Invidious and FreeTube need help Anonymous 05/26/2023 (Fri) 21:09:35 No. 12213
To anyone who knows how to code and how Internet browser video players work, Invidious and FreeTube need help fixing videojs-http-source-selector and videojs-quality-selector so they can use the latest version of VideoJS in their applications. VP9 and AV1 can't be used right now as VideoJS 7.x doesn't support WebM. Using Version 8 would fix this problem. Relevant links: https://github.com/iv-org/invidious/issues/2848 https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/videojs-http-source-selector https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/videojs-quality-selector https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube/pull/3482
>>12213 >Using Version 8 would fix this problem. I don't think it's the best idea to force a new version of VideoJS since according to https://github.com/iv-org/invidious/issues/3042#issuecomment-1101157073 Invidious is intended to work in all possible browsers (including old smartphones or smart TVs and consoles whose software is difficult to update). What could be done would be to have both versions of VideoJS and leave version 7 as failback for browsers that do not support the newer version (although it is not a solution that convinces me at all)..
>>12227 Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 shows a completely different player for me when I use Invidious, so I'm pretty sure they already have a fallback in place for legacy browsers.
Bump, as this is still relevant.
Bump.
>>12213 FreeTube is switching to Shaka Player soon. Not sure if the plugins for Video.js will ever get fixed now.
>>13353 >going into the Google ecosystem Why?
Nice job, OP. The thread was pointless.
>>15701 FreeTube seems to be making progress, but it feels like Invidious will never upgrade. And Video.js 8 STILL won't allow for VP9 or Opus.
>>15701 >FreeTube https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube/pull/4978 PR merged. Now we just wait for a new release.
>>16114 >Now we just wait for a new release. Released. https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube/releases/tag/v0.22.0-beta
>>12213 >VP9 YouTube only provides VP9 if a browser or application explicitly requests it. >AV1 Video.js supports AV1, including version 7. That's what the Invidious instances that still work are currently getting if you use DASH. In fact, this is now the ONLY codec that Invidious can use with DASH. >>15899 >And Video.js 8 STILL won't allow for VP9 or Opus. Both Video.js 7 and 8 support Opus, both by itself and with AV1.
>>12213 >Invidious and FreeTube deprecated. use yt-dlp and mpv.
>>16866 >deprecated. Completely untrue, you idiotic retard.
>>16867 It is true and I even told you which software deprecates it. I suppose maybe you are a nigger with too low an IQ to use Whitey-dlp. You were never meant to use computers anyway, Jamal.
>>16904 You absolute fucking fool. Neither piece of software has been deprecated. They are actively been worked on, and while Invidious is mostly nonfunctional at the moment, FreeTube still works. Worthless retarded nigger, I fucking swear.
>>16907 Deprecated meaning there is superior software now available, and continued use of FreeTube/Invidious is not recommended. Look up the definitions of the word. It doesn't matter if Invidious still has maintainers or if FreeTube still works. yt-dlp is objectively superior and there is no valid use case to use the shittier options. Windows Media Player is still updated and "works," nevertheless, it is deprecated by mpv/MPC/et al.
>>16907 uTorrent is maintained and "works," do you shill for that software too?
>>16913 You can't browse on yt-dlp. Browsing on YouTube is what we're trying to avoid because it's absolute shit, but you have to do it to copy the link to yt-dlp.
it used to have so many public instances but youtube api changes are an increasing pain in the ass and for a while only fijxu's worked. you have to trust those niggas to not be glowies, but also self-hosting defeats the purpose of anonymity so whatever
>>17466 youtube-local is self-hosted and anonymous
>>17470 Youtube-local had been broken for months. Did they finally fix it?
>>17471 No, my bad I just checked. What I just started was setup an instance of tubearchivist and just keep a backup of what I want to watch, that way it's guaranteed to always work. It's really only good for channels/playlists you already know will be good, but I guess that's the best way to use YouTube in the first place.
>>17465 >You can't browse on yt-dlp. Yes, thank you. >Browsing on YouTube is what we're trying to avoid because it's absolute shit, but you have to do it to copy the link to yt-dlp. Well, no, most people using Invidious are also trying to avoid ads and trackers. >>17466 >you have to trust those niggas to not be glowies A (no-log) VPN + Mullvad Browser combination, which you should always be using anyway, will protect you from that regardless.
