what you should probably try to do is get in the habit of just making small purchases or sales whenever you think it might be a good idea to do so. you never KNOW that NOW is the PERFECT time to buy/sell, but you can look at a number of variables and come to the conclusion that you believe it is more likely than not to be a good idea to make x decision. when you make this assessment, like if there was a sizable dip on an asset for which you anticipate the price going up in the near future, just buy some of it. you don't have to go all in, and it'd probably be a bad idea to do so
so say you want BTC, and you notice the price just dipped -6% overnight. it could signal the start of a prolonged downtrend, or it could just bounce right back up, you don't know. you're bullish on BTC, you want some, so you just buy some, maybe 20-60% of the total amount you're looking to buy depending on your confidence level. if it dips down some more, sure the amount you bought will go down in value, but then you'll have the opportunity to use your "dry powder" (FIAT you're looking to invest) to buy more BTC at a lower price, lowering your average buy price. conversely, the price could go up instead, and you may decide that you're going to reluctantly buy at a higher price because you're that bullish on the asset. this same principle applies for selling, too, where you might sell 20% of your asset on a pump because you think it might be overvalued in the short term and due for a correction, then when it dips back down you use that money you got to buy more at a lower price. you're basically trying to cover all of the possibilities and make small, favorable decisions that will put you in a strong and versatile position that you think is the most likely to make you the most money possible
also, glad to see that you've went the hardware wallet route, that means you're doing some homework. if you plan on using an exchange, remember that you need to deposit for x days before they will let you withdraw your crypto (i.e. they let you trade on their platform using your balance immediately, but they need to receive your money before they'll send you your coins)
