could i get sued by sega if i created a franchise with the same or similar art style sonic has? sonic's art style is very unique and if i wanted to start drawing characters i would like to capture the essence and feel of sonic and use it for furries and humans alike, i wouldn't straight up rip off sonic but there would be similarities

>>22421 >could i get sued by sega I think you'd be fine, Sega is surprisingly lenient with their IPs. You might want to look up Freedom Planet if you haven't, they started as a Sonic fangame and eventually branched out into their own thing, and also Spark the Electric Jester has a style that's very close to Sonic's and have so far released a bunch of games.
>>22424 yo thanks for showing me these, got any other similar franchises?

>>22434 I came across this years ago, and found it again by pure chance (it already ended in case you'll ask). http://exterminatusnow.co.uk/ It's already branched out enough to be it's own unique thing, and some of the earlier issues might put you off slightly. It was made a decade ago by a bunch of Warhammer 40K Forum Junkies who quickly became good friends, and decided to do their own unique take on Mobius by combining it with Warhammer a bit. A fair warning, all characters in this are unique, there's not so much as a Sonic Cameo since they planned for it to be as original as possible.
>>22469 I remember reading this ages ago along with whatever was on themysticalforestzone >>22421 I mean, the essence of Sonic depends on whether you want to go classic or modern. If you like classic, look at Cuphead and really old cartoons for inspiration. Every other badnik has simple circular or angry eyes like pic related

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgS95rnB1t0 This Cartoon Network pilot's theme song takes musical cues and notes from the end of Sonic Heroes' theme song. The creator said it's supposed to represent saturday morning cartoons of their childhood. It's obviously taken a lot of Sonic/asian vidya gaem adjacent influences. You'll be fine

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtBSLCl24sY >>22421 I don't believe anyone can copyright an art style since that would be like claiming you own a piece of the concept of art itself (imagine someone trying to own the copyright for circles or lines). You do, however, own your interpretation of said art (Mickey and Pikachu are both cartoon mice and belong to their respective owners, but neither Disney or Nintendo/The Pokemon Company own the concept of cartoon mice). You'll probably be called a biter, but that's the worst Sega can do. >>22424 >>22434 Spark and Fark are so saturated in Sonic juices that they even have their own version of Crush 40.

>>22505 >I don't believe anyone can copyright an art style "look and feel" is definitely something you can get rights to and although I think that aims for something a bit different it doesn't sound like art style is too far behind. >Spark and Fark are so saturated in Sonic juices that they even have their own version of Crush 40. Not quite the same but still pretty cool!
>>22509 forgot to add >>22499 I really hate how hard they tried to fit in in that cartoon, it's not that awful otherwise so it feels there was really no need for that.
>>22510 >I really hate how hard they tried to fit in in that cartoon How would you rather have had it?
>>22530 Could start by ditching the buzzwords. Feels tryhard.
