Major release Unknown 9: Awakening goes by practically unheard of, peaking at 224 players and mostly negative reviews Anonymous 10/19/2024 (Sat) 11:57:26 Id: 2b8d8a No. 1029505
Less players than Concord, by the way. Bandi Namco were trying to build an entire multimedia IP out of this, they bought the studio outright in 2020. AMD were giving codes away with hardware purchases. They really thought they had something here. How does stuff like this keep happening? https://archive.is/jAkAY I only vaguely remember this for having been at one of those Xbox showcases. It's gotten pretty middling reviews from the press too, largely getting 5s.
>>1029771 yeah but those are Radio dramas which can be entertaining, fictional/scripted podcast are a terrible subgenre of radio dramas that uses a fictional podcast format to tell a story and only became popular among tumblr faggots that got obsessed with shows like Welcome to Night Vale and The Black Tapes
>>1029771 > Currently weebs are only willing to spend money on it's not desire that's the problem it's the middle men i would love to buy the stuff otaku get but the middlemen shit in the box and i dont want a box of shit. and even the stuff otaku get is slowly getting watered down.
>>1029780 >a terrible subgenre of radio dramas that uses a fictional podcast format to tell a story Sounds similar to the Welles' WotW broadcast in structure.
Oh shut the heck up. This game is amazing. IGN compared it to Last of Us and God of War and gave it a perfect 5 out of 5
You're gonna need to try harder kiddo
>>1029688 Every "DEI" game feels like a laundering scheme mixed with a racketeering operation on a scale mafias can only dream of. So much money spent on such uninteresting games? When they said they wanted vidya to be considered an art form, they seemed to mean they wanted all that racket money funneled right into their Swiss bank account for sticking a banana to a wall.
Now it makes sense. The ceo of Reflector, Alexandre Amancio worked on Far Cry 2 games and a few Assassins Creed games, most infamous one being AC: Unity. It really is like Corcord again, Sony Bamco thought they were buying a sound investment since it was former bungie ubisoft staff and thought it was 'the next star wars' (insert multimedia franchise here).
>>1029889 Or sticking a banana to another banana.
>>1029505 Reflector Entertainment, i.e. a Sweet Baby Inc front, was DOA. These stupid fucks had a tv show and movie lined up too lol. first screenshot from last october, the rest from around march.
>>1029939 > These stupid fucks had a tv show and movie lined up too lol. i hope they already had it all filmed and ready to go the more money wasted on this shit the better, i want heads to roll and accountants calling suits and yelling.

For a laugh, here's how obscure this game is. I've literally only heard about it in GG-adjacent circles. If you look it up you only see grifters like Grummz and TheQuartering talk about it. I have to wonder what its sales are, it has like 150 reviews on Steam and a decent number of those are from people who got it free with their GPU. It's gotta be an Immortals of Aveum style astonishing flop. And similar to Immortals of Aveum, Unknown 9 isn't even necessarily "bad" from what I've read, but it sounds like the kind of on-rails singleplayer cinematic game that would release thirteen years ago. It kind of looks like a AAA game plucked straight out of 2011, too.
>>1029975 >Immortals of Aveum, Unknown 9 isn't even necessarily "bad" Fuck off. Just a skim of "gameplay" footage shows Immortals of Aveum was an abomination made by people who thought unironicly including every piece of bad game design even normalfags consider acceptable to hate was a good idea >starts with 25 minutes of walking through city with no gameplay >elevator scenes that shove your camera into CURRENT YEAR negress's face for minute+ so she can talk >at the end of it she dies YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT HER GUYS! >combat tutorial starts >all the spell effects are blinding and cover the full screen, can't see shit >only way to know enemies are damaged by the visual diarrhea is the giant health bar for even common foes >negress who died is replaced by negress with literally the same face despite being decades older and not related >now there's a half hour long tutorial >full of pop ups demanding you hear about basic game concepts like "armor reduces damage taken" >there's now a time skip >the entire young reluctant hero who doesn't know what he's doing is thrown in the garbage so that entire first chunk of the game was wasted on exposition >the game is only 9 hours long with cutscenes by the way >there's magic radios and magic dropships so they don't have to write anything but cawl of dooty >or marvel dialog >the big twist is the monsters who came and did massive damage while sucking magic were trying to clean up the pollution caused by magic >weak main character starts crying and begging hostile race (who also talks in marvel dialog) to help save world, outright saying humans deserve to be killed but the world doesn't >final boss is essentially defeated by negress 2 instead of hero, because she's the real hero, don't you love her? That's all ignoring the fact that the game just didn't run at release because of all the partical effect spam and rushing to be the first UE5 game so no optimization meant even great computers got a slideshow. If it weren't for a bunch of even bigger fuck ups released at essentially the same time, every e-celeb would have a video saying how this game does everything wrong. No, I'm not even exaggerating when I say they look the same either. Same jaw, same lips, same eyes, same eyebrows, and very similar nose. Pic related (spoiled so you don't have to see it, and reposted because I initially fucked up the cropping the first time).
>>1029990 >the name David is now solely jewish Are you retarded?

>>1029993 Assuming you're new, that guy is a troll we have. Just ignore him, he posts more or less every day and most of his posts are like that. They call him Lucio or Lucario or some shit I don't know, I never bothered to learn who he actually was.
>>1029539 Yeah they definitely look that way. >>1029997 >I never bothered to learn who he actually was He came here after OneAngryGamer died. Used to post in the comments there about killing leftists and similar shit all the time. >>1029984 >Immortals of Aveum Another game I never heard of. They can't even manage to make an entertaining trash fire. Nothing but garbage that deserves to be forgotten.
>>1029975 >with critics disputing the game's portrayal of Hitler as having two testicles How dare they not give the reproductively disabled their representation >>1029984 >All that shit >Buried by Starfield drama Whose idea was it to... <Published by EA <Developed by ex COD and Dead Space veterans <Entire staff got layed off after trash sales Did the entire western industry take the exact same retard pills simultaneously? Sony, EA, Ubisoft, and now Bamco, I'm noticing a pattern but can't see an end goal other than industry crash. >>1030001 >Nothing but garbage that deserves to be forgotten Some shit we might wanna keep around as examples of what not to do, those who fail to learn from history will just do it again.

>>1029571 Radeon 7000 series, after looking back into it I think I actually also got this turd for free. >>1030181 I have a cousin named David and he's Irish you fucking retard.
>>1030393 Anon, don't you know that any biblical name being used means the person is 100% jewish now? Only jews use names like John, Jacob, Josh, Paul, Peter, Thomas, Philip, Abraham, Andrew, Nathan, Zachary, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, Jesse, Caleb, Stephen, Isaac, Simon, Hannah, James, Michael, Joseph, Daniel, Timothy, Samuel, Matthew, Sarah, Mary, etc. because some retard on the internet decided it.

>>1030398 Abraham in Hollywood movie credits is probably Jewish, John the trucker isn't.
>>1029505 A couple of days ago, Reflector Entertainment (the developers behind Unknown 9: Awakening) officially announced layoffs. Approximately 18% of their workforce is now gone. They did not specifically say that the game's failure was the reason why, but they did mention the game by name. They claim that their decision isn't "driven by commercial success" but they don't say it isn't because of failure, either. What kinds of layoffs happen right after a successful release of a product, anyways? A Message to the Reflector Community https://archive.md/zRxHj >A few moments ago, we informed our team that we are refocusing our efforts as we enter a new phase of development. The changes resulting from this transition are necessary for us to efficiently deliver on our most pressing objectives while guaranteeing that every member of our team can meaningfully contribute to our ongoing projects. >In the spirit of full transparency, we want to share what this means for our colleagues, our games, the worlds our products unfold in, as well as what everyone can expect moving forward. >For most of our studio’s history, we have been fortunate enough not to have to make changes like this. Today’s announcement isn’t driven by commercial success or external pressures, but stems instead from our current reality, which is that at this time, we cannot guarantee tangible work for all of the talented individuals we employ. >With the recent release of Unknown 9: Awakening and our two key production lines entering the early stages of development, we must make sure that our staff is laser-focused on contributing to the projects that wholly benefit from their skillsets. >As such, we are reducing our team by approximately 18% of Reflector’s total workforce, a decision that impacts people who aren’t assigned to roles that our active projects require. >This change affects our colleagues, our friends, and their families, and we are doing all that we can to help them through this difficult time, providing them with severance packages as well as access to medical, emotional, and career planning support. >We know that the community we’ve built over the years cares deeply about the people who bring our games to life. Our goal is to assist the affected individuals with the respect and support they deserve. >As you can imagine, this is a trying time for us all, but we are committed to learning from this experience. As of this posting, there are currently 11 people playing the Steam version of the game, with a peak of 31 in the past 24 hours. It reached its peak player count of 285 around the day of release and has only decreased in players since. These layoffs have come as a surprise to no one at all. Will we see the closure of this studio soon?

>>1029505 Is it just as bad as Forspoken, or somehow worse?
>>1041893 Reports about these layoffs mention that 145 LinkedIn profiles list Reflector Entertainment as their current place of employment. 18% of 145 is 26 people. There are more staff who got fired than there are players currently running the game.
