Do you think they'll give us a spin off that doesn't suck? Next avatar is Earth so it should be good.
Oh no... ""WHY?"" What other wordly beings have we offended to deserve this? https://archive.ph/M8bHg Avatar: The Last Airbender Trailer: Can Aang Save the World? "" Watch Aang in action — and find out everything you need to know about the live-action series.""
>>38577 Oh way... That's how I bold text...
>>38577 Slowpoke.
>>38564 >lightning bending being common I actually liked that part and wished they could have explored it more. The way I imagine it, and this is me doing the work of the authors, is that up until Aang, lightning bending was a secret technique reserved for the royal family. Information was limited, and there was only one way of doing it, the traditional way. When Zuko became Fire Lord, either as a fuck you to his sister, or because he saw value in spreading information, he made the technique's learning process public knowledge. Some peasant looked at it and said "Fuck this shit, I am not doing all that" so he developed his own lightning bending that was a shitty version of the original, but anyone could learn it. So he made a dojo, taught everyone, including kids, some died because it was a shitty and dangerous, until someone came and said "Holy shit, this is fucking insane! You should do this instead", so he makes a new way of doing lightning bending that is safer and a bit more powerful. So by the time of Korra, you had like 7 different schools of lightning bending all with their pros and cons, there are conferences, books written, and so on. It could have been a plot point, that in season 1, Mako only knew the shittiest version, but by season 4 after traveling with Korra for so long, and seeing all the other lightning masters, he develops his new style that is actually better than the traditional one. The idea would be to show how the spread of information, helped revolutionize techniques and empower the people. Of course this is not what we got, instead we got them uaing lightning to power generators.
>>38589 Anon, there are few problems with that idea. The first is that you're assuming that Zuko mastered lightning bending. Granted, he did become a more powerful firebender after visiting the dragons and learning the true meaning of the art, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he every actually managed to pull it off lightning bending. Even during the follow-up comics and LoK, he's never shown actually doing it, so we can only assume that he never mastered the art despite all his knowledge and skills. Which brings us to the second problem. Lightning bending is an advanced technique of firebending. Meaning that you cannot understand lighting bending without already being some level of a master in firebending. That's on top of the fact that lightning bending is such a difficult technique that even someone who's an absolute master of it still cannot use it (Referring to Zuko here). So this creates the problem of how it is possible for lightning bending, a technique that's so difficult that the Fire Lord's own son (Who's armed with the knowledge of the martial art's origin and history, and mentored by the most powerful firebenders on the planet) cannot do it, become so widespread that it's considered low-paying blue collar labor? This brings us to the third problem which is, how is it possible for advanced techniques of bending to be shortcut, yet we don't see the same happen with regular bending? If benders learned ways to shortcut lightning, metal, and blood bending, then it follows to reason that they also found ways to shortcut earth, fire, water, and air bending. Yet we don't see this happening. And this is actually the biggest problem with this theory as it would have been a neat idea for a plot point. Where the bending arts have been so degraded over the past century of industrialization that all we see are facsimiles or imitions or traditional schools of bending. Or even bending schools strictly created for the sole purposes of training people to compete in Pro-Bending tournaments (A plot point that never becomes relevant again after the first season, except in the video game), but have almost zero practicality outside of those tournaments. Then along comes Korra, who's been trained by masters of the old schools and wipes the floor with everyone as she knows the proper forms and methods (After being trained all those years by the White Lotus). Like I said, would have been a neat idea had they actually done it, and went all the way with it. However they (The writers) never actually confirm, nor deny, that this is the case, so it doesn't matter how good of an idea it is because it's just speculating over nothing except the writers' poor ability to tell a story.
>>38591 Spot on.
>>38591 I never assumed Zuko knew how to lightning bend, only that he mass-printed the instruction book on how to lightning bend, and that some genius peasant, looked at it, didn't care about "muh tradition" and just found a quick and dirty way to do lightning bending. In my theory, lightning bending is such a hard to learn technique because they used the most inefficient way to teach someone how to do it. If there was ever a noble who tried to deviate from the steps he would get scolded for it, for fooling around, and that he needs to do it "the proper way". In this theoretical Korra setting, I would focus on two things, how access to information made previously hard to master techniques easy to do, and that by having all the benders be in the same city, they made so many shortcuts that everything is now kickboxing. Everyone just fire/water/earth/metal/lightning punches, no more flailing around like a retard, everyone is using the least amount of movements. It looks boring and shitty, but it does it's job and even more people can bend now. Fuck the moon, fuck the dragons, they didn't know shit and humanity was held back by copying them. It would kinda be like how today we have MMA fighters beating so called grandmasters in Traditional Martial Arts, or like that one average MMA fighter in China beating all the Thai Chi masters. Imitating a praying mantis, or a tiger or a monkey would simply get you punched in the face by a boxer. Yeah, an Avatar can beat them, but that's just because he can use paper against someone who can only use rock. In this environment, you would get a conflict between traditionalists and new benders. What does it mean to be an earth bender (from a cultural perspective) if you use the same techniques (punching) as a water bender? How would an Avatar who was only taught traditional bending react in a world of kickboxers? Korra kind of alluded to that in Season 1, but never really did anything with the idea.
>>38597 >It would kinda be like how today we have MMA fighters beating so called grandmasters in Traditional Martial Arts, or like that one average MMA fighter in China beating all the Thai Chi masters. Imitating a praying mantis, or a tiger or a monkey would simply get you punched in the face by a boxer. Anon, that's a really bad example when 'anything related to Chinese culture and traditions has either been destroyed, diluted, or subverted by the CCP for the past 80 years. And the only surviving remnants of it is in Taiwan and Singapore. Hell, even the Japanese have done a better job preserving traditional Chinese beliefs and customs. However I guess that can also play into how you have these "new school" masters trying to brainwash the masses that dragons, badger-moles, and the moon are "Keeping them down" when those traditions exist for a reason.

One thing has bothered me from the start: how come Zuko's face was burned so badly that it it permanently scarred, yet his eye seems to be functioning just fine? You would think heat this strong to scar the skin would also boil the eyeball.
>>38599 You can find images of plenty of facial burn victims with severe scarring, but their eyes are still intact. Eyes are mostly water, more so than skin, so they won't burn as easily and humans usually reflexively close their eyes and shield with their hands if they see an object (or blast of fire in this case) heading towards their face at high speed which helps mitigate injury. Also worth noting both AtLA and LoK are full of bending not causing severe injury despite the way it's used. Throwing around water, rocks, and air blasts as shown throughout the show should be potentially causing heavy bruises and broken bones at least. Fire bending should have the danger of severely burning someone when fighting and anyone taking a fire blast to the face while inhaling is possibly going to have some lung damage. They at least acknowledge that fire bending is dangerous when Aang accidentally burns Katara when first using it and lightningbending can stop someone's heart. It can probably be handwaved that it's possible to effectively "pull punches" with bending so as not to cause too much injury. Notably there a some fanfics out there where Zuko's injuries from the Agni Ki leave him permanently partially or completely blind. Some even have him learning to use Firebending to see with what is basically heat vision to compensate similar to how Toph uses Earthbending to see through the ground.
Lift ""NOW!"" You have food, water, and a solid floor therefore you've got ""NO"" excuse not to exercise. In an ideal world were all the hack writers are fired and the original talented writers are somehow convinced to come back I'd like a slice of life series about Iroh just doing Iroh things in his tea shop honestly, that would be pretty comfy. That or Toph's journey to becoming a professional fighter before meeting Ange. Yeah let's keep thinking about nice things we want from this series that we're never getting in this god forsaken earth.
>>38649 I fucked up bold texting again... Doesn't help that I post on multiple image boards/sites/'chans' in all fairness so please don't bully me....
>>38649 Honestly I was always a bit perplexed Iroh could get that jacked in prison. We only see him being given prison rations of bread and white rice That's not really good a good diet for getting fit and building muscle. My best guess is Iroh was already pretty muscular for his age and most of the exercise in prison was losing excess weight. Still seems like he would actually be losing muscle eating nothing but white rice and bread.

>https://discussingfilm.net/2024/02/22/avatar-the-last-airbender-review-netflixs-adaptation-is-like-the-ember-island-players-but-worse/ Got this review linked to me by a friend and if it's right, it looks like the Netflix Avatar is basically what everyone expected. Not that surprising, but interesting enough, I guess.
>>38605 Maybe benders have some resistance to injury from elemental damage as long as they've got their ki raised. That's a pretty common martial arts trope anyway. >>38751 >Rule 63 Toph Oh no this is going to aggravate my chronic shotacon condition something fierce.

>>38776 There are so many things wrong with this. Exposition dumps, lore rapes and outright adding things. Bryke wrote eps 1 and 6 before leaving the project. Okay, eps 1 goes about as well as you think it does. Ep 2 is Kyoshi Warriors, except Aang channels Kyoshi to fend of Zhao and Zuko. Ep 3 and 4 is a two part in Omashu, combing jet and The Mechanist and Teo. It's just a jumble. The Omashu lore is sapphic now because Netflix. Eps 5 and 6 deal with the Spirit World and are the most egregious. Wan-Shi shows up for no reason and Yue is a fox spirit now? Then Roku talks about The Mother of Faces, something shitty from the Korra comics that saved Ursa. Eps 7 and 8 are the siege in the north, except the Northern Water Tribe city is called Agna Qel'a, from the Kyoshi comics. The best review I found was of this: https://archive.is/qXPFI >"...At best, the show serves as a constant reminder of how amazing the original Nickelodeon cartoon was. At worst, it makes M. Night Shyamalan‘s 2010 The Last Airbender film feel like a mercy because at least that poor effort was only 2 hours long." Gyatso's actor is pretty good, Iroh takes a bit to get use to but I was slowly coming around. Suki is the best looking female, 8/10 easy. E;R also says he's going to work on a video of tihs. https://nitter.mint.lgbt/EsemicolonR/status/1761080882230669466#m

>>38777 This is Azula, Mei and Ty Lee. That's it. This whole thing feels like Ember Island Players but Unironic. I don't wanna go into all the missing lore, like how Zhao was character assassinated so Azula can show up in Book One, how Wan Shi was in Heibai's episode instead of his Library which isn't mentioned, how the Northan Air Temple didn't appear, how the avatars need statues for Aang to talk to them now instead of just calling upon them, how Kyoshi had a bigger influence over Aang than Roku, how Netflix raceswapped Kurruk's wife Ummi or how they pushed female water benders in the North, how the whole of eps 7 and 8 was MUH TRADITION BAD look to the future. Again, this series is a mess. It couldn't even tell the simple story of ATLA, it had to borrow elements from everywhere and the end result is a series that's as confused as it's viewers are.

>>38776 Absolutely destroys the connection with Aang & Katara beginning their romance through the story of the lovers. >>38777 Aang channeling Kyoshi would be fine if it didn't take away from giving attention to Roku. The previous Avatar & the one who's failure to stop Sozin led the world to this state. >sapphic Never say that word again. Do not use their language. They're lesbians. Dykes. It's stupid enough already without pandering to these stupid PC terms like sapphic or wlw. The Mother of Faces is from the ATLA comic set right after the series about Ursa. There's absolutely no need to bring that or Wan Shi Tong into the story at this point. >>38778 >Mai, Ty Lee, & Azula are practically interchangeable down to their chubby faces, fat noses, & clothing They didn't even try to cast good looking actresses. Much less just actresses who can act.
>>38780 I would rather they have not brought the Mother of Faces in at all, the comics suck.
>>38751 This picture makes it abundantly clear that Katara is an insufferable cunt with a Napoleon complex.

>>38790 Funny you should mention that, Bumi is played by a Canadian actor of Indian descent. The Earth Kingdom seems to be a Punjab kingdom now instead of Han Chinese.
>>38782 Yes. >>38791 That's dumb.
Oh good lord. Imagine they make all of the Earth Kingdom indians now. Toph will get hit the hardest.
>>38800 I saw random white and black guys as background characters, it's entirely likely we might get black or white Toph.
>>38801 You know it won't ever be white. Especially not after Sokka's actor was revealed to not actually be native. They're gonna triple down on pointless diversity.
>>38802 True, they proved that by changing the Omashu founding story so that they were lesbians and replacing Roku's role in S1 with Kiyoshi.
>>38810 <Just roll over and die, goym! No.
>>38822 Wrong question, defeatist kike. Why should someone let shit like that spread?
