I am thinking about ditching all digital mediums to read books and print all my books from pdfs. For this I need: 1. A printer that is cheap auto-duplex printer 2. A (semi) auto book binding machine that can be used to bind books at a reasonable rate. I've solved the first problem. I've marked this printer. It's cheap and supports auto-duplex print, also doesn't have DRMed cartridge. https://www.amazon.in/Brother-HL-L2321D-Single-Function-Monochrome-Printing/dp/B00SHFP99W But haven't found any good solution to the 2nd one. Any (semi)auto book binder do you guys know of? I've found the thermal binding machines that uses glue https://www.amazon.in/Heavy-Thermal-Binding-Machine-Capacity/dp/B06W5JM96Z/ but this type of binding comes off easily and also you need special glue for that. Other machines I've found are for mass production and not suitable for home use. Sewing books using threads is the best method. So far I've only found this machine that is suitable for home. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004753468481.html But I like the Japanese type book more (picrel) which is even more durable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-r6c_trSxY Do you guys happen know about any other machine that can do these kind of stuff? What I'm looking for: 1. For home use, not mass production 2. No thermal binding/spiral binding/stapler binding (like u see on notebooks)
>>1024 >ditch ebooks, print pdfs sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. you can install de-DRMed books onto an e-reader, and use it completely bereft of the internet. It'll be MUCH cheaper and you'll not have to sit with a dictionary in hand everytime you need to look up a new word. You can not connect it to the internet and treat it like an e-ink display, which shall serve the same purpose as an offline book, but with dictionary support.
>>1025r The problems with eink is: 1. small screen can't read journal papers A4 size. Biggest kindle is 7", has the same price as that of a premium smartphone. 2. larger eink tablets cost an arm and a leg for an Indian 3. eink devices are very fragile as per my research, even more so than smartphones 4. no repairing center 5. not bothered about dictionary, digital dictionaries have done the job much easier 6. I'm not an avid reader so not bothered about printing cost either. 7. last but not the least, on a lighter note, ditch tech save planet lol.
Also, does anyone know any forum/board to discuss these kind of stuff?

>>1024 Keep it simple, stupid and cheap. See picrel. One of the best part of using paper is being able to add your own notes and pages. >>1026 Your issue is, real life will force some tech on you. >>1027 Bumping. Id like to know about an anti tech/paper general forum as well.
>>1029 >>1027 https://www.antitechcollective.com/ is the only one I know of, that openly advocates against tech. some prepper forums may not necessarily be anti-tech, but they can help you with staying off the grid and without tech. Here are a few of them: https://www.survivalistboards.com/forums/ https://www.prepperforums.net/threads/anti-technology-philosophies-and-why-preppers-should-understand-them.127973/ https://www.preppergroups.com/forum-2/
>>1029 I'm talking about books with 100-200 pages on average and also want to make it semi-durable. Paper clips can't do that.
>>1031 The bigger clips are fine. Else go for ring binders and punch. Ive gone down this rabbithole. Upto you to trust my advice.
>>1032 I think I'll just buy the machine I posted. If I attach a needle at the end of the string I think Japanese-style binding can be easily done. I've found an Indian supplier, so hopefully I don't have to pay customs duty.
>>1024 https://boards.4chan.org/g/thread/92401542 These threads are useful sometimes. Post there
>>1034 The binding on these is too tight for me. I eventually got an a5 and a4 travellers notebook. But that doesnt fit your use case.
>>1060 I actually posted there. Wasn't of any use. >>1061 Will a 10.3" ereader be ok for reading research papers.
>>1066 I use a 7.8'' e reader and its good. 10.3 is great.
>>1066 I will post detailed reply tomorrow
>>1024 Sorry for the delay. Long story short, I had a quarter life crisis and read the unabombers manifesto, at the time I got a shitty job in a town bordering a forest, so I took a cheap room with questionable access to electricity. Similar to your idea, I got few reems of printer paper, some ink and a pen. Had most of what I need offline, became a shut in for 2 years roughly. Read and wrote a fuck ton in that time. The notes from that time are in India, so I can only share with you what I remember, would be interesting to read what I wrote from back then though. - bindings fail when weather conditions change, rain and summer make lot of changes to water. Spiral binding sucks but string binding has its issues with big books as well. - With paper there is no undo button, so you can find mistakes you repeat, which helps you find your own style and way of thinking. I like this. - doing this made me smart , I thought deeply about first principles, but it also made me socially incompetent. Being able to talk to nomries took me few more months I have since then stopped using paper to read, and only using it to write. But my reasons are to reduce the amount I need to carry. That is all.
>>1024 But this is as close to a pen oaper general we have so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_cMlaXmDno
