>>70494 Of course it's all pointless. Leftists can't do anything that has an actual point. From the previous thread: https://archive.is/L7DiD
>>70495 I'm inclined to believe it based purely on the clown world we currently live in but I'm going to wait for evidence before I grab the pitchfork. Blizzard did something similar to this recently with a character from WoW where the line "greenskin" was cut from a prominent NPC because it's racist or some shit now.
You know what I miss nowadays? Edgy humor. Shit like the blackface Cell lazor meme, or rape treated as common humor in Youtube Poops, characters being forced into drag with feminine names being a humorous aside instead of some stunning and brave statement, shit where it's clear it's just part of a joke in a ultimately harmless entertainment. Nowadays, fun stuff is all sanitized -- you have a hundred "communities" of minority psychopaths who can and will try to complain to whatever higher authority they can to give you no space to express yourself solely for hurting fee-fees, algorithims who discourage you by presenting the opportunity to be paid, threatening to take your money away if you say a no-no, and hide you from being seen for the sake of sucking up to ad companies if you try not to play their game. Jumping ship to small sites? The only edginess left is boring political shit like how kikes have subverted our country, how the election has been rigged and here's how Trump can still win and other fuck. And I get it's important shit to say, but christ it's all that's ever seen on would-be alt media like Bitchute. Name me a gameplay meme video somewhere, an animator, just some form of parody, SOMETHING that isn't more political shit. No-one's having fun anymore, it's all some sort of statement. I want the 2000s back.
>>70497 Have Daniels' newest video where he gets on the nerves of women of the melanin enriched variety. I hope it cheers you up anon. https://www.yewtu.be/watch?v=slXHhu86SaY
>>70497 I miss that too. I miss a lot of things. I recently replayed Turok 1 and 2 (the nightdive remasters) and I found myself really enjoying the low-poly aesthetic in the games too. And I don't think it's purely nostalgia. I think it's because, back then, it was created with intent to evoke a kind of Platonic Form. You knew it wasn't realistic, but it felt more real for the effort and craftsmanship that went into it to get it to that point. Now we have almost photo-realism and massive poly counts and all these post-proc effects to simulate flaws in human eyes and cameras, and things look worse because there's no craftsmanship to it, to artistry, it's just throwing as much shit as possible at the problem instead of refining it until it's distilled to what it needs to be. The Great Genre Convergence, as I call it, where every game seems to melding into some kind of quasi-open world RPG-lite with perks and generic numbers that get bigger and act as little more than gates to keep you out of content for the sake of feeling like you've "progressed", is an entirely separate but contemporary issue.

>>70499 Ah yes, the "If our game has a little bit of everything, someone is bound to like it" school of retarded thought. Games just can't be focused on one singular thing anymore, everything has to be mixed with everything. You want a shooter where you just go fast and kill shit? too bad, have RPG stats/attributes, crafting, or roguelike elements. Stealth game? have action set pieces and explosions every other mission because being a pure stealth game like Thief is boring for the kiddies these days. Games are all over the fucking place these days because nobody can just agree to a singular vision and build on top of that, instead every cook has to include their own little something to the recipe.

>>70548 That's how all these AIs are. People like to jerk off about how they are almighty and will revolutionise the industry when in reality they are pretty fucking basic. Their only real appeal is two things: automation and the ability to have a brute force solution to a programming problem. Simply having something perform operations automatically is more than enough reason for someone to accept shit-tier results regardless of how trash they are. First pic is something that happened out of pure luck. When I put it in, I was actually surprised to learn that "leaker" and "academician" are actual possible options, since most of what I made simply got labelled as "whiteface" as if calling the person in the image a nigger. To get one decent results I had to go through a couple dozen shit ones. And I legitimately didn't see those two categories of leaker and academician for anyone else's images. Hell, I even saw traitor and tragedienne pop up for people, but no other leakers or academicians.

Far Cry 5 has the worst game ending ever – Reader’s Feature >So, with excitement building for Far Cry 6 it reminded me of my last Far Cry experience – with Far Cry 5. * SPOILERS AHEAD * >During lockdown last year I was furloughed, so I got the chance to play a lot of games. I finally completed The Witcher 3 and all the DLC; Far Cry 5 was on sale and I loved the setting of Montana so thought I would give it a try. >So, I played Far Cry 5 and was loving it! The setting was great (I’m a real sucker for the American wilderness and small towns, having been lucky enough to undertake a few road trips out there). The missions ranging from pure comedy to slightly creepy to just plain mad. Befriending a bear! The crazy stunt missions! I was thoroughly enjoying the whole shebang! >Looking at my history I spent 70 hours in that world. So that’s great isn’t it? >No, no it isn’t. When the game finished I was not happy. That ending was, in my opinion, just awful. So bad it destroyed everything I enjoyed about the game and put me off the Far Cry franchise. Effectively 70 hours ruined by such a depressing ending. >I got the *spoiler* nuclear ending that appears to be canon, but having YouTubed it, unless you do the early ending of not arresting Joseph Seed then the endings are just seriously downbeat.) >Now I know there are times that a shock ending, or a downbeat ending, can work. Especially in films; Night Of The Living Dead is such an iconic film largely because of the ending. As is The Vanishing (original version). >Time invested. Films only last a couple of hours. I’ve watched the odd film where the ending really ruined the film, but you know what? I hadn’t invested nearly three whole days of my life in them, so no great shakes. >Agency (or lack thereof). In a film you have no control over the characters, in a game, even if that agency is ‘false’ (and it usually is because the outcome is still often predetermined) you feel in control of the character. You feel like your actions should make a difference. >In hindsight Far Cry 5 failed because it really gave me no choice other than a ‘bad’ ending. If the developers had built in multiple endings due to choices you make (like Witcher or even, at a more basic level, like Bioshock). Of which ‘good’ outcomes were available I would have accepted it (see my agency point). To give no choice other than ‘bad’ endings really stuck in my craw. >After 70 hours everything I did made no difference – I didn’t help the characters I befriended (indeed I got every single one killed). I made life in Hope County worse by my intervention, not better. If the game had a more dystopian feel maybe it wouldn’t have angered me so much. >So there we go. Rant over. I know some will disagree with me, and that’s fine. But I have been playing games for about 40 years and have never been as dissatisfied by a game…. Even Half-Life not having an ending doesn’t wind me up like Far Cry 5! Journalists still upset and getting triggered by far cry5 ending. https://archive.ph/Ib0g6 Boy injected himself with lethal mercury to be X-Men superhero >The 15-year-old boy reportedly wanted to emulate the superhero Mercury from the Marvel world, but instead just ended up with painful ulcers that refused to heal. In a different barmy scheme he allowed spiders to bite him in a bid to become like the iconic Spider-Man. In the comics Mercury’s body is composed of a non-toxic metal resembling mercury, which she can reshape or solidify at will. >The unusual case was written up in a report in the National Centre for Biotechnology Information, which revealed the injuries suffered by the unnamed child after he deliberately injected mercury into his body. >The teenager inflicted a number of injuries on himself after injecting the poisonous substance (Image: NCBI) He visited a trauma centre in India with “multiple non-healing ulcers on the left forearm”. Medics suspected that substance abuse may have been a factor so carried out a psychiatric evaluation. The teenager revealed he had intentionally injected himself with mercury he had managed to extract from a thermometer at least three times. >The report says that the boy was “inspired” by the character Mercury from the X-Men franchise who has appeared in a number of comics. It added: “Interestingly, he had a past history of multiple bites by spiders to simulate Spider-Man. Surprisingly, he had no other psychiatric problems and had a normal IQ.” Doctors carried out toxicology examinations to check for mercury levels in the teenager’s blood. He had managed to miss all the major blood vessels while injecting the mercury, but the ulcers needed to be cut out and he had to undergo a skin graft. >The boy is expected to make a full recovery. <Beyond Eyes Is Going To Be Delisted Soon >In a Twitter thread, Halatoe outlines her problems with Team17 and confirms that Beyond Eyes will soon be unavailable to purchase. She says that Team17 redefined parts of their publishing agreement without her consent after Beyond Eyes' launch in 2015 and that the publisher either communicated poorly with her or did not communicate at all. Halatoe says this was a "common frustration" with developers who worked with Team17 around the time of Beyond Eyes' launch. She says the process took "a huge toll" on her mental health, and that she and many other developers were "flat out broke" and "industry rookies", which meant they didn't know how to deal with Team17 >Halatoe's issues with Beyond Eyes aren't the first time indie developers have struggled with Team17. Allison Road developer Lilith Ltd split with the publisher back in 2016, less than a year after the launch of Beyond Eyes. Take-Two Files Suit Against Grand Theft Auto Reverse Engineering Project <Grand Theft Auto's publisher has targeted a project that made older titles playable on new platforms. >Take-Two Interactive has filed a suit against contributors to a project called "re3" that reverse engineered Grand Theft Auto III and GTA Vice City to make them playable on new platforms. >Kotaku reported that Take-Two's lawsuit was filed against 14 programmers in the Northern District of California by a Manhattan-based law firm called Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp. >The company is seeking a preliminary injunction and a trial by jury for claims related to the suit. >It seems the biggest problem is that re3 made it possible to play GTA III and GTA Vice City on new hardware The project's contributors say they made the games run on the "Windows, Linux, MacOS and FreeBSD" operating systems and "on x86, amd64, arm and arm64" processors. They had a while to achieve that goal: GTA III was released in 2001, GTA Vice City debuted in 2002, and work on the re3 project started in 2018. Kotaku said the project "has largely avoided legal scrutiny" before now, so it took about three years for Take-Two to take action against it. >It's not hard to guess why that changed. Kotaku reported in August that Grand Theft Auto: Remastered would bring updated versions of GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X PlayStation 4, and PS5 later this year. >Avproject that reverse engineered two of those titles could reduce demand for the remastered versions of the titles, so it makes sense for Take-Two to finally pay attention to re3, even if it was previously unaware of the project or content to let modders tinker with the 20-year-old games. >The code for re3 is currently available on GitHub, but the platform warns that the repository has been archived by its owner, which means it will be read-only unless it's restored. https://archive.ph/F29jw I have no idea why so many people give rockstar games a free pass. 'Battlefield 2042' Is Experiencing Internal Issues, Leaker Claims >The developers of “Battlefield 2042” have been quiet since they showcased Portal Mode, causing some fans to worry about the state of the game’s development. One reliable leaker said that internal issues may be the cause of DICE’s radio silence. >(((Battlefield 2042’s))) development is reportedly going relatively smoothly aside from some minor issues that are preventing DICE from updating the community about the game, renowned leaker Tom Henderson was told by an unnamed insider. >The insider noted that there were some internal delays that happened on the development floor, but they weren’t able to give any specific details. However, the source believes that the delays have no real effect on the game’s release schedule. > Fans have been worried about the developers’ silence ever since they skipped out on Gamescom 2021. Many expected to see some more “Battlefield 2042” gameplay and a first look at the highly-anticipated Hazard Zone game mode. Neither was shown, however, as “Battlefield 2042” was strangely absent from the event. >Rumors and speculations regarding “Battlefield 2042’s” open beta for September suggested that fans will be able to play the game early, either by this week or the next. However, this appears to no longer be the case should the insider’s message to Henderson prove to be true. >The only recent form of communication that the developers have made regarding “Battlefield 2042’s” progress is a tweet from EA’s director of communications for shooters and “Star Wars” Andy McNamara. He said that they are hard at work to make “Battlefield 2042” an amazing experience. >McNamara wrote this tweet as a response to a fan who questioned the developers’ silence after the official “Battlefield” account posted a meme about the upcoming open beta. https://archive.ph/3qUqL

>>70551 I haven't gotten this far in One Piece so this might be irrelevant, but a tidbit from TV Tropes regarding pronouns in Japan: "A Bokukko is, literally, a girl who uses the first-person Japanese Pronoun boku, primarily used by boys and young men. Even with Japanese speech patterns becoming more gender-neutral over the years, this would be considered unusual in real life; nonetheless, it is a common character quirk in anime and Japanese Video Games. Most bokukko are tomboys, but not all; sometimes it just indicates that the user is a Plucky Girl or unaware of social norms. In particular, a Farmer's Daughter or Dark-Skinned Redhead is likely to speak like this. Although none of this has to be reflected in her appearance, bokukko are usually either flat-chested, athletic, or extremely well-endowed. " >TL;DR: A woman using male pronouns is literally just an anime tomboy trope.

Holy shit niggers please help my brain has rotten, ive gotten asinine. I can't hold any attention at all. I can barely get past the opening of newly installed game before reverting to the usual. When I die or lose I instantly exit any game but then fire it up like 2 minutes later. I have degraded to baseline motor function and if anything requires more and fuse out and stop. I can't handle any game that is slow. I can't be bothered to read any fucking text. I feel like should roll off my chair and fall asleep on the floor. I spend too much time just refreshing threads instead of fucking off and playing. This applies to all mediums. Help me my brain is fried.

>>70664 >And reverse engineering is legal No it isn't. The thing about copyrights is that they cover both the source code AND the ideas. Reverse engineering a GTA game is a gray area. If you use the reverse engineered code to create your own game with your own new ideas (new cities to explore, new protagonist, new content, etc), you could probably get away with it. Rockstar can't claim ownership over anything that came from your own artistic vision. But if you just use that code to remake GTA 3 (with Liberty City and all the same content/ideas from the original game) and then try to distribute it, Rockstar could flex their legal muscle and say you don't own the rights to their ideas. You may have recreated the code, but that still doesn't give you the right to use their characters and stories and such.

>>70716 Reverse engineering is not really a gray area. If you reverse-engineer the code, it is your code. The assets however are not yours. The story script is not yours, the 3D models are not yours, the ingame map is not yours, the sound files are not yours, the licensing for the weapons is not yours and the brand name is not yours. The reverse-engineered code itself is 100% yours: you can distribute it, you can license it and you can sell it. The code itself is in no gray area whatsoever, the only place that could count as a gray area is selling a product that is effectively a retexture under a different engine while still under the same brand name. A retexture still uses the same 3D models and it is exactly 3D models that would cause this "gray" area. And the map is also a 3D model, which is something people often forget. If you recreate the 3D model perfectly for the map, you could argue that it is your own, but it should be noted that any time money comes into play, the rules become a whole lot more strict. In theory you can make a perfect replica through reverse-engineering and it would still count as your own, but in practice you want to make it noticably different to minimise the time you have to spend in court proving it by making it obvious at first glance even to the most oblivious of boomer judges that you have made it yourself.

The bank can call the cops on you and they can may prevent you from ever stepping foot in their bank ever again as a result of that announcement, but since you haven't committed a crime neither the bank nor the police can do much about it. If re3 has avoided copy-pasting ANY assets from GTA3 and Vice City, the only way Take-Two can win is if the devs get bullied into submission by legal fees. Take-Two might try to get the standards set even higher by trying to find some sort of monetary benefit that the re3 devs may be getting from making it, but without concrete evidence it's nothing more than sabre-rattling to get the re3 devs to either cuck or crumble under the weight of the legal fees.

You need to devise the problem you are trying to solve in a manner that would allow for such a brute force solution to work. And by knowing what you have put inside and how you put it there you are also influencing your own design choices. >>407371 This is an old image from like 2000s and some of the shit in it (like using piracy as a demo before buying) are legit arguments, but trying to attach some moralistic justification to piracy always seemed kinda insecure. The reality is devs are gonna need money either from the position they're in if they work for a company or to get the resources to make more games if they're indie, and naturally people are going to try and get shit for free when presented with a paywall, and trying to choke that out hurts the consumer more with invasive shit -- case in point, patreon porn artists bending backwards over shit like Kemono.party. It's a balance, pirates won't have shit to pirate unless people are making games, and devs can't stop piracy without hurting the people they're making games for. Simple as that.

If you don't actively defend your ©s and ®s and ™s, you legally forfeit your rights to stop people from infringing on your creations. Remember the sjw faggot who created Pepe the Frog? He wanted to censor Pepe on the net after it became a racist symbol. But because he didn't defend his creation and simply allowed everyone to use it freely, the courts told him he couldn't enforce his IP anymore. Devs like Nintendo and Rockstar don't sue you because they want to. They sue you because they HAVE to, in order to keep their copyrights valid. If they simply allowed anyone to make Mario or GTA games without DMCAing them, they risk relinquishing their IPs to the general public.

>>407428 >There is nothing illegal about rewriting a game and how it should work from scratch as long as you don't look at the original source code. You're completely allowed to analyze how the game itself operates and guess how it was written. There is nothing illegal about this. People did this for WoW, Diablo, FFVIII, some LOTR games, and shitloads of others. It's perfectly legal and there's mountains of precedent for its legality. I remember a story from my hardware course, it wen something like this: A company hired a bunch of programmers and asked them if they ever saw the code from a certain commercial software. Once all of them said no, they all signed on it and went into complete isolation. They were then given a set of inputs and outputs and were tasked with coming up with an algorithmic solution that would give up that output when given those inputs. They then released this software as commercial, in direct competition with the software from which they obtained the input/output lists. It was completely legal. The software would accept saved inputs from the competing software and would work flawlessly to give the desired output.

>>70835 >but i do know a lot of really fucking awful Hellraiser movies were made for the sake of keeping the rights to the franchise That's licensing, which is it's own legal works. From what I know with those, depending in how the licensing contract is setup, companies may be required to use the property within a certain amount of time, otherwise their ownership of the property will default and revert back to the original rights holders (The ones who actually own the original copyrighted work). In the case of Hellraiser, that may have to do with whatever licensing contract they setup with Clive Barker, similar to Sony's license over the F4 and Spider-Man.
>>70835 >sake of keeping the rights to the franchise That's because movie rights (and book right, game rights, etc.) are basically leased from the rights holder. There's usually some stipulation in the contract that if the person or consortium that buys the rights fails to produce any thing with them within a certain number of months/years then the rights revert to the original holder. So what directors or movie producers will do is try and produce something, even if horrible, if rights are about to lapse and there's any inkling that what they licensed could become a valuable property in the future. This is how Roger Corman's Fantastic Four came into being. That's probably why there's a ton of low budget DTV sequel that get made too. This has nothing to do with copyright and has everything to do with terms of a contract.

>>70845 >you can't just go and reverse engineer just about anything for any and all reasons That seems very odd. Is it a common part of the EULA/terms and conditions that literally nobody cares to read?

Could you get away with making a Castlevania clone where you play as a a warrior with a whip fighting Count Dracula and a bunch of monsters ripped off from Universal and Hammer movies without pissing off the legal department of what's left of Konami? Just by the book you should be able too as long as you don't call anyone Belmont and don't reference any other trademarked characters and concepts. Epyx, Inc. 862 F.2d 204, 9 U.S.P.Q.2d (BNA) 1322 (9th Cir. 1988) is a court case in which Data East, a video game manufacturer, contended that Epyx, a competing video game manufacturer, licensed and distributed a video game, International Karate, that infringed on the copyright of a video game developed by Data East, Karate Champ. After a district court sided with Data East, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit court on appeal reversed the decision of copyright infringement. This judgment was based on the lack of "substantial similarity" between the games, because the identified similarities were inherent to all karate video games. And, Data East was around for Round Two, except was the accused this time: https://infogalactic.com/info/Fighter%27s_History#History At the time of the first game's release, Capcom U.S.A. sued Data East Corp. over Fighter's History due to what Capcom U.S.A. felt were infringements on its Street Fighter II property. Capcom also filed similar claims against Data East in Japan. Data East Corp.'s largest objection in court was that their 1984 arcade game Karate Champ was the true originator of the competitive fighting game genre, which predated the original Street Fighter by three years. Judge Orrick set an October 31, 1994 trial date, stating that he could not deny "the strong evidence that it set out to copy Street Fighter's success," noting similarities such as a Chun-Li clone and several comparable special moves. However, Capcom U.S.A. lost the case on grounds that the copied elements were scenes a faire and thus excluded from copyright.

>>70851 >So for it to be "acceptable" to pirate, you'd want to have a reason beyond just wanting the game for free. Pirating doesn't solve anything, smart one. Companies have started banking in on the fact that pirates are people who talk to people like customers do. In fact, they don't even have to convince pirates to even buy the game since they'll pirate the game anyway (Because they're pirates) just to say that they did and will talk to non-pirates who WILL buy the game.
>>407462 In most cases, but not always. I still wish I had a notepad++ version on my damn Linux install and it's retarded that it's windows only despite being FLOSS. Either way, the important bit is that reversing something is not something you can just take for granted, there are some protections but not a lot of them and it's not something so clear cut, and when there are plenty of cases where companies file lawsuits as just another strategy having little to do with actual law or rights, you could just as likely end up with a lawsuit at your doorstep like these guys even if you did nothing wrong. The EFF has an article on this but it peeves me that it feels like it goes out of its way to be unhelpful other than the part about precedent and even then most of the examples are stuff everyone has heard of at this point already. https://www.eff.org/issues/coders/reverse-engineering-faq Besides the current discussion, one part of that article is interesting because it contradicts something that's usually mentioned a lot in these threads: >BnetD programmers agreed to Blizzard’s EULA and Battle.net’s TOU before reverse engineering the game to create BnetD. The EULA and TOU expressly prohibited reverse engineering and hosting of Blizzard games on other servers. The Eighth Circuit held that these mass-market click-through licenses were enforceable contracts and that the programmers violated several parts of Blizzard's EULA, including the section on reverse engineering

>>407477 >>70866 Ah, that makes a lot more sense. It's less about justifying the fact you're doing something that's considered "dubious" in circles, and more about explaining why you're willing to go down a risky route compared to going legit, as well as exposure from the fact they talk with people about the game since they still consume. Thanks for the explanation.

So, at this point, failing to understand what rights you do and don't have is more an act of stupidity than anything else.

>>407492 >It's fucking stupid that all it takes to make a legal act criminal is to put in your EULA "Hey you can't do this legal thing because I say so". No, it's not. As I saw someone put it, the way U.S. law and commerce is designed, it's based upon the concept that the "average individual" is intelligent enough to understand what rights they are forfeiting by entering into an agreement. So, when you get down to it, you should have "known" what you are and are not allowed to do when you bought the software; and, if you don't like the choices offered, then, you have the right to take your money and spend it elsewhere. The only places you don't experience this type of legal framework is in more liberal countries like those of the EU, because they believe that the public is too "stupid" to think for themselves and that it's the role of the government to decide what the people are and are not "smart" enough to understand and accomplish. >>70872 >>70874 Why not just play the game on Dolphin?

>>407555 Let's actually play this game since you seem too retarded to understand. You make a program like Microsoft Office. You make it open-source since you're such an idealist. NOW, someone comes along, takes your open source software, change a couple values to differentiate it from yours, and makes an agreement in "their" software that they have the rights to anything that is made using that software. And, it turns into a big success. What are you going to do? Are you going to violate your principles and do everything you can to ruin them, or are you going to follow your principles of allowing them to make a derivative work and see great success with it?
>>70920 >Are you going to violate your principles and do everything you can to ruin them, or are you going to follow your principles of allowing them to make a derivative work and see great success with it? Follow my principles and let people have the freedom and autonomy to do whatever the fuck they want. You have every right to try and make your changes proprietary because there's no ethical way of preventing you from doing it. Shooting someone for making their changes to software proprietary is not ethically permissible under any sane framework.

>>70921 >Shooting someone for making their changes to software proprietary is not ethically permissible under any sane framework. And, like I was saying to the other Anon, that is why I'm wonder why people are wasting their time over this. RS makes it damn clear they don't want people touching their precious gems that is the GTA3 trilogy. So, just drop it at that point and let the games languish into obscurity since that seems to be what RS wants. There are HUNDREDS of other games, BETTER games that could use a rival or a bug fix, rather than waste everyone's time fixing a game that the owner doesn't want fixed. This also extends to the idea of people wasting time making fan art and fan games; that should exist as advertising for the original, but companies DMCAing them because they consider it competition. <Or, and here's another thing that would be a vast improvement, take everything that was "great" about the GTA3 trilogy, and make your own game. I don't know anyone who could be opposed to this idea, especially when Self Made is such a slap to the face of what anyone wanted.
That's all for the stream, thanks to all 3 anons who stuck around for the movie. I'll look into streaming more stuff next time, using 8chan tv is fun
>>70923 GTA being shit is not an argument for why I should be shot for reverse engineering it. I don't disagree with it being a waste of time to invest into that franchise. That has nothing to do with the moral argument taking place though.
>>70924 Tfw wasn't paying attention and missed it. I haven't paid much attention at all to 8ch tv ever since I stopped streaming a while back. I check once in a while but very rarely is someone live.
>>70925 >GTA being shit is not an argument for why I should be shot for reverse engineering it. The reason "you're being shot" is because you agreed to the terms RS laid out. If you didn't want that to happen, then don't agree to RS terms in the first place. >That has nothing to do with the moral argument taking place though. And, that's your first mistake. There is no such thing as "moral laws". Laws are unemotional rules that people follow. They can be used morally and they can be used immorally. There's nothing that will ever stop people from using them for either purpose.
>>70927 >The reason "you're being shot" is because you agreed to the terms RS laid out. If you didn't want that to happen, then don't agree to RS terms in the first place. The entire point is that those laws shouldn't exist in the first place. You shouldn't be able to prevent people from building technology by placing a donut steele sign that no one even looks at or reads. You're artificially stifling innovation by abusing legal systems and that's immoral and inefficient to a free society. There are plenty of things that we don't find morally or even legally binding just because they're written into a contract. I would tolerate it if this was applied to commercial ventures but they aren't. You're pointing guns at people doing charity work that is even actively contributing to the fucking sales of your product because you want to monopolize the act of fixing your own broken product so you can milk more money out of people at a future date. This is not an acceptable system. We don't accept binding slavery contracts and I won't accept binding EULA's in order to play games.
>>70550 Part of the problem is that a lot of the people who spew about these sorts of things being revolutionary have no actual idea what practical applications they might have. They just realize that they're doing something interesting that they haven't really seen before and are, like so many others, trying to sound like they know what they're talking about.

And, I just remembered the reason why I first came on here tonight. Which wasn't to get into an argument about nothing. Has anyone else thought about downloading entire catalogs of videos off of Jewtube and uploading it onto other video sites? The only reason why Jewgle is even remaining dominant is due to it being the "only" place you can find material. So, why not take it upon ourselves to download the material that "we" often watch and search for and upload it to other sites? I don't mean only the sites that is on the alternatives list (To refresh what those sites are): >BitTube: https://bittube.tv/ >D.tube: https://d.tube/ >MediaGoblin: https://mediagoblin.org/ >VidLii: https://www.vidlii.com/ I mean also upload it to sites like DailyMotion, Vimeo, and NicoNico to start driving traffic to those sites as well. Try to increase the competition and availability of media and really try to decentralize everything.

>>70716 >But if you just use that code to remake GTA 3 (with Liberty City and all the same content/ideas from the original game) and then try to distribute it, Rockstar could flex their legal muscle and say you don't own the rights to their ideas. You may have recreated the code, but that still doesn't give you the right to use their characters and stories and such. Really depends, as long as the copyright infringing materials aren't contained in the project but can be integrated with it, it should be fine. Think PCSX2 using proprietary PS2 Bios code. PCSX2 requires you to find your own BIOS, but it doesn't come with they project. They "require" you to find one legally *wink wink*, but don't offer it themselves. If the reverse engineered code doesn't include the actual assets and just the framework for the assets while still requiring users to acquire the source games legally *wink wink*, then they should be fine.

But more importantly, hardware vendors and their firmware are locked down beyond believe to control trade secrets. Electrical engineers have no sense of community sharing, and tools don't exist to easily share designs and improve them. There's also no easy way to audit manufactured devices to confirm they're produced exactly to spec, with no hidden functionality. You'll find some SBCs with minimal proprietary blobs in firmware, but usually radios and some bigger ICs are going to be proprietary no matter what. Unfortunately there's no easy way to tackle this problem. The entire process of producing electronics would need to be overhauled. >>70956 Fairphone seems more geared towards sustainable manufacturing of devices. If you want something open, you'll probably want a Librem 5 (has a Made in USA option at twice the price) or a PinePhone. It is exactly these kinds of articles and these kinds of people that have forced me out of my chosen profession and made me into a literal clown. I’m just waiting for the Halloween stores to open this year so I can get facepaint on bulk discount. My saved money can carry me through to Halloween times. I’m going to be a clown everywhere I go. Shopping malls, grocery stores, the park, fucking everywhere. Everywhere requires a mask to enter so I’ve been tossed out of basically everywhere but they won’t know that it’s me anymore with a haircut and full whiteface. This kind of thing happens from time to time, especially with disgruntled employees or for a laugh. I remember as a kid that our local PBS station was having funding issues, so to make ends meet and get the message out to Corporation for Public Broadcasting that they were understaffed, they used to air porno from 2AM to 4AM on certain days of the week. Didn't last long, but it had the desired effect. A minor controversy that caused a house cleaning and got rid of the mismanagement.

Or maybe they realized that they now needed something a bit raunchy to fill the demand at that time slot. I don't know. I was really young at the time. I did used to get up really early in the morning to catch The Muppet Show before having to get ready for school, and sometimes I'd get up a bit too early and catch the end of Benny Hill. I don't know, I usually find gatekeeping has the opposite effect on me, if there's a high bar of entry to something I find I want to put in the effort for it and then it turns out it's not much effort at all, it's simply the act of putting in the effort that's the hurdle.
>>71121 >Putting yourself in the shoes of FOSS developers, is it unreasonable that they won't cater to people who will not or cannot spend the time or effort learning those things because they themselves deem better uses of their time? No, but they're not being paid to. Your example of the FOSS devs is closer to the position of lawyers than the EULA-writing corp. They have a rarefied skillset and they're under no obligation to help you (but you might get help if you pay them for their time spent explaining the code (legalese) or simply familiarizing you with the GUI (what the layman has to deal with in practical terms outside a courtroom). If the FOSS devs were the EULA-holding corp, they'd need to contract with you wherein they provide their service (they explicitly don't, from what you've said) and you agree to certain limitations on what you can do with it (which I, at least, don't understand, being that I'm not a coder nor particularly technically inclined). Oh, and you pay them for that service they're not providing, which I think is also something that isn't. It's like, a terrible fucking example, anon. >I don't know, I usually find gatekeeping has the opposite effect on me, if there's a high bar of entry to something I find I want to put in the effort for it and then it turns out it's not much effort at all, it's simply the act of putting in the effort that's the hurdle.
