Diabolik Anonymous 12/15/2021 (Wed) 11:46:14 No. 21167
Does anyone actually remember it. It got a movie or something this year. I've only had seen the first few episodes. Did anyone watch or read it more then that?
Well its Italian so probably not, though that one Anon that reads a lot of Euro comics probably does.

>>21167 I watched it as a kid when it aired on Jetix. The only thing I remember is the low-budget/cheap looking the animation was.

>>21199 >>21167 Diabolik comics are not easy to find in English. There are only a couple tomes translated and they were published decades ago. You will have more luck if you speak Dutch, Serbo-Croatian, or French but again, only a relatively small amount of them was translated. It's a shame as comic seems interesting. A nice mixture of Arsene Lupin, 60s era capers, with a dash of Fantomas. It even spawned a whole genre of fumetti neri comics in Italy. I do not know why Italian comic book publishers are not more proactive in publishing their work abroad. French started doing so not long ago, and it seems to be working pretty well for them. Movie was released few days ago, but imdb ratings are middling. It's a shame. Film visuals looked nice in the trailer, it clearly had a budget, and retro 60s vibe was pretty nice too. Leading lady is easy on the eyes too. I will give it a watch once (if?) English subtitles are available.
>>21368 She looks like a pornstar.
>>21372 Right, but in a good way. Like at the start of her career before the jews throw her to the blacks to devour.
>>21368 Italian comics are really impossibile to find translate officially to English. Other European languages tho it's pretty easy Dylan dog, diabolik, strumtruppen,MM mickey mystery, paperinik, rat-man, zero calcare, dampyr, Alan Ford, Nick Carter.... there are so many good gems that If I could find scans online i would translate just to share with my /co/mrade the good quality of pasta comics. I'm pretty sure the only big Italian comic name that got fully translated is Tex
>>21428 >Italian comics are really impossible to find translate officially to English. It's strange that Italians do try to get their stories to other markets. Even Dutch, Danes, and Poles translate at least some of their books to English and other languages on their own initiative. I have no idea why Italians do not bother unless foreigners interested in licensing come knocking at their door. I am interested in European comics and have been thinking of learning Italian rather than French just for this reason. Given the amount of translation of french books in last few years, BD publishers might be trying to repeat manga's success. It seems to be working since now even Image is experimenting with printing physical versions of European comics. >Dylan dog, diabolik, strumtruppen,MM mickey mystery, paperinik, rat-man, zero calcare, dampyr, Alan Ford, Nick Carter.... there are so many good gems that If I could find scans online i would translate just to share with my /co/mrade the good quality of pasta comics. It would be nice, but keep in mind that scanlating takes good amount of effort. Scans in Italian are out there on libgen and other sites actually. It looks like most of Diabolik is out there, but others can be a mixed bag. >I'm pretty sure the only big Italian comic name that got fully translated is Tex Dylan Dog has some books translated to English, Dhampir had first two volumes translated, and RanXerox was published in Heavy Metal. Papernik was scanlated to English.

>>21555 I'm a pastafag so translation is relative easy to do it. I'm just missing the actual scan toif you can share those site I'm gonna start doing some. Tried to Google them and found nothing for libgen Dylan dog has only like 1/3 of the books translated, they arrived till 800 and then rebooted to keep going, so it's missing an enormous chunk of stories, dampyr same... I didn't know that paperinik got translated, that's good I liked him, but not as much as MM
>>21686 fuck, you just reminded me, wasnt tehre an anon trying to translate some italian cartoon like a year ago?
>>21686 >pastafag so translation is relative easy to do it. I would have a request, and if possible, might even offer some financial payment. I wanted to re-watch the Sandokan cartoon(watched it, when I was a small boy, in my country's dub), found both the english and the italian dub on Youtube, however the english one is horrendous. How hard would it be to create the srt files for the first two seasons of the cartoon? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-gZpUxbyzM&list=PL1dsBDddXnm2SOSqWyUzdneENLML9tcUp I also think there is some historical importance of sharing the original dub, as opposed to the english one, especially since, from what I know, Italians don't have all that many action cartoons.
>>21686 Libgen url is the first result for me in every search engine I tried. Here's a link to Diabolik comics specifically: libgen.li/index.php?req=diabolik&columns%5B%5D=t&columns%5B%5D=a&columns%5B%5D=s&columns%5B%5D=y&columns%5B%5D=p&columns%5B%5D=i&objects%5B%5D=f&objects%5B%5D=e&objects%5B%5D=s&objects%5B%5D=a&objects%5B%5D=p&objects%5B%5D=w&topics%5B%5D=l&topics%5B%5D=c&res=25&covers=on&filesuns=on eurekaddl has a Italian comics too.
>>21368 English subtitles for the live action film are finally out. I gave it a watch and it was entertaining enough, but I am a sucker for heist stories, Lupin, Fantomas, and anything related. The story is a bit basic, but competent enough. Biggest problem is that characters need to make stupid decisions for plot to happen. Diabolik, for example, is pretty sloppy. He has a wife, leaves fingerprints everywhere, his lair is not very well disguised. Batman's setup is much better thought out than Diabolik's. There are some contrived things, like ramp hidden in the road at the very beginning of the film. Putting that thing in there unnoticed would have been difficult, and it would have been discovered during road maintenance work.I also did not not like how quick Diabolik and Eva Kant were to trust each other. Things get silly at points, like the court room scene, but I assume the comedy works much better in Italian. However, the heist at the end is pretty neat, even if it could be orchestrated more efficiently. All expected elements of the genre are there and it manages to avoid some of the annoying cliches. The film had a decent budget and was pretty to look at. Special effects are minimal but look good, there are practical stunts, and there are no attempts at cutting corners and hiding this using shaky cam and jarring, rapid cuts like Marvel films are prone to do. There is the knife throw, but that looks to me more like a stylistic choice to old pulp and 60s crime serials. They used split screen quite a bit, but not in any interesting way. Actors do a good job in my opinion, but not knowing the original language makes it difficult to tell. Diabolik had decent budget.
