On Halloween, Aaron said he would post hints in November about the December "gift". The gift turned out to be the movie poster. So what were the hints?

I'm still on the side you don't have to use that movie as some Commandment or something written in stone for character design for the real world, unless you treat Sonic's cast as toon world characters. It's so hard being a Sonic fan. I don't understand why this keeps happening. Is Sonic the most mishandled IP in history?
I've been holding onto the idea that the movie poster was just a joke or part of a genius marketing campaign. They release a fake design. People get outraged. It goes viral. People who've never had any interest in Sonic talk about it. People who like Sonic but don't keep up with Sonic news are talking about it. EVERYONE knows about the movie now. And then in a few days Aaron reveals that he was fooling us the entire time. But then >>10186 exists and now reality is finally sinking in

Usually there's still a decent chunk that goes against the grain, but I actually haven't seen much people defending it. At best there's a couple holding out for a full reveal, but it's kinda crazy how many dislike it. What's sad is nothing will be done to fix it. No doubt they're too deep at this point to change it.
I really, really want to know who thought the movie design was a good idea, and why. I want to know who could have possibly looked at that thing and said "yeah, people will love this."

The only hope it gives me is that the negative reaction is so big it makes them consider cancelling it or not marketing it too much or releasing it on DVDs or some shit where they could just hide in under the carpet and never talk about it again. At least for me it does, compared to how it was in Unleashed. Do note that I am using the Sonic wiki to compare these, so if they make a mistake, it will cause me to as well. There's been a couple spelling mistakes which tripped me up a bit.

He also said it's coming soon. So we have that image of Sonic in Sonic Mania losing all of his rings. We see the "a tiny gift approaches" text and some other random hidden objects. My thoughts: tiny gift -> tiny chao garden horn = chao can play with trumpets in the sonic advance 1 tiny chao garden, they also play trumpets in SA2's chao gardens if they know how keys -> you need chao keys to go to chao world in SA2 flower = I'm not sure about this one hint orb = metaphor for the image being a hint, or maybe Tikal is the hint orb in SA1 and she's related to chao I counted the rings and I got 83. SA2 - 3 Chao garden with a maximum of 8 chao each. I'm not sure where the horn is from. I've never seen it before. I'm not even sure it's from the games. It could just be a royalty free commercial use stock image or something but leads me to believe he chose that specifically rather just picking a random circular gold colored object from the games. Not to mention if he specifically wanted a horn, he could have used the trumpet sprite from Sonic Advance or the trumpet model from SA2 but that would have been too obvious. I'm probably overthinking this. Continuing on… Aaron said one or two hints would be posted in November. I've posted all of the Novemeber tweets before and nothing in particular sticks out except that there were barely any Mania memes and SA2 got mentioned much much more often than usual. Thanksgiving had a picture of Sonic with Dark/Hero Chao which is notable because these were barely mentioned for years outside of Japan. Neutral Chao get mentioned but rarely the other two. There was a picture with the dragon tiny animal you can give your Chao in SA2 There was another meme tweet about Sonic games teaching us love, patience, and pain. SA2 was the first image posted so it's the one about love. Taking care of helpless little creatures like pets is a way to teach someone about love. Aaron's wording in one tweet made it sounds like hints were posted prior to the Halloween Pumpkin Hill video A week before Halloween he posted a picture of Dark/Hero/Neutral chao as pumpkins. Also posted a bingo card with timestamps that led to the "tiny gift" thing in the Pumpkin Hill video which started all of this. September and prior is almost entirely all Mania related memes with the occasional post making fun of something from SA1/SA2, shilling ecelebs, the Sonic ice cream bar, Arby's, Spyro, etc. and I haven't gone through those yet because I don't think I'm going to find anything. Another thing of note is that they started making Chao merchandise again this year. We got a neutral chao plush and a dark chao plush. The dark chao is especially notable because dark chao haven't received merchandise in something like 17 years. It was one single plush and it might have even been a prototype and not officially released. We also got neutral chao figures. Remember, it's been a long time since Chao were relevant in this series. This can't possibly be a coincidence can it? I know we have Chao in TSR but we also have Silver, Blaze, and Big and out of those only Silver is getting merchandise this year. Isn't it strange for the irrelevant virtual pets to get toys and plushies but not the two giant talking animal characters? guys if you cannot tell I think the gift is a chao garden app. I know Aaron said it's not game related but so much points to it. I don't think it even mentioned Wisps, Zavok, Classic Sonic from Generations, etc. When you think about SA1/SA2 and things that are exclusive to those games only, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the Chao garden. Maybe they wanted to keep hinting at these two games without making it too obvious. I still think a Chao Garden app is more likely though, especially after the "tiny gift approaches" image. Plus, after the success of Mania Adventures, I doubt they will want to use 'serious' games like SA/SA2 as the setting since they don't lend themselves silliness/slapstick like MA or sitcom dynamics like the Boom cartoon

I don't understand why they wanted to make him into a chipmunk. The fixes this person made are so simple but it makes such a huge difference. It's legitimately good. The old design doesn't even have the back quills. It's literally a chipmunk. I know this probably isn't the final design but seriously it looks like the movie poster design doesn't have them either

Personally I'd be pretty angry. I didn't like Colors at all. I can't stand the level design and the physics in the 2D sections which are like 70% of the game.

It seems a lot of people love the music, and it's not awful by any means, but outside of one tune I think, I haven't been particularly wowed by it. Do you think the team part of the game will carter to the audience it's made for, kids? That's what Iizuka said was the sole reason it's there for. I've seen people defend that aspect about Heroes, which is 15 years old. Will it be defended a decade later from now for those that played this game at the age of 10? Or do you think kids in the age of online multiple would care moreso for the hardcore local multiplayer of say, CTRR?

Honestly, can I ask, why is this mentality of "Sonic Team only makes Sonic games" when A: That was never the case as early as the 90s, and B: we JUST got a game not fucking made by Sonic Team with the past year and a half? Thanks to a Playstation feature disclosing the amount of people that earned certain trophies, 4/sthg/'s been doing some calculating and has found that Mania has around 525,000 players and Forces has around 600,000 players on PS4.

So the final 600k has to be close to the actual number.
And iirc, reminder than Mania was stated haft a year ago to have already sold ~1.2 million copies, before Plus was annouced, which said sells came from the Switch. And regarding how sells works, it's all about revenue from product cost. Mario Odyessy making Forces' profits would have been a massive flop. For something as small as Mania, it's honestly not bad at all, which is why its sell numbers got revealed so early. This is also calulated by companies within the FIRST year. Any sells afterwards barely count stock wise. It's very likely Forces by this point has reached a million or more. But Mania beat it out faster, and likely, either is still higher or has leveled out with Forces give or take thanks to a 3D game commonly has more demand than a 2D one.

here's something everyone probably knows but I only just realized the other day. If you've ever seen Sonic Adventure marketing materials and the old wallpapers, you might know these lines >I'll never look back, I've got no regrets >'Cause time doesn't wait for me >I choose to go my own way which never seemed to ever show up anywhere else. Well in the official Sonic Adventure character manual there are these images that have the characters with some cheesy quotes. For Tails, Amy, and Knuckles the quotes are taken from their theme music. For Sonic's it's not. This makes me think It Doesn't Matter's lyrics used to be very different. I also remember seeing on the Crush 40 twitter about It Doesn't Matter. I think that was the very first song recorded for Sega specifically as Crush 40. So I guess it went through several iterations of lyrics. neat right. If there's a demo version for this song like there is for Open Your Heart or Sonic Heroes, I want to hear it so badly

What are some things you'd change about Sonic's game style? Do you want a Sonic game to be always be about constant speed? Or do you want momentum back as a form of pacing yourself and using the environment to dictate how you progress through the game? What about art style? What direction was your preferred visually? (I'm not addressing story direction here, just visual tones.) I'd want a game that really allows me to take any path I'm willing to take just to get to the goal instead of just being hallways. It doesn't really matter how fast I do it, as long as it's responsive and flows well with the controls. And as long as the artstyle doesn't feel like a ripoff of too darks/comedy silliness that doesn't contrast to Sonic's design, I'd be fine with anything. I think a war tone could have worked but not when you make the game visually look like Colors/Lost World/Heroes/etc.

The over use of automation, 2D sections and very tight and linear level design doesn't exactly open up Sonic for the sake of his gameplay direction, which personally isn't the fault of say, SA1/2 at the time of learning the ropes, but I honestly wished Heroes forward really figured this out instead of diving deeper into the handicaps to get by with the jump into "3D" Sonic, only to end up where we are today, not much better than where we started. I for one think a mythos to Sonic's style should keep in mind how going fast opens up parts of levels that normally can't be accessed as easily (but still doable otherwise) without going fast. I still think using speed to climb vertically would be better for gameplay over just going vast distances, would usually has been the problem with Boosting because it makes for very expensive level designing and usually, very short levels.

Stealth really did like the Adventure titles, and hopefully, they know the good and bad parts about them to polish out and make a better attempt at them in the near future. No it was a response to someone at this year's SXSW panel asking if they will add a team to do Adventure style games like Whitehead/Stealth/Pagoda did Sonic Mania. Perhaps it's just skepticism, but I really don't think much is gonna change with a production move to America unless everyone at the head is replaced and I haven't gotten any impression that they are.

I'm not even stating they are going a "new deticated team" to do Adventure stuff, I'm stating they are just going to collab within staff to make Classic, Adventure esque games which is likely going to mix in the Boost gameplay with it. They aren't going to make 2 types of 3D games and 1 2D game, that's dumb. 2D is far too serperate to keep mixing in with the 3D game styles, as everyone bitched about at SEGA to stop doing. So we are getting pure 2D content SEPERATE from 3D Sonic all together. There's no point even dissolving all of Sonic Team if they were going to do what they did in the pass. They are doing something drastict, completely left field after many years sticking to the same shit for 10 years. I'm not even saying any of this will fix Sonic or make good games at all, just stating this movement would make zero sense if all this was going to do is continue making Sonic Forces 2s and Runner like sequels instead of moving towards better directions.
So anything I should add for the next OP?
