Akira Toriyama RIP Anonymous 03/08/2024 (Fri) 03:24:10 No. 38933
>Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, dies at 68. End of an era.
Holy shit, no fucking way. A legend just died today.
>>38935 Well, 7 or 8 days ago based on the actual statement. Whatever, you know what I mean.

>>38933 This is an anime creator but considering his influence in Latin America and DBZ airing along side saturday morning cartoons, it is a shame he's gone. Subdermal Hematoma probably meant diagnosed bloodclot or sudden impact which caused one like a fall. Anyway, RIP.
>>38933 Such an infleuncial artsit. I'll miss him.

RIP Toriyama
That sucks. I think everyone expected Dragon Ball would be formally retired by Nozawa's death, not Toriyama's.
>>38957 They won't retire it. Super's manga is still going.
>>38978 The beauty of being a successful manga artist: >Milking the franchise for what it's worth >Why come out with something new? >Never risk anything, just play it safe <The only thing impossible is to puppeteer the creator's corpse so he could keep on shitting out more crap that sells like hotcakes Don't be surprised if they ditch him into Potter's field (not to be confused with J.K. Rowling's fanfiction)
>>38933 He got both the mexican and black community to their knees without even caring about them, something that no modern western company will ever do.
>>38981 You're describing comic books. Sure successful manga franchises are milked to death but there's literally hundreds of other new titles to pick from. You're not just stuck with Goku. And Dragon Ball is about experimenting. It's hardly ever played it safe beyond the protagonist being the protagonist.
>>38981 Toriyama did try many new things, but none reached the success of Dragon Ball or Doctor Slump. Western audiences forget that he was already a massive success before Dragon Ball. Hell, the Dragon Ball anime took over the timeslot of Doctor Slump immediately after that anime ended. And when Dragon Ball GT ended, a remake of Doctor Slump took its place. Toriyama had an incredibly successful anime on the air for like 18 years. Then he went off to do more passion projects, since he was obviously set for life. But they never hit the same success, though of course with his status it's not like they'd be completely ignored. Then the Americans fucked up Dragon Ball so bad he brought it back just so that fucking movie wouldn't be the last Dragon Ball movie to come out. He realized his creation would be milked forever, even if he wasn't a part of it. But at least he trained a protege who will hopefully guide things more in the way the creator would have intended. >>38984 >You're describing comic books. No, he's describing the life of an artist, not an industry. In comics, one artist doesn't usually get to milk something to death. That artist gets tossed around by the publisher to whatever projects the publisher wants, while the creations the guy made get handed to others who frequently bastardize them. Anon never said anything about not having other manga to choose from. That's irrelevant to the conversation. And Dragon Ball played it very safe, even when Toriyama didn't want to. He wasn't allowed to make 19 and 20 the actual villains of the arc, so he tried to make them more hip with 17 and 18, but that didn't work, so he just went with Cell, a guy who is obviously a whole lot more like Frieza than the villains he originally intended.
>>38985 Except that's not true either because the mangaka own their creations. They have to approve of deals to get their work adapted & used.
>>38986 Your post says nothing that contradicts anything in the post it's replying to.
>>38998 I think you're both nitpickers.
>>39000 I think you're all niggers.
>>39002 Well I think you're a fucking fantastic dude.
