I used an OCR app to get the japanese characters and a combination of deepl, google translate and my weeb-level less-than-basic japanese (plus a dash of creative freedom) to translate. A couple of things worthy of note: 1.The OCR app craps the bed the moment the text becomes erratic and hard to read, which happens an awful lot when depicting characters going crazy from tickles (the best parts, usually), or the font isn't neat, plain and not handwritten. Both these things are annoying, but happen a lot of the time for sfx and laughter sounds, which are great, but hardly essential and I can kinda recognize anyway (and could probably get away with making up on my own, honestly). It also pretty much disqualifies any picture that doesn't have computer text over solid color backgrounds from getting this treatment. 2.Since I don't speak japanese, I have no way of knowing wether the translation is suficciently accurate, and the result would probably be qualified from 'serviceable' at best to 'pretty bad' to 'just shitty' when I have to start getting a little too creative. This kind of translation works only for those with low standards, like me, and is in no way going to replace an actual translator's work. 3.Anybody can do this. It takes very little skill, only the use of free tools, and surprisingly little time, specially if you skip the typsetting part. Overall, I'd describe the experience as medium-to-low effort, low-to-medium-to-high reward, depending on the amount of text, how good the translator performs, how much you care about making it better, how much it ends up adding to the pic, etc. I can definitely see myself getting slightly better at it with time, and very slowly working my way into translating some of my favorite doujins in a month or so, doing about a page a day. It wouldn't replace an actual professional translation, but I'm not picky so it would work for me and it would be free, of course. It could get some works that haven't gotten any attention to a barely legible state before someone pays to actually get them translated (if that ever comes to pass), and I think that would be worth it. So, any thoughts, feedback, advice? I'll post some more results to the thread if and when I have them.

This is what I've been working on as of late. https://nhentai.net/g/230976/ Same limitations I brought up before still apply, but overall I'd say the process went fairly smooth. I tried my best with the laughter parts because I really wanted the details of what they were crying about, but again, the app is no bueno there and I had to rely on a combination of context, shody drawings of kanji, referencing the chinese translation, and my own ideas and basic knowledge of hiragana to get something going: the result is sketchy at best whenever anything more than "hahahas" are being thrown around. The same could be said about the rest though, if we're being thoroughly honest. If anybody that actually knows japanese spots any major jarring errors, feel free to call me out, I'll see about fixing them. I like the end result though. Will probably work on some more on the future.

I've been going a little hard these last few weeks as I got a feel for what doing this entails, but I'll settle down into a much slower pace from now on.
