Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anonymous 10/19/2022 (Wed) 14:21:59 No. 1168
Let's talk about this shit. I know it's Netflix shit, but I was quite impressed by the quality. There are no plans for a second season, and I think that's for the better, the ending is perfect, but there's always the chance that they'll try and do a memory clone asspull or say that Adam Smasher didn't really kill David and Arasaka captured him for research.
Somebody post webms or else I'm never gonna care
It was decent, that's all I'll say Wasn't shit, wasn't amazing, better than mediocre or average
>>1168 >>1196 It is slightly above average just like you said, not even studio trigger's best work. It has its moments in the downtime, when action isn't happening. Remember its the normalfags cheering like its best anime evar when they only watch this or bnha. Also having a cyberpunk setting helped in getting the pretty visuals people are liking the most, not that cyberpunk settings are explored in anime in past 5 years
>>1279 Personally I preferred it over GitS, at least over the movie I watched. Its basically just a violent character drama in a cyberpunk setting with cyberpunk problems, rather than a pretentious wank-off on "what-ifs", where either nothing happens, or its convoluted as fuck otherwise. At least in the movie, GitS felt closer to the latter and it was pretty fucking boring and tedious. Personally, I just don't think I like cyberpunk, period. Only cyberpunk works I liked thus far have been the original Blade Runner, and Edgerunners (oh, and the Shadowrun video games but that's something different entirely) Watched shit like GitS, Psycho-Pass, Cowboy Bebop, Blade Runner 2049, etc. and had a close friend who told me about some of the others like Jin-Roh and Akira and whatnot. Most of them are just too nihilistic, pretentious, boring/convoluted/unimpactful, and with mediocre if not bad themes for me to enjoy. I want a cyberpunk setting where there is someone who fights back against the shitty world and its wrongs, like a freedom fighter/resistance type shit; instead its all "everything is hopeless and everyone is gay, just give up and give in" shit, or transhumanist thought experiments. At least Edgerunners was simple and had its moments, though it was frustrating that the only characters who had common sense and understanding was the MC's mom, Rebecca, and the giga-nigger's hideous tranny-looking GF. Everyone basically helped make their own problems and lied immensely to themselves, but at least someone fought for something worth fighting for, even if they did so much retardation and caused a lot of the problems themselves.
>>1279 >gits no points there >>1281 edgerunners on its own is not any huge development with industry impacting value, if it had no cyberpunk branding attached it would be a pretty standard studio trigger affair. It certainly won't have the western normalfag craze (along with netflix pushing it hard as "their" anime), and thus won't have the snob /a/ view towards it. Lucy is better designed but not as fun written. Doesn't matter
>>1281 absolute nigger art kys
>>1322 Nah, I disagree, it almost sounds like you didn't watch the show because this is very different from most cyberpunk works of the past. >naive schoolkid teenager protagonist instead of the usual jaded adult protagonist >a deconstruction of the "coming of age" instead of grand conspiracy or thought experiment plots >character drama/daily life in cyberpunk as opposed to heavy plot focus >difference in style with colorful characters and designs (main characters wears a fucking bright yellow jacket most of the time) with compared to the usual always night-time cyberpunk with dress suits or skin suits it is also not really usual trigger fare because its not really over-the-top (besides the car physics, which I'm pretty sure is a reference/parody poke of the source game's silly physics), and it also has a shit-ton of gore that I have not seen much in anime in the last decade, let alone Trigger. Trigger is more of a company that does a lot of over-the-top style and heavy "fun" fanservice. This is a world filled with drug abuse, cyberware psychosis, rampant prostitution, heavy violence with people's heads getting blown off and brains splattering (literally by pissing crackheads at times), innocent people getting murdered by the protagonist and his friends as well. Cyberpunk has already been changed in the past years recently, this is more an age of "New Cyberpunk" now, where things are more colorful and shit than they were before and less "dark" and they take more tropes from common and popular anime. Also the girls are more likely to have bobcuts and special snowflake hair like these. Plus some markings or patterns or some shit. Edgerunners isn't on its own a huge development yet, yes, but it will continue to move the industry further in that direction due to its massive success and the fact that Trigger is a big and well-known studio exacerbates this. Personally, I'm ambivalent towards these changes.
It impressed the fuck out of me. It was awesome
>>1348 Cyberpunk isn't all conspiracy and huge corporations anon. It hasn't really been the central plotline in anime or in movies but the standard decadence and low life for lower people is viewed plenty, often in a passing window dressing as "these are the people you're fighting for". Shadowrun rpg games and books explore them more. Personally its a showing that how unexplored cyberpunk settings are in general, that's the reason I back in 2013 fell hard for the 2077 teaser trailer. Another reason why I liked the anime (and so does everyone who watched the anime and not the game) is the faithfulness to the original ideas for 2077. The game butchered its narrative and world building was barely explored.

>>1348 Also I did notice now how much the color yellow is being used for cyberpunk animes/media
>>1384 That's the point; its usually just window dressings or background shit if at all. >huge corporations nah, that part is almost a necessity for the vast majority of cyberpunk works, it wouldn't really make much sense otherwise. Again, most cyberpunk does fall into the category of "transhumanist thought experiments" or "conspiracies". >Shadowrun rpg games and books explore them more. Might be part of the reason why I actually like the (video) games for them, but I already said that earlier. Cyberpunk has been around for the past 40 years, which is ages in terms of new media and the time of rapid development, but it is only recently starting to change from the days of the 90s.
How would David's mom react if he dated Becca instead of Lucy?
There's already an Edgerunners thread, fyi >How would David's mom react if he dated Becca instead of Lucy? Well she'd need to be around first, but honestly she was one of the few girls in that show with common sense, I think she would approve if Rebecca cleaned herself up.
>>2088 Sorry had no idea, anon. Will check the catalog better next time. >but honestly she was one of the few girls in that show with common sense, I think she would approve if Rebecca cleaned herself up. Funny I thought she'd hate her more than Lucy.
>>2090 >funny I thought she'd hate her more than Lucy Yes that's a strong possibility, but likely for jealousy reasons amusingly
Rebecca is way too fucking good and does many things to my dick though the fanart definitely makes her look a lot better than the anime did I'll admit. David had bad taste in chicks.
>>2124 Agreed, she's perfect. I would love to turn her into a single mother.
Does anyone have the full version of this one?
