Halloween Movies Anonymous 09/27/2020 (Sun) 13:25:52 Id: e17040 No. 57
Thread for discussing (and recommending) movies that fit the Halloween spirit. Not necessarily horror films (many of them aren't scary at all), but which embody the spirit of the holiday. Hallmarks of October movie marathons. Seeing these on the shelf at Blockbuster was as much a sign of Halloween as Santa in the department store window was a sign of Christmas. Tim Burton's early films and aesthetic are intrinsically tied to this subgenre, but the selection is much larger than that. Share your favorites.

The Romero Trilogy. I specially like Day of the Dead. The Return of the Living Dead is a good one too. How are the sequels? I've never seen them.
>>65 >The Return of the Living Dead is a good one too. How are the sequels? I've never seen them. Return of the Living Dead II is great maybe even better than the first. All of the further sequels really aren't worth your time. The remake to Night of the Living Dead is a solid movie too.

>>65 Along the same lines, you can't go wrong with any of the Evil Deads. Especially the later ones as they transitioned away from pure horror. >>66 The 2004 Day of the Dead remake is fine, too. But it doesn't fit the aesthetic and isn't really a good remake. Just a desperate attempt to modernize the series.
>>70 The positive thing about the "remake" is that it's a lot more based in somewhat actual science rather than purely supernatural resurrected corpses like the original movie. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=V1emmJySM2U
>>71 >a lot more based in somewhat actual science rather than purely supernatural resurrected corpses I'm not sure that's actually a good thing when it comes to zombie movies. Mostly because it ends up causing more questions than it answers.
>>72 Zombie movies always do.
>>57 Might as well revive an old thread. Curious about anyone's thoughts on Ernest Scared Stupid. I know of the Ernest series in general, but I never watched any of them. But how is Scared Stupid as a Halloween film? Is it good? Would it be worth a recommendation for the month of October?
>>1435 Oh I really like it. Possibly the best of the "Big 4" Ernest movies. It would definitely be a good October pick. Actual spoiler> Some of the trolls are actually remolded Killer Klowns.
>>1435 Im a big fan personally. Pretty good.
>>1437 Someone told me that fact. It was actually part of the reason I was so curious. >>1438 Thanks for the input. If two separate anons say it's good, I'll have to put it down as my October pick.
I enjoy Monster House. It's a comfy fall movie.

My (female) cousins loved this shit growing up and it comes back to me every so often around this time of year. All I remember is there's one witch with her tits out all the time. Disney feminist propaganda? Likely. Maybe that's the real reason why it should be categorized as a Halloween/horror movie. Apparently there was a sequel released three days ago. I can only imagine how hard that craps the bed.
>>1462 >All I remember is there's one witch with her tits out all the time. Disney feminist propaganda? Likely. Not really. The witches are bona fide satan worshiping, child sacrificing, evil witches. There's no ambiguity that they're villains. The movie starts out with them sucking the soul out of a little girl and killing her. It's just that they're goofy and retarded, or at least two of them are.
>>1474 Ahh, so (((Disney))) then. Since I really don't remember the movie well, how does it hold up? Decent family film?
>>1477 It's a pretty good movie. The villains are threatening but not too overly frightening for younger kids. Maybe combine it with the two Mr. Boogedy movies for a family Halloween movie night.

Man I love the House on Haunted Hill. The plot makes absolutely zero sense but the atmosphere and Price's acting is top notch.
>>1500 It's a great Vincent Price flick, highly recommend.
