I have a doujin folder in my general smut folder and they're sorted alphabetically upon extraction. Non comic drawing material are stand alone in the general folder unless they're part of a set or something and I try to name/find the source of whatever I can save.

I just use hydrus. It's still a mess, but at least there's tags for a lot of the files.

In most cases, it's because the exception category is something "rarer". Take red hair Kuppahime for example. I save pics not only because I like them, but because sometimes they're extremely difficult to find or have straight up disappeared from internet. There's a lot of common stuff in my folders, but I don't want to get rid of them because there are rare images along with them.

you're fighting a losing battle with the folder system. Eventually you'll want tagging, aka the ability to assign multiple attributes to a single file. For that you should check out >>>/hydrus/

I used to have a soft upper limit on the amount of hentai I could have on my computer because the more I added, the harder it became to organize things properly. I wish that Hydrus-dev was open to contributions from others though. It would be able to be developed so much faster that way, especially since it's programmed in Python, but oh well.

>>2024 you can easily do a regex on the import to pull folder names and filename into into tags. but the best bet is to download files from boorus and similar sources that has tags already that is scrapable. There is also always the PTR which is a Public Tag Repo for all the files and all the tags that any Hydrus user might use. the PTR contains 1.2 Billion mappings involving 28 million tags, mapped to 77 million files. Most of the common booru/weeb/porn/imageboard space.... mostly.
