>Reimagining Anonymous 07/09/2020 (Thu) 03:15:07 No. 21984
Alright, I went through to trouble to.put up some notes I had for a "reimagining" for Sonic Lore. The trick is that it goes with Genesis Era lore with implications and similar (see the OVA) first then ignores or remakes the rest. >The talking animals are ultimately more or less a cross between DnD’s elf varieties and the indigenous inhabitants of places like Hawaii or pre-Roman France. They’re nature’s beings who largely live in forested land, caves, islands etc. They do use modern tech when they need to or it interests them, have modern enough homes, but they don’t have any notable “civilization” (as in huge cities like Starlight Zone, armies like the Resistance in Forces) whatsoever. That’s really a humie thing. That said, enough of them do come over to visit the humies (hence Ricki and Co. being in that Sonic the Cop game) or have been integrated into human controlled land. >Characters like Vector the Croc or Amy Rose, Rouge the Bat or even Ms. Whisper were raised in human-ran areas. >Angel Island was the remnants of an overall human-ruled empire that employed Echidnas as a warrior class. The Echidna warriors under Pachacamac pulled a Mamluke and hijacked the empire, then they tried to seize the Chaos Emeralds leading the empire falling to trash (guess who did it). >Dr. Eggman wants to mechanize the whole world since he thinks it’d make the whole world into one giant playground where everyone has fun. Especially including him. He doesn’t really realize the harm in what he’s doing. He sincerely believes what he’s doing helps the world. >Sonic is a friendly lone drifter all the way from his home in Christmas Island. He’s a hero to the world. Perhaps he’s a runaway. Perhaps he fled to protect his home. >Tails is a little boy who suffered bullying for his tails. He got into tinkering from getting his hands on a ditched British sports car. > Little Planet is a thing, a human-ruled lost civilization (see statue). >Blaze is a princess from a world that’s the other-way around from the “main” world (the animals hold all the major civilization while humans live in islands and stuff). Captain Whisker is there but Nega isn’t since Nega is bleh. >Eggman invades Christmas Island since he noticed its magicalness. He catches wind of Sonic’s speed and plans to use him. >No Black Arms and much of 06’s plot never ever happens. Rough draft. I can post more if wanted.
Sounds interesting. So the animals and the humans coexist, but what about the flickies and the little critters? Are they as smart as your regular talking animal? By the way, are you planning on doing something with this?
(96.61 KB 400x512 CollectionItem_129.png)

>>21989 >the flickies Going by 3D Blast, the Flickies are capable of speech. So I just put them as something like Sonic fairies. >little critters I strongly believe that there really wasn't supposed to be a hard distinction between "little critters" (aka the animals you break out of Eggman's capsules and his robots) and the protagonist animals back in the Genesis Era. After all, Tails' OG design gave him similar enough proportions to the rescued animals. >By the way, are you planning on doing something with this? Beyond more notes or a quick fic, not really.
>>21991 So I assume the badniks would have to be way bigger than your regular motobug if there's a mobian inside each and every one.
>>21991 Eh, I guess? I mean, to my knowledge the badnik sprites didn't tower over Tails. And keep in mind, the Genesis and similar works did try to give the animals more diversity in shape.
Can we make this a general "what I'd do if I could rework Sonic" thread?
>>22016 I'm the OP. And I say sure. Have anything?
>>22025 >Sonic has a beginning, middle, and end to the story, with the characters aging and developing over time. >Eggman, like OP's concept, doesn't think he's doing anything wrong and merely wants the world to appreciate his genius. No more "Evil Ham" bullshit. He once again is a threat to the environment, wanting a world plastered with his face, his brand, and his machinery, in the most inefficient, inhumane, costly, and destructive way possible. He no longer harbors any murderous feelings for humanity, simply nature and animals, and only if they're in his way. In this way, he acts as a subtle satire on modern industry. His dream utopia may very well be beneficial to mankind, but at the cost of the planet. >The Chaotix are cut from the universe, as there's no room to fit them in without them being entirely forced. However, Fang and Honey play roles in their stead. >Sonic CD is the first story, replacing Sonic 1. It plays out pretty much as-is, but here's the twist: Tails and Amy are merged into one character (pic related, but a full fox rather than a hedgefox hybrid). A wrench wench with two tails, who wields a giant wrench instead of a hammer, and who can develop a (subtle) relationship with Sonic over time. She mostly retains Tails's backstory. >Sonic 2 is completely changed to reflect the original time travel concept, following up on the themes in CD. Foreshadowing is made towards the original Echidna civilization, as Sonic travels back to that time period. >Sonic 3&K happens next, virtually unchanged from the original plot. Knuckles is mostly the same, but going back to the non-flanderized version (pic related). >SA1, ditto, though some of the story is altered to account for the aforementioned character merging. In addition, Tikal is now a villain. The events of her father, combined with being sealed away for centuries, caused her to hate civilization and want the world to be cleansed with Chaos's power, and it's revealed she was the one who freed her and Chaos from the ME. She acts as a secondary antagonist intended for Knuckles. >SA2 has an overhaul to Shadow and his backstory. While Maria existed, the memory of her death by GUN's hand is in-fact a fabrication created by Gerald to give Shadow a motivation for revenge. Shadow's species is also a lie: while he initially believes he is a Hedgehog, it's revealed that he is a Tenrec later on, as in the original concept. This causes him to have a crisis, as he realizes him being a fake hedgehog is built into the core of his very being. Some of the concepts from ShTH are implemented into the story, such as the GUN Commander, and the flashback aboard the ARK being playable. >Sonic 06 falls last in the timeline. The plot is rewritten almost entirely. Blaze is now merged with certain aspects of Cream, now being a little girl, and replaces Elise as the one being of royalty who harbors Iblis. The Sol Dimension and its emeralds are dropped. The characters are now well-into adulthood. Silver the Hedgehog is now Venice the Mink. I could elaborate on how I'd like Sonic 06's reimagining to play out, but that'd need a separate post as a loooooot of stuff needs to be covered. Yes, I do have autism
>>22031 >time Sure. >Tails is a girl Hmmmm. >Echidnas are there simce Sonic 2 That's new. >Tikal is now an villain How is she dealt with? I assume Eggman doesn't notice her actions? >Adventure 2 Plot Does Shadow die. >rest Anything else to share?
>>22036 >How is she dealt with? I assume Eggman doesn't notice her actions? ….Y'know, when I wrote that, I actually goofed. I had considered that there would be a legend about the ME shattering after so many centuries, and Eggman having calculated the exact day and time it would happen. But I realized just now it wouldn't make sense for Eggman to know about this legend, but not Knuckles. So I'm gonna scrap that bit. Anyway, Eggman breaks the ME and frees Chaos, but Tikal works behind the scenes, waiting on Eggman to gather the Emeralds so she and Chaos can accomplish their goal. Knuckles would be the only one who witnesses the flashbacks and actually knows about her, and she would meet him alone aboard the collapsing Egg Carrier, attempting to get him to join her. When he refuses, they fight, and he wins. She would control negative Chaos energy, not unlike Dr. Finitevus in the comics. She is fought again during the final battle, alongside Chaos, and eventually learns the error of her ways. >Does Shadow die. Yes. The Shadow we see in Sonic 06 (rebranded as SA3) would be a clone (not an android) with fake memories, taking cues from both Heroes and ShTH. His story would involve him coming to terms that while his body may be a copy, his heart and his soul are still Shadow. >Anything else to share? Like I said, I have a ton of ideas for SA3's plot. But I'm hijacking the thread enough as-is.
>>22037 Just post them. It's not like this thread has to be for just the first post. And I made the thread.
If we're discussing an alternate Adventure 2, one of the more interesting ideas I heard is over from twitter and ResetEra (I know) on Sonic Stadium's board is ultimately merging Gerald and Maria into one character who was Shadow's maker. The idea being that like in current Adventure 2, Prof. Maria would've done something that warranted her execution and twisted Shadow's memories and otherwise been the real villain. I can kinda see the appeal. After all, if Shadow's only source for his justice was a woman who was not what he thought she was, was in many ways the architect of his turmoil, then it might smoother transition Shadow into his 06 era personality where he's just doing his own thing as an agent of justice. Especially considering how Sonic Team seems like it regrets Maria and Gerald among wanting to make Shadow more of a floating and independent character as Sonic's big rival.
(91.24 KB 205x245 1567631303481.png)

>>22041 >ResetEra (I know) on Sonic Stadium's board nigger…
>>22041 To elaborate on >>22031, my idea for SA2 would be that before the raid, Maria would've been cured and sent home, in secret. By SA2's events, she resides in a retirement home, believing Shadow to be dead. The truth of this is revealed to Shadow in the final story, which is what turns him good, not Amy reminding him of her. By the Final Story's events, however, Maria realizes he is alive and that he's trying to save the world. Her voice reaches him (in a spiritual sense) which is what leads him to ditch his inhibitor rings to stop the ARK. After the credits, his inhibitor rings are delivered to her. The camera pans back and we see a blue streak speed by, revealing who did it. By the end of Clone!Shadow's story in SA3, he would actually go to visit her, sitting with her outside.
>>21984 I'm guessing you aren't keen on that "Two Planets" thing neither. <British Sports Car Oddly specific for a planet where Britain probably didn't exist for Eons (even if it did, they call it "Albion" in most Sonic media). A simple "abandoned car" would've sufficed (unless it's a Commie Lemon or something). It makes sense that '06 never happened, but the Black Arms thing is key in a little bit of Shadow's Character Development (even if the game is some big corporate pander). >>22031 Great ideas (reminds me of "Sonic Legacy" a bit), but who's this Venice OC? Is he supposed to be Silver re-written to be cooler and more competent or something?
>>22048 Silver's name during development of 06 was Venice, and rather than a Hedgehog, he was a Mink. Similar to how Shadow during development was "Terios the Tenrec". This is also why Silver doesn't look anything like a hedgehog as we know them in the Sonic series. >reminds me of "Sonic Legacy" Fuck Sonic Legacy.
>>22048 >I'm guessing you aren't keen on that "Two Planets" thing neither. Of course I aren't keen. It's just a lazy attempt to appease backlash after the Adventure Era games with their environments and focus on humans besides Eggman combined with trying to incorporate elements from Western interpretations. Taking the Genesis Era lore at face value means that they all live on Earth with no apparent furry cities and stuff. >Oddly specific for a planet where Britain probably didn't exist for Eons (even if it did, they call it "Albion" in most Sonic media). Take it up with Sonic 2's manual. >It makes sense that '06 never happened, but the Black Arms thing is key in a little bit of Shadow's Character Development (even if the game is some big corporate pander). It was a giant retcon. Shadow's whole "arc" from Heroes to Ow was just a mistake.
>>22051 Did the person who made it splurge out some "Twitter Nonsense" outside of it, or is this about Tempest being cut out as a key character (because I still hate that)? I'm asking because I think I'm out of the loop.
>>22059 That drama is beyond the scope of this thread.

>>22060 >drama in Twitter >over a basic fanfic mein gott, i hate Twitter
https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(16-bit)/Manuals >His favorite car is Lotus Super Seven. He drives it in Sonic Drift. Same manual also says Christmas is a thing.
>>22064 Now it makes a bit more sense, but that car is already fairly known for having an open patent on its assembly kit (literally anyone can make their own version of it). Besides, it hasn't been known as a Lotus car since they sold all of their rights and blueprints to Caterham in 1972/3. But that's beside the point, a simple "old abandoned rusty buggy" would also make sense.
>>22065 Just update the car to be a modern British sports car. Point is, it and the Christmas mention refer to contemporary culture as early as the 2nd game in the series showing that back then the intent was for the games to be in a fantastic version of Earth.
>>22066 This is why I believe every era of Sonic Games take place in their own self-contained separate dimension (how else would you explain 8 Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Fighters).
>>22067 Sure think that. The games for awhile have suffered from both conflicting visions and unreliable direction. Adventure alone has Naka wanting the franchise to be sleek and cool instead of cute. This is reflected in the NPCs who are human looking like they're from a whole different series than Eggman. And the whole Echidna Mesoamerican Empire doesn't match what we're shown/told of Angel Island.
>>22031 Alright, so: basic plot outline for 06 (SA3), or at least a very rough first draft. Prepare for some high quality autism. Sonic's Story >Opens In Media Res as Sonic carries Blaze's mother, the Queen of Soleanna, amidst Eggman's bombardment of missiles. Eggman's robots are much more realistic, and his behavior catches Sonic off-guard. Towards the end, Sonic is knocked out, and the Queen willingly allows herself to get captured, as Eggman now has her daughter, who is a timid child, and not named "Blaze" but rather something more befitting to a princess. Let's call her "Elise". >Flashback to the start, Sonic and his friends are on vacation in Soleanna, including Knuckles. The ME and the Chaos Emeralds are now under guard at Angel Island. Turns out the royal family is having a parade to celebrate the inauguration of the Queen. Eggman shows up, demanding the Queen come with him, so that he can exploit her pyrokinetic abilities, knowing she contains the "Flames of Disaster". >Sonic questions the premise of rescuing a damsel in distress, but goes along with it anyway since he wants to figure out what Eggman's deal is. >Meanwhile, Venice (Silver) shows up, doing his thing of blaming Sonic for the future being ruined. He has a few cutscenes showing Blaze, as an adult, alongside him, but she never interacts with Sonic or anyone else, only talking to Venice when he's alone (as in the original). Sonic and Tails-Amy (Tammy?) fight him off, however, his psychokinesis is VASTLY improved from before. >Eggman does not send Sonic and friends into the future: instead, he merely traps them in a virtual simulation of the future, implying he knows what happens. Meanwhile, Eggman continues to try and get the Queen to unleash "Iblis", but doesn't get any results. >As Eggman attempts to kill Elise in order for the Queen to unleash her power, Sonic intervenes. The Queen is rescued, but not before Eggman escapes with Elise aboard the Egg Carrier 3. >Sonic catches up to it, and tries to save Elise. He takes down the Egg Carrier and as it starts to explode, "Eggman" is revealed to be an imposter. The Egg Wyvern is the final boss at this point, and carrying Elise, Sonic escapes, before he can get any real answers as to the imposter Eggman's identity. For obvious reasons, there is no romantic angle between Elise and Sonic. Elise is simply a sheltered child who couldn't help but enjoy herself with Sonic on such an adventure, not unlike wheelchair girl in Sonic X. When she asks Sonic how he doesn't ever get scared or angry about anything, he simply encourages her to smile. Shadow's Story >Team Dark are on secret assignment for the president (not GUN) to retrieve an artifact from a Soleanna temple, the Scepter of Darkness, and capture the anomalies known as the Eggman imposter and Venice. Shadow doesn't retain any of the memories he had prior to being awoken in SA2, but does remember the true series of events surrounding the ARK, rather than his memories being altered. Throughout the story, he will learn that he is a clone, and come to terms with it, and wonder if it would be right to face Maria. The Scepter places a curse on whoever touches it, resulting in a dark version of Shadow that only he can see. However, it isn't called Mephiles. Shadow must confront this dark side of himself, and conquer it. >Shadow and Venice meet towards the end, and have a fight. Venice argues that Shadow couldn't possibly understand what he's lost. Shadow relates with Venice, knowing what it's like to have a troubled past and seek revenge, but also knows Sonic couldn't possibly be responsible for his future. Venice encourages him to search Soleanna's archives, as they contain the answers. >The archives end up being the final level, and the Eggman imposter being the final boss. His true name is Doctor Nega, a distant descendant of Eggman who wants to become a god. He can accomplish this with the aforementioned Scepter (which he ends up stealing), combined with Iblis. Team Dark watches a vision of what happened 6 years into Soleanna's past, but this is off-screen until it's shown to the player later. >At the end of Shadow's story, Shadow promises Venice that he'll hear his story and not try to capture him. But first, he "has something to take care of". In the final scene, Shadow musters up the courage to visit Maria in her retirement home. 1/2
>>22031 >>22070 >Shadow doesn't retain any of the memories he had prior to being awoken in SA2 Meant to write he doesn't retain any of the ones AFTER being awoken. As in he doesn't remember any of SA2's events, but has been briefed on them off-screen. Venice's Story: >Starts with Venice sitting down with Shadow to explain his story, leading into a flashback. >A more personal narrative, taking place entirely in the ruined future before Sonic sets foot in Soleanna and Venice decides to go back in time. One hundred years in the future, Mobius is a wasteland with Soleanna being one of the only surviving cities. Iblis monsters roam the streets, with Venice and Blaze being the only ones who can stop them, along with a team of other kinetics. Blaze and Venice are a couple, in this continuity. >The team has a plan to go back in time using Chronos Control, but first, they need a time stone. To do this, they will need to search the old ruins of Metropolis Zone, to find the time stone Eggman used in his time machine all those years ago. They are joined by Doctor Nega, who isn't thought of as evil until he betrays them later on, and a descendant of Knuckles (Edmund, if you wish), who helps Venice with mastering his psychokinesis. Venice is very-much nerfed compared to his boss encounters due to this. >As they get closer and closer to their goal, Blaze becomes more and more uneasy. At the end, once they have the time stone and are resting up before they send Venice back, Blaze reveals to him the truth: that she is actually Elise, that she was the one harboring Iblis, that Iblis has given her eternal youth, and that she is the reason all the monsters keep cropping up. This is when we see the flashback of what happened when Elise was born, showing that Iblis is the source of the royal family's pyrokinesis, but Elise somehow got the power, instead of the Queen, who has been trying to keep it a secret and protecting her with her life until she comes of age. >She's tried to fight back against these monsters, and eventually realized the only way to stop them was for her to die. Her feelings for Venice held her back, but now she's decided enough is enough, and that she needs to atone for everything she's done. She tells Venice that if he defeats her here, he can defeat her in the past as well. She transforms into Iblis, a gigantic lava monster, who looks noticeably catlike in appearance. >Venice gets his ass kicked at first, and calls out to Edmund for help, in his mind. Edmund explains that his power can do more than simply move rocks, and that he can control anything. Realizing his full potential, he gains his abilities from his boss battles, and then this starts up, as he battles against Iblis: https://youtu.be/MO8s8rypQqc >Iblis is defeated and Blaze starts to fade away into flames, having a heart-to-heart with Venice as she goes. She mentions Sonic as one of her last words, leading Venice to believe Sonic is the one who caused her to unleash Iblis. As Blaze disappears, the sun shines down on the world, the Iblis creatures now gone, and allowing his future to rebuild. Filled with newfound determination, Venice uses the time stone and uses it to go back anyway. >Cut to the end, Venice has finished telling Shadow his story. It's revealed that every time Blaze has shown up with him in the present time, it's all been a hallucination, him being in denial that she's completely gone. >After the credits, we see what happened after Venice used Chronos Control: Doctor Nega incapacitated his friends, and went back in time after him, destroying the time stone in the process, so that nobody could follow him. 2/?
>>22031 >>22070 >>22071 Last Story: >Nega kills Sonic, in full view of Elise, now knowing the truth about how she has Iblis inside of her. Iblis is now activated through negative emotions in general, not just rage and sadness. Because Elise is a child, this makes her incredibly dangerous, as Iblis cannot be controlled. >Iblis speaks to her, in her mind, telling her to let it out, as he will make the "bad people" go away. Tammy, Shadow, Venice, and the others show up too late to stop Iblis from manifesting, and attempting to kill Nega. >Nega, in possession of the Scepter, merges with Iblis, becoming Solaris and causing the world to crumble. It's now believed to be too late to stop the future from being ruined. >Tammy carries Sonic's lifeless body as the gang attempt to flee the area on foot. They eventually wind up on the floating rock seen in the Last Story of 06, as Mobius starts to break apart. The group mourns over Sonic, and the coming end of the world. Venice then realizes that Sonic is "still here". >Meanwhile, Sonic has ended up in purgatory, which is basically Green Hill, but slightly foggy and full of wandering souls. A Chao comes to him and, speaking in English, explains that his friends are keeping his soul tethered to the world, and that he has a chance to come back to them. >Sonic wanders around, and finds Chao taking on the forms of Tammy, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Venice, and finally, the real Eggman, who has flown in and reformed. Sonic is transported through a stage to run through for each, based on a prior location in the series, while said character explains how important Sonic is to them and how they've changed their lives. >Finally, Sonic comes across a Sonic Chao. This would be the final level in the series as he runs through a surreal dreamlike stage, escaping from Purgatory. As he springs back to life, the celebration is short-lived, as nobody knows how to stop Solaris. Eggman had brought the Chaos Emeralds just in time! Sonic and Shadow transform, while Venice uses his awakened state. The final boss begins. >Solaris is destroyed, Elise and Nega seemingly along with them. There is a false celebration, however, as Nega now takes complete control! The Chaos Emeralds are sucked into the remains of Solaris and crumble to dust, as Nega now becomes a godlike being. >Reality starts to break apart. Venice saves Sonic and Shadow, carrying them with his psychokinesis, but all of Sonic's other friends seem to perish. The true final boss begins, playing out somewhat like the final boss of Kingdom Hearts 2. In addition to starting to reshape the world into a surreal, insane mess with his power, Nega now has to be defeated without the use of Super forms, as Venice is powered down after the first phase. >Nega's final form is his human state, fought in a foggy void of nothingness. The representations of Present, Past, and Future now stand together to defeat Nega. His World starts up in its most epic remix yet. Sonic is the last one standing, landing the final blow as Nega vanishes in a flash of light. >Sonic is transported into a dark temple lit only by a tiny flame of Iblis, similar to 06's ending. Elise is there, crying, alone, and frightened. Neither she nor Sonic know what will happen if the flame is put out. Whether Elise will die, the world will reset from the beginning of time, or whatever. Sonic encourages her to smile, once again, and after a brief pause, blows out the flame. The rest of the plot plays out like 06's ending, only Elise and Sonic are the only ones with any memory of what happened. >Roll credits: https://youtu.be/_OykV-d2zG4?t=10
>>22071 >>22070 >>22072 >Eggman reformed I assume at Adventure 2? >Nega Looks to me like you split Mephiles into two characters. Fine I guess since Mephiles was never really well done. >Mobius Eh
>>22077 >Eggman reformed Yes. In SA2's ending, Eggman decides that he needs some time to reflect, after witnessing the actions of his grandfather and Shadow. >Nega It's more like I used Eggman Nega in a way that didn't make him a complete joke. But I suppose yes, between him and Shadow's Shadow, Mephiles is two characters. >Mobius Of all the things I've posted, THAT'S what you have a problem with?
Another note: >There are indeed other living Echidnas in the present they just don't take their old ways seriously. Knuckles stands out for belonging to a lineage that respect their duties in the old empire
>>22079 "Tradition is nothing but ancestral peer pressure." —Some Gender-Confused Tranny
>>22080 I mean there not wrong
>>22080 Peer pressure it may be, but it's key peer pressure. I didn't say this before, but I think Knuckles' duty as ME guardian requires the ME to have a deeper purpose than just locking up Chaos. It needs to be some sort of key structure in how the world itself functions that if disturbed would lead to calamity Chaos or no. Having the ME's importance be just for Chaos raises the question what Knckles does his job for once Chaos is redeemed. I also throw in that Knuckles should already be suspicious of Eggman by the time he comes for the ME. When Knuckles faces Sonic at Launch Base he noticed Eggman there and wondered if they were connected.
>>22084 Knuckles guarding the ME is the only life he's ever known. It makes sense for him to continue to do so, even after Chaos is gone. I'm more willing to question why the ME is out in the open, not even obscured by any trees or mountains, instead of something like Hidden Palace where it's actually, y'know, hidden. I mean how does Knuckles eat? Or take a shit? He's gotta leave the shrine unprotected at some point.
>>22089 It was just soft retconned out. They went all out on the Echidnas being furry Mesoamericans that they moved the ME into some altar. There wasn't really evidence in the Classic Era of furry only "civilization." That really came with Adventure.
>>22089 >Knuckles guarding the ME is the only life he's ever known. It makes sense for him to continue to do so, even after Chaos is gone What about the adventures he's been in? Wouldn't they have given him experience doing other things and curiosity and desires beyond being a red tree all his life?
>>22090 I can accept them being furry Mesoamericans and that the ME is on an altar WHEN THEY'RE ON THE GROUND. But Angel Island ought to be more like Laputa in Castle in the Sky. The old shrine could still be there, but it should just be a relic. The ME ought to be somewhere else. Have more techy stuff to imply time passed between Tikal's time and Knuckles. Angel Island should have stuff like the Ancient tech in Zelda BOTW, with rusty, broken down robots guarding the island that Eggman maybe corrupts and repurposes. >>22091 Perhaps. I even have an idea for SA1 ending with the ME shattering completely, meaning it's no longer a half-assed plot device for SA2.
>>22092 Classic Angel Island had tech going from Knuckles' traps and Sky Sanctuary. >Perhaps. I even have an idea for SA1 ending with the ME shattering completely, meaning it's no longer a half-assed plot device for SA2. I actually had notes for rewriting Advenute 2's plot to be more in line with a Classic universe.

What do you all say about G.U.N.? On one hand, I do think something like G.U.N. is narratively neccessary to both do Shadow's backstory and represent Sonic's freespirit nature of his characterization. As well, it helps avoid making Sonic and Posse into the "Freedom Fighters" who are more or less the only ones who actively try to keep their world nice and not burning. On the other, I think G.U.N.'s usage in Adventure 2 is too on the nose. I don't mind them framing Sonic to distract attention from Shadow, but I do think them gunning down the little white terminal girl was too over-the-top in making them too "evil." You could just change the way Maria died or have her alive but real old or even change her personality/history so she's not just a way to motivate Shadow to commit genocide while letting him still be sympathetic but that has deeper impact just for how it'd impact Shadow.
>>22117 Players (and SEGA, evidently) tend to believe that GUN works for the benefit of humanity and are simply people doing their jobs, and that they're not necessarily evil. But back when SA2 was written, they were very much intended to be a corrupt military government. The President is a figurehead, while GUN are the ones truly in control. It's a very common trope in Japanese media, as it's based on how Japan operated during the Edo period with the Tokugawa shogunate. So I reject this notion that they shouldn't be evil, and I also reject the notion that after SA2 they should get reformed into being good guys. If anything, power should redirect back to the President, while GUN is disbanded entirely. Team Dark would be part of the President's secret service, rather than GUN agents.
>>22118 I counter that the "well meaning if seriously flawed men doing their jobs" interpretation was the one ST went with in both the games after Adventure 2 and Sonic X until they just removed it from the series. One could then say that ST either didn't intend the depiction of them as some power behind the throne running their schemes or walked back on it. Mind you, I strongly suspect ST regrets G.U.N. being a thing now and if there is ever a legit reboot for the franchise that Shadow having alien blood has a notably higher chance of carrying over than G.U.N. and the non-Eggman Robotniks.
>>22120 That's largely Iizuka's interpretation, who incidently also ignores the whole "mad psycho scientist" thing with Gerald and chooses to portray him as a great, noble man. Shiro Maekawa, SA2's writer (who also wrote Black Knight…makes you think, huh?) largely had his own ideas about how Shadow and GUN were portrayed. But if GUN really wasn't intended to be portrayed as a military superpower pulling the strings, then…why are there so many scenes in SA2 that heavily imply that? It's more likely that they walked back on it, as they didn't want to give young children any negative feelings towards the military or police.
Alright, I have questions for a sorta survey here. What are your stances on: 1. Humie and Furry Relations (Two-Worlds, how they interact) 2. Sol Dimension (namely if it should still be a thing) 3. Super Forms (who can have them, what they can do) 4. Time travel's use (namely if Silver is still.a.thing) 5. Space aliens 6. Characterization things like Eggman's morality (what he won't do to win) and attitude towards Sonic (sheer loathing like in Western interpretations, hidden fondness and certain respect as shown in X and told in sources like Sonic Channel, other), Tails' role as a sidekick (namely where he leans more between being "a little Sonic", and being a "good guy Eggman"), how Sonic handles his enemies (like whether he's fine with capping them even when they aren't monsters), whether Rouge is more of a criminal or more of a MCU Black Widow, Knuckles' position as a guardian… 7. Shadow's backstory and ong-term arc. 8. What to do with the likes of Cream, the Chaotix, Babylon Rogues, etc.
>>22126 1. Both humans and furries can co-exist, but humans should densely populate man-made cities, while furries should densely populate forests and other naturesque environments, with some very minor overlap inbetween (Furries down with city life in the former, treehuggers in the latter). 2. Sol Dimension should be dropped. It only serves to make things more convoluted, and it's not a very interesting setting to begin with (it's literally just Sonic's world, but the CE's are now the SE's and also there's a recolor Eggman walking around). 3. Both Sonic and Shadow should get Super forms from the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic's would behave as we know it, and Shadow's would behave like Scourge's Super form in the comics, draining him of his energy when powering down. Knuckles should be able to draw power from the ME when in close proximity to it for a pseudo-Super form (this would help for its last line of defense). Silver doesn't really need a Super form considering his psychokinesis already allows him to fly, and he has near-limitless amounts of strength to lift things several-thousand times his size in both 06 and Gens. I don't think anyone else should go Super, really. Sonic is able to go Super because he's the ultimate life form and the "chosen one". Shadow is able to go Super because he's an attempt to replicate Sonic, but it isn't perfect. Nobody should be able to go Super just by gathering the emeralds and making a wish. 4. Time travel must not create a paradox. No "it's a cartoon" excuse. Going back to the past must be a one-way trip. 5. Unless Sonic goes into space, no aliens, and no invasion. Sonic's world is not so plain and uninteresting that we need an alien invasion to spice things up. 6. Eggman can warp time/reality, trap animals in robots, and do extreme damage to the environment, but he will not go out of his way to try to kill human beings, nor will he do actual recognizable real-life grimdark shit like torture, lobotomies, cybernetic implants, basically the kind of shit Ian Flynn loves to make him do. I hate that shit. He can respect Sonic as an adversary but still want him dead. Tails should be the Peter Parker to Eggman's Tony Stark. He can create respectable tech with whatever he can scrounge up, but he shouldn't be making stupid levels of genius tech. He's a child-aged Sonic fanboy first, and a boy genius second. I can't really comment on Sonic and the others. 7. Shadow should die and stay dead. His character simply doesn't work long-term. There's no justification for him sticking around other than to be an edgelord. 8. Unless it's a sports title, either drop them or make them actually relevant to the plot with actual character development on their end. Don't just have them show up for the sake of fanservice, do some random thing in a cutscene, then act like that made their inclusion worth it.
Here's the last set of questions: 9. Do you think Sonic and Co. can be shown to have estasblished families? 10. Yes or no on there being other Echidnas in the present? 11. What should be done with Metal Sonic? 12. Would you incorporate ANY non-game characters? 13. Would you have a place for currently Classic Only characters (Fang, Bean, etc.)? 14. Use anything from games like the Sonic Storybooks or Chronicles? 15. Infinite?
>>22128 9. Nope. Them having parents reinforces the idea that they're children instead of independent characters. Only the likes of Tails and Cream should have parents, since they're actual children, and the former is an orphan, so… 10. Knuckles being the last of his kind is kinda his thing. No, there should not be other Echidnas. 11. Metal Sonic should not be reused over and over. It needs to be a threat again and not become eye-rollingly redundant. 12. Only if they were relevant to the plot. Sonic fans have been conditioned to want all their favorite characters to show up, but Forces proves that it's stupid for them to do so most of the time. I would like to see Sticks and Tangle show up though. And even though I said "no Echidnas" earlier, Dr. Finitevus is a great villain. 13. Fang and Honey would have their place. The former is a bounty hunter who Eggman could work with, and the latter could manage all the cosmetic items in the game. 14. Chronicles and Storybook games are spinoffs. They shouldn't carry over to main games, let alone be canon. 15. Sucks. Into the trash he goes.
>>22127 >Going back to the past must be a one-way trip. To add to this, here's how I'd like time travel to work in Sonic, and it's not unlike other series: Let's say you have 3 points: Present (Point A), Prehistoric times (Point B), and Silver's future (Point C). Sonic can go from A to C, assuming that C operates under the condition that Sonic vanishes at A, but the C that Sonic goes to cannot be the same C that Silver comes from. From there, he can go back to A, at the point immediately after he first vanished. He can go back to C, but only if it's right after he left C and he didn't influence events in A any further, otherwise it would be a different C entirely. Silver, on the other hand, cannot go back to C from A, because him interacting with Sonic would immediately pollute the time stream and create another timeline. If he were to attempt to go back to C, it wouldn't be from right where he left. It would be a separate timeline entirely where he'd likely meet another version of himself, thereby creating another paradox. Now let's assume Sonic goes from A or C to B. The same rules that apply to Silver now apply to him. There's no way he can go directly back to A from B, unless he does not influence any events in B AT ALL. If he does influence events in B, then the only way for him to return to A would be for some deus ex machina shit to occur that restores the timeline to equilibrium, and plops Sonic right back where it all started, allowing for the time travelling to never have occurred (or needed to occur) in the first place. Sonic's memories, battle damage, and anything he had in his pocket/hammer space would be retained.
So what are the biggest changes that came to the plots of the Adventure games?
>>22126 >>22128 1. Nothing against it. I believe >>22127 has the best idea for it. It has massive potential for racist segregation undertones (in order to teach the kids not to discriminate). 2. It's one of those things that could've been done better. In the end it feels pointless as apparently there's technically Two Blazes (one who stayed in Sol, and one who "never existed" in the prime dimension). Here's my chance to go back to my >>22067 theory. 3. Anyone could do it with enough willpower (they stopped giving a shit about the rules aeons ago, so why not just make it a basic rule that all 7 can't be in the hands of one single individual, Eggman didn't think to do this earlier for the same reason he apparently didn't torture Sonic for those 6 months (he's an idiot)). 4. "Multiverse theory's a bitch!" — Cell 5. If it's going to be part of a plot, don't force it. I'd be creative and have one side of them be the good guys. Imagine a crossover with Freedom Planet. Clichéd, but full of potential. 6. While I'd like Eggman to have some moral standards, I think it needs to be built up over time like a deep-rooted character analysis. It's already somewhat established that the reason he's evil is because his family was always given shit for the things his Grandfather tried to do for the better of humanity (skewered by the government that he was a mad-man who tried to kill the planet). You could have him be an individual who was bullied and put down by nearly everyone in his whole life just for being a Robotnik, until the day he simply decided to forsake the humanity that never gave him a chance (like Tails if Sonic never found him on that island). 7. I think the only thing they need to change is NOT giving him amnesia a second time. His moral conflict in Shadow the Hedgehog wouldn't be the result of memory loss, but being split between saving the humanity he so hates for Maria (the only being he cared about), or simply leaving them to rot because he thinks she was wrong (it feels much deeper in the sense that he's letting go and following his own ways). I always did imagine that Maria would somehow return in "Mobian" form after Shadow The Hedgehog (Best Ending). It's a bit retarded, but the epilogue (after he saved the planet) could be the Master Emerald "summoning" him and pulling him inside in order to thank him for saving the world by fulfilling his greatest desire: "To see her again." (because it's established multiple times that the ME can do basically anything (on it's own accord), and that it has a mind of its own). I just think she'd make a great character in the cast as "the sister" of the bunch. 8. Basically, only use them if they're relevant to the plot. Pointless cameos are just that, pointless. The best they can do is include a picture/reference like Mighty, Fang and Ray in Generations. 9. Outside Archie? No… It's already more or less established that most of them are orphans for valid reasons (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Giving them parents means making massive alterations to their characters and plots (that's why Archie works in this case). 10. I like what >>22079 said. It would teach kids the risk of learning the balance between conservative and progressive. Both Shade and Knuckles have their own responsibilities, and they can either follow all of it (in respect of their ancestors), or only the important of it (in respect of themselves, and the possible future of the planet). When you're a bad guardian as he is, of course you need to establish some changes. Don't stick to the old, or do everything new, just find what works. 11. What >>22129 said. He's a good villain, but reusing him is getting tedious for everybody. 12. If I've seen one OC, I've seen them all. Once again, I agree with >>22129 13. I would. Along with what >>22129 said, I'd also make Bean and Bark Fellow Bounty Hunters, I'd even find a place for Tiara Boobowski (from that cancelled Saturn mess). Maybe as another potential hand-puller for Sonic besides Amy just to have some comedy in a love-triangle (once again, it's clichéd, but much better than how they handled Sally). 14. As far as I'm concerned, The Books happened in every dimension in their own way (as to not influence the main plots). Chronicles was a great potential that was not only poorly executed, but also poorly handled once that Fat Fuck decided to pull a "Karen-suit" on it (basically, milk it until it's dry). 15. They could've used a mind-controlled Shadow in his place, and it would be 1000x better (then fan-comics like "Ghost of the Future" would be just a tad bit cooler). As far as I'm concerned, he's about as pointless and underwritten as the rest of the game is.
Alright, I went and made some characterization notes for here: Sonic >Less non-offensively nice. More standoffish. More of a temper. Sonic was designed as something of a loner and a traveler. Therefore he shouldn't really want to acquire some big cast of friends and rivals. Since he has, he can get impatient with them. It's not that he's mean, and it's not that he hates them, but he doesn't have to be Jesus to everyone all the time. Shadow's a more extreme Sonic, Rouge is shady, Amy's clingy, Knuckles ends up making trouble for him or just rubs him wrong, and sometimes he even wants some time away from Tails. Also since he's the type to do things on his own, he's not always going to stick around for the plot dump, at least if he has an idea of what needs to be done. Tails >Mostly as he is in Adventure One combined with Sonic OVA. It showed off his drive to be like Sonic and his tinkering without making him an outright "Good Eggman" while OVA let him be a little kid. And quit trying to make him into some post-Luigi's Mansion Luigi (more obviousky flawed sidekick). Knuckles >Make him being an outdoorsman/savage more noticeable. Before Eggman he lived in the ruin of his civilization. He should be uncomfortable around parts of modernity with just enough tech experience from AI to improvise. Let him be a guardian for all the Chaos Rocks, not just the Master Emerald. Amy >She was designed to be a reckless fangirl. Stop trying to "remake" her. She's not level-headed, not some wise mature warrior, and she doesn't have to be Princess Sally. Let her have Cream as her sidekick/BFF. Metal Sonic >Getting the better of Sonic is just about all what he cares for most. Whether it's surpassing Sonic, destroying Sonic, being Sonic (in a sense). He will (mostly) follow Eggman's orders, but with great reluctance if it means not getting a shot at Sonic Shadow >He's a more extreme Sonic, or at least was introduced as such. Let him be this regardless of his origin. Sonic is a bit of a loner so Shadow's aloof. Sonic doesn't respect authority so he's an outright enemy of governments around the world since he's the Ultimate Lifeform. Eggman >Make the lore from sources like Technical Files be more relevant to his character. He'd be a manchild who finds a beauty in machines and doesn't care about pollution but doesn't revel in inflicting it and suffering. He has fun running his schemes, but more so from him finding something worthy to challenge his supreme mind. He wants to mechanize the world since he believes it's for the best and opposes Sonic but comes to appreciate his talent, wishing he and his little bro could just cooperate. Rouge >Keep her status as a career criminal who happens to be employed by a higher authority more obvious rather than her being some furry Black Widow. Have her "city girl who's dazzling" element from Sonic Battle be bigger to let her contrast with Knuckles shine brighter. Chaotix >Make them more rooted in their Classic era portrayal and not a team. The team gimmick has been overused (even if I appreciate Heroes being a rare example of Canon Sonic having the cast fight over conflicting interests). Overall >Make the characters more disconnected, not a furry Justice League. Sonic alone goes off somewhere, Tails does something in his lab, Amy and Cream are doing whatever. Etc. The cast aren't one big army of friends.
>>22173 >It has massive potential for racist segregation undertones (in order to teach the kids not to discriminate). Oh god, no. No, no, no, that is not what I was going for at all. I was simply going for a thematic separation between technological environments and naturesque environments. I do not want ANYTHING in Sonic to touch upon real-life controversial social issues. In my "dream Sonic utopia" there's no segregation, just a preference between furries and humans on where they like to live.
>>22201 I was just messing with you guys. I'm just being ironic by pointing out the fact that even we can come up with better ideas than the morons at SEGA who think they need to be hip and dated.
>>22191 Why are so many of you hooked on making the only female lead a mindless fangirl? Do you know how polarizing this is? The Sonic fanbase has a higher female % than most Nintendo games besides Animal Crossing and maybe Splatoon.
Make them like 6-10 years older cause 17-25 is more of a "fun" life range to write for than 6-15 range Double bonus because 17-25 year olds aren't super mature like they were in the past, today.
>>22224 Why does it have to be "one of the guys" or "mindless fangirl bimbo"? Is there not a middle ground we can work with here? Female characters can want to bone the male lead without being "polarizing". See Jessie in FF7R. I'd like Amy to be more like that, but a little more exaggerated and cartoony about it. >>22227 The problem there is when they're teenagers, they're hip, they're cool, and they're role models for the younger kids while not being older fuddy-duddy adults.
>>22231 Sonic fits better for a universal age range, imo. 17-24 is still "hip". That's the age range executives target when they aren't targeting kids. Hell, Mario and his friends aren't even teenagers.
>>22231 Nah, I don't like 'one of the guys' trope either. My problem is Amy is clearly designed with the purpose of being a girls' girl, so having her existence just linger on as a male's side without actually getting his D is pretty disappointing. Even if she isn't a high femme fatale like Rouge or a super sweet innocent kid like Cream, she looks more natural and relatable which is kinda how Sonic and Knuckles were designed like. She needs more foundation and ground to stand on her own, without being Princess Sally 2.0, or yet another male character in a female body typecast, independent of being just Sonic's fangirl. That's what good writers can and will do.
>>22224 >only female lead She wasn't intended to be a "lead" in the same way as Sonic and Tails and Knuckles. And we already have Blaze now so there's really no need to force Amy into something she's not from Sonic Team trying to flatten the setting. >Do you know how polarizing this is? Stop using Amy as a tool just from you/Sonic Team refusing to engage with other characters. >>22231 Again, there are other characters than just Amy. The whole notion that "Amy has to stop being a fangirl" roots in demands that she be some master heroine when she wasn't meant to be such. You expect me to believe that Amy took some college course on military strategy so she's some army leader now? Please.
>>22235 >She wasn't intended to be a "lead" in the same way as Sonic and Tails and Knuckles. And we already have Blaze now so there's really no need to force Amy into something she's not from Sonic Team trying to flatten the setting. She was the only visible female character for awhile, so even though she wasn't treated like a "lead" that was her primary function considering Blaze still doesn't get any attention from Sonic Team. Even Princess Peach had several starring roles in games despite being damsel-in-distress game filler for most of Mario's life. >Stop using Amy as a tool just from you/Sonic Team refusing to engage with other characters. Making one character not a boring, unfunny trope that is "lol fangirl" is not "refusing to engage with other characters". It's correcting an unnecessary oversight that was Amy's character from day 1. Considering "lolz Amy chasing Sonic" came from SEGA being too dumb to differentiate Tania from Amy in the manga, it's safe to say that it was a mistake and hasn't done much to make the character more likable or needed in general. >Again, there are other characters than just Amy. The whole notion that "Amy has to stop being a fangirl" roots in demands that she be some master heroine when she wasn't meant to be such. >You expect me to believe that Amy took some college course on military strategy so she's some army leader now? Please. I don't need her to be overly-competent or super responsible, she can still be goofy, she can still have a crush on Sonic, I just don't want or see the purpose for that crush on Sonic to be her entire character. Can you not chew gum and walk at the same time?
>She was the only visible female character for awhile, so even though she wasn't treated like a "lead" that was her primary function considering Blaze still doesn't get any attention from Sonic Team. The Genesis Era only used Amy after CD to fill up rosters. The Adventure Era only had Amy as anything like a lone protagonist with dialogue in Adventure and Battle. And even ignoring Blaze there's at least Rouge. It's silly to demand Amy be some major heroine who's all mature n sheet when you have other characters who fill that void even if Sonic Team refuses to more with them. >Even Princess Peach had several starring roles in games despite being damsel-in-distress game filler for most of Mario's life. >Comparing Amy to Peach in importance. Peach was there since Day One as Mario's goal. Amy was only in CD and the spinoffs within the Classic Era. She was designed to be an Anti-Princess Peach in that the hero (Sonic) actively avoids her with her chasing him >I don't need her to be overly-competent or super responsible, she can still be goofy, she can still have a crush on Sonic, I just don't want or see the purpose for that crush on Sonic to be her entire character. Can you not chew gum and walk at the same time? Amy needs nothing more than how she is in Adventure.
>>22256 Nah, you're boring.
>It's silly to demand Amy be some major heroine who's all mature n sheet >I don't need her to be overly-competent or super responsible lol

I don't understand why Sonic fans want every single character to be a competent badass with only a few minor character flaws that are never elaborated on. Some of you even want Eggman to be a tortured, complicated villain. I know this is a difficult concept to accept, but characters can be flawed, goofy, simple, and endearing/charming, at the same time. Pic related hits a lot of notes for how I'd like Eggman to be portrayed. The problem with Amy isn't that her character is a fangirl, or that she's a damsel in distress. The problem is she's not funny. At all. She's clearly intended to be funny. Her chasing after Sonic and threatening him with violence if he doesn't marry her is clearly meant to be funny. And it WAS funny, in Sonic CD, when she was 8 years old, because it's cute and completely understandable for a small unsupervised child to act that way to a celebrity. Not so much when she's older, where she ought to know better. In addition, the whole "fangirls chasing after popular celebrity" thing is only really funny when it's a group, and not one single girl. That makes all the difference in preventing Amy from looking like a stalker.
>>22268 > I don't understand why Sonic fans want every single character to be a competent badass with only a few minor character flaws that are never elaborated on. I think the reading comprehension on this board is really bad, or that people here purposely get defensive and therefore don't read when their points are being challenged. Nobody said that here. Accurate, but mind you in most anon's head Amy is around 12-16, which just makes it seem unfunny. Honestly, to me it's so overdone that you might as well throw it away. I thought early STC Amy was cute. She was goofy and teased Sonic about her crush but clearly had a personality about that.
>>22261 >>22260 Not an argument. >>22268 Amy gets it extra hard since now there's this notion ladies need to be all-powerful role models so that childless women can live through them and coomers can coom until death. It's what gets bad characters like Rey and Capt Marvel and Korra.
>>22272 >wahh women
>>22274 Not an argument.
I know this sounds like a weird idea, but one character I want reworked is this guy. The President. He's basically an afterthought in SA2's plot, and what little personality we see from him makes him look like an incompetent leader who gets inspired by Sonic or some shit like that by the end. Sonic could still inspire him on some level, but I honestly think in the exaggerated world of Sonic, he should be more of a badass. I mean, this is the leader of the fucking UNITED FEDERATION. As in he's not just President of whatever Sonic's equivalent of the US is, he's President of the WORLD.
>>22278 Sure that the UF is just Sonic's version Murica. Shadow's Hard Mode even talks about Japan.
>>22281 No, it's not just Murica. All information from sourcebooks I could find points to him being THE Chief Executive Officer of the United Federation. It's not like this is a dictatorship. Murica is still his country, and other countries have their own leaders, but all signs point not only towards GUN being literal world police, but also the President being at least part of the top brass managing the world's nations, if not the highest-ranking government official in the world. And yet not once is he ever portrayed as a man of action.

https://greenyvertekins.tumblr.com/post/625718599702790144/continuing-to-skim-the-guide-and-wanted-to >“A very selfish self-proclaimed evil genius scientist. He loves mecha’s more than he does three meals a day. Because he places such value on his aesthetics, his design philosophy regarding mecha often focuses on design and gimmickry more than is necessary. His goal is to build “Eggmanland”, his ideal city. The numerous actions he takes to achieve this goal just so happen to be “bad things” in light of common sense. In any case, he doesn’t actually mean any ill will” Neat how Eggman legit thinking what he's doing is for the best is supported by Adventure's canon.
>Sonic is a young drifter who has spent most of his life up to age 14 raised by people across the world. Jungle lions, southern rabbit cowboys, mountain wolf tribes, polar bear societies, even spent 3 seasons in a British like city making friends there. He's a cocky but earnest guy, always there for the little guy, and always with the jokes >People across the world have a lot to say about him, and some see him as a real life folklore legend >A couple years back, Sonic befriended a little 2 tailed fox named Tails, he's really smart but doesn't have a lab. So he makes a lot of handheld material to keep in a small backpack. Translators, transforming airplanes, little radios, and built in weaponry. He and Sonic call each other brothers and Sonic helps Tails be more fearless >Knuckles is a stubborn guardian of the master emerald, and begrudgingly is friends with the Chaotix. They hang around the emerald from time to time make Knuckles open up, and sing songs during those times. He wishes he could leave the emerald >Amy is around Tails' age, she is sonic's biggest fan and would love to meet him. She's always going to places she hears rumors of Sonic being in. And is always getting in trouble because of her Sonic obsession. After Sonic and Tails have a crazy adventure where Sonic get's corrupted by a magical hammer, an ancient hammer spirit tells him to give the hammer to someone who has a pure heart yet obsesses over something they shouldn't. So Sonic gives it to Amy. As time passes, Sonic teaches Amy to be more mature and less dependent on him. But she still has a lot to learn >Ivo Edmunds is a talking Egg, a rarity in the sonic universe. As egg laying sonic worldians have their eggs hatch. But when edmunds was an egg waiting to hatch, he opened his eyes and spoke in his shelled form. Seen as an abomination, edmunds had to discover language and intellect on his own. So he has a vendetta towards Sonic worldians, so he searches and hunts down the most powerful elements and worldians to consume their power so that he can become what he calls, "The boiled egg". Edmunds is a murderous jokester who has the heart of Theodore Roosevelt >Rouge the bat is a thief turned secret agent for G.U.N, she embarks on journeys to find material for GUN to get a hold on. So she maybe apart of some geology expedition, or in a gala banquet in a foreign city, or she maybe in a heist plan with some criminals. But it's all in the name of GUN. She runs into Sonic and Tails during public special operations, so she always tells them to do the dirty work. While she runs into Knuckles during those incognito missions, and she always grows infatuated by the echidna always having a hard time doing her mission. She is some woman >Shadow and Silver's story is the exact same, but after 06, an interdimensional organization saw potential in both of them and assigned them as interdimensional "zone cops". Shadow, a rough warrior with high hubris for himself, and Silver, a young dorky telepath who overthinks things, must work together as they jump into alternate universes. Some familiar and some unfamiliar, meeting new, old, and alternative friends on the way Sonic and Tails are more like drifters who happen to get into heroic situations, not your superhero types looking to save the day. Sometimes they stay in an area to have fun, and sometimes they run into secret agent conspiracy business. Whatever happens, they'll always be true to themselves

>>22528 I think it could be useful to have characters like Gerald and maybe the president be around for certain plot points but in very limited cases and I'm not sure how much prominence I'd give them, so I'd say keep them in the smallest amount possible. The only character that deserves to be featured in every game is Chuck Thorndyke anyway.

>>22016 >tfw no whole game that recreates old stages like Green Hill in Sonic Adventure 2. I remember when Sonic '06 was announced, I convinced myself that's what it was going to be, due to the name, as well as Sega constantly saying they were "going back to the roots," and showing off updated designs for Sonic 1 enemies like Crabmeats and Buzz Bombers. In terms of story, I do think a game like that would be cool. You could put in cutscenes to highlight the story that was always in the manual. But it would be impractical to actually cover a lot of the story that way, unless you skip a bunch of levels and do a "best of" adaptation that covers just the most important levels while also mentioning the story, but I don't think that would be as fun, as cool, or really show off the story in as cool a way. To show off the story, what I'd actually do is a comic book that actually tries to accurately adapt the story that's already there, because I do think that story is good. The IDW series is mostly like the comics, so instead of doing spinoffs about OCs, they should just do a spinoff that is a prequel that directly adapts the games. I know Archie claimed to do that a bunch of times, but always went out of their way to change the stories significantly, like by inserting the Freedom Fighters. Just do the story that's actually there. Some games' adaptations would be shorter than others, but if you put them together, they make something pretty cool. And I mean put them ALL together. All the spinoffs and everything. >start with Sonic 1 adaptation. this time Eggman has discovered the mythical South Island, which floats through the seas, thought to be a legend, where the legendary Chaos Emeralds are hidden, but in a sub-dimension known as the Special Stage, a special stage of reality. >If Eggman can get all six, he can use them to power superweapons that would make him unstoppable. >Chasing Eggman to South Island, Sonic finds rings, which are small portals to the Special Stage and grant tiny amounts of chaos energy, AKA Life Energy, which give limited invulnerability. But the Chaos Energy is very chaotic, obviously, so when that energy is disturbed by its user getting hurt, the rings scatter. When Sonic gets enough of them, he sometimes finds Giant Rings which let him go to the Special Stage and get the Emeralds >All this exposition is of course given slowly. Green Hill Zone is used to introduce the characters of Sonic and Robotnik. Sonic calls him Eggman, but Robotnik doesn't like this (yet), even though he, and a bunch of his machines, look oddly like eggs. We establish that they've fought many times before, and introduce the fact that due to Sonic's history of recruiting locals to his cause, Eggman has put the local animals in robots. Eggman also alludes to the fact that their fight will be different this time, because of a secret on the island. Sonic finds the rings but doesn't quite understand them, and eventually finds a Giant Ring and ends up in the Special Stage, finding a Chaos Emerald, but doesn't know what's going on, just that it seems important. >Eventually Sonic defeats Eggman's first boss machine, but Eggman flies away over a volcanic mountain. Sonic has to go through the mountain. There, he finds some ancient ruins which fill him in on the basic lore of the Chaos Emeralds, how they are said to be the source of life for all living beings. Sonic finds another giant ring and gets another Chaos Emerald, when he comes out of the Special Stage he finds himself caught up to Eggman and the second boss fight happens. Sonic asks why Eggman would want the Chaos Emeralds, and Eggman explains his plan to use them to power superweapons that will make him unstoppable. >Sonic defeats this boss machine too, and Eggman flies away again, into territory he's already taken over. As he does so, Sonic sees the giant junkyard on the outskirts of Eggman's territory, and chases him through it. Spring Yard Zone is used to explore just how bad it would be if Eggman won, just what he does to the places he takes over. Sonic finds another Giant Ring and gets another Chaos Emerald, and again comes out of the Special Stage caught up to Eggman, leading to another fight. Sonic criticizes Eggman for this junkyard. Eggman explains that you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. >This is followed by Sonic breaking his latest machine, but they both fall through the bridge that they were fighting on (and Eggman was breaking), landing in flooded ruins. Eggman can fly over the water, but Sonic is slowed significantly underwater, and can't breathe underwater, which is almost enough to make him panic, almost. Along his way through this zone, he also sees more murals and writings that explain that the rings are tools used to act as portals to the Special Stage, which allows a bit of Chaos (life) Energy through them, which explains why they allow Sonic a degree of invincibility when he has them, and why when Sonic has enough of them, Giant Rings appear which allow him to actually go to the Special Stage. But chaos is chaotic, so when the user of the energy does get disturbed (injured), the rings scatter. This leads to Sonic seeing a mural/writing that explains how in the past, when used incorrectly, the Chaos Emeralds brought great destruction, leading to the flooded ruins he's in now. After getting another Emerald, Sonic catches up with Eggman again and tries to warn him that the Chaos Emeralds are dangerous, but Eggman is too arrogant to care. He escapes the ruins, leaving Sonic behind, and flies off deeper into his territory, over a "city." >now convinced more than ever that Eggman is too dangerous to be allowed to escape, Sonic chases him through the star-lit city, inhabited solely by Eggman's robots, transformed into technological monstrosities just as the once natural landscape has been transformed. Sonic gets another emerald and fights Eggman again, but he escapes into his headquarters. Sonic follows him through this lab/factory, but right as he finally catches up through the maze-like structure, Eggman activates a trap-floor and sends Sonic back into the flooded ruins under the island. But Sonic makes his way back up and defeats Eggman, destroying the giant engine that powers his operations, sending Eggman fleeing South Island entirely. The day is saved, but as Sonic enjoys his victory and the beauty of the island, the Emeralds suddenly scatter away from him. All of the above would be like three issues. One issue for Green Hill and Marble (expositing character, then backstory), one for Scrap Yard and Labyrinth (again expositing character, then backstory), and one for Star Light and Final. The final issue would be a bit lighter on story, since most of the exposition and backstory has already been given by this point, but it's the finale, so tension is highest as you approach the climax. Action is the biggest priority there.
>the next story begins with Sonic explaining that after defeating Eggman, the Chaos Emeralds scattered, and he thought Eggman would move on to a new plan, but the Chaos Emeralds must be pretty powerful, since Eggman is after them again. As Sonic narrates this (in caption boxes), we see a montage of him fighting Eggman's boss machines in Green Hill, Bridge, Jungle, Labyrinth, and Scrap Brain. Meanwhile, in the present, Sonic is confronting Eggman aboard a giant airship. Sonic tells Eggman that he got the Emeralds again, and is about to defeat him again, so he tells Eggman to just give up. Eggman of course refuses, and gets beaten again. The Sky Base crashes into the ocean, and the Emeralds scatter again. Sonic wonders if Eggman will ever give up, and thinks how it would be a lot easier to stop him from getting the Emeralds if they didn't keep scattering. >meanwhile, Eggman considers just giving up on the Chaos Emeralds. But what could be more powerful than the legendary stones that power the mythical South Island? It took him nearly a year to even find the island, so how could he possibly find another place that makes as good a base, and has tools as powerful? He'll never find another plan as good. Never! Suddenly, he has an idea. >some time later, Sonic is running through the countryside, a city visible in the distance, though he's not running toward it. Suddenly, a huge explosion is seen in the city, and Sonic decides he has to check out the action. >Eggman is rampaging through the city in a giant machine. Sonic chases him through the city, but the traffic, vehicles and pedestrians, get in his way and slow him down. That's when he has an idea. He sees an unoccupied police car and jumps into it, putting on a police hat that he finds, for style. He turns on the siren, which gets the traffic out of the way, and is able to chase Eggman and eventually destroy his machine. Eggman escapes, however, and reveals that his real plan was to cause enough of a distraction and commotion in the city that he would be able to reach the government's (GUN's) space launch site and steal a spaceship. He manages to do so and gets away. >Sonic wonders what Eggman's real plan is, and tries to think of a way to catch him, but even though he feels like he didn't succeed, the people of the city come out to thank him, including one Amy Rose, who is immediately infatuated with him. A scientist who works for the government comes out and says that they have an experimental "Cosmo Fighter" that should be able to catch Eggman, but don't have a pilot yet. Sonic volunteers, and before long launches into space after Eggman. >Sonic has a shootout with Eggman in space, and after defeating him, finds a space station full of small animals. Sonic rescues them, but wonders how Eggman had time to build this and capture these animals so quickly. The above is all one issue.
>Amy Rose is playing with some tarot cards as she wistfully daydreams about Sonic. She tells herself that she knows she and Sonic are meant to be together, and asks the cards to confirm. Of course she interprets them as confirming exactly that. But then she realizes that she doesn't even know where to find Sonic. Amy asks the cards to tell her where to find Sonic, and reacts as if they tell her exactly where to look. >Sonic decides it's time to reward himself with a little vacation, and decides to go see a beautiful landmark and its amazing natural phenomenon: Never Lake. Once a year, above Never Lake, a magical moon called Little Planet appears. Sonic figures that would be nice to see, and heads for Never Lake. >As Sonic approaches Never Lake, he is horrified to see that Little Planet has been covered in so much machinery that it's visible from earth. As if it wasn't obvious enough who did it, the whole planet is chained to a mountain with Eggman's face carved into it. Sonic knows what he has to do, and runs up the giant chains to Little Planet. >On Little Planet, it's easy to see which places are more controlled by Eggman, and Sonic speeds toward the trouble. Sonic is alarmed to find that there are no animals on the planet, but thankfully, they're not inside Eggman's robots either. Instead, breaking the robots frees plant seeds that quickly grow into full flowers. Eventually, after running past a certain area and achieving a certain speed, Sonic suddenly finds himself warping into what he does not yet realize is the past. The past on Little Planet is even more idyllic, but Sonic still finds signs of Eggman, including a machine that seems to be doing something nefarious to plant seeds, which Sonic of course destroys. >Sonic eventually finds a giant ring and ends up in the Special Stage, where he sees some nefarious looking UFOs and attacks them until one of them drops a stone that looks suspiciously like a Chaos Emerald, but doesn't seem to give off the same energy. >coming out of the Special Stage, Sonic suddenly finds himself in a new environment, similar to the two eras he's already been, but not quite the same. In fact, it's even more beautiful. He appears in front of Eggman, who is shocked, reacting like things are changing around him, including his boss machine becoming completely harmless. Sonic asks Eggman what he's done to Little Planet. Eggman, shocked, asks Sonic what HE's done to Little Planet. Eggman says that he thought that using Little Planet's odd temporal anomalies to go back in time and take over the planet in the past would be the perfect plan. But somehow Sonic screwed it up. Of course, this accidentally reveals his plan to Sonic, not that Sonic quite understands it. Sonic is like "Oh, the past? Is that where I was?" But Sonic doesn't need to quite understand it to know what he needs to do, which is beat up his enemy again. Sonic easily defeats Eggman, causing him to fly away, swearing that this fight is not over. >Sonic declares that this is going to be their easiest fight yet, and chases Eggman into a new area, but as he does so, he accidentally warps back to the present, where he runs almost straight into Amy. Amy explains how she saw him and how her tarot cards told her they were meant to be together. Sonic tries to get away, but Amy follows. Sonic thinks this is annoying, but barely has time to be annoyed when suddenly a robot version of himself jets onto the scene. Amy is overjoyed at two Sonics, but not so much when this new Metal Sonic grabs her and flies away. Sonic, of course, speeds after them. >upon getting into the Special Stage again and getting another stone, Sonic finds himself in the future again, finally able to face off with Eggman again and ask him about the robot version of himself. Eggman explains how the idea was obvious. He couldn't beat Sonic before, so what better way to beat Sonic than with another Sonic? He then remarks, though, that maybe he didn't need Metal Sonic after all, since his current machine should be more than enough to beat Sonic. Of course they fight, and it isn't enough to beat him. So Eggman flies off again and Sonic gets warped back to the present again.
>Sonic finds himself in ancient aquatic ruins, the writings on them too eroded to read. But he has the idea to go back in time and find the people who made them. However, upon reaching the past, he finds it's also deserted. However, he can now read the inscriptions, which tell how the Time Stones made Little Planet go back and forth through time, keeping it mysterious and untouched, allowing those who lived there to live in peace from the Earth below. But these writings are not yet old. Sonic wonders what happens to those who wrote them, when suddenly, he runs into Metal Sonic, stepping on an animal. Sonic stops in his tracks, only to realize it's not the real Metal Sonic, but just a hologram. Sonic destroys the hologram, and a few small animals come out of hiding. Eggman explains that he arrived and used Metal Sonic to capture most inhabitants of the planet. When they saw Sonic, they must have thought he was the same guy who captured their friends, so they hid from him. It was the perfect way to keep them from helping Sonic. Of course, as they talk, they're fighting, and Eggman's arrogance and laughter at his own plan allows Sonic to destroy his current machine, sending him flying off. >Sonic is now more determined than ever to defeat Eggman, so he speeds through the next zone before finding Eggman and demanding to know what Eggman did with all the animals he captured. Eggman explains that Sonic already found them on his space station, when they fought in space, but that they'll have a hard time getting back to their own times considering Eggman has all the Time Stones. Sonic reveals that he has three Time Stones already, shocking Eggman, who thought hiding them in the Special Stage with his UFO machines guarding them would keep them protected. His shock allows Sonic to destroy his current machine, and send him flying away. >The next area, Wacky Workbench, is utopic paradise in the past, with more evidence of the culture Eggman is destroying. Sonic finds a statue of an angel, but as he warps to the future, the statue turns into a statue of Eggman. Upon finding Eggman again, Sonic demands to know where Amy is, and questions why Eggman would even capture her. Eggman explains that he didn't get rid of all the animals on the planet just to let Amy run around freely. Plus, the irony of her getting captured by Metal Sonic was too great to ignore. Sonic attacks Eggman again, demanding to know where Metal Sonic and Amy are. Eggman, injured, points to a city with a giant statue of himself in the center, in an attempt to get Sonic to leave him alone and let him escape. Sonic runs down the star-lit speedway to the center of the city. As he runs, he looks at the moon, and finds a large chunk of it blasted away, reminding him that this is the bad future that will happen if he doesn't stop Eggman. >As he approaches Eggman's base in the center, Metal Sonic catches up beside him, and they race toward the base. Of course, Sonic wins, passing through the doors and shutting them just in time for Metal Sonic to crash into them and explode. Sonic finds Amy tied up and frees her, telling her to stay here while he deals with Eggman, and that he'll be back in a flash. >Sonic runs into Eggman's base, but before he can confront the doctor one final time, he gets hit by a laser that shrinks him. He finds Amy at the entrance of the base and tries to ask her for help, but he's too small to get her attention. Instead he powers forward to the heart of the base, figuring that he can't let this stop him anyway. After an adventure dealing with giant enemies and traps, Sonic finds the growth-ray just in time to defeat Eggman and destroy his base, freeing Little Planet. >As Eggman's machines self-destruct all over the planet, Sonic speeds past Amy, whisking her off her feet, and carrying her backwards through the zones and down the giant chain back to Earth just in time for the chain to fall apart, freeing Little Planet and letting it disappear. Amy thanks Sonic for saving her, thinking that this confirms they're meant to be together, but as she leans in for a kiss, he seemingly doesn't even notice, speeding off before she can say another word. Again, this definitely wouldn't be more than three issues. One issue would cover the intro/Palmtree Panic/Collision Chaos, one for Tidal Tempest/Quartz Quadrant/Wacky Workbench, and one for Stardust Speedway/Metallic Madness/ending. About seven pages each zone would be enough, since you'd want this to be a rather fast paced series.
