Who thought this was a good idea? Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 16:19:09 Id: 7bc91b No. 1178096
>bro let's add so many unnecessary costumes that you now have to shuffle through pages just to pick the character you want to play as
>>1178892 You speak like one of those soyjak, dipshits. It's the same "problem" totk had with items and it took no time to find something there either. Also, I'd like to add, you'd have to be terminally retarded to think that this has anything to do with mobile games since most tend to have way more character icons on screen.
(1.53 MB 1080x1216 mktourselect.png)

>>1179050 Sheesh, I'll consider THAT nerve struck. Anyway, MKW's "sort" button only half-assedly addresses an issue it needlessly introduced. There's no good reason for costumes to be treated like individual characters, or for so much menu real estate to be wasted on such large icons, when the very previous game avoided both these issues. >you'd have to be terminally retarded to think that this has anything to do with mobile games since most tend to have way more character icons on screen. MK Tour literally has a nearly identical UI density, except without a character preview area.
>>1179800 >MK Tour literally has a nearly identical UI density, except without a character preview area. You know you just proved that it doesn't, right? Greying out half of the icons doesn't mean that the greyed out parts don't exist.
>>1180359 Because I was talking about the density. Holy shit.
>>1180375 You're not very smart, are you.
>>1178096 My guess is that some exec saw how hype people got over the large roster of Smash and took the wrong lesson from it as video game execs are known to do.
>>1178386 What's /v/ for then?

>>1178096 I'm glad the Yoshis have cute costumes now, but I wish there was a barefoot costume
>>1181528 No he's right. >Having just 12 character icons at a time that take up half the screen is a DEAD giveaway for mobile gaming And he just showed you that on the mobile game 12 character icons take up half the screen. Literally what he said.
>>1178096 I wonder what this button does.
>>1178134 become a volunteer or fuck off nigger
>>1178096 I refuse to believe thats the final desing, like it was just for the demo build. Not having a costume selector for each character is beyond retarded
>>1181875 >And he just showed you that on the mobile game 12 character icons take up half the screen. Except he didn't, she showed a mobile game where 24 characters take up the entire screen. Again, greying it put doesn't change that.

>>1181766 Seriously. What the fuck is up the ugly as shit UI for World? It feels rushed and tries too hard to be charming if I'm completely blunt.
(2.66 MB 485x489 1587034743854.gif)

>>1178096 That's intentional so the roster looks bigger than it actually is. We lost characters like Diddy, Funky, and Petey for costumes and enemies.
>>1181678 Apparently for video game generals that don't belong on /vg/ for some reason.
>>1182087 Anon... 24 characters taking up an entire screen means 12 are taking up half, it's basic math. The anon is literally right, 12 characters are taking half the screen on that screenshot, like he said. All you're pointing out is that the mobile devs felt the need to sacrifice having a 3d preview of your choice in order to fit more characters on the screen. It still means the icons are so large that 12 of them take up half the screen which was what the anon was saying to begin with.

>>1182282 >24 characters taking up an entire screen means 12 are taking up half, it's basic math. Correct, but it's still not 12 taking up half a screen. It's 24 taking up a whole screen. It's like saying 2x2x2 cube is the same as a 4x4x4 cube because the former can fit in the latter. that's not how it works. We're talking about the UI as a whole not just the raw number. Also almost every racing game uses a UI where half the screen is taken up by the characters/cars, you're just crying that there's 12 while screaming into the ether about mobile when it isn't relevant to anything. Not to mention, as far as my personal searches go no one has said if the costumes count as their own character having different weight classes or stats, which is a genuine possibility given that's why Metal Mario wasn't just a skin but I digress. Again, you aren't very smart, are you.
>>1182550 And yes, I'm on mobile data now because I'm currently out and about.
>>1182550 >costumes count as their own character having different weight classes or stats, doubt it since you can change constume mid race
>>1182630 We've only seen them change on the overworld, not during a race and they were mostly driving in a straight line.
>>1182721 oh true, the food items just give you some turbo in actual races, I though they changed costumes too
>>1182721 I want to say that item boxes probably only spawn during races and we see them carrying food during them, that said it could also be a mission related thing. There's not enough footage for anything concrete
TOO MUCH CHOICE
I assume the costumes exist to offset the chance that races are just 24 Marios
>>1182862 I guarantee the best one will be some rando like Snowman who happens to optimize for mini turbos on the best bike somehow, it's always something like that
Just because an issue has a partial solution doesn't mean it should be an issue in the first place. I don't see a reason why they couldn't both have the sort option and just put costumes in a drop-down under the character, other than making the roster seem larger than it actually is.
>>1182550 >Correct, but it's still not 12 taking up half a screen. The icons are big enough for 12 to be taking up half a screen, that's what the anon is saying. Your problem is your trying to argue the toss about what's on the other half when it's immaterial when the overall point is about the icon sizes. >Also almost every racing game uses a UI where half the screen is taken up by the characters/cars I never said it wasn't? In fact that furthers the point being made that the standard is to not give up having a character/cars section just because you were only able to fit 12 in on half the screen and felt you needed the other half for more. Your screenshots are also immensely useful for pointing out that normally games can have more than 12 icons on half the screen demonstrating the anon's point that it's a mobile influence that the icons are so big. Thanks for digging them out.
>>1183219 In addition to questionable UI, Nintendo does also seem to recently have a habit of solutions "in search of a problem", or for problems they JUST arbitrarily introduced at the same time as their solution. >>1182550 You're really just determined to keep digging yourself deeper and punching at the air, aren't you.
(41.85 KB 319x293 mario's a nigger.jpg)

>>1182071 You would probably just complain about janny overreach if he was a vol and did anything. Perhaps 10 years of living in a fed infested normalfag astroturfed retard zone really does make you into a shrimp fried rice brained baby who feels like he must shit up the board with a new irrelevant thread every time he's mildly inconvenienced by a video game. Nigger.

>>1183229 Repeating an argument that's already been addressed isn't helping you. At the end of the day you've added absolutely nothing. >Your screenshots are also immensely useful for pointing out that normally games can have more than 12 icons on half the screen Not really no, because it doesn't convey costumes very well. It's a problem ctr had because the icons were only heads, you could only really see the theme. >demonstrating the anon's point that it's a mobile influence that the icons are so big. Not really, no. Large icons don't have have anything to do with mobile at all, they're just large icons. That said, older games tend to have larger icons than modern console and mobile games due to the resolution being leagues better meaning you can actually tell what a small icon looks like and you won't run into warcraft icon syndrome. Mobiles being modern tech meant that they never needed large icons in the first place which is why mobile UI isn't exactly massive icons but rather ones that are smaller than your literal thumbnail.

>>1178096 >>1181557 >>1181766 >>1182072 It's so they can sell you new costumes piecemeal for $20 each because they're considered "new characters." If MK8's DLC didn't clue you in, Nintendo clearly wants to turn MK into their live service mtx machine a la Fortnite.
