Final Fantasy XVI Clive May Cry: PC Edition Anonymous 09/18/2024 (Wed) 21:54:47 Id: 344fe4 No. 1015864
Was dicking around on steam yesterday and that on my friends list that Mark was playing FF16. Decide to bite the bullet and got it, to see first hand what the hype/hate was all about. >Game runs mostly stable 70 plus FPS on mid settings 1440p on a 3070 ti >Some drops in cutscenes and areas >4ish hours in so far >Story is surprisingly dark and they don't shy away from gore or mentioning rape >Feel the DMC DNA in the gameplay >Combat is so so close to being that DMC RPG I crave but falls short due to the stagger system >Which feels so jarring in a game like this >So far feeling both disappointed and impressed at the game I feel like they cucked out from going full DMC ARPG, but also felt that they were too deep to not commit halfway. There is a lot I'm feeling disappointed over but a lot that I also enjoy, I'm still early in the game so perhaps my views will change. I hear Itsuno is going to help work on FF17, so he might push for the hard commit to pure action with zero bullshit. But considering how much of a mess DD2 was....it might have new issues that replace the ones FF16 have.
>>1016276 Yeah, I actually was tempted to pick it up on steam during a sale or just emulate it... but looking back, the only thing that impressed me about the game was the quality of the graphics on the 360... which isn't going to mean much now, and chasing graphics fidelity like a heroin junky chases the dragon is why SquareEnix is in the sorry state it is now. It's the reason why SquareEnix is SquareEnix instead of just Square. I acknowledge the faults in The Spirits Within, but I still like it anyhow. Even with the more high-tech setting and western pandering, it had that charm of late 90's and early 00's Japanese media when it was still trying to figure out the West and grow the market - but hadn't yet been able to excise the very Japanese roots. They still haven't figured out the west in large part, but now there is a formulaic "global market" design aesthetic a lot of Japanese games follow and it doesn't satisfy either IMO. Or maybe it's all the same and the western slop they were trying to ape back then was just better, and the modern pandering is chasing trends that nobody likes. Hard to tell when you haven't watched movies or TV in 15 years.
>>1016290 <360p I'm sick of this lazy yt-dlp epidemic when modern web tech allows for smaller vids at higher resolutions. Get on board losers. >>1016276 >Strangely enough, I've been seeing people being nostalgic for FF13. I think it's due to FFXIII being ahead of its time, but in an unfortunate way. The autobattle mechanic was taken by mobages and expanded upon and refined and now gameplay automation is seen as normal like in XVI itself. It's startling to play a modern RPG off the App or Play Store that streamlines its combat for office workers and has corridor hallway maps and then play FFXIII afterwards; it really comes off as a big-budget mobage where you get all the characters for free to younger players with no frame of reference for what old turn-based RPGs used to play like. Compound it with PC modders and Microshit XCawks helping the shit port to actually run (the upscale FMV mods suck though and I'm really tempted to just start my own mod with blackjack and hookers to fix those cutscenes and cut down the game's filesize) and you end up with a game that persists and gets defenders putting out Jewtube video essays about how we need to "reevaluate" the title. also the excellent porn of the girls is a contributing factor to the game's lasting fanbase

>>1016303 >Spoiler Sometimes I genuinely wonder how much porn helps a fanbase. I remember as a kid sticking with league of legends for way longer than I should because I wanted to fuck Sona And the yordles, and miss fortune, and a ton of other girls but lets not de-rail too much. I know that it does work on some level but I eventually stopped playing league regardless. I do not think it is a 100% fool proof thing, but it does help on some level to maintain interest. I am just not really sure how much it helps in the grand scheme of things. Something kinda related is how people will defend absolute trash if it stars a woman. Doubly so if its an attractive woman. The only reason things like legend of korra has fans is because the protag is hot. Lightning is trash as well. Fuck you motomo toriyama and your stick waifu.
PS5 hurt this game really badly.
>>1017886 It's been on Steam for a week, how's it selling?
>>1017901 Not terrible, but it would've been much better if it released on PC day one.
>>1017901 Pretty good all things considered but if they released a year ago on PC then it would've been very high on steam.
>>1017906 SE's retarded standards will call that a failure.
>>1017915 Tomb Raider, as much as I dislike it, sold 6,000,000 and they said it was a failure. They have fucking absurd expectations and it's a huge reason the company is floundering. The difference is now they can't blame their western studios for their core team being shit for 15 years.
>>1017916 Didn't FF 16 sell poorly for a mainline FF title?
>>1017919 Final Fantasy - 2.13 million+ Final Fantasy II - 1.37 million+ Final Fantasy III - 3.86 million+ Final Fantasy IV - 3.49 million+ Final Fantasy V - 2.88 million+ Final Fantasy VI - 3.80 million+ Final Fantasy VII - 14.10 million Final Fantasy VIII - 9.60 million+ Final Fantasy IX - 5.83 million+ Final Fantasy X & X-2 - 20.80 million Final Fantasy XI: Online - 1.77 million+ Final Fantasy XII - 7.71 million+ Final Fantasy XIII & XIII-2 - 7.70 million+ & 3.30 million+ respectively Final Fantasy XIV: Online - 1.45 million+ Final Fantasy XV - 10.00 million+ Final Fantasy VII Remake - 7.00 million Final Fantasy XVI - 3.00 million
>>1017983 What's the timeframe of these numbers?
>>1018035 forever probably
>>1018045 The FFXIV waifu is a nigger?
(368.94 KB 1920x1080 ffxiv_07142024_225045_341.jpg)

>>1018059 No, not really, and it's just a tan in that image.
>>1016035 It failed to meet expectations because their expectations were based on Remake part 1 which was: 1. On a system way more people, especially people in Japan, owned 2. Came out during the most successful period gaming has ever and will ever have that will never be repeated. No fucking shit it didn't sell as well as Remake did. Everyone isn't locked inside this time. This is just more of corporations being incredibly fucking stupid and not understanding what covid did to the industry.
>>1018087 >People saw all that, and rightfully dropped all support. Yes, because modern gamers are well known for their impeccable taste and not gleefully consuming spectacle focused shit. Be realistic, anon. Image board sensibilities do not line up with normalfags and we all fucking know it.
>>1018092 You're trying to have a discussion with (((Luciano))).
>>1018101 Yeah I should have been able to tell.
>>1015864 >Waste money in boring graphical showcase >In the era when everyone realized that gameplay is better than graphics >Low-spec hardware like the Switch sells wonders, and people are happy with simple graphics and good gameplay. <"Let's waste even more money in boring graphical showcase" Anyone retarded enough to still pursue graphics over gameplay will keep failing until bankruptcy.
>>1017983 >nothing surpassed FF7 (unless you count X and X-2 together even though they are 2 games) Wild. FF7 really was gigantic. Also, kikepedo says they only surpassed 14 million together, where's the source for them reaching 20 million?
>>1018300 That's not a source.
>>1015864 Is the game fun? Is the story investable? Thats all i wanna know
>>1018092 I think they line up more than we think they do.
>>1018304 The main story is fine, nothing honestly special, and the game plays like a DMC lite but it is quite fun, especially when you unlock all the Eikons. Odin is by far my favourite as you get access to a full screen, judgement cut that decimates regular enemies and bosses. The side quests are the worst part of the game by far because they are all some form of boring fetch quest. All in all, I am enjoying it as it is not trying to be anything other than a fun hack n' slash.
>>1018304 It's ok to good, starts amazing but disappoints after about 20-30 hours. I'm not regretting it, but I'd wait for a sale unless you want a good action game now. >at first it was great fun, amazing gameplay but lots of cutscenes, though they're cool cutscenes admittedly >I was going out of my way to kill stuff with Clive, it was so fun >as I played Clive I was looking forward to time when I can play as another character, see the moveset, test it out >I played as Yoshua in the prologue, so surely I will soon get to play Cid or Jill? NOPE It's all Clive and his scally fursona, and while Clive is great to play, his moveset doesn't evolve enough, it's the same combo into stagger into use abilities. Getting one more element and then another is nice, but not enough to change shit around. At 20+ hours in, Clive's gameplay gets stale and enemies are all samey and too spongy for how little they tend to do, cutscenes too frequent even if I actually like them in general. It is still ok to play, the story is always fine, but don't expect the initial positive feelings to last forever as you play in the same intensity. Story feels like they feared going deeper. As I play, I think "they could've done it so much better". It's also sad and dark for too long if you ask me. It's bad shit, no joke or anything to improve the mood for a bit, more bad shit going on then followed by another several hours of bad inhumane shit. If you go dark that's fine, make the hero darker and cool as well like 40k instead of creating a situation where Clive is constantly gloomy and depressed. I would have preferred if Clive was a vengeful, edgy anti-hero with good intentions to this. It'd be far more entertaining, this gets grating and tiresome after several hours. Side notes, do not expect this to be party based or an RPG. This is as much of an RPG as Doom Eternal. 99.999% of chests on the map are wastes of time not worth the two seconds you watch Clive kick them open, exploring what little is off-track doesn't feel rewarding, I don't know why the devs did that. On side quests, they're fetch X or kill Y, serviceable and ok with some nice and somewhat memorable scenes in a few, but then I've played and dropped Xenoblade 1 not to long ago, and that one has horrible sidequests so it could've affected my current standards.
>>1018317 >Button masher where you can literally inish the whole game by repeating the exact same combo + one of the projectiles >fun >The main story is fine >Pozzed, tedious and repetitive is "fine" Paid shills should be shot dead.

>>1018356 IT'S FUCKING LUCIANO, GET BETTER AT SPOTTING HIM!
Game is aggressively mediocre. Yoshi-P and his gaggle of devs just made what they knew how to make, which was FF14. Down to the lore, repetitive combat, lame linear dungeon design almost always following the FF14 formula of mobs-boss-mobs-boss-mobs-endboss, shit numbers-go-up gear design with no variation, and so on. The only difference is the game is singleplayer and is a dumbed-down DMC instead of a dumbed-down MMO. Really don't get why people suck this director's dick so hard, his handling of 14 has been one long process of dumbing down since Heavensward, and his team clearly don't have much originality in them or unique takes on the recurring elements of FF, at least ideas left in the tank. Not to mention the massive decline in story quality since they started work on FF16 after Shadowbringers launch story was done. They should've brought on new writers instead of splitting their talent between two games because it just tanked both products.

>>1018358 I'm sorry anon. >>1018362 <Krile gets a chance at being fleshed out and completing a character arc as a major expansion character >its 1/4th of a zone (out of six) and it still ends with "Talk to Wuk Lamat"
>>1018367 I quit during Endwalker. But thanks for reminding me about how the fucked over a character twice. Probably because she was both a healer and a short race and CBU3 are cowards who can't write either well anymore, or are too scared to because "muh marketability" or some other retarded drivel.
>>1018377 She's actually a magic DPS.
>>1018387 She was a conjurer, which are healers and nature cleanup crews using simplified white magic. I forgot they changed her into a Pictomancer in Endwalker because, again, Modern CBU3 can't write good healers/clerics/medicine men/etc. Can't even keep the existing lore straight either with how they've fucked over the class designs in Endwalker and what I read of DT healers, though the creation of Neutral sect back in Shadowbringers was indication enough of that.
Does this have Denuvo? I'll play if I play free.
