You're not going to bat a thousand, even Valve has had flops. Firewalk spent almost a decade, hundreds of millions of dollars, and millions of manhours into a game that couldn't muster 700 players. Sony must have realized the time and effort they would have to spend into making it a functional studio would be greater than simply buying/founding a new one. The additional closure of Neon Koi also suggests a planned divestment from what Firewalk had specialized in, making the studio reductant. This is a case where mass layoffs are unfortunately justified. Very few studios can pull an Ion Storm and put out a Deux Ex after a Daikanata.

Sly Cooper is a baby's toy, clearly. They had to get uber edgy with InFamous, and then by InFamous 3's standalone DLC you're playing as some woman with literal neon hair. Can't wait for their next game where they replace their samurai protagonist with a woman.

But yeah the failure of the Ratchet & Clank movie clearly shut down future plans for any of these, except Ratchet itself, for some reason. Even though of course Ratchet was going to fail in theaters. They basically didn't release it at all. I live in a major city and only one special theater downtown was showing it, for one week only. If I wasn't a huge fan of the series, I'd have never known it was releasing at all.

It's rare to see anything animated that doesn't go for the "Pixar blobface" school of design. And Sly would have been much easier to adapt than Ratchet!

Seems like Bruce Straley had his own opinion on Firewalk Studios closing. Guess the part about the studio spending hundreds of millions of dollars didn't fully sink in even though he was informed about such a statistic.
