Don't forget the global announcement this week

This is the official support thread for https://8chan.tv/ What is this site? A place for anons to stream anything they'd like. You can stream any video you'd like, and users can join chat anonymously. Streams can also be embedded elsewhere for easy sharing. Chat is built around XMPP, so you can connect with any Jabber client. Streams are generic RTMP streams, so you can connect and view them directly. For example, you can watch a stream in VLC instead of on the website. What can't it do? The site supports uploading videos and storing clips, but these features are currently disabled. If there's strong interest, I can make it available, but I'd need a way to pay for storage space. Why should I use this? The goal is to provide anons with an easy, convenient way to get a media stream. Other sites actively police uploads to enforce "community guidelines". It can be inconvenient to share some media as a result. The site isn't working well! Leave a reply here describing the problem. If you're having performance issues, I can help diagnose. If the site is being used heavily and begins to struggle, I can download more RAM to make it go faster. I'll be doing some streams myself in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for announcements.

>>7672 Not currently but I'm going to probably submit a patch for that. I gotta fix the booru first, though.
>>1519 May I be reminded which homeserver the Matrix is on? I lost access to my old matrix account.
Codex, can you pause the booru recovery for at least a week to fix critical stream stability issues? It would help a lot considering that people are using it and it keeps dropping.
>>7686 >It's been a week. FIX THE HICCUPS CODEX
>>7686 It's been over a month, issues still exist.
None of these categories match my channels topic, I stream animation, could you please add an animation/cartoons category?
Small bug. The "currentViews" field on the 8chan.tv API shows 1 eventhought a channel is not currently livestreaming, for instance: https://8chan.tv/apiv1/channel/cd58f328-28cd-4566-b2e7-0eacca85a63d Pic related shows the field showing a 1 despite not being currently active.
>>7807 From reports I've received, the issues are still present but not as bad as they once were. I've also submitted logs and some feedback to the developer and he is going to make some performance enhancements to mitigate. I do not know when that patch will be available. I would also expect a database dump at some point in the future, just to rule out the database as a concern. >>7817 I'd probably just list it under "Kinography" as a catch-all media streaming category, but next time I'm in the admin panel I can add a dedicated Animation one.
Two more bugs. When connecting through an LA based VPN, I was logged out everytime I started streaming with Firefox. I don't know why this happened. Second is the entire site just dying and being unresponsive. Stream issues aside, it's not a good thing to wait 5 minutes for the site to decide it wants to live again while trying to stream.
>>7874 One more, a person joining a room causes it to lag

Full update on state of things: Figuring that the problems plaguing the site are the result of a bad database after deliberation and consultation with the dev of OSP, we moved to test this theory on watch.8ch.moe by using a fresh DB. The stress test went well, but we've migrated the "bad" DB over to the test site and it hasn't exhibited the expected issues as of yet. This could be because it takes a few days for these issues to begin presenting or this could be because the DB isn't actually to blame--at least not solely. Taking this opportunity to rule out another potential cause, we dismounted the S3 bucket from 8chan.tv and the issues we're all aware of seem to have immediately been resolved. This seemed very unlikely and we believe further testing is necessary, so we'll be leaving both sites up for a week or so. Please use both over this duration for testing purposes and take note of any connectivity issues. Are things stable across the board? Do they get worse? We're looking to see if this is just a temporary stability or if it's more permanent. What we'll do moving forward depends on this upcoming week; we may nuke the site and start fresh to rule out anything like a config problem if issues persist and we may contact the host if things don't improve after that. We'll see what happens and move from there. Lastly, both Codexx and myself would like to offer a sincere thanks to everyone for their patience and willingness to help support the site by acting as testers. It's genuinely really helpful. Thank you.
I've decided to terminate the database experiment. The stability of both sites seems correlated to the use of S3 buckets for remote file storage. The test site will be used to test a software upgrade for stability, and then I'll take it out back and shoot it send it to a lovely datacenter in the countryside. The experiment on the production box will continue. I have restored the media, and you can all feel free to upload stickers, edit stream images, etc. The data is being stored outside the bucket for the time being. At some point in the future, I will tinker with fixes for the S3 issue. I've got a couple solutions lined up, I just want to be sure the site is actually stable before trying to measure a performance difference. Please continue to use 8chan.tv as normal. If you encounter stability issues, severe lag, or streams cutting out, please report it immediately. Thank you all for the help and support.
>>7900 (Checked) Nigger. Stop using buckets in your backbone, they're prone to leaks. Thanks for doing something about it Codexx. Had a bit of dropped frames, but no disconnection so far. Much better than before but that was a low bar to begin with :^)
>>7903 Some kind of networked storage is a requirement if I want to eventually add additional frontend nodes or offer any form of video clipping or hosting. If you have experience with S3 or similar and want to help out, I would be happy to consult you for advice. When it comes to web technology, I'm pretty cloud-resistant, so it's not really in my wheelhouse. Unfortunately, newer software tends to assume you're going to run things using cloud infrastructure, and developers are not optimizing for traditional hosting methods.

Eltonel is tentatively planning to stream this Thursday. Probably around 9 or 10 AM UTC. That's going to be around 1 or 2 Pacific or 4 or 5 Eastern. He will be finishing up the site's emotes and soliciting recommendations for an additional one. More info and an exact time to follow.
>>8097 That guy
How about changing the default video sorting on the home page to descending date? I don't think sorting by views is well suited to the site as it currently is.
>>8121 Done. Not sure why By Views is the default setting.

INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
I know what the problem is and I'm working on it.
>>8164 Still buffers from time to time
>>7900 Site is down again
Videos and clips are currently non-operational
>>8180 Videos and clips will be disabled in the short term. I will restore them for a day or two in the future so you guys can download them. I will wait for suds to return so he can coordinate with everyone. I will need to seek out alternative network storage solutions.
Login is currently broken, the login button refreshes the page instead of logging me in half the time, the other half I'm getting logged out after only two page loads at most
>>8184 I've had that happen to me as well. Try again and it should eventually work. I've reported it upstream.
