than Vampire Hunter D was around in the 80's in novel format, and it's good to see interest in the franchise still being generated in the 2020's, either in one format or another. >>1193 I like to think Dunpeal is the anime's own version of a half-vampire bypassing the west's lore completely with the far east creating their own brand of half-vampire with its own unique word i.e. Dunpeal, but that's just my take. Maybe there was some kind of background issue with Dhampir and Dunpeal got around that. It's all part of the mystique of the D anime movies.
(94.90 KB 350x500 Bepop.jpg)

Cowboy Bepop the Movie (subtitled Knockin` on Heaven`s Door) was released in 2001 and was based on the previous game-changing anime series. I won't go too much into it after the recent live action series implosion, and out of respect for the dead. But it's worth a watch, if there's any interest left in this franchise after what happened recently live-action wise. Rating: 8 out of 10. Solid 4 stars. https://gogoanime.gg/cowboy-bebop-knockin-on-heavens-door-episode-1
(69.63 KB 338x449 Gundam Wing Endless Waltz.jpg)

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz is one of the best Gundam films, in my opinion. Mobile Suit Gundam started a while back, with new and modern Gundam animes released regularly, so the Gundam manga's and animes are quite popular. But Wing Endless Waltz stuck out a lot to get significantly noticed. War, peace, hope, renewal, more war, this Gundam film has it all. Rating: 9 out of 10, but 5 stars. https://gogoanime.gg/mobile-suit-gundam-wing-endless-waltz-1998-episode-1
(107.01 KB 366x500 fate stay night ubw.jpg)

Fate/Stay Night and its subsequent Fate spinoff's have defined the anime year 2000's released onwards, upto the present day so will represent my contribution to this threads modern anime film examples. The Holy Grail Wars are the foundation for the Fate series. Fate/Stay Night revolved around the 5th Holy Grail War, where Mages become masters of summoned heroic spirit servants (like Saber and Archer) who have vast magical abilities fight in a Battle Royale to the death until, theoretically, only one master remains who will then be granted a Wish come true by the Holy Grail. Rin, Shirou, Saber, Lancer, Caster, Archer etc. were the main agents in the different Fate/ Stay Night routes, with the original Fate route (Saber's route), followed by the Unlimited Blade Works route (Rin's route) and finally the Heaven's Feel route (Sakura's route), with some other spinoff's creating general Fate routes of their own (El-Melloi II and the Fate/Grand Order's singularities for example). Fate/Zero also served as a prequel series to Fate/Stay night and covered the 4th Holy Grail War. Most, if not all, of the Fate series and movies are enjoyable and entertaining but sometimes fans need to keep up to pace so they don't get confused by the different and various Fate routes that have been released so far. Worth the effort though. Rating: 10 out of 10, 5 stars. "Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous?... Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!" - Doflamingo Donquixote, 'One Piece'. One Piece is omnipotent and I suspect has gained sentience from the Gomu Gomu devil fruit, and is hugely successful around the world. The Straw Hat pirate crew have had many adventures as a series and the films released with Luffy and crew in them are also pure entertainment. Me hearties. What more can be said.. Gomu Gomu I suppose. Rating: It's just too good out of ten, 5 pirate flags. Yo ho ho. Stream (some NSFW ads): https://gogoanime.gg/one-piece-film-gold-episode-1
(500.54 KB 930x1024 fairy tail dragon cry 2016.jpg)

Way back in very distant mid-2015 I was looking for an alternative to RWBY as I started losing interest in that show, and I discovered Fairy Tail. Which filled a big gap once RWBY was out of my life. Fairy Tail hit my animation interests straight to the heart, and RWBY became a distant memory almost instantly. Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Wendy, Gray, Erza, etc and their adventures on the world of Earth Land in the country of Fiore was enchanting and I watched every series. The film Dragon Cry showed how the anime series had grown into something worthy of a feature length movie, and Fairy Tail is still enthralling to watch even now after the post-RWBY days. RWBY itself is getting an anime it is said. And good luck to the RWBY anime should it launch later on. But anyway.. Dragon Cry. I'm all fired up! Rating: Can't really rate because of bias to Fairy Tail as a RWBY alternative but.. 5 Stars (thanks to getting over RWBY) Stream (NSFW ads): https://gogoanime.gg/fairy-tail-movie-2-dragon-cry-episode-1
>>1196 I was not aware of this one. I like a lot the series so gonna give it a try.
>>1217 Great anime, shame the live action show flushed the Bepop reputation down the metaphorical toilet.

Over the years, I've checked out a number of the Lupin III movies. I most recently watched The Mystery of Mamo also known as Lupin III: Lupin vs. the Clone. That one makes absolutely no attempt to explain random shit (spoiler: Like why Mamo is a giant brain?) so I can see why it didn't really do too well with audiences. For whatever reason, though, I always find myself checking out a movie every year or so. Anyone have any favorites?
