There's explosive shot being a fiery arrow that explodes on contact. A lot is explicitly just a very clear depiction of what's happening, and even what isn't (cobra shot as an example of what you said, or say hunter's mark which puts a mark on a target) can just be seen as a sort of visual explanation for the ability, no random shit necessary (cobra shot, used by hunters which use nature related abilities, has a cobra, why do bards shoot out a bit of dark goo that turns into spikes?) Hell warrior's skills are like 90% just swinging a sword in different ways
