It's not exactly a hatred of the idea of people speaking in a game -- something like TF2 where it lends itself to an instant and recognizable communication to prioritize things in the heat of battle I'm alright with, it serves a purpose. But in most cases, what good it serves is offset by the costs and can easily be served by just expecting the player to read or the dev-team buying a mic, and definitely shouldn't come at the cost of the rest of the game.
