Scooby Doo Anonymous 06/22/2021 (Tue) 23:02:14 No. 14279
They just announced a scooby doo and courage the cowardly dog crossover. Also Scooby doo general thread I guess since the other thread talking about scooby doo is a general pain thread. https://web.archive.org/web/20210622164554/https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/scooby-doo-courage-the-cowardly-dog-trailer

>>14279 I'll be honest, it looks fun.
>>14290 Yeah I'm game. Only thing I'm worried about is them excluding characters like the Indian doctor because of the times.
>>14304 There is nothing to worry about.
>>14279 Did they get the creator of Courage?
>>14308 The creator of Courage explicitly stated he's not involved in this movie.
>>14309 Well, at least it doesn't look bad as the PPG reboot.
>>14279 It looks okayish, which if they maintain characters (courage is easy to fuck up as just a screaming dog, solves things due to deus ex machina) and keep it simple fun, it would be watchable. Animation quality looks okay, fitting both scooby and courage, but CGI is very noticeable. Of course, only time will tell.
meh
Feels weird not seeing any slapstick violence with Courage. I wonder how are they going to treat Eustace?

>>14279 I don't like it. Sooby-Doo's humor style is too tame for Courage's more surreal and violent slapstick. Every time Courage appeared in the trailer he felt completely out of place, like if he was added digitally to an existing Scooby-Doo movie. Take the Courage's expressions for example, what normally would be comically exaggerated it now looks "neutered" in order to fit with Scooby-Doo's style. The animation style is blocking courage and the rest to be as expressive as they always where, with the unsettling and sometimes grotesque faces that made the cartoon special. In my opinion things should be done on the inverse, with Scooby and the gang being adapted to Courage's more "perturbing" style but while keeping their original less exaggerated expressions. Just imagine if instead of being round shaped the evil bugs looked like Schwick the cockroach, it would be dozens of times scarier and disgusting.
>>14590 >In my opinion things should be done on the inverse, with Scooby and the gang being adapted to Courage's more "perturbing" style but while keeping their original less exaggerated expressions Funny enough, there were a set of old Scooby/Courage commercials during a CN marathon that did something similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shXTvdLEkpU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK4S83zM6gY
>>14590 Money grubbing is all. They know the kids that actually watched the show are entering their 30s and 40s. So they're trying to make bank on the ol' modern character meets classic variant schtick. Because, they've obviously run out of things to do with Scooby and The Gang. So why not start pairing him with random horror-themed modern cartoon characters? Billy, Mandy, and Grim will be next.
While we're talking about Scooby Doo, I gotta ask; is Be Cool any good? A couple guys have sworn up and down it has "the best/most clever writing of any Scooby show", but I haven't really been impressed by any of the clips I've seen so far and I'm actively repulsed by its god-awful Reddit-and-Memey-meets-Family-Guy artstyle.
>>14766 Its god awful. Hannah-barbara or bust.
>>14766 With that show, they were trying to poorly modernize the original into a slapstick thing which didn't really suit it.

>>14766 There's worse, but that's not saying much.
The designs and animation both look very stilted compared to how wild Courage uaually was. The fact John Dilworth isn't involed definitely explains why. It's also really weird seeing the wider world in the context of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It always felt more like a newspaper comic or a caricature instead of an actual, fully developed universe. Basically what this anon said >>14590. Remember Cyber Chase? They could have done the same sort of thing with this, maybe the gang gets in an accident in the desert and wakes up in Nowhere or some voodoo magic happens and they're pulled into Courage like an in-universe cartoon. Then they could have been drawn in a unique style that'd fit the darker tone. But that'd take money and effort
