Why does 3d animation feel so low effort and unappealing? I get that there is probably a lot of effort involved in making even that, but it all seems so unnatural, uncanny and unappealing (again). There is probably good reason why so many children's nursery rhymes channels on youtube use 3d animation. Those are content farms, and what can a content farm care about other than putting out content as quickly and with as low an effort as possible? Even 2d flash animations of yesteryear made by retarded autists feel better in most aspects than most 3d animation. Especially in the case of facial expressions. 2d gets it just right. 3d it looks horrifying and how bad it looks depends on the animator. Ofc u can make good 3d animation too, i do not deny that. Looks like disney does it well, and so does nick kroll. But most 3d animation i see is really shitty. Feels like they went the way of >download generic 3d model >make 3d environment >animate it somehow >not necessary to create your own models >not necessary to create your own artwork
>>128 It's generally because of that one keyframe with that exaggerated stretch between 2 frames with action in 2d animation that makes it look cartoony and full of life. Most 3d animations have somewhat realistic motion which completely defeats the purpose of animation. Even recent american 2d animations don't feel as good as the old ones like Tom and Jerry, woody woodpecker, popeye etc. With the advancement in technology it should've been much better but they focus too much on things that don't matter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oKreL1jvkg fucking horrifying >>129 its true that 3d has some lifelike movements but they could be harnessed to make it better. instead people make it so that it looks weird. american 2d animation has been bad since about 10 years now at least, conservatively. also i hate how rubbery 3d characters feel.
>>220 3D movements are super hard to animate. They need more "computer knowledge" than "artistic knowledge" . You've probably already seen how hard it was to animate Rapunzel' hair videos. Low effort 3D is probably easy to make (that's why most indian cartoons now are all 3D now). >also i hate how rubbery 3d characters feel. It's mostly because of lighting and 3D objects have weird textures and the realistic light source makes it even weird looking. I can't think of any 3D movie with great lighting and color palette right off the top of my head. 2D animations use exaggerated shadows and lighting which makes them feel more full of life. 2D mogs 3D in every possible way.
>>222 >They need more "computer knowledge" than "artistic knowledge Makes sense. hard to find anyone with technical skills like that in India tbh. If they were that smart they would become an engineer instead of a VFX artist. That might be the reason video games feel much better than movies?? Idk >2D mogs 3D in every possible way. Absolutely does, i sometimes think 3d is something that should not have been used outside of games. They have slightly different motives. 2d is very very good at conveying great visuals and creating the illusion of life, while 3d to some extent tries to mimic real life itself, and tries to paint a realistic picture instead of a, say aesthetically pleasing picture.
>>423 Wow I like this type of 3d animation that doesn't feel like it's made from clay
