Some basic, easy and simple but effective ideas that I've been saving until now:
>Use the rest of the board
This is a no-brainer, but a lot of people don't use the rest of the board nearly as often as they should.
If you're mostly hanging out in these threads, you're doing it wrong.
Make new threads, post in threads you're interested in, and link them to here if you want.
The board itself as a whole needs activity if you want to draw in users, a lot of the activity is concentrated in the GG threads, which is fine, but that doesn't mean neglecting the rest of the boards for those that do that.
Activity, for whatever reason, naturally draws in users. Its a strange fact that applies to even the most niche boards.
An example of one thread the GG thread can always help support is the drawthread. Encourage the artists, make requests, or start drawing yourself or making some OC. Post some OC from there to here or whatever for example. My requests keep getting answered, there's honestly too many artists and not enough good requests to go around.
If necessary, link to threads you create or are posting in or something. Or if a discussion seems interesting, or just whatever.
t. was a super niche BO back on .net and here, and whenever I posted a lot on my board, people I've never seen before would come in and start posting, dunno where they came from, and I never even shilled it or anything for a lot of those times, it seemed to work better than actual shilling on places.
>talk to anons personally on communities where you know they are
There are literally multiple steam groups with hundreds to thousands of anons, and I know some of you have steam accounts and might be friends with these fags. Some other places to try might be RPGCodex or various GG hubs like KiA.
Here's some links to the steam shit.
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chotwheels
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SSAVCH
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/video_games
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chmohun
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chan_monster
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/GoodLuckEbolaChan
And so on, literally searching "8chan" in the Steam groups search will get these results, and these are basically "confirmed" anons of the past.
Talk to them and see if they are willing to check out the board again, many might not even know this place exists.
Show them some OC from the drawthreads or something or another (like that we have our own streaming site now) to entice them and to know this place is alive and still creating things worth a damn.
There's also some scattered on other places, I've seen anons in the stream threads (well, specifically in the streams themselves) talk about anons on Telegram who didn't want to use the site for some reason or another, but it might be worth reaching out to those people again.
I think the InkyBlitz fag in the stream threads, and some others probably knew something.
They were talking in the Splatoon stream a few weeks ago.
I know there's some art and drawfags on twitter, deviantart, newgrounds, etc. go talk to them too if you have an account, same for discuck if you do. We even had new drawfags come in from cuckchan and give us some nice shit like the lewd sprites thread.
>use other boards here
This is a tough one because unfortunately, we lack users posting on the other non-spic boards to begin with. The webring served a useful purpose in that it allowed user sharing, and people to use boards for when their own site did not have one or was dead, or the other place was just better (i.e. PLW or Smug for anime discussion, since they already had an established, shared userbase with >us).
However, it is possible, just
try to use the boards I suppose, maybe Acid or someone can do a promotional thing like we did in the old days with the Hunger Games shit or something.
Don't force people to use other boards or push them off though when the thread gets a bit OT, that's faggotry, just encourage them to do so so the board can have activity.
There needs to be at least 2 dedicated, consistent posters for a board to grow, and unfortunately a lot of boards lack that, but if you want to be the hero, go for it.
That anon who did the CSS work for a lot of boards deserves a medal, I saw someone on /b/ many months ago making banners for anyone who requested for their boards, that kind of shit is very good and useful.
There was someone on /digi/ who was considering moving their board here, trying to recruit people from across these places, niche boards, and stuff can be a potentially good idea.
There's a
lot of boards that we barely know about that might be useful if brought to 8chan, like trashchan's /nep/ might be nice to have as a random example, even if they only want it as a backup board, its still them aware of us as allies and friends.
>encourage and do fun things and projects
Things like 8chan-mania, gamenights, bringing back drawpiles for the threads and reviving loomis, game dev shit like demo days, re-translations like what /nep/ used to have, what zzz has been doing with their magazines, the stream thread has some things going on like this, but really anything along these lines is a good idea.
>make your own OC
Doesn't matter if its a simple meme like anything or some shit, just make whatever you feel like, and if its relevant to anywhere on the board, post it.
[Expand Post]
Original content is part of what people coming, its what separates this board from many others.
This post should be organized into a proper operation post later, I've been putting it off due to life's busy-ness and wanting to have fun with games and shit, but if people actually feel like doing something, those are some very useful options that I have confidence will raise the board and its userbase.
In a nutshell, a board needs users, activity, OC, good moderation that encourages and works with the users rather than against them, fun projects and activities, memes, and eventually, we'll have the ability to affect the world in larger ways again, just be consistent about this.

I'll be honest, I tried very hard to get Acid to reconcile with the webring and vice-versa (and to Acid's credit, he genuinely tried with an olive branch), its not an issue of the users though (save for a small autistic minority), but the site owners are either absent/uncaring (PLW, anon.cafe, sportschan), or hate this site with a passion (Smug, zzz, possibly tvch)
It would be ideal if we could work with the webring, but at this point, I think the site owners of smug and zzz are a bit too hardheaded to ever consider reconciling
If that's possible though, I think it would be a net gain for all the imageboards involved, but at this point its unlikely.
However, it might be worth reminding some people on niche boards on said webring about our existence, I know Smug's monster produces a shit-ton of OC through the ourobooru, and they and /tg/ should not have any bad blood with us, some users might not be averse to using the board at least.
