GE is re releasing some merch of theirs that went out of stock a while ago like their Werehog and Shadow plushies. Also I'm seeing a couple of things I don't remember seeing before, like the Sonic+Shadow+Silver blanket and the wall scrolls based on IDW Sonic covers. For now you need to preorder them, not sure if they're gonna be available later on as a normal purchase. https://www.entertainmentearth.com/s/?query1=sonic&selectedfacets=__Company=Great+Eastern+Entertainment&itemsperpage=60 >>20977 He really does, he looks great.
>>20978 Damn, some of that looks pretty great. Also didn't know there existed IDW Sonic cover wall scrolls.
>>20975 Am I the only loser who keeps printing and using the Sonic Channel calendars?
>>20984 Lol, I've always wondered if people actually did this. I mean, physical calendars are kind of useless these days, and also you'd have to be in an environment where you wouldn't get bullied for having a Sonic calendar for it to even be an option well unless you are into getting bullied that is.

Good afternoon /fast/! Out of all the Sonic games you've played, what was the first one you played on a 3rd party system? For me, it would be Advance 2 on the GBA
>>20987 The fanbase seems to really like to create sad scenes with Chip and Sonic, lol. >>20994 Do PCs count as third party? I stopped buying consoles a long time ago and only became a fan after that. In that case I think Generations.

>>20997 Actually, speaking of Generations, has anyone who bought the game on PC tried out Project Unleashed? How does it stack up compared to the OG Sonic Unleashed, because that has been on my mind for a long time now

What's your favorite and most hated badnik and why /sthg/? I kinda like the Eggpawn greeters from Colors a bunch since I found it fun that they tried to deceive you by greeting you from afar but chasing you to hit you when you got close. On the other hand I fucking hate caterkillers with a fucking passion. It seems easy to kill them once you get the hang of it but you never know if you will hit the right spot until you try. >mfw trying to kill a caterkiller, failing, trying again and failing for a second time >>20998 I did try Project Unleashed, but I've never tried the original Unleashed as I've never had a console that could run it to give it a try. Unleashed Project runs great and the levels are the same as in the original game, so in terms of gameplay I think it should be a similar experience (without the bad performance of Unleashed). Maybe the boost would be slower/faster in one of the games but I don't remember seeing anyone say anything about that. Personally I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, it was just too dry a experience without the story, and I found the levels to be a bit too complicated having come from Gens and Colors. If you want to try it I'm pretty sure I uploaded a copy of the game and Project Unleashed for /fast/ a couple of months back, I could look it up for you.
>>20998 It's pretty close to the original, but there's a few differences just based on not having all the same mechanics and assets. All the robots get little themed outfits, though, which is cute.
(112.32 KB 550x550 Orbinaut_3.png)

(139.03 KB 419x446 Star_Pointer.png)

>>20999 I don't know if I have a badnik I really dislike. Not even the Metropolis Zone badniks bother me anymore. But if there is one badnik I really like it's the Orbinaut and it's derivatives. So simple yet so menacing
https://www.fanbyte.com/features/sonic-hedgehog-satoshi-okano/ >The result of Okano’s efforts was a Sonic like no other, a previously unexplored look for the character that made a major impact. Not only would this art go on to inspire artists to pursue a career with SEGA — “a junior employee had said ‘I wanted to join SEGA after seeing your illustration postcards at the store!’” Okano notes — it also inspired Sonic’s creator himself, Yuji Naka, to seek out a new Sonic design for his upcoming Dreamcast debut This is pretty cool
>>20999 >Favorite The EggPawns from Sonic Heroes. A simple, yet very lovely design that's stuck around in some shape or form since. >Most hated Coconuts from Sonic 2. So many times when trying to blaze through Emerald Coast, that bastard has fucked me over.
>>20999 >hit the right spot Just roll into them, you fucking newfag.
>>21006 >Just roll into them Not the, but that's the easy way out tbh
(280.83 KB 720x480 scaled.png)

>>21002 >Not even the Metropolis Zone badniks bother me anymore There may be something seriously wrong with you. What about the guys in pic related? They're the sharks that jump at you from behind walls on the ice level of Sonic Advance. Man, these fuckers are up there with the caterkillers. Sorry for the crappy image, couldn't find a better one and it seems waifu2x is dead? >Orbinaut Killing those with the instashield is the most pleasant thing in the whole franchise. >>21006 That's boring as shit, specially in Sonic 1. And what if it's not facing you?
>>21007 >>21006 I'm not him either, but despite knowing that I fucking freak out sometimes when I see them on marble garden. I could possibly memorize the damn zone, but I hate it so much. I won't have that problem with any other zone with caterkillers. >>21009 >That's boring as shit, specially in Sonic 1. And what if it's not facing you? This.
>>21010 >marble garden Shit, I meant Marble zone
>>21006 >just roll into them IIRC, don't catakillers have a delayed(?) hitbox that will hurt you if you roll into them too fast?
>>21003 Huh, I'm surprised (but happy) that someone decided to seize the chance and ask him for an interview. I remember seeing him on twitter all the time a few months back commenting about the story behind his drawings and his story with Uekawa in a very involved way. I wish there were more information about Uekawa, I love his art style too much but he's way too low profile, and it's not like with demos and betas that you can open them up and learn history that way.
>>21013 Yeah, I kinda wish we got more interviews or looking into the stories of guys from that era of Sonic. But it seems like the ones that get most/if any of the focus tends to be Iizuka or Naka, or some of the music staff like Jun.

Have this IDW #27 cover too. I love it, who knows when it'll come out though.
I know it probably won't happen, but with the rumors of Nintendo remastering all the previous 3D Mario games for Switch, it would be great if Sega ended up doing the same thing with the 3D Sonic titles. It would be nice to at least get re-releases of Heroes, Shadow, and Unleashed on any platform, given none of them have gotten the re-release treatment both Adventures have.
>>21020 I know there's been a ton of issues with the re-releases of the Adventure titles, but I'd love it if SEGA were to take the time to properly re-release some of the other 3D titles (especially on Steam). Not only would the inevitable modding community add new life to those games, it'd be a great way to capitalize even further on the recent wave of Adventure-era nostalgia we've been seeing in the series. Also I've been wanting an Unleashed PC port for fucking ages now, pls SEGA
(3.08 MB 1920x1080 ClipboardImage.png)

What's your opinion on Longclaw, Sonic's new maternal figure? (And the only one to ever make it into an official Sonic title) >>20994 Sonic Unleashed on the PS2
>>21027 I actually liked the idea of Movie Sonic having a surrogate mother-type, but I've always felt weird on how a concept like that could be implemented into any other canon. But as it stands, she was fine in the movie.
>>21020 There was a rumor about this a couple of months back, but there was nothing to support it. Ultimately I think it'd be a huge effort for something that's not worth it, except for Unleashed since it's actually a serviceable game that has never been playable on PC, and maybe Shadow for the same reasons although you can emulate it easily. Speaking of Shadow, I haven't played that game yet, I really should get to it soon. >>21022 >recent wave of Adventure-era nostalgia we've been seeing in the series I really wonder if they're going to go somewhere with it. I just can't help to associate how much they're promoting the Adventure era with how much they did it with the Classic era right before announcing Mania (which they even mentioned they did to clue us in). Maybe a global pandemic was all it took for them to go back to the Adventures, lol. What do you think would happen if they actually did decide to focus on the Adventure era for a few years and release another adventure game? Do you think it'd end up being successful?
>>21030 >Do you think it'd end up being successful? Oh yeah. There's been so many people begging for SEGA to go back to the Adventure-era I imagine that it would sell pretty well. But then again, if they don't advertise it well enough I can see it doing about the same as Mania in the 1 million mark

>>21039 >icy landscapes are recognized as beautiful by literally everyone Yes, nice to look at. They're also recognized as incredibly inhospitable and not nice to live in. >comfy traditional huts keep you warm and you're waifu cozied up against you at night There are also these things called "cottages" and "cabins" that are just as cozy and warm while still being roomier and nicer to look at. >cold weather guarantees delicious meals Oh yeah, it's so nice having a cuisine of fish, fish, fish, and sometimes elk. Who wants a variety of fruits, vegetables, and breads? Eggs and milk? Herbs and spices? Pshaw, those are for losers. >sleeping with blankets year-round Cause that's the only way you can sleep without risking freezing to death. No naps under a tree on a warm summer day. No hammocks to lay in. Not to mention there's no room in those "traditional huts" to have even a proper bed, just little more than a rug on the floor to sleep on. >living in nature Oh boy I sure love living among the nature of ice and rocks. I don't know about you, but I don't remember any signs of natural life at all in Holoska besides fish and whales. >the ability to have a different adventure every day Oh yes, I'm sure you can have many adventures in the land of nothing but ice and water. Oh I climbed a cliff today. Oh I slid on some ice and snow today. Oh look, I had all the fucking adventure possible. >can't handle some cold like a real man The cold would be worth something if there was more than barren wastes around. >probably couldn't fish on the ice to save his life Oh boy, more fish. I like eating the same thing day after day. So given SEGA delayed their big announcement instead of cancelling it, when does anyone expect the announcement to actually be made?
Do you have a Sonic games backlog /sthg/? What games are in it? >>21071 I imagine they'll wait until the lockdowns ease up a bit. If they have to make a stream or record a video, they'll need to have the ability to get together and rehearse and all that. Hopefully they don't depend on people that are stuck abroad (Jun and Hoshino are in Japan at the moment for example) because if they do that's probably going to delay things a lot more. Also >big announcement more like >big announcement
>>21072 As of right now, some of the DS games, Colors & Generations on PC.
>>21073 Give Colors a try, it's not a bad game. It's gotten a lot of hate in recent years because a lot of concepts which were later exaggerated and overdone started with it but the game itself is fine.
>>21072 >Do you have a Sonic games backlog /sthg/? Are we counting games we own or games we're planning on playing in general? I currently own the Wii versions of Unleashed and Colors and plan to get to them at some point. As far as other games I'd like to play through, I want to beat Knuckles Chaotix Advance 2 & 3, Rush Adventure, and Colors DS at some point. Otherwise I've played through a vast majority of the games, with only some of the more obscure ones like Pocket Adventure and Segasonic remaining.
(1.97 MB 808x540 sonic_jesus.mp4)

Why hasn't the run over water trick been used more? It looks cool as hell. The last time I remember it being used was for Generations on Seaside Hill (was it used on any other stage?) and before that in one stage in Unleashed. Don't remember if it was used in Colors. How bad does mp4 related look? I'm struggling with new emulator and new editing software.
>>21072 >backlog Just Black Knight and Unleashed.
>>21077 I don't know why, but whatever Sonic game has a water stage should definitely use it. It's so fucking cool & much better than just *instantly dies in water* Also the mp4 looks good, anon. What are you using?
>>21078 Oops, meant to reply to >>21076 But in any case, what version of Unleashed is in your backlog anon?
>>21078 Yeah, I dig how Advance 3 has these mini water sections and sometimes you can just run over them if you're fast. I was using Retroarch, recording with OBS, and trimming/cropping/converting with Avidemux running on Wine, so it was quite a fucked up setup. Thinking about it, the biggest issue is that I was too lazy to create a new configuration in OBS for recording off Retroarch, so the video was being recorded on a full screen canvas stretched as much as it could and then black bars were added to it because the resolutions weren't multiples, forcing me to have to crop it. Fixing that should make the whole process easier.
>>21080 The Advance trilogy wasn't perfect, but man, the things they did right should've been implemented into other 2D titles. I also think they had a great idea on the Boost Mode allowing characters to go faster based on the momentum they build. I don't think any 3D title (fan-made or not) has done that yet & I'd really like to see someone try that out in a 3D setting.

God dammit, I thought for a moment the instashield was back. What's the point of this if it doesn't give you invulnerability frames? >>21086 I think they had some good ideas but ultimately the games as a whole weren't really anything to write home about. Boss design in 2 was pretty interesting for instance, although when I played it I wanted to pull my hair out, lol. >Boost Mode I honestly never saw it as anything but visual candy. As a gameplay element I don't think it has any value.
>>21076 >Why hasn't the run over water trick been used more? Because the last 2 games wasn't focused on water levels? Sonic's done this since Sonic 3K, so it's not something exotic to Sonic, it's just that there's only been 2 major games which was over 3 years ago now.
>>21079 PS3. I played the PS2 version a long while ago. It really felt watered down, even for the time.
>>21088 I remember having that discussion about the inst-shield some rime ago. I was confused as to why they took out the i-frames in the Advance games which led to me not even trying to use it for invulnerability as a kid and I'm certain that I wasn't the only one.
>>21090 >running across water since S3&K >It's not exotic to Sonic But which Sonic games (post S3&K) actually have you run across water?

>>21109 Oof. And poor Amy just keeps dying Tbh I fucking hate some of the later bosses in the Advance games, so I sympathize with your rage
When a game has multiple playable characters like Sonic 3 or Advance 3, do you enjoy playing with the other characters as much as you enjoy playing as Sonic? I just have never found the rest of the gameplay styles to be as fun or as polished as Sonic's.
>>21111 I've always stuck to playing Sonic whenever I want a quick playthrough of some of the game's stages, but every once in a while, I do enjoy playing as Tails or Amy or Cream in the Advance games. Knuckles is fun to play in stuff like Advance 2, but I have a tendency to fuck up & glide when I'm not trying to do so, which trips me up in certain levels.
>>21087 I didn't know it was dead. I know the dev had to take a break because his computer was dying on him but he's been back for a while and has finished that other fangame of his. I still need to give this a try, it looks great.
>>21113 Yeah, it surprised me to find out the project was dead too. But it's cool to see it live again, since I remember following vs. Darkness a little a few years ago & I always support fangames being completed

I've already completed Cyber Track God damn I hate the cyber stages in the Advance games but somehow she didn't unlock. I know I beat that boss with Sonic and Tails so I imagine I must have to beat every stage of that zone with them and I guess I must have beat one of them with another character pair or something else must have happened. Can I fix this somehow?
>>21118 Just replay Act 3 with Sonic as the lead, same as with the other Act 3s where Gemerl shows up as the mini-boss. It won't trigger with Tails as the player character or any other pairing.

Advance 1 is my favorite of the trilogy precisely because Advance 3's level design is wonky despite the admirable attempt to reach a middle ground between 1&2. It's no wonder I've seen a fair amount prefer Advance 2 over it, as well.

If you didn't already know this, consider yourselves lucky until now. It's the universal rule for consoles today. Playing with your friends across the web is a paid privilege (unless you're on PC). A monthly fee at that. It's the reason I never bought a PS4. Paying for something you already paid for is just extortion. >>21063 It's not even a SEGA franchise anymore. >>21128 Didn't they just outsource it whilst still retaining the rights ala the modern 2D Sonic titles, Wonder Boy remake, Bayonetta's sequels (or almost all of Platinum's pre MGR games, as a whole) the upcoming Panzer Dragoon remake, etc? Still, I'm glad it was done after so long. Not sure if they'll release a new game exactly on his 30th birthday, especially given the Corona Virus, but we'll be getting something before you know it. The wait is nothing compared to how long fans of most other Sega franchises have been waiting like these. JSR still hasn't gotten so much as a port of Future. Just what made that "Sega Forever" line seemingly fizzle out?
>>21130 Like I said, I don't have any consoles (not anymore). Regardless of opinion, forcing your customers to pay for something that doesn't need money to begin with (they use the "muh servers" excuse) is complete cock-a-leekie (yes, that's a real word/food). Think about it. You can't play TSR online with your friends on consoles without paying that monthly Gold/Plus/Switch Online bullshit, and you won't be able to play Mania online (if they ever make a Co-op online mode) without paying for it to the people who hold all of your rights to own what you own. Fuck Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo, and their grub tactics. >>21131 Feasible Argument, but it would make sense if SEGA was the publisher. I didn't even know Monster Boy was a SEGA franchise until you pointed it out (it's not even in the trailer). I looked up, and it's under the exact same circumstances (sold to a French Studio). Now that I think about it, I'm honestly not sure what is really going on. Bayonetta was always more of a co-ownership kind of franchise. The developers were willing to let anyone publish it as long as they did (i think about 60% of it is owned by Nintendo now). Side-note, that game's just DmC with boobs. But I'm willing to listen if you can explain it better.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3RqzWdluKU >>21132 Oh right, forgot about how they published the Shenmue ports but left Shenmue III to Deep Silver and Sony to pick up the tab that wasn't crowdfunded and then Yu took it to Epic of all companies to get it out for PC on conditional exclusivity. Maybe they ought to have done that in-house but I suppose their internal teams were too busy with Yakuza, Judgment, and the Hokuto No Ken game. I remember that the Advance trilogy had THQ on their boxes as the publisher for the games outside of Japan. It seems that they were responsible for distribution duties in that regard. It's a bit fascinating to know how many hands games through to get out the door. Like how the GTA games were published by Capcom in Japan and Ubisoft were involved in Guardian Heroes' GBA sequel that was owned by Sega and developed by Treasure. On Bayonetta, Kamiya said that they were making 2 soon after the first was finished but that it was essentially cancelled by Sega until they offered Nintendo to fund it in exchange for exclusivity for the sake of aiding the Wii-U. He got pissed whenever people pestered him over 2&3 being made just for Nintendo hardware since they wouldn't be made at all without their funding and any chance of those games being on non-Nintendo platforms would have to be at Ninty's discretion. Which made it a bit shocking because their other game, Wonderful 101 was in a similar situation as a Wii-U exclusive that (iirc) was also funded by Nintendo and was originally meant to feature Nintendo characters but now that game is being ported to the PC and PS4 in addition to the Switch. >>21133 Congrats on making it that far. You have 1 zone left, or technically that and a couple boss acts assuming you didn't get all the chao to make the keys to the special stages for the emeralds appear. Sonic 2 for the Game Gear has a few differences from the Master System version like its predecessor (infamously, due to its small screen, the first boss in that game can't be cheesed anymore and you have to have good reflexes in coordination and likely save states or else it's incredibly easy to die in one hit) but both are arguably harder than the genesis version aside from maybe the special stages and the final boss (as Knuckles) HD Eggmanland-let's just say that it encompasses a lot of the game itself in a microcosm. Good, bad, it has it all. Labyrinth and the original Sonic are underrated and are great pleb filters. Neither it nor Marble are too agonizing or long if you know what you're doing aside from maybe Acts 2 in each Zone. A certain boss in Chaos Angel may jog your memory of the 1st Advance a bit**
>>21131 >Didn't they just outsource it whilst still retaining the rights I'm not sure, I looked at the wiki page earlier and there was no mention of Sega anywhere, I thought it was weird Sega would get rid of the IP just like that so the idea that they just licensed the game (much like they did with Shenmue 3) makes sense, but I don't know if it's true. I'm really baffled at all these no name companies getting the rights to landmark IPs of past, like it happened with System Shock. Wish they would at least do a better job at it. >Not sure if they'll release a new game exactly on his 30th birthday They'd better.
>>21139 It was a good move from them. That game's not worth making an Epic Chinkware account over. I guess SEGA knew from the start the game was going to be horrifyingly dated. Not a single real improvement has been made to it other than the graphics. Maybe there's a reason here why Adventure 3 will never come to be…

>>21149 Sure, but Sonic had never really had a need to use it, either, nor do we know if he's even had an opportunity to learn it. Shadow knows how the technique works, so I'd assume he'd be able to use it as long as his body was capable of using chaos energy. It's like ki from Dragon Ball. Most main characters in DB have the capability to use kienzan/destructo disk, for example, they just don't because they never bothered to learn how. Meanwhile, everyone and their mother knows and has used taioken and the kamehameha because they're just that useful and easy to learn.

>>21205 It's amazing that there's still new things to find about this old game.
>>21133 >I should give it a quick replay when I'm done to refresh my memory and form a better opinion I actually ended up doing this just now. It felt like much less of a chore than the other games, and the levels actually felt quite polished, which I didn't realize on my first playthrough. As a result the game was quite a breeze to go through, which was nice. I only lost a few lives throughout the game and by the time I was done I had more than 10 (the counter only goes up to 9, lol). The OST also deserves recognition as several of the tunes are quite catchy, and some of the backgrounds on the levels were beautiful, thought the graphics in general and the limited amount of character abilities make the game feel like it had much less budget than the others. I caught myself wishing the game had more budget to it to make it more complex, but immediately thought that maybe that's the reason 2 and 3 turned out the way they did. Overall it's quite a nice humble game, I think I'd rate 1<3<2. >>21200 I ended up kind of figuring it out after trying different things and searching around. Basically the problem was me cranking up the internal resolution too much. Apparently past a certain point the emulator starts requiring a whole lot of resources and that's why it starts slowing down. Turning down the internal resolution to the one before the one I originally chose made things work smoothly. I also tried the standalone DeSmuME and the version I tried didn't seem to have that option, but using some of the filters caused it to slow down to a crawl as did resizing the window to make it bigger. Seems emulating these games is actually difficult, which I wasn't expecting since it's a 16 year old handheld console god dammit. Anyway, at some point later I'll play the Rush games, they seem quite fun and I'm looking forward to playing as fire kitty.
>>21205 I wonder why they removed the rolling boulders from GHZ. Also what the fuck are those things on Marble Zone's sky? They're creepy.

>>21211 PS1/PS2 emulation, PS & GCN/Wii emulation are pretty good, but yeah, it's still limited for other consoles. PS3 seems to be improving, but that's about it afaik.
>>21212 Oh, that's cute
>>21213 I still don't consider PS2 emulation all that good. It's better that a lot of emulation, but it still has a lot of issues. There's too much configuration on a game-by-game basis, some great games are playable but with noticeable issues, and usually fixing those issues just means using software mode, but that drastically increases the hardware capabilities needed to run the games without a hitch plus removes the ability to use features like upping the resolution. I had to switch to the PC version of Soul Reaver 2 (which did not support my gamepad) just to play it without massive slow downs in certain areas. PS3 emulation is starting to get there, but I believe it's in a Wii-U situation where some key games emulate fairly well and then the rest you're mostly out of luck. We did forget one 3D console that got fantastic emulation, though, and that's PSP. Not that I feel later emulation matters all that much for Sonic. Nearly every major 3D console title has a PC version, and the portable games after the DS/PSP have pretty much been watered down versions of the home console games, with Generations 3DS having the luxury of some different levels and bosses. You're only really missing out on Unleashed and the improved re-release of Sonic the Fighters, if all you've got is a PC.
>>21213 >>21211 Oh, I thought emulators for really old consoles such as these had improved in all these years considering how long it's been, that the emulators I had previously tried have worked well, and that emulators are running in such advanced hardware in comparison to the original consoles. In this case the console is also a handheld, so I really didn't suspect shit would be so fucked up. >>21215 >PS3 emulation is starting to get there, but I believe it's in a Wii-U situation where some key games emulate fairly well and then the rest you're mostly out of luck I remember seeing some quite impressive videos of Unleashed running on a PS3 emulator, so hopefully it is or becomes one of those games. >Not that I feel later emulation matters all that much for Sonic Besides Unleashed which you mention, Colors is also console only. Although playing it on PC hasn't been an issue in years, considering those are some of the best games the franchise has seen in the past 15 years, I think emulation is still pretty important.

>>21237 Yeah, after Streets of Rage 4 came out with some new songs made by him I remembered his and his sister's contribution for that port and got nostalgic. Bridge Zone's theme was ace and it along with the staff roll may have been incorporated for Believe in Myself and Savannah Citadel, respectively. And since there's no new JSR, Naganuma would also be another composer that be fun to see revisited in a future game, but is said to have been "pricey" Just felt like Ohtani and Senoue could get re energized since they did a lot of 4 and Lost World's OST by themselves with the latter saying he prefers working in teams and I felt that they spread themselves out a little much there with only a handful of really stand out tracks.. I know others have been aching for Crush 40 to do a theme song for a main Sonic title once more.
>>21238 I personally would love to have Naganuma compose music for a Sonic game but I think he likes being in charge, I don't know how that would work out with Jun and Othtani.

I know this is old but I decided to check out one of the comics and this issue made me wonder if Amy is starting to become something like Sally. I never knew anything about Sally Acorn as a character but from what little I did see she was basically the person to organize things and stuff, right? If Amy is doing that then is Sally is more or less replaced?
>>21240 Amy has a similar 'position' to Sally, but that doesn't mean she has the same 'personality'. She's still Amy. Sally has been replaced, though. She was replaced the moment the Archie comics got canned.
>>21240 Similar to what >>21241 mentioned, basically. Due to the Resistance setup from Sonic Forces more or less mimicking the Freedom Fighters set up from SatAM/Archie, Amy has adapted the position that Sally once held in the comics, being the one that organizes everyone & showing more leadership. But all the same, when outside of that set-up, she still retains the personality that Amy Rose has been known for, just that she hasn't had much time to really relax in IDW with all the shit that's happened. However with the Zombot virus nearing its end, we should see her outside of that soon.
>>21235 >make some sort of money out of it by having them be shown in an event of some sort Isn't it the other way around? I've always imagined that taking part in an event meant forking out money. Or do you mean organizing an actual physical event like Sonic Boom or Summer of Sonic? Not really sure either of those made any money either, maybe the 20th Anniversary Party did given the sponsors I could sure use some #StuffedNachos right now >>21236 I haven't played the 8bit games so far, I never really thought it was worth it. I think they're probably among the least played/known Sonic games out there (outside of less mainstream stuff like Sonic Schoolhouse and such) >trailer That OST actually did sound pretty good, I'm gonna give it a listen later, and the game looked kinda fun too but I don't have a 3DS. Man I wasn't expecting that trailer to turn that lewd out of the blue >>21238 It's funny, when there were several composers on the soundtracks, my favorite tunes would always end up being those composed by Ohtani. I'm sad that after he got (even) more prominence on the soundtracks the quality tanked.
>>21211 >>21213 >>21215 >>21216 Let me rank/review the Big Emulators for you: 1. Dolphin (Gamecube/Wii) For some odd and satisfying reason, people like to put in a lot of effort to make sure Nintendo Games are playable outside their "jurisdictions". I don't know what started it (was it people who desperately wanted a port of Super Mario on PC, or the people that sued them for trying that), but the Dolphin Emulator's so amazingly well-made I can even play it on a Dual-Core CPU with no GPU. 2. Beetle PSX (PC) or PCSX-ReARMed (Smartphones) As a man who grew up with Sony (and never heard of Nintendo until he was 16 (Chinese NES Bootlegs was the closest thing)), it makes me happy that people perfected it a long time ago. On top of that, they keep on improving the Emulation capabilities even today (look up PGXP). It also just about satisfies me that you can use the Emulator on pretty much anything (even an RPi computer). 3. PPSSPP (PSP) While the Emulator is amazing (and the PSP will always have a special place in my heart), the library of games never felt completely satisfying. The PSP always felt like a dumping-ground for spin-offs, sub-par ports and a test bed for one-off game franchises. While I loved the PSP (still have a modded model 1000 in my room), it always felt like a squandered potential (at least for me). The Emulator itself is capable of running under the same specs as a mid-range laptop. 4. Cemu, Citra and Yuzu (Wii U, 3DS, Switch) They all have an equal footing in progress, but it's already amazing where they came today. Once again, people are very good at making sure that you don't need to buy a Nintendo anything to play their Games. While they made amazing progress, you still need a Good PC for them (on par with running the PS3 Emulator). 5. RPCS3 (PS3) and Xenia (X360) They significantly improved them both in the past couple of years. There's still work to be done, but the amazing progress is undeniable. It's mostly worth it for the exclusives that never got remastered (they're shifting most of their focus to those games). You don't need a NASA computer to run them (with the current builds), but you do need a good PC non-the-less, and you need to have at least some experience with configuration in case of errors. 6. PCSX2 and Play! (PS2) The worst emulators of them all. Ironically the PS2 was the weakest 6th Gen Console hardware-wise, and it feels like they didn't do anything with either of them. Not only will you keep running into issues playing your favourite exclusives, you need a Monster PC to run anything without stutter. Not to mention most PS2 games are fine-tuned to adapt to the hardware they were made for. Meaning that a whole heap of game-breaking glitches will make their way in some games (preventing you from completing them beyond a certain threshold). It's a waste of time to download it, you'd have better luck buying a PS2 and soft-modding it. Honourable mentions: -Redream, Flycast, Demul (Dreamcast) I'm sure many of you can find solace with the ability to play pretty much any SEGA game on any Emulator, but I never grew up with Dreamcast, so I can't tell you my perspective (it doesn't help that most of the better exclusives already got remastered, minus Crazy Taxi 2). It's a fantastic bunch of emulators non-the-less. Made by people who put in real effort. -Cxbx-Reloaded (Xbox Original) I was one of the few kids in my town who had the actual Xbox, and it was amazing. While the Emulator is on the same level as PS2 Emulation, it has a legit excuse of still being too young and inexperienced. I hope to see some great things from the people who can make all the Graphically Superior Console Exclusives playable (Project Gotham Racing 5 when?). Any questions?
>>21242 I hope so. Honestly, I don't like that position for her and enjoyed her much more when she wasn't in it. >However with the Zombot virus nearing its end, we should see her outside of that soon. Technically the Restoration was made to help communities rebuild after Eggman's world domination scheme succeeded, and after this crisis it sounds like the group and her position in it will be needed even more than before.
>>21245 >Any questions What's the best SEGA Saturn emulator?
>>21246 Yeah, I can't blame you. I mean I liked that Amy is growing into a young leader & all, but I'm kinda over The Resistance/Restoration concept & would like to see Amy Rose do more mundane/non-cleaning up Eggman's shit things again. Who knows, with the issue following the Zombot arc being more mundane, we can see some of that, even if the Restoration is still needed.

>>21247 You have The Mednafen Beetle Saturn for PC (w/ RetroArch), or Kronos for weak PCs and Smartphones. The problem with Sega Saturn Emulation is, unlike the PSX at the time, the original hardware renders everything by square (and not by triangle). On top of that, it's all jumbled together almost as badly as the Atari Jaguar. It's an 8 core CPU with 2 separate GPUs used to render elements in the image separately (like shared RAM). This is believed to be one of the contributing factors to why the Saturn failed (developers felt discouraged compared to the ergonomic, simple, yet more powerful hardware on the PSX). You either need a Good PC with at least a Quad Core CPU, or at the very least a PC with OpenGL 4.3 support or greater. If you have neither, you'll have to settle for the old renderer in Kronos with various Graphical Glitches in various games. Photo From Left to Right, Top to Bottom: >Original Saturn >Mednafen Bettle Saturn (Good CPU recommended) >Kronos (OpenGL 4.3 or greater) >Kronos (OpenGL 4.2 or lower, notice the road in the distance)

Emulator (the other one for the PS2) doesn't even work properly on devices that don't support Vulkan. I feel so insulted knowing that nobody still wants to give PS2 Emulation any feasible effort (even 20 years after the release). I'm sorry, but fuck them…

>>21256 Holy shit, that worked wonders anon, thanks! >mfw swarm was chock full of ruskies I actually just gave it a try, I get 20-60 fps but man it actually works. Unleashed is so fucking beautiful holy shit. I wanted to record a webm but unfortunately my overly complicated setup was not cooperating at all, I'll keep experimenting a bit more to see if I can squeeze some more performance out of the emulator and fix the issues with my setup to record something, but I think I'll wait until the emulator is developed some more and plays the game better and supports my controller to actually give it a play.
>>21260 Got it off my go to site, torrentz2.eu. Glad to be of service. >20-60fps Yep that's the PS3 version, for you. 360 version I think was mostly locked to a straight 30, although both tanked in certain parts of Adabat like the Interceptor/chase bot scenes. Patches were made to alleviate this a bit. I recall hubs had drops at night due to having to render the werehog's fur. Day stages are a rock solid 60 in Generations-Unleashed Project port; I wish I could upgrade my PC since it's a decade behind and can't play either without a graphics card. >>21239 He was supposed to make a few tracks for Streets of Rage 4 but left for "scheduling conflicts". What could he be on, I wonder? He did just that when he made "Ain't Nothing Like a Funky Beat " for Lethal League Blaze. One of the voice actors for the game, Whynne who made the original trollface and voiced Candyman in the game visited the 8chanmania stream, talked for a while and actually voiced his character along with Spongebob for the stream. Shit was so cash
>>21258 Well fuck me, that sucks. PS2 is one of my all-time favorite consoles & the lack of progress in developing good emulators is pretty heartbreaking. Out of curiosity tho, if someone were to soft-mod their PlayStation 2, what would be the best method in going about that? Because if I can like, use ROMs in the PS2, there's a few Sonic titles I have in mind to try out.
>>21262 You need a special PS2 Memory Card for that (I forgot what it was called). There's a method with a USB, but it's lengthy (and it involves exploits). Thanks to that, you can play your PS2 ISOs directly off a Hard Drive. Personally, I suggest you just get the Dolphin Emulator, because nearly all PS2 Ports of Sonic Games suck (I should know). They put in all of the effort either on Xbox, or Gamecube (even PC sometimes). Then there's the fact that Dolphin can also emulate Wii games (meaning you can also play Unleashed, the Storybooks, or Colours). But that's just my advice, take it or leave it.

>>21261 Cool, I'm gonna keep that bookmarked for future reference. I managed to fix my setup fortunately, so here's a small webm I recorded playing with without controller and with poor performance is difficult, no bully!. Control/movement choice for the game is quite awkward. Homing attack on the same key as boost? That's risky as hell. And I haven't been able to find a way to stomp! Unfortunately the emulator doesn't seem to be using much of my GPU if any. I noticed it was not using the Vulkan renderer but unfortunately trying to use it crashes the emulator as soon as the game starts. Unfortunately that might be because my drivers are quite outdated, hopefully I'll be able to update them in the future and try again. Gonna keep poking around the emulator for a bit too just to see if something else could be done but I don't expect any miracles, it's pretty amazing as it is, the thing emulates great, just a tad slow.

>>21270 >>21269 >playing without controller and with poor performance is difficult That webm actually looks a lot like an ordinary playthrough of the demo, especially pre patch. It's almost impressive that it was played without a controller. And yes, their mapping of the air boost and homing attack to the same button is ridiculous and no one knows why they did that. It's among the reasons I preferred Generations' controls; the stomp (and other abilities) in the game has to be found in one of the entrance stages ala Sonic Adventure. >>21270 The devs behind Hatred, Postal, and Doug Tennappel all did AMAs here, even Yoko Taro dropped a post it went fairly well until the THQ one. >>21276 Only used Bluestacks and it ran like shit, maybe my computer wasn't good enough.
>>21281 Not that I know your specs, but that may be correct. They recommend at least a Quad-Core CPU for it with at least 2.0 GHz. A CPU that can support Vulkan is most likely to run without any issues. (That automatically means a PC that can support OpenGL 4.5 and DirectX12, or higher) But I'm just giving you some advice. It may be easier to get one of those Cheap (yet surprisingly powerful) Chinese Androids (solely for the reason that they're still moral enough to have a headjack).
>>21281 P.S. I tried Android-x86 a few times, and it's a lot more issue ridden than it looks. You also have the option to install ChromeOS on your Laptop (the pseudo-official Android-x86), but it's a long and technical process.

The last thing is that it removed swastikas that were on Cool Edge's igloos, no joke. A "Did You Know Gaming" video also had touched upon this. Fun times were had indeed. Crying shame that 8chan has fallen into negligence with Ron trying to salvage whatever he can after a chunk of the non-QAnon audience left for other sites on the webring, which recently had the short lived fatchan give up and julay getting embroiled in major staff drama. >>21295 It's hard to tell exactly how much of it is just the SA2 model being significantly lower-poly, and thus being slightly more exaggerated to convey her figure, and how much is an actual shrinkage of assets. She definitely looks a lot less curvy in Heroes, but that could just be an effect of the outfit she wears in that game. Shadow and 2006 Rouge are still pretty darn curvy. If I had to make comparisons, I'd say SA2 Rouge is more proportioned like a short-stack, while later Rouges look more like a shrunk Jessica Rabbit.

I'm just finished reading "My Arms Are Blue" for a 5th time (of the chapters so far). It's been one of my all-time favourite fan-fictions of all time. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12528870/1/My-Arms-are-Blue For those who never heard of it, it's basically a reaction-fic where Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Metal and Eggman are all pulled into Tails's House/Workshop by an Invisible Omniscient Being (hinted to be the author) that traps them there with a big shiny Plasma TV (and basically has the power to do whatever and however he wants). Basically, they have to power through most of the 1st Season of Sonic Boom while they make hilarious commentary over it. The "being" not only has sadistic fun with them, but some other characters come in later chapters for one reason or another (and remain for a couple of them before departing). I recommend anyone else here who didn't read it to do it now! It's not only one of the best ways to review Sonic Boom, but also to laugh at the "Originals" and how they comprehend the absolute absurdities of the other world.
>>21317 Not to sound like a shill, I've actually read this before & it's pretty cozy. It makes me wish we got more slice of life Sonic material with the Modern cast, because we don't really get much of that. The games & even comics I can understand why, but it's always nice to see what they do outside of their Adventures, y'know? >>21315 Out of curiosity, that Bump model would have to be fully rigged before being ported into any fangame, right?
>>21317 That just sounds like an awful mix of power-wanking self-insertion and stupid reaction entertainment.
>>21320 1. Self-insertion is only power-wanking if that character has a "very" prolific autism-inspired role. Here, he's more like background fodder to keep us laughing at his sadistic shenanigans and the characters (and establishing the plot). 2. Reaction Entertainment only sucks if you're like most of those crappy YouTube Channels that play over the entire video with a Poker Face (and people still watch them, idk why…). Here, they actually have legit long commentary, and fun plots on the side before, between, and after watching the episodes. 3. I said "Don't knock it 'till you try it.". So quit moping, and give it a few chapters before you earn the right to complain. And don't give me none of that "I don't need to read it to know that it sucks" bullshit. "Don't judge a book by it's cover" could never be used better in a sentence than right now.
>>21321 >"Don't judge a book by it's cover" could never be used better in a sentence than right now. Except this is fan-fiction, Sonic fan-fiction no less, the medium that is 99.99% terrible autism. What you're doing is essentially telling someone that what looks like a turd in a sea of shit is actually just a brown diamond, and they have no right to be put off having to wade into the sea of shit to pick up what looks like just another turd but is supposedly a diamond.
>>21315 Honestly I'm disappointed by what I've seen of his Bump/Sage models, they look really amateur compared to the models of the official characters he's done. >>21341 Honestly it serves them right. It makes me sad and angry that Sega tried to throw everything under the bus. I still have no idea what the hell happened for a new concept like Boom to get so much support behind it that no other part of the franchise has managed to get in decades, to the point it was the only thing going on with Sonic for years. Did they really think the franchise had no future unless they did something like this? If they did, given that nothing has really changed since then, it makes sense that they will try it again at some point. Will the movie universe take that place then? I wish this didn't have to be a concern. It's enough already having to deal with the poor decision they make regularly.
>>21346 I think the next main game after the movie will be important to show how much confidence does Sega and Sonic Team itself have on this franchise.

>>21341 Honestly, it would probably be decent if they didn't pull another '06. Speaking from personal preference, I like Sonic Boom (unironically). Just the fact that it knows it's stupid is what sold it. There wasn't many "sell-out" vibes going on behind it. Just writers having fun with a dumb new rendition of the franchise (it didn't even feel that out of place considering that the design for Sonic himself was inspired by Cartoons). Will SEGA (or companies in general) ever learn not to rush art!? Not everyone needs to work like Atari!

Any good Chaotix detective stories/fancomics?
>>21360 Are you looking solely for fan-made stuff, or would any official comics do?
>>21361 Official can do as well! I'm just in a detective kick
>>21362 Well Sonic Universe issues 91-94 was based around the Chaotix in their underwater city Meropis. It's a fun read & has the extra novelty of the 4th part being the final issue of Archie Sonic to be released.
>>21363 Was just gonna suggest the same, Meropis had some fun Chaotix moments. I didn't remember if it was fully based around them though. Would post some crops but I don't want to spoil.
>>21363 Alright, I'll give that a look… though it sounds like I need to do some background reading first.
>>21365 IIRC, the arc was the kind that doesn't really require much (if any) reading of previous issues. It's kinda divorced from most of the stuff the main comic was doing, so you could just jump in & read those issues. Especially if you're mostly looking for The Chaotix
>>21367 That sounds great! Thank you!

>>21433 Sadly, no. All that was released was that tech demo and promises of an "adult" story. The game was being updated at mod db until 2016, a few posts saying that the game became a community project and that it was being moved to unreal engine 4, and that was the last of it. And she has been getting some stuff in the Classic stuff like the Mania Adventures Christmas special, but yeah, I still struggle to really give the games any credit when her only contribution to the mainline titles since Unleashed has been Sonic Forces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B01rQv7VZA Here we go. If the AMA is anything to go by, maybe they'll throw us a bone or two in here.
Yaaawn… If they really want to get back our interest, they need to make a "Into The Sonicverse" or something. I mean, the multiverse is one of the most prominent (yet subtle) highlights of the entire franchise, they need to finally use it. It would be pretty epic to see all of the Sonics from all the different worlds we all know fight all of their Eggmans in one place in an Action Scene so intense, masculine, and explosion filled, it makes JoJo look like Queer Eye (even more so than usual). Even Michael Bay (a 90s kid in a grown man's body) would be the perfect director for it.
>the time/quality trade off argument again That doesn't work after Forces considering the boost games are some of the best 3D games we've gotten and were made with 1 year between them.
>>21460 Yeah I don't buy it either. It's probably a mix of less budget and corona-chan

Also he keeps mentioning that the brand is growing and getting stronger and whatnot but aside from the movie which is still very recent, I don't really feel it. Honestly I would even say the contrary with it getting less games, less comics, no more portable games, and so on. >>21456 >outright confirming Boom is dead It's not surprising that it is, but it's surprising that he'd outright confirm it when he could have just dodged the question like he's been doing since the start of the AMA. Thanks to California Hipster Brats spreading their "Pretend to be Offended" mentality across the globe, even one of the most depressed and suicidal nations on the planet is taking a kick out of it (it's not racist if it's true). However, it's not without it's reasons… Most people today don't know much about this, but most Koreans outright hate the Japanese (even to this day). They can't stand them, even for a millisecond (Their N-Word for them roughly translates to "Pillagers"). There are some neighbourhoods in Korea where you'll get killed on the spot if you hint at being a "Pillager" (like post-war nationalist zones). 35 years of Second-Class Palestine-like Oppression (until the end of WWII) will do that to an entire nation. I'm pretty sure whoever reported the hoodie had a grandmother (my fullest condolences) who was raped and beaten by a "Pillager" during the Occupation (look up "Comfort Women", and you'll understand what I mean). She must've passed away recently, so his/her head is a bit over the edge (people aren't born racist, they are raised that way). I'll give it a pass this time, since you can't fix more than a century of deep-rooted racism in a snap.

Good evening, /sthg/ Don't mind me, just posting a cursed Sonic
>>21489 I remember about the party, but not about it not going as planned. Honestly I was betting my rings on the video saying everyone ended up drunk and trashed the place or did something embarrassing for Sega. I'm glad we didn't fuck this up and it was instead on Sega not coming up with a proper way to hold the event, though it's still sad if that was the reason they didn't host any more events as it's a stupid mistake and it's not that the idea was flawed. More recently I think Deep Silver or whoever was the publisher of Mania also hosted a party for Mania's launch on Spain. They seemed pretty based, they were also sending fans gifts and I think even Sonic Mania press packages.
>>21491 Oh yeah, I love the idea of a launch party for Sonic games since it helps make their release sorta feel like a big deal. More than anything, I don't know why Lost World on PC was something they felt like was a great idea for a launch party as opposed to other titles in the series.
>>21488 >people aren't born racist, they are raised that way Pretty much everything you were taught growing up is a lie.
>>21492 I too thought it was random that they decided to do an event for the PC launch, specially since the port came years after the game originally launched. Also these kind of smaller and more personal events feel a bit weird to me, but hey I'm not complaining, it's always cool when they throw fans a bone.
>>21494 >it's always cool when they throw fans a bone Same here. Little live events like that always puts a smile on my face, like the 25th anniversary thing. bzzzzzzzzzzzz

As if their only PR strategy these days is to talk out of both sides of their mouths.
>>21509 Well, that article is from 2015 and mentions that in the 10 previous years some titles could have betrayed the trust of fans, which couldn't be more true with 06 and RoL being inside that time span, among others that also greatly disappointed like Lost World. At least judging by the comments in the latest article people seem to be quite redpilled about Sega's little PR tricks with most of the comments pointing out the obvious, so it seems they'll not get away with it with just with empty PR. On the other hand, this also worries me because it's dangerous, this will explode very loudly if they keep fucking up and I think that will be very bad for Sonic.

Does any of you suppose that after Adventure's overhaul of all of the characters, Sonic's supposed to embody the archetype of Free-spirited Californian Youths from the 80's and 90's? Holy fuck I think the TSSZ account was just nuked. https://twitter.com/tssznews [http://archive.is/dHCpZ] Apparently things might have gone sour between the staff because of them exclusively reporting the nig chimpout on the account, but I'm not sure if they nuked the account themselves or what. http://archive.is/B9N01 >>21575 This one >>21559

>>21577 Well, shit, it's dead. RIP TSSZ. http://www.tssznews.com/ [http://archive.is/uvZi0]
>>21578 The year started off crazy as it is. I almost shudder to think what will happen in the end.
>>21578 Not that I wanna bring off-topic shit to this board, but while I don't blame people on the site for talking about everything that's going on IRL, the way they handled it was pretty stupid & it doesn't surprise me that SSF1991 left the place despite being one of the biggest pieces of the site. Not that I ever relied on the site much, TSSZ was one of the last vestiges of old Sonic fan sites that came from the late-90s & lasted the entire time. I know SonicRetro, SOAH are still around but how many other sites from that era are still active? Can't be that many left.
>>21581 Also wew lad, they are getting shat on from all directions right now. SSMB, the Sonic Hacking folks etc. Did not know that TSSZ almost lost us the prototypes of Sonic 1, how the dude running the site (who caused this mess anyways) was acting like a dick to Ian Flynn & Tyson Hesse, as well. With all of those things in mind, it kind of makes it seem like the place shutting down was more of a long time coming tbh.
Oh & I guess we lost this, for what it's worth https://twitter.com/Dreadknux/status/1267214513138524161?s=20
On a lighter note, given that it's now June & we're expecting some kind of an announcement this month, any guesses?
>>21581 >TSSZ was one of the last vestiges of old Sonic fan sites that came from the late-90s & lasted the entire time Yeah, it's sad. I did rely on them a bit, they usually reported on most things and did it pretty fast, and overall it was all very accessible. Well, maybe not so much as of late where they started to use really clickbaity titles on twitter and giving no real information to redirect all traffic to their site. That was jewish. But I always liked that they seemed to try hard to give fans content. They usually went to all the conventions and panels and livestreamed them even when there was no official livestream, they did their interviews and stuff, etc >>21582 I think I knew there was a rivaly with SSMB but I didn't really think much of it, and I didn't know about anything else. It feels they literally walked in front of the firing squad by even coming close to this stuff. >>21583 Oh, damn, that reminds me there were a few interviews they did recently that I was looking forward to but didn't get to watch yet. Their twitch is still up, I'll try to rip them up ASAP.

>>21584 In theory we should get that famed article this Thursday. Also it seems there was a leak for upcoming PS5 games including games that are to come out 12+ months from now like the 30th anniversary Sonic game would, and there was no mention of anything Sonic. Some people were speculating that Sega got bought by another publisher, which I fucking hope it not to be the case. Other than that it's just a little bit over 3 weeks for Sonic's birthday! I hope things go well for the blue porcupine's day and things are a bit less fucked up than they are now. In theory it should coincide with a Sega livestream on one of the online gaming events that popped up after the cancellation of literally everything else, hope that's also good.
>>21578 >complain about people wanting escapism >site that's focused primarily on video games Really?

Oh hey we saging.
>>21578 Seems like this was morr of a tipping point than anything. It was a stupid move to bring up personal shit and it was even more retarded to stand by it when it was unnecessary, but this little issue certainly wasn't the whole reason why the guy decided to shut down without even letting anyone else involved to know. Rest in f I guess.
>>21589 Yeah. I get that he felt the need to speak his mind on something, but that's what personal twitter accounts are for. Trying to compare real world events to Sonic games just comes off as really short-sighted & doubling down on people telling him to stop was just setting himself up for something like this. Also I guess I'll make the new thread.
New thread >>21591
Ah
