>games that were popular with games journalists won the games journalist's award show
Listen to yourself. The night is mostly an award show for Geoff's friends, especially this year. The only games that were leftist and won either haven't released (GTA 6), were controversial FATLUS games nominated for GOTY (Metaphor), won the nothing titles (Senua 2, Neva, Prince of Persia, Baldur's Gate 3), or won non-game titles (Fallout). GOTY was preceded by the previous winner urging the audience to stop making games people, including themselves, don't like. Game Direction was preceded by Kojima saying that every great game has a great helmsman, only for the winners to tell him that great games are made by great people who like what they are making. The shilled games you are referring to were the GOTY nominees, and they won so many awards because Geoff is a well meaning ignoramus who can't create a decent nominee selection system or isn't allowed to because the people funding the show wouldn't want it. No Switch games won because the Switch barely had any games worth any of these titles this year. It's an outdated system trounced by the PC. The AAA premiered games were mostly shit because the AAA side of the gaming industry is out of touch and has long dev times. Most of these games were likely pitched and began production one or two years ago, maybe more, when people were being sold that Kamala had any chance. The GOTY was shilled by Sony, but it's also a game made by people who wanted to make something good for kids to play for their first times gaming, rather than vague narrative-driven goals like telling some character's story or expressing a personal identity through a game. Even if it was mostly superficial, the use of nostalgic games for its set dressing pushed its success and means that people, even games journalists, want those games back. It's up to the games industry now to deliver those things.

If the protagonist is bad to look at, the game is inherently bad.

Hunt isn't that bad. It's live-service, but Crytek knows what it's doing outside of UI design. What they announced was Hunt Showdown: Wigger Edition though.
