Cartoons that don't deserve a thread Anonymous 09/20/2020 (Sun) 21:00:41 No. 5165
So, I'm watching through this early-2000's series called Alienators: Evolution Continues, and the entire show just feels...off for some reason. I cannot put my finger on why. The show comes across as generic in every way, but even saying that doesn't seem to classify the show properly. You can watch it here to see what I'm talking about: https://invidio.us/playlist?list=PLkLimRXN6NKyhCEvWdWl0Kmab6YefDh6h Has anyone else had this feeling about other series?

>>5165 This is just a thread for shitty action cartoons forgotten by time. Or if you prefer, cartoons Craig has somehow found in his drunken stupors.
>>5166 >This is just a thread for shitty action cartoons Well, it's not a terrible series. It does have some neat ideas, but it just feels like it's...terrible done.
>>5167 All these shows have neat ideas. But they're each different degrees of terrible for different reasons. Not just being overly sanitized/kid friendly. Kids can have good action cartoons. But the bulk of them are just terrible.
>>5166 Hulk Hogan's Rock & Wrestling Chuck Norris Karate Commandos The Rambo cartoon A whole bunch of other stuff from the 80's
>>5182 I'll be honest, I don't like any 80s cartoons. I'm not against making shows to sell toys. Far from it. The issue is the writing & the overload of generic cartoons made about anything. Celebrities, movies usually aimed at older audiences kidified, & just mundane toy idea after another. I wonder if something like GI Joe is to blame for the last one.
>>5165 I remember liking Alienators and the movie it was a spinoff from, Evolution, but I haven't watched either since they were new. Evolution was basically Ivan Reitman trying to remake Ghostbusters without the rest of the people who made Ghostbusters, so naturally, since Ghostbusters lead to a very successful cartoon, Evolution would surely lead to a very successful cartoon as well. Anyway, I remember thinking Evolution was pretty funny, but other than that, all I remember was the alien that climbed in Orlando Jones's asshole, and that the end of the movie was basically a commercial for Head and Shoulders, which I guess was actually successful since it's the only thing I remember 20 years later.
>>5191 Evolution is still a good movie, though rather silly compared to Ghostbusters.

I'm watching Cybersix for the first time, and my god, I didn't realize how much I missed good cartoons. I recently rewatched Venture Bros and Courage the Cowardly Dog, but those are things I've seen before so nostalgia gets in the way of making a proper judgement. I'm only two episodes in, and I haven't enjoyed something new and animated that wasn't anime this much in so long.
>>5256 There was apparently a live action Cybersix series, but it was from Argentina or something and got cancelled super quick and is considered lost media now. I still gotta read the comics anyway. I suppose after I finish those I can allow myself to get autistic about the lost Cybersix media. Even the comics seem confusing to find since they were published in different ways and different languages and just trying to find info about what order to read things in gets me Italians giving info about their out of order reprints instead of the original. If it was simple I'd have read it already.

Little Clowns of Happytown seems like some unintentionally funny potential, although I can't seem to find any full episodes.

Just finished Cybersix. It was nice, but it ended suddenly and too soon. They strongly imply she survived, and with Jose still around and largely impotent against her on his own, I imagine she could extract from him a source of that life sustaining green goo. Happy ending. Except a third of the city was flattened by a giant bottom feeder. I want to FUCK Griselda. I hope she lived.

>>5489 This character just makes me think of something from Ben 10 crossed with a Twi'lek from Star Wars
>>5182 I'm surprised Rambo never collaborated with GI Joe. He'd fit right in.
>>5519 Purely for licensing reasons. Hasbro didn't get the rights to Rambo toys. Rocky was technically in a single issue of GI Joe, though. The toy was cancelled, but too late to block his appearance in the comic. https://gijoe.fandom.com/wiki/Rocky

Doesn't need a thread but F is for Family is getting a 5th and final season sometime in 2021.
>>5704 Does anyone even watch that crap?
>>5704 Looking forward to it. It's very good.
>>5704 >>5705 I watched the first two seasons. In the first one I was just waiting for the dad to put Bill Burr through the fuckin' wall. I wanted something more like George Liquor. By Season 2 he's just a little bitch and the show is boring. Not bothering to watch more.
>>5741 But Bill Burr is the dad.
>>5742 I meant the kid named Bill, who is clearly supposed to be him as a kid. Bill Burr sucks anyway. He's just what SJWs think is edgy, but is always sure to stay inside the lines.
Remind me, some 90's-early 2000's cartoon about a lion king/prince who is sent forward in time by an evil snake sorceress and her army of robots. He is helped by some other animal people with a time machine and they have to find various items of the past, such as an incense burner. The lion's girlfriend is cursed to sleep and he needs to wake her up. I remember this being a thing when I was a kid, but I obviously don't remember the title. I just want to know how the story ended, if it ever did.
>>5704 was this cartoon originally going to be a FOX cartoon (it feels like one) but then the producers heard about Disney buying/owning FOX in the near future, so they decided to put on Netflix instead as a number of people are kinda put off by Disney?

Robotboy was way shittier than I thought. I watched about two episoides a couple months ago and Gus' presence really made the good parts fucking unbearable to watch. Which is a shame 'cause even outside of nostalgia, it'd be something I'd want to give a shot. I'll be honest, though, I may give it another shot one day, 'cause fuck if there are any other cartoons I'm watching. On a different note, has anyone watched The Mighty B or even El Tigre? I fucking loved those when they came out, but I never bothered trying to watch them again. Has anyone done that and could they attest if they're actually as good as I think they are?
>>7968 Just watch MLaaTR instead.
>>7968 I haven't watched them in a while, but if I remember correctly Mighty B is one of these shows that you either love or hate with no middle points. Bessie and a good bunch of the cast are annoying in purpose, so you need to get over that fact in order to enjoy the show and get the jokes.
>>7968 Mighty B is well animated but for the wrong reasons, everything is fluid but for the sake of being annoying rather than a proper meaning, It has far more production value than most modern cartoons but this production value doesn't go to something that isn't try to appeal to really young children. Haven't watched El Tigre, but I remember loving the shit out of it back in the day, I recently watched El Libro de la Vida (from the dame creator of El Tigre) and I liked it a lot so I might give it a try
>>8047 El Tigre had a really good art style.

>>5704 1st and 2nd hit home close because I do know some people who work at airports and they told pretty much nothing has changed. 3rd and 4th really felt like Family Guy shit, but at least its coherent. >>8047 >Mighty B I remember everyone was shitting on that cartoon, hell they even compared her to current Spongebob. The cartoon looks like something John K. would've shit out at the last moment. >Created by a no-name dyke from SNL That explains a lot.

>A second series of 26 episodes was commissioned by CITV, which would've had the CGI sequences animated by Nelvana in Canada. However, because Carrington Productions International was absorbed into Entertainment Rights, the second series didn't get made. >26 scripts that Gerry Anderson wrote before he died have just never been fulfilled. But given how everything is CG these days, maybe that's a good thing. I never knew that there was an S2 in production that just never got made. Some Thomas the Tank Engine autism for ya as well, new series , It's horrible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RZj4UPLIcU The appeal of Thomas, beware actual Autism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZc1ZEwqRC8 And behind the scenes of the original, look at that massive valley they hand craft. >>9298 >"Mighty B porn" >Some crazy, degenerate fuck got a stiffy from looking at (presumably) Bessie >he even (presumably) made art of her getting dicked down I have to wonder just how much of that is unironic fap material and how much of that is only made to make people asshurt and go apeshit.
>>7968 Robotboy is everything wrong about the 2000s condensed into one show. Gus was unbearable even as a pre teen, I'd probably claw my eyes out nowadays if I had to put up with that shit. If you're going to make him an annoying cunt at least make the fat fucker likeable.
>>9303 There's a difference?

>>5165 >Alienators: Evolution Continues, and the entire show just feels...off for some reason. I cannot put my finger on why. I'm a little late to the party, but... 1. Evolution wasn't that great a movie. Orlando Jones was great, and Three Named Teen Movie Actor was fun, but Agent Mulder and Bitchy Von Redhead were obviously phoning it in. I think they were going for Ghostbusters but it came off as more like Ghostbusters II 2. The cartoon was an attempt to capitalize on the success of the movie (which wasn't a success) and to take advantage of the craze of movie-based cartoons (like the one based on the American attempt of Godzilla in 1998, which was horrible). Finally, I think they were going for The Real Ghostbusters, but it came off more as Extreme Ghostbusters. It was unwatchable, and their Slimer ripoff based on the three-eyed smiley face was blatant.
>>9453 >movie-based cartoons (like the one based on the American attempt of Godzilla in 1998, which was horrible). I know you mean that the movie was horrible, but the cartoon based on it was actually very good.
Just wanted to make a quick note about Raya and the Dragon, it's an obvious chinese movie by disney with a female protagonist. Thing is people in South East Asia, who were marketed to by this movie can't even watch it as Disney+ isn't even in their area. Kelly Marie Tran is also doing more voice acting, cause she voices the main I think and also a character in Croods 2. Guess she fills that niche of young asian voice actor they need. Also speaking of trends of disappointing sequels that had females as the main focus, Lego Movie 2, Incredibles 2, Wreck it Ralph 2 and Croods 2.

>>10077 Know one group of people who will make art out of this. >Con-baby. This is someone's fanfic. Or a wuxia setting with the shittiest DM ever. This script is so dumb, it's not the contrivances, it's the lack of intelligence. Fugging White Snake had snake demon loses memory, finds boy, meets up with half-sister (Who's weirdly into her, like more than siblings) she starts to rage blah blah blah kind of a happy ending. Story isn't the best but at least it tries. Here, oh god... it's just plodding along with no serious events impacting the story. >Use con-baby to break into house. >Shishu? gets tricked and thrown at dark monster. >Chief says, "You tell me where other gem pieces are, or you get turned to stone." >Ignoring the fact the Chief HEARD Shishu say they had other pieces. >Why would you throw away your only lead and risk them being turned into Stone, you know, so they can't tell you any fucking thing. This is the level of stupidity of this movie. If it were any other curse, it'd be fine but the fact she'd be stone and therefore unable to say anything makes the threat useless. If I was Raya in this Lone Wolf and Cub situation, I'd kill the two kids she's picked up already and reap a path towards those gems. I know it's Murder Hoboish but still, much better plot. Also what is it with Disney and shaved heads? I saw a random episode of the last bit of clone wars and there were 2 sisters, shocker, with shaved heads as well. It's like aposematism but without color.

>>10079 >Subsequent to Crazy Rich Asians, Adele has been recruited by Disney to develop an animated feature film Raya and the Last Dragon. >Qui Nguyen is a Vietnamese American playwright, television writer, and screenwriter.[ So Crazy rich asians writer and Diane try to write an asian movie, absolutely fail in basic fucking themes and as a surprise, it sucks. Both females are also flat, no one is over a B cup. Typical Disney. >I'm taking the dragon. >Shishu says to Raya trust me. >After being backstabbed. >After being repeatably attacked. >After they didn't leave her in Spine to easily get the last piece. >After she says "I don't have a choice." Urgh, the heroes are doing the high and mighty thing in we'll show that our goals and values are better than Fangs, who are... nothing. But it's such a fucking handicap to people that have turned to stone. If Raya were more bloodthirsty, she could free people and put down Fang. This living harmoniously BS doesn't work when the stakes are the end of life as we know it. >“Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls, and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer.” Replace ash with stone and trillion with a few dozen. That's your answer. >But muh Wuxia This is a Disney film, so of course they're going to saccharine it up but to this degree is too much for me. HAHAHA, she shot Shishu. Hahaha. There goes your final hope. People should be sad and dramatic over this. But fug is it funny to me. >The dragon goes so does the water. Contrived. Even 12 Kingdoms is better. Hey. >Can you post a better east asian setting that has a female protag with better hair, better fantastical monsters and actually has a sensible plot and no modern fucking themes? >Hurr Durr it's your fault. This plot is so pedestrian you could install a crosswalk on it. The mist monsters are also contrived writer drama points because they don't follow any rules on on how they infect. They just seem to do it always. >The magic rocks isn't powered by magic that Shishu used, it's Trust instead. When the dragons offered up their magic, they trusted Shishu with it. It's not magic, it's Trust. This is Pre-school level BS. Like, seriously. >Raya gives up her stone. It's not even a moment of self sacrifice, it's just stupid. >Hey, is there another Disney heroine in a better animated film that gave up her stone to save her friends/people/culture? The 4k of Atlantis is *Italian chef kiss*. Level of detail still holds up today and makes me sad that Disney only produce heroine focused movies now instead of actual adventure pieces that might not have made back money but god damn were they original. >They all trust dragonslayer with the rocks, she puts them back together again but also gets turned to stone. >>10083 Dragons come back, they revive Shishu, world united, happy end. Yayyyy. Except they use Dragon magic for that, not Trust. Urgh, god this movie is bad. >"Another gorgeously animated, skillfully voiced entry in the Disney canon, Raya and the Last Dragon continues the studio's increased representation while reaffirming that its classic formula is just as reliable as ever. >The film was criticized for the lack of Southeast Asian representation in the cast, as the film's setting is set in a fictional land that represents Southeast Asia. Most of the cast are of East Asian heritage, with the exception of K. Tran, Butler, T. Tran, Wang and Harrison. The film's theme song "Lead the Way" is performed by Aiko, who is also East Asian and of Japanese descent. Diversity first, story second. God it's fucken pedantic. Urgh, that was horrible, not as bad as Moana but almost as worst was Wreck it Ralph 2. Don't watch, please. Don't. Save yourself this bad product I implore you and watch White Snake instead, that has an actual story and haughty demon loli.
>>10078 Actually that's another Disney thing with recent movies, why no serious resistance for their heroines? Atlantis has Milo rescuing Kida inside a damn volcano, Treasure Planet has the finding the treasure but when escaping after the trap goes off. Tangled, evil step mother, (Which ironically has more of a self sacrifice from Flynn after he cuts her hair that could save him than Raya in this movie). Frozen, twist villian. Moana? volcano god thing? Don't remember. Here? negative energy that makes people stone for some reason. The lack of a proper threat for their heroines to overcome doesn't make them worthy. It's the Mary-Sue traits all over again, because modern Disney heroines can never lose, they always jump over the lowest hurdles they can.
>>10085 >why no serious resistance for their heroines? >>9465 The cartoon was decent, but the premise was broken from the beginning. If Godzilla-spawn were capable of imprinting on the first thing they saw when hatching, then Matthew Broderick should have had an army of nuke-raptors at his command. Also, there's the little problem of Zilla 2.0 ALSO being a hermaphrodite capable of impregnating and laying dozens of its eggs all over the place. Earth should have been lousy with feral kaiju every bit Zilla Jr's equal. Plus, and this is just the /pol/ack in me, I suppose, I got sick and fucking tired of the token black continually making fun of the clumsy smart white guy.

>According to an interview with IndieWire, the "Wolf Vision" scenes were pre-visualized and built in a virtual reality environment. Rather than simply keeping those scenes to the virtual reality engine, the animators printed out the 3D model frame-by-frame and re-animated all of it on paper with charcoal and pencil. This gives the scenes a uniquely three-dimensional feel while still being hand-drawn. Dedi-fugging-cation. Disney wished it still had animators this good.
>>14413 it's not only the good animators but they are still experimenting with the medium. This is something that sadly most big animation companies had set aside, they don't experiment with modern technology to make easier and cheaper the same stuff that decades ago would cost you a lot of money and experienced people. I'm looking forward to what Saloon and Moore are planning for the future.

>>14537 I think alot of hand drawing animation talent has died out.
>>14556 >I think alot of hand drawing animation talent has died out. Correction it wasn't just hand drawing talent dying, it was the purposeful destruction of the apprenticeship systems that allowed senior animators to train alot of junior animators on the job. Consider for instance the talents that worked in a jobber shop like filmation for instance like Paul Dini. Local jobber shops got various artists together got them trained under deadline to build up skill and speed. Today Cal arts became a joint to scoop up disjointed artists that have a lot less discipline and talent because they weren't jobbing with older talent.
This is more of a question: are there any current year cartoonists or cartoon animators that still embrace lewd fanart of their work?
>>14647 And it's not as if they can't find said talented artists that can animate true to the original. Even Arthur retained its original animation style from 1994 to 2012. But modernization must sadly be a thing.
>>14657 At this point I imagine most current year cartoonists have made lewd fantart
>>14647 >Paul Dini He's a writer, not an animator. John K. and Bruce Timm worked for Filmation.

I was watching a youtuber talk about obscure transformers stuff and he brought up animated a couple of times. Said he liked it, studio or whoever is behind it doesn't seem to be supportive of it, may or may not get a fourth season. Decide to check it out; it's quite bad.
>>14692 I don't think this show is obscure at all. If he wanted to talk about obscure Transformers show, any of the Japanese ones that have never been localized, as well as Car Robots, would be much less talked about. Also Rescue Bots. Or just any Transformers things that aren't cartoons. Anyway I never watched it even though it was super popular because the designs all pissed me off. I can accept Optimus as a trukk or a munkey but not as a Jay Leno. Also, his vehicle form still looks like a space vehicle, as do some of the others, so I don't buy he's in disguise at all. Also, while I never watched it at the time, looking back in retrospect, seeing the main character is an indian girl doesn't fill me with hope that it doesn't have proto-sjw shit going on. The humans were always awful in Transformers anyway, and I just want more shows with no stupid humans. The cavemen from Beast Wars were the closest they ever got to not being awful, and they were barely human in the first place. Just like the one from Animated, I suppose.
>>14692 It honestly got better later on when it was revealed thatSari was a hybrid cybertronian/human because her father touched a protoform he found in his lab, which used his DNA to turn into a baby. Also I thought the Weird Al episode was fun.
I suppose Thundercats Roar
>>5182 >Chuck Norris Karate Commandos Here's a fun little game. Watch the intro for that show, take a shot of hard vodka every time they say the words Chuck Norris.

How was that one movie called. It had like a ginger ass faggot as the main character as the mc also he was kind of trickster I think, there was an owl there too and I think also another character which I don't remember much from

Season 5 came out like 3 weeks ago and I completely missed it. Netflix put a trailer up like a week before release. Anyway, 8 eps, comments tell ending is abrupt but satisfying.

>>21272 Kinda wish Vic had found a way to bond with Frank with his newfound miserable existence as a dad. Perfect opportunity to find the friendship he never could while living the high life.
(415.17 KB 522x451 Screenshot.png)

>>21316 I think they found out it was the last season late in the day, because you can tell some plotlines were being set in place, like Kevin using one of Smokey's sabotaged rubbers on his jewess and Sue finally finding her get rich quick scheme as a teacher to the stoned out accidental parents of the 70s. I guess they decided there had been enough evil and to just give the Murphys the slightly happy ending we wanted to see. Vic believed in Sue and her teachings, so I'm sure he embraced it all and became father of the year, although part of me kept waiting for the kid to do something that was reminiscent of Kevin, given that he tapped that blonde bimbo as well. As for bonding with Frank, you can see Frank start to very slowly warm to Vic all through the series, so I think it's safe to say they became good friends once Vic was completely sober and started being more responsible... and Frank decided to lighten up a bit. It's all head-canon, but I think it's a reasonable assumption, given where both of them were in the finale. On a personal note, I've been caring for elderly parents who are still mostly with it, but are having bad days where all sorts of crazy crap can happen. Frank's desperate search for (and understanding of) "Box 16" was oddly comforting considering what I was going through the week I watched it. I felt like someone understood what I was going through with my own parents.
>>13810 >>13823 I think the melancholy in his expression is that he knows he likely doesn't live up the expectations that his younger self had. Regardless of if you ad on positive or negative values, Harold probably doesn't know at this point in his life that he will end up gay, and this would likely be a shock for him especially if he doesn't realize this for a while, and Old Harold likely realize this will be confusing for his younger self.
(1.90 MB 316x213 jew larry david meh.gif)

>>21367 Old Harold is more likely considering whether or not to step in and save his younger self from the grooming and rape that will convert him into a homosexual.
So, I just remembered that this cartoon was a thing.
>>28699 they tried a 3D revival some years ago. Then never heard of it again
(1.01 MB 1139x476 el tigre villains.png)

>>8047 >>8090 El tigre is actually pretty good for a western kids cartoon, not only does it have cool mexican wrestler aesthethics mixed with aztec shit, but the show was about many being neither good nor evil.
>>21313 It really felt like a mockumentary of the 70s than a Simpsons clone, did they mention what happened to Vince Vaughn's character?
(115.21 KB 640x472 laugh ronald reagan.jpg)

>>21313 >Uncle Lewis is gay in 1975. That show, if nothing else, gave me some A+ homoslurs. >"Isn't Uncle Lewis a pickle-sniffer?" >"NO! He's a 'fancy man!'" My favorite arc was Frank's dad's "Box 16." Watching Frank go insane trying to find meaning in a psychopath hoarder's boxes of shit was way funnier than it should have been, especially when he finally finds out what box 16 really was and finally realizes that his dad was a sick piece of shit and if he kept letting his dad play mindgames from beyond the grave, he'd never be free of the old bastard. I also enjoyed Kevin's hatecrimes against the jews
>>28763 >about many being neither good nor evil. Ah yes, the so-called True Neutral so often talked about in D&D. They don't exist. Everyone is one or the other, anon. If you think otherwise, you're obviously one of the evil ones.

>>29271 Is it any good?
>>29314 NTA but it disturbed me enough.
I don't know what any of this means.
>>29317 Like there's the obvious references to Roy but I think this may go deeper than just a critique on children's television having a negative bias teaching children the wrong things. Shame there's not enough anons here to really make theory crafting a viable option.
>>29319 It increasingly looks like nothing but theory channel bait.
>>29321 That's just the nature of the game. Whether it has an actual point or not is up in the air till more is made.
I would honestly watch the marvels what if...? Doing a Transformers crossover.
(276.18 KB 1920x1080 mpv-shot0001.jpg)

>>29317 >>29318 >>29321 The best that I could describe it is simply the spiritual successor to Wonder Showzen, although it's more accessible for theory e-celebs and teens. The show is aware that every episode always ends up back to where it began. Regardless of themes, I hope it gets another season; it was funny to see the sequences unfold throughout with a better budget and designs.
>>29330 Yeah it's very technically impressive if anything for being a existential horror with puppets. It's obviously not for everyone though & I don't knock people for writing it off if they don't find intentionally speculative media interesting.

>>33535 Man what the fuck was up with Mendoza? I recall some bits of it but none of the episodes made any relative sense.
>>33551 It's based on an one off Dark Horse adult comic and I'm pretty sure the creators were baked throughout most of it. They sold it off to CN Europe who launched it on Europe only for some reason at a really late timeslot for kids.
