Imo, I'm in favor of him staying gone. I can appreciate what he has done for Sonic in the past, but much like with Taxman, Tee Lopes, Tyson Hesse and Stealth, new blood can ultimately do wonders for a series far far better than keep on asking for the return of "old masters". I think it's extremely unhealthy for a fanbase to keep foliating the old and needs to cope and demand more new. That's a far better way to move forward in life. To "Live and Learn" so to speak.
For me, I would rather have a new writer that still gets Sonic like Maekawa did, but with newer, more in tune to the newer generation's tastes instead of keeping Sonic in the past. I've been 100% actively hating Sonic being stuck pre 2010's in terms of everything non story related, and his Colors era localization and direction has triggered so many storyfags that, in all do respect, can get in the way of better focuses on Sonic's gaming content. But I do agree if Pontaff is gone for good, it would be a good movement forward. But bringing old people back, much like how bringing back Crush 40 revealed how old they have gotten and their wimsy is clearlly fading compared to the 2000s, isn't the best thing moving forward.
Tee Lopes is carrying Jun Senoue I feel, so a new writer that gets Sonic like Taxman got Sonic gameplay is something I would much, MUCH rather support. It allows proper growth of your series, and also allows for the newer blood to STAY longer instead of someone already nearing one foot into the ground.
