How do you stream?

You can drop that into anything that supports streaming media. OBS is the obvious example, but I've been doing my test streams just using FFMPEG. I believe the encoding must be H.264 MP4. It's recommended you set there to be 1 keyframe per second. Once you start streaming, it will automatically go live.

Streams don't seem to load over any tor connections.

But changing the bitrate and keyframes really shouldn't affect color that much. It sounds a lot more like a difference between two monitors. Its be careful with how you do emotes/images, cytube has run into a bit of potential security concerns with whatever ranging file hosts. Maybe whitelist it outright to known legit hosts.

Clicking the "my channels" leads to a 500 internal server error been like this since the whole site died a couple days ago and haven't been able to get to my settings to grab my stream key since i changed my settings in OBS for twitch and when i tried to switch back the settings for streaming here they had reset.

Is there a way to link 8ch streams to cytube?

On Cytube, there is an "Embed iFrame" option next to the Embed Media button. Paste the HTML you copied earlier and it should embed. There are some issues with scrollbars. You can fix these with CSS by disabling overflow. Might also be able to reduce the size of the embedded object a little by playing with the width and height parameters. It seems like Cytube expects a particular size and the streaming platform defaults to one slightly too large.

Just tested this earlier, there's about half a minute of delay, which is the same thing I experience on peertube instances that allow live streaming... Is there any way this can be optimized for low latency? If not, are there any other services that are?

Ok, none of this makes any sense to me. The address does nothing, not even with the stream key, and none of the options in the channel page, even on the gear tab, say "start streaming" or "go to room" or whatever. I don't understand how to start the stream, even get the room going, so I can't test to see if it works. A step by step guide would be appreciated. I got OBS up and running, but that's it.

How much bandwidth can I use? Is the server still set to use one keyframe?

I've been having an issue with some streams just endlessly buffering and the stream never starting. It doesn't affect all streams just some of em. Really weird. Its not my internet or the browser. I tried multiple. Pretty sure its a site issue.

Software Upgrade Completed The site is now on the latest stable release. There have been a bunch of stability improvements, bug fixes, and changes that affect the API and server-side configuration. On the user-facing side, the two big features are Reactions/Emotes/"Stickers" in chat and guests can now name themselves similar to Cytube. I will accept submission for global reactions. Additionally, they can be set per-channel under Channels -> Select a channel -> Chat (speech bubble icon) -> Chat Stickers. You can also selectively disable guests joining, or picking their own names, from this menu.

Tried streaming jackbox and let other anons join in. The delay is massive on both mine and their end,streaming is sadly unusable. Not sure whether you can do anything about it.

A Brief Update I'm currently watching the GPU market. I would really like to nab an Arc A40, but it's not widely available and most other Arc GPUs are oversized or cost more than I'd like to pay per unit. Plus, they're all backordered. This is advantageous, because I can hope that new Epycs release in the meantime. If they do, we should see a glut of cheap last-generation servers flood the market. So I apologize for the additional wait, but I think having AV1 support and a newer generation of Epyc is worth it. This could potentially extend the lifespan of the server by years. I'm just as eager to get my hands on the parts and start tinkering as you guys are to see the hardware upgrade. I'll have more updates soon. It's worth pointing out again the password recovery feature is still borked. Now I don't mind making new accounts each time I forget but it'd be much more convenient to fix the feature.

New Domain The site has moved to https://8chan.tv While I had planned on using the original domain forever, but the service outgrew the subdomain. I might still host temporary/beta services as subdomains, but most projects will probably be launched on their own domain from now on. Software Upgrade The site is now updated and running version 0.9.x of the software. Hopefully updates will be cleaner in the future, but the new policy is I cannot promise data will be retained successfully until the software is out of beta and stable! Unfortunately, it seems the database from the old release cannot be made compatible with the new version of the software. We cannot put off the upgrade any longer. You will need to create a new account and add any channels you want. On the bright side, you can now use custom guest names, and chat supports emotes. There are a bunch of other quality of life features, including private channels, adding moderators, etc, that make it well worth the switch. E-mails E-mails now work and verification is required to sign up. Gmail doesn't seem to like the messages, however. If you have any difficulty registering, or you insist on using a Gmail to log in, then please contact myself or Suds and we can manually override. I cannot promise you will receive notification e-mails on a Gmail account. Community Speaking of Suds, I have promoted him to Community Manager. Small bug. The "currentViews" field on the 8chan.tv API shows 1 eventhought a channel is not currently livestreaming, for instance: https://8chan.tv/apiv1/channel/cd58f328-28cd-4566-b2e7-0eacca85a63d Pic related shows the field showing a 1 despite not being currently active.

Two more bugs. When connecting through an LA based VPN, I was logged out everytime I started streaming with Firefox. I don't know why this happened. Second is the entire site just dying and being unresponsive. Stream issues aside, it's not a good thing to wait 5 minutes for the site to decide it wants to live again while trying to stream.

Full update on state of things: Figuring that the problems plaguing the site are the result of a bad database after deliberation and consultation with the dev of OSP, we moved to test this theory on watch.8ch.moe by using a fresh DB. The stress test went well, but we've migrated the "bad" DB over to the test site and it hasn't exhibited the expected issues as of yet. This could be because it takes a few days for these issues to begin presenting or this could be because the DB isn't actually to blame--at least not solely. Taking this opportunity to rule out another potential cause, we dismounted the S3 bucket from 8chan.tv and the issues we're all aware of seem to have immediately been resolved. This seemed very unlikely and we believe further testing is necessary, so we'll be leaving both sites up for a week or so. Please use both over this duration for testing purposes and take note of any connectivity issues. Are things stable across the board? Do they get worse? We're looking to see if this is just a temporary stability or if it's more permanent. What we'll do moving forward depends on this upcoming week; we may nuke the site and start fresh to rule out anything like a config problem if issues persist and we may contact the host if things don't improve after that. We'll see what happens and move from there. Lastly, both Codexx and myself would like to offer a sincere thanks to everyone for their patience and willingness to help support the site by acting as testers. It's genuinely really helpful. Thank you.

I've decided to terminate the database experiment. The stability of both sites seems correlated to the use of S3 buckets for remote file storage. The test site will be used to test a software upgrade for stability, and then I'll take it out back and shoot it send it to a lovely datacenter in the countryside. The experiment on the production box will continue. I have restored the media, and you can all feel free to upload stickers, edit stream images, etc. The data is being stored outside the bucket for the time being. At some point in the future, I will tinker with fixes for the S3 issue. I've got a couple solutions lined up, I just want to be sure the site is actually stable before trying to measure a performance difference. Please continue to use 8chan.tv as normal. If you encounter stability issues, severe lag, or streams cutting out, please report it immediately. Thank you all for the help and support.
