Mind Game Anime Anonymous 11/13/2020 (Fri) 14:38:17 No. 275
I want some anime that have mind games as a major part of the show. I already watched Death Note, Code Geass, Hyouka, Classroom of the Elite, Kaiji, Akagi, No Game No Life (some of it was nonsense, but some of it was really impressive), The Promised Neverland, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (I am mentioning this one even though it wasn't mainly focused on mind games so nobody suggests it anyway), One Outs and Zankyou no Terror (it focused on mind games at the start). Please tell me of more mind game anime.
>>1215 I heard that Chainsaw Man is surreal but I never heard of it having mind games and so never heard of it having mind games as a major part of the show. What I mean by mind games is a battle of wits; does Chainsaw Man really have that? Given how popular it is, I doubt it given no anime reviewer I follow has mentioned the mind games. >>1210 I also saw Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers. Apparently the light novel is very good in this department and the anime only adapts the weakest volume; which is widely considered to be the first volume.
sounds like you already watched most of the good ones OP. I like JoJo part 2 personally, its great to see how Joseph creatively uses situations to his advantage and get through ridiculous odds, some might be considered a bit ridiculous but I didn't mind since it was very fun. Itachi has some incredible mindgames in Naruto, though if you don't really like the show otherwise, its probably not gonna be your thing, and he's only a somewhat small part of it. Some characters have mindgames within combat like Shikamaru but I don't think I'd call it a "major" part of the show like it is for the types of shows you already listed.
>>1217 Chainsaw man is a mindfuck not because of chainsaw man himself, but the supporting cast who are so fucked in the head it is quality entertainment. But that would have to be experienced personally instead of relying on 3rd parties.
>>1221 And yes CM's battle of wits are there because of the fucked up cast.
I was recommended Sagrada Reset on Nanochan's anime board CP SITE ~ REPORT MEa/ and watched ten episodes. It's pretty engaging so far, watching the protagonists figure out tricks that can be used with their group's supernatural powers and investigate potential loopholes with them is quite fun. >>1220 I've heard Jojo is more intellectual than it seems and that the fights do depend on some creative use of powers; I may try it out. >>1222 If you insist there are mind games, I might try it out. In which episode do the mind games start?
>>1224 Part 2 specifically is the most creative and best uses with mindgames (episode 10-26 of the first season of 2012 adaptation), the first part is not really like that, and the later parts are more "superpowers" through stand abilities and simple fun Start with part 2, no need to watch part 1 unless you like it, since it's not great imo All you would really need to know from it is stone masks turn people into vampires, who have powerful abilities, and hamon is a technique using light from breathing exercises, and some stuff about Dio and the origin of Jojo I guess)
I finished Sagrada Reset yesterday and found it very good. Is there anything else in non-anime otaku media, like light novels, manga and visual novels? I read the Death Note, Liar Game and Gambling Legend Zero mangas and am keeping up with Talentless Nana and am planning on reading Usogui and Kusuriya No Hitorigoto/The Apothecary Diaries/The Pharmacist's Monologues mangas. For light novels, Classroom of the Elite, The Empty Box And The Zeroth Maria and Rokka: Braves Of The Six Flowers are the ones most frequently mentioned on the light novel subreddit and I am currently going through The Empty Box And The Zeroth Maria, enjoying it quite a bit. For visual novels, I quite liked Your Turn To Die and The Devil on G-String/G-Senjou no Maou and am playing Umineko's demo (I also played Danganronpa but that isn't a battle of wits but a mystery).
You might want to check out Munouna Nana. It's about a school for super powered high schoolers learning to fight "the enemy of humanity", aliens that can supposedly take human form and pretend to be human. The government sends an assassin into this school to kill the kids out of fear of what those kids will be able to do if they actually learn to control their powers. Said assassin has no powers, so there's Death Note tier mental gymnastics done to not get caught by the students.
>>1821 Munou na Nana is Talentless Nana in English, which I said I already saw in >>1210 and am keeping up with the manga in >>1805.
I heard good things about Death Parade, it sounds like it involves mind games?
>>2399 I saw the first few episodes a while ago and there were no mind games. While the anime is strongly focused on psychology, at no part does someone attempt to outsmart the other.
I also heard of Spiral The Bonds of Reasoning, Btoom, Shoukoku no Altair, World Trigger, Blast of Tempest, ID Invaded and Arpeggio of Blue Steel. I watched Spiral The Bonds of Reasoning to a bit into episode four and no battle of wits happened yet. Are these any good? Anything else?
Have you watched Higurashi when they cry? Its pretty messed up, but the writing is great. Death parade was pretty good too
>>3257 I watched Higurashi up to and including Kira. I do not recall it focusing on a battle of wits, with the exception of Kai's final episodes, and I thought that the battle of wits was poorly done. I already addressed Death Parade's first few episodes in >>2415; if you insist on recommending it, where do the mind games start?
Anybody still here?
>>3302 I am but unfortunately I could not really find much in the way of more mind game anime's unfortunately.
>>3248 After rewatching Sagrada Reset, I watched Spiral The Bonds Of Reasoning up to and excluding episode seven and a battle of wits did happen; I quite enjoyed the tricks each side used so far, with the exception of one trick which makes no sense to me, which I asked about in >>3357.
I finished Spiral: The Bonds Of Reasoning a few days or a week or so ago and quite liked it, despite the extremely inconclusive ending.
I just finished watching Joker Game. Some of it was cool but often I thought some of the tricks came from nothing (microfilms and such being embedded in objects, which of course means the viewer cannot see them) and sometimes following along an episode was quite hard. That being said, I thought episode six was very good and I thought it was quite clever.
Someone on Leftychan recommended me the visual novel Arknights (probably, the recommendation post http://leftychans5gstl4zee2ecopkv6qvzsrbikwxnejpylwcho2yvh4owad.onion/ent/res/8256.html#9004 has it spelled 'Arkinghts'). Does anybody have any thoughts on it?
>>3796 Isn't that a gacha?
>>3798 I looked it up and it apparently has gacha mechanics. It is a game only available on the phone so I will not get it. I brought this up in the linked Leftychan thread in >>3796.
I heard that Summertime Rendering is rather similar to Sagrada Reset, which became one of my favourite anime. Are there clever schemes all throughout the show like in Sagrada Reset?
I started reading Spiral: The Bonds Of Reasoning manga and am quite enjoying it. I read up to and excluding chapter 22; which was adapted to the anime with some minor changes.
>>3870 https://archive.org/details/manga_Spiral_Suiri_no_Kizuna/ is where I downloaded the manga from, just to let people know.
>>3887 I heard Mind Game doesn't actually have a battle of wits or clever schemes in it. Are you saying that contrary to what I've heard, they are actually a major part of the plot?
>>3887 I heard Mind Game doesn't actually have a battle of wits or clever schemes in it. Are you saying that contrary to what I've heard, they are actually a major part of the plot, or is this a joke?
Moderators, please delete this post and >>3892. I decided to add more to my post after I pressed the reply button, so I clicked the 'stop loading' button in my browser but I guess it didn't stop it being posted anyway.
>>3894 You should be able to delete your own post though?

>>3893 It was just a joke.
I finished Spiral: The Bonds Of Reasoning manga less than a week ago and found it quite good. I am watching Summertime Rendering, I watched up to and including episode 11; there are not as many clever schemes as Sagrada Reset during that time but information crucial to the plot and starting a cat and mouse game was dropped so I will continue watching.
Gods' Games We Play's synopsis mentions it focuses on brain games so I will watch it. https://anidb.net/anime/17146
I heard that World Trigger has very strategic fights, so I intend to watch it; can anybody confirm or deny the strategic fighting? I will watch Gods' Games We Play (as I wrote in >>3930 ) when it is finished airing, so I haven't seen any of it and so can't comment on it.
>>3930 I finished watching Gods' Games We Play a day or two ago and thought it was quite good. The games maintained consistent quality and clever twists. They never reached No Game No Life's materilization shirtori game's quality (episode six) but neither were any of its games disappointing (like they were in No Game No Life, where a 'B' in a differential equation the viewer was never shown stood for 'brother' and a chess game where the pieces have wills of their own is won through a speech about cuteness instead of anything resembling a strategy).
>>1805 I finished reading Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers and found it very good, with clever schemes impressing me all the way through. My favourite volumes were two and three, which I couldn't put down after I read a little bit of them. >>4164 I watched up to and including episode 35 of World Trigger and find it quite impressive, after a mediocre start. The battles are indeed rather strategic, with Osamu's fight against one of the A-ranks in the training chamber (I think it was around episode 20) staying in my head. >>3903 I finished Summertime Rendering a while ago and found it rather mediocre. I wasn't impressed by most of the mind games and it turned into a fighting anime later on and I didn't notice much strategy in the fights. I think I watched with rather long breaks in between some episodes and this contributed to my bad impression. I might watch it again. I heard the Great Pretender has mind games; is this true and if so are they a major part of the show? Any other recommendations?
