Western art style gets a bad rap due to the poor quality put out there. So lets fix that by embracing that Git Gud attitude and encourage our fellow supporters where they need it. Post any tutorial regarding styles relatable to the animated shows we know. You may also post tutorials on animation and comics as well to help broaden the thread. Let us hope we can bake better cake eventually. Found this and I think It belongs here
i haven't tried this, but i've seen it recommended on other places for people who want to learn and practice drawing: Draw A Box (free, i think) - https://drawabox.com >>405 never seen that before. cute and simple!
I would like to mention another free draw and paint program: Medibang Paint https://medibangpaint.com/en/ Available for Windows, Mac, iPad and Android. There is also a manga style version called Jump Paint. The program has many artist tools plus tools for making comics (panels, etc.).
>>526 ah, it was on /loomis/ that i saw that site listed. here is actually a bunch of links and resources they assembled for anyone interested in developing their art skills: /loomis/ resource hub - https://web.archive.org/web/20190721220321/https://8ch.net/loomis/hub.html

The Munsell color system , It helped me tremendously under standing color. here's a website that explains it. http://www.applepainter.com/Forward/
>>149 >Gimp (The alternative to Photoshop) This meme needs to end already
>>1467 How about Gimp (A broke man's Photoshop)
>>149 You should add paint.NET as well.
>>149 I mean it's true, most western cartoons have god awful artstyles. Only a few look pleasing to the eye.
There is no singular 'Western' art style. Cal Arts gets shit because it is shit.
>>1864 Tell me about it, most of the early stuff here is unbearable.
>>1864 Cal arts is fine. It's just retarded tasteless weebs that bitch.
Pixiv fanbox
Is it alright if I dump a bunch of sketches I found that are meant to be used as references and maybe some that are not, but could still work for that? I know they're not really tutorials, but I'm sure they'd be helpful.
>>1864 You do know that Genndy Tartakovsky is a Cal Arts alumni, right?
>>2770 One looks like a cartoon and the other looks like Anime.
>>2814 Cartoons/western animation is ugly because art schools don't mandate drawing from life in their curriculum or even offer it. Western art academia has gone down the toilet and common sensibilities in the west are geared towards ugliness and exaggeration.
>>3050 This board was made as being cartoon- friendly.
>>3050 "drawing from life" isn't an option for this art style
>>3567 Drawing from life improves your ability to draw from imagination if you pay attention to anatomy and how the body is constructed.
>>3673 Plenty of people who make cartoons don't know how to draw.
>>4160 >how to draw That seems to be really subjective in this matter.
>>149 I'll play this song for this thread. https://youtu.be/ZD71JeX4Vk0
>>4959 The sentiment of this is probably closer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5KxZ5Lc_YA
>>4160 I have been drawing for 12 years and I have never made a single good drawing.
How to have two different art styles or similar art style but different features like strokes or coloring?
>>5967 You have to practice. With great effort you will be able to forge any style, thus hiding your own so nothing gets linked back to you.
Hey GNU/Loonix users out there, AzPainter is a pretty good PaintTool SAI-like painting program. For Arch it's on the AUR, for other distros I'm not sure.
>>149 Ok, sir, but I'm gonna need sauce on that Alice artist.
>>8362 Jabs; though I believe you can find a better version out there.

>>149 >So lets fix that by embracing that Git Gud attitude and encourage our fellow supporters where they need it. You could fix that by learning a eastern artstyle.
Anyone knows about any good pose and reference books?
>>9843 i think i might be retarded, how am i supposed to use these?
>>9843 Thank You anon!!
>>9852 READ NIGGA READ! unironically, they are ment to guide you into how you should do stuff. Not as a "read all of them and you'll draw better", more of a "ah, youre having trouble there? See, just follow they way i do it and you should be able to do it on your own now"
Every time I try to draw a nose that's more complex than just two lines it always ends up looking like an ugly pig nose.
(14.56 KB 785x785 nose1.jpg)

(15.75 KB 785x785 nose2.jpg)

(23.83 KB 785x785 nose3.jpg)

(22.03 KB 925x789 nose4.jpg)

>>11311 Because you didn't post the drawing for anyone to properly critique, I'm just going to assume you are indeed drawing the nose like a snout. In that case, flatten the nostril lines so it looks like a very flat smiley face. ^-^ Practice the guide I laid out for a while. As you get use to it, loosen up a bit and shaped it however you like.
>>11317 >drawing noses
Why does it say abandoned in the board list?
>>12339 Because Superior Dragon (the board owner) hasn't been active in 30 days. He needs to log in again or the board will be free to be claimed by anyone.
>>12340 I'll probably have to do it since I believe Speedy doesn't have as much free time either.
>>12341 True. I may have busy more recently, but I try to pop into /delicious/ and log in every now and then. And from the looks of things, between us three, Lincoln seems to be the more controlled one when it comes to keeping things alive and safe.
Edited last time by speedy05 on 03/27/2021 (Sat) 23:39:54.
>>12343 I already sent Codexx and admin an email.
>>12340 >He needs to log in again or the board will be free to be claimed by anyone. The claims process is manual, boards won't just be given to any random person if there's mods attached to a board.
>>149 >Western art style gets a bad rap due to the poor quality put out there. This board often reminds me there's good western art around. Anon's a great artist.
Anyone here?
Any reason krita gets so much shit on /ic/?
>>13566 Probably because it's not as fully featured as its non-free peers. But then /ic/ shits on a lot of things
>>13566 Bad artists blame their tools.
>>13914 I mean....I’m just saying: https://youtu.be/MGOLqU8AZpo
I’d like to ask if there’s anyone here who could teach me how I can draw from a reference (for obvious reasons, given the place I’m asking). I don’t want to come across as entitled or badgering, but I’ll provide the references I’m looking at now because I want to be able to properly fulfill drawthread requests (not just my own, but the stuff I really enjoy). I’m not starting from ground zero but I’d like to graduate up from tracing the references.
(346.49 KB 682x500 ClipboardImage.png)

>>14184 Well you could try learning how to draw from reference by first practicing using the grid method, it'll teach you observation skills. Then you can try to do it without a grid once you have enough confidence. It won't teach on how to draw with perspective or how to draw from memory but it will teach your hands and eyes to work as a team which is a very important skill if you want to draw from reference. That's how I learned to draw.
(489.34 KB 638x861 ClipboardImage.png)

>>14184 This book works like charm. It's not easy but it also helps that there are videos from the author himself explaining each chapter with examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfwiWJd9WSU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApyH98uufXg
>>13914 Comfort does play a part in productivity, though.
>>13914 Self-loathing idiots won't be able to progress further either.
There are only two things in art you need to know: 1. Feeling the volume of the objects, you draw or paint. 2. How to apply values on these forms. How the shadow works and it's contrast to the light. How bouncing light oder ambient occlusion works. After that, you can learn things like anatomy, composition, fashion design etc. But most important is a three dimensional perception in your mind (more precisely: How to feel the depths of your drawing/painting) and how light and shadow works.
>>650 a god amongst men
A big part of the problem is that any decent western artist get attacked. The big boys don't like competition. CP is a currency, and fake CP devalues it.
>>16919 I think the simpler explanation is western puritanism not a pedo mafia taking out the competition. When eastern MMOs that have scantily clad loli classes like Tera get censored in the western release it isn't to protect the value of CP, it's because westerners are puritans that are overdosing on pedo hysteria.
(227.54 KB 486x472 849582084_049.png)

Anyone have this book? Is it worth buying because it's cheap on Amazon right now?

(2.32 MB 5350x7448 gwen 3.png)

If you feel bad while drawing, take a walk or do light cardio for a while. It is important you take care of that before anything. Learn perspective and gesture drawing like they are the bible. Even more than anatomy, those are the most important skills to develop. Don't feel afraid to do tracings to learn stylistic choices. Obviously don't claim them as your art on socials, but tracings are very useful to learn proportions and gesture, especially on stylized figures. Ask for feedback. Avoid /ic/ at all costs for this step. You don't want an echo chamber that lulls you into complacency, but you don't want one that plunges you into depression either. Just take the book links from there and skedaddle. It is beneficial if you first learn how to draw adult figures so you can ask for feedback to other normie artists without worries. These are my 2 cents. Pics are my art.
>>17546 I like your art anon!

This reminds me of what my art was like then and what it's like now. How do I regain my art passion?
>>19307 Study other artists, new techniques, new compositions. If you feel like you're stagnating, challenging yourself will widen your scope.
>>4160 Yes, that's rather our complaint, isn't it?
>>19307 Stop drawing commissions. I have yet to see an artist not stagnate when they start taking commissions.
found a bunch of useful guides/tutorials on how to draw lolis: https://exhentai.org/g/1139944/79abd49230/ if you don't have a exhentai account I uploaded the folder to anonfiles: https://anonfiles.com/D2L52dyfw0/Assorted_Tutorials_On_How_to_Draw_Lolicon_Hentai_And_Lolis_English_and_Japanese_zip hope it helps fellow noob artist! (。◕‿‿◕。)
>>20008 There's a lot of shitty art in that tutorials folder. That obese elf thing doesn't look like a loli or a shortstack. That roller skate girl is shit. That toddler catgirl is shit. A lot of the vulvas are not something I'd use as a reference. 27525959_p0.jpg, 39142604_p0.jpg and 24132682_p0.jpg is a gross way of drawing a vulva. 29057853_p0.jpg, 35127344_p0.jpg and 29664459_p0.jpg is too simple.

>>149 I think we should make a thread to translate comics or images in general with texts in another language. (Japanese, Spanish, French or even English...) I would create the thread myself if I knew, but I don't even know if I'm allowed to. Thanks for any advice.
>>1494 Works nice on Windows, lot better than Microsoft's paint while remaining easy to use. Now I'm on Linux and tested Pinta as an alternative but it crashes regularly so I use KolourPaint (a KDE drawing soft). Not as good as paint.NET but I can do nice edits with this (some were posted here). I use it in combination with GIMP because it lacks some useful features tho and is sometimes too simplistic.
hey does anyone have any specific brushes they use for there hentai >hopefully looking for a cum brush and psd brushes

Something I discovered recently that I think every artist might find useful is a website called no clip! https://noclip.website/ It allows you to roam video game maps and gather all the screenshots and references you can handle. As you can imagine it's great for perspective and scale among other things. Some of the maps are glitchy or assets are missing (as seen in this screenshot of Kakariko Village in OoT where the windmill is gone) but very useful over all.
>>29993 Thanks, I might actually be able to use this.
