Ninja Thread Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 00:31:44 Id: 9125d6 No. 1105049
In this OP i'll be drawing attention to >Ninja Gaiden Ragebound 2nd Protagonist - Kumori >Ninja Gaiden 2 Black mods >The return of Intercept technique to Ninja Gaiden 2004 Many recent developments have happened for Ninja Gaiden that are worth bringing attention to. I'm making the OP about Ninja Gaiden, but Ninja's are a pretty broad category when it comes to video games, so feel free to post about other games that involve ninjas. <Nioh 2 Sliders code for my Goemon is S-Qkip+DaP4x=z As of the day of this thread's creation, a new Trailer for Ninja Gaiden Ragebound has dropped showcasing the 2nd protagonist Kumori a Kunoichi for the Black Spider Clan. Seems she and the other new protagonist Kenji of the Hayabusa clan, for the sake of their own survival, will join forces literally, as their spirits have been bound together. >With upgradable abilities, hidden collectibles, unlockable secret missions, optional challenges, and more, NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound is a thrilling modernization of the tense, satisfyingly swift battles and precise, skill-demanding platforming the series is known for. They seem to be laying it on thick that this is a real Ninja Gaiden game, not simply an appetizer for NG4. In other news when it comes to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black some Glorious bastard finally made the Hayabusa armor from Halo 3 a mod, In multiple colors as well. This has been a very long time coming. https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaiden2black/mods/150?tab=files If one desires to make NG 2 Black more In line with NG2 360 then the "Ninja Gaiden 2 White" mod exists, to the same Ballance changes that the Simga 2 Black mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaiden2black/mods/30 There are plenty of cool mods for NG2 Black that are worth taking a look at. Now this last bit of info about NG 2004 is a fair bit old, but it's still obscure, and most people are not informed of these developments. For those who haven't heard of it before, The Intercept Technique is an ability that can only be found in the The Hurricane Packs DLC for Ninja Gaiden (2004), up until recently this DLC was Quite difficult to actually get access to, as the DLC was designed to be accessed with an Xbox Live connection. If you couldn't connect to Xbox live in NG 2004 you were incapable of starting a playthough of the DLC, the only way to access that DLC offline would be to already have a Save file ready to load into. Now thanks to the fan run replacement for Xbox live 1.0 Insignia, it is possible to connect either an actual Original Xbox, or XEMU to Insignia's Servers, and get access to the DLC properly once again. The Significance of The Intercept Technique is that it Essentially grants Ryu Royal Guard, by Blocking with good timing, once an Intercept is performed you'll have enough Invincibility to perform your next action entierly free. The Intercept was understandably overpowered, thus it was not bought forward to Ninja Gaiden Black, but it's still a cool move to play around with, so anyone who is a fan of NG1 would likely be Interested in running a play through with the Intercept, just for a change of pace.
>>1115809 It's not just an American thing. Futaro Yamada's novels about ninjas from the 60's is where all the more fantastical elements about ninjas really came from.
>>1113985 I only dabbled with the Sigma 2 Black mod once before and found it Acceptable as far as the First level is concerned, but didn't play much beyond that. The thing about NG2 (360) purists is that the game is still unlike anything ever made, you started with Acolyte and Warrior difficulties. Those were reasonable enough to beat for a first time player, but upon reaching Mentor Difficulty. The game turned into an Unforgiving onslaught, of Aggression and brutality, and you were only going to overcome that if you learned how to counter that chaos with your own skill. A mod made by an NG2 Master Ninja player is going to be Skewed. The skill level of the player is assumed to be that of someone who already beat NG2 on Master Ninja, and has already learned to deal with what NG2 (360) can throw at you. Sigma 2 and NG2 Black tone down all the Ridiculous aspects of NG2's challenge, but that was exactly what people grew to love about NG2. A skilled NG2 player will find that Sigma 2 outside the Overturned boss fights that deal far too much damage, is actually Trivial to beat, since you fight such smaller waves of enemies. Taking out 2 or 3 Incendiary Shuriken Ninja's isn't that big a deal, when the player is Accustom to fighting waves of them, who are more aggressive. Sigma 2 on Master Ninja wants you to play without getting grabbed because if you do it's Practically instant death, but not being grabbed isn't all that Difficult because of just how powerful Ryu is in the right hands. Beating Ninja Gaiden 2 on Mentor or Master Ninja is an entirely Unreasonable task to give to any player, so those who actually do learn how to complete that task are Significantly proud of their Accomplishment, because most people legitimately can't do it. NG2 on Mentor and Master Ninja does seem impossible, but beating it means it wasn't impossible for you, just everyone else. That type of thing was at the core of NG 1/Black as well. Itagaki wanted the player to feel a sense of honor for actually being able to preserver and complete the game. You are supposed to feel like Hot shit for being a player that can beat Master Ninja. So the Ninja Gaiden fanbase understandably, has developed an ego because of that. There can be the Most absurdly ridiculously unfair shit in Ninja Gaiden such as 3rd webm related being a gigantic pain in the dick to actually beat, and yeah some people might complain about how bullshit it is, but we're still gonna beat it, instead decided it's not worth it.
>>1107483 Okay never mind now NG2 (360) is on sale in an even better deal, since Gamepass isn't even a requirement anymore.
>>1116011 It wasn't just the challenge, Sigma can be just as much of a pain in the ass. The issue is that it's fucking boring as shit and makes NG2 play like DMC.
>>1116556 That I can agree with, Sigma 2 is only Interesting when you are doing the final Tag Trials and you need to manage fighting mutiple waves of enemies, and then bosses, and things like multiple bosses at once. I was mostly referring to why NG2 (360) is hyped up so much compared to Sigma 2, unless you actually play the (360) you simply won't get it. The Sigma 2 Black/ NG2 White mods can only do so much.

Here is a new interview with one of the Devs about NG Ragebound. Most of it is fluff, but two key points. First the game takes place during the events of NES Ninja Gaiden 1, so the Timeline of the Modern games is finally addressing the Classic ones. Ryu is not the Protagonist, because NG1 NES is currently happening, and he is avenging his father. Second the game actually is not a Metroidvania. It will be stage based to be more inline with the style of the classic NES games, that being said there will still be exploration within those levels to find secrets and such.
>>1114043 NG2 purists should be on the look out for a project known as XWine 1. A compatability layer that allows Xbox One Windows applications to be ran on PCs. With this, we could get access to the Fission emulator(Xbox 360 emulation that isint shit). There is also the recomp, but that could never get up off the ground.
>>1124646 I feel like some people are gonna ignore this game just because it doesn't fall under the current popular indie metroidvania umbrella.
>>1126434 I think it'll probably end up like the first Gal Guardians where a lot of people go in expecting a metroidvania after lots(exactly 0 seconds) of research and then rate the game poorly based on their headcanon.
What was that 2D ninja game from a couple of years ago that was suppose to be a homage to NG NES or something like that?
>>1128767 There's like 300 of those you're going to have to be specific
Can you play as the girls in every chapter after finishing NG2? I really liked Ayane's moveset
>>1128767 The most popular 2d ninja game recently was The Messenger, is that it? It's not really like NG.
>>1129484 No They're only avaiable in Sigma 2 and NG3
ninjas r kool

One of these days we'll get Shinobi/Nightshade on Steam/PC port/decomp or something. One of these days we'll get Nightshade 2. One of these days.
(15.51 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 2-A.webm)

(1.63 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 5-B.webm)

The thing about the first Shinobi is that it was a functional and yet simplistic template whose potential was never fully realized. It's not entirely a hack and slash nor is it akin to other 3D beat 'em ups such as God of War. It's a simple but rewarding combat system: Bide your time, then strike with surgical precision; Increase the power of your blade with each kill, then culminate in a bloodbath as you deliver the final blow to the strongest enemy. Maybe I'm wrong and there's not much more they could've done to refine this formula, or take it in a direction that would have it mimicking other hack and slash games like DMC, God Hand, and later titles such as Bayonetta. I'd like to think that sentiment is wrong, and another entry would offer an array of combat options, both physical and magical, alongside a larger roster of enemy types and more complex boss battles, while still maintaining the aforementioned simplistic combat system. If I'm honest, maybe there's just no place for games like these in the modern era anymore. They're just not as lucrative as GaaS, F2P, gacha, and other popular models that offer multiplayer functionality and exploitative addiction models (battle passes, time gated grinding, a huge number of currencies so as to confuse the consumer, etc).
>>1129991 They could refine the formula by not having an insanely shitty lab map set or an insanely shit final mapset that's all construction cranes and instant kill pits.
Got this game because of you fags and god I hate millennial writing so much, why can't people just be genuine anymore This probably isn't the best example but you know what I mean if you played it
>>1130198 I know exactly what you mean and I hated it. Like you can't be straight with humor, there has to be six layers of irony on top of it and some snarky character constantly insist "uhmmm actually... this whacky thing... is whacky! Did you know that this whacky thing... isn't supposed to be whacky!?" Like I feel a less gay studio would have taken the joke of a different hero who was actually Not-Samus and let you play that character very briefly, maybe even poke fun at the different styles of gameplay. Instead of them complaining about the shop like an online comment would.
(12.05 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 4-A.webm)

I've posted these same webms since time first began, I'm sure someone has seen them more than once. Whatever, man. Maybe one day I'll record/encode some more. I haven't played Shinobi in a long ass time though. You can only play a game so much before it becomes old hat, even if you haven't mastered its systems. >>1130133 True, the level design wasn't great. Not terrible, but sometimes you might find yourself having to constantly reposition the camera just to orient yourself and ensure you don't get fucked by enemies just out of view or end up going the wrong way. I chalk it up to the game being from a transitory period in gaming, before there were "industry standards" like having a dynamic camera. >>1130198 >le quirky 4th wall breaking self awareness Yeah man shit's annoying.
>>1130198 >>1130331 >why can't people just be genuine anymore The problem is likely because they never learned the value of being genuine. If you want to fit into a group, you have to conform to that group. Many likely have not made an effort to develop enough as Individuals and actually become interesting people. No one wants to be sincere out of fear of being mocked for that sincerity. This has happened countless times in the past to video games, games that have been cheesy, sure, but also sincere in their messages. The messages get lost on plenty of people who are preoccupied with making fun of how cheesy something is. People don't want their work to be mocked, so rather than learn to refine their writing so that it stops being cheesy, and becomes more meaningful. They'll take the easy way out and fill their writing with a thick layer of Irony, so that their work can't be criticized, since the defense is simply "you aren't supposed to take it seriously if you think it's bad, but if you think it's good then you are supposed to take it seriously" These people want to pay tribute to media they have enjoyed in their youth, but they aren't smart enough to actually understand how that media came to be in the first place. They'll see common tropes that are used time and again, and think they're clever for drawing attention to those tropes, rather than understanding exactly why tropes exist in the first place. It's because they work, and they can help Immensely in making a narrative satisfying. It's gotten to the point where there is so much self awareness and irony in Modern Lowest common denominator media. That now audiences, will take any cheesy and cliché writing once used in the past, and lap it up, because it's far more Palatable than the over saturated self-aware style we've been getting. Any writers with half a brain nowadays should have the easiest job in the world, since you don't even need to be better than what there has been in the past. You just need to be better than what there is today, which isn't difficult at all.
>>1129495 >The most popular 2d ninja game recently was The Messenger, is that it? I think that may be the one I was thinking of. >>1133973 They could also just embrace the cheese but play it completely straight and not care.
>>1132521 I want to be excited for this game, but it really looks nothing like NG. It looks a Platinum game through and through. Those big guys remind of the big axe-wielding angel guys from Bayonetta. The flying enemies just look like those flying guys from MGR. And if that's their idea of "a ton of enemies", then I can't say things are looking good for the game.
>>1105049 Hello
>>1137164 Hi, have some Tenchu.
>>1135473 That's because it is, the new character plays similar to MGR while Ryu plays like Ninja Gaiden proper. The enemy count is pathetic I agree
(671.27 KB 1280x720 Ryu NG4.mp4)

(2.42 MB 1280x720 NG4 Izuna Drop.mp4)

>>1152763 There is very little to see when it comes to Ryu so far, but we can see in this short clip they posted on Twitter that Ryu Essentially has Nero's Roulette Spin, and can perform what looks like a midair Flying Swallow combo ender. The Izuna Drop is also different from how it typically looks when performed. Ryu will be Familiar I'm sure, but he understandably might feel more like a Platinum character, which still having signature moves. This might be over you where there's less commitment to his movements, and attacks. Since Platinum is known for letting you dodge cancel the vast majority of what you do freely.
>>1153573 >This might be over you where there's I don't know what the fuck happened here?
>>1133973 >The problem is likely because they never learned the value of being genuine. If you want to fit into a group, you have to conform to that group. Many likely have not made an effort to develop enough as Individuals and actually become interesting people. No one wants to be sincere out of fear of being mocked for that sincerity. I agree. And the internet only accelerated this trend. It's likely to continue. Shortening attention spans contribute to anxious, rapid fire dispositions that skim on the surface. Increasing social media connectivity amplifies the self conscious and anxious tendencies young people already have. Avoidance of risk taking (engendered by a wired world of entrenched bullies that insist there is only one right way to do things,) will also probably continue for the foreseeable future. I've noticed a writer's social media use and presence is almost directly proportional to the quality of their writing today. The more time they spend online, the more insincere, self-referential and shallow their work becomes because the internet by design encourages group think and conformity. >>1135223 >They could also just embrace the cheese but play it completely straight and not care. That requires a degree of vulnerability that most creators just can't summon anymore. They can't even be authentically silly or childlike without worrying some rando is going call them cringe. I'd say the solution for them is to grow a thicker skin, but that can also backfire by making them too cynical and stiff from scar tissue to innovate.

I implore you all to play Shinobi for 3DS, it's genuinely my favorite in the series. It feels like a true sequel to Shinobi III that takes some queues from later entries while adding a couple of smart new ideas. It was forgotten since it was a launch year non-Nintendo 3DS exclusive made by a team who shuttered shortly after, but I played it on a whim after homebrewing mine and loved it.
In regard to people worrying about NG4 having limited weapons, people went back to the reveal trailer, and they noticed the Lunar Staff and Eclipse Scythe, on the Dev's PC's.
>>1200270 >Lunar & Scythe Based, best two weapons along with Dabilahro. Hope we get an equivalent to that and Kusarigama.
>>1157153 Shinobi isn't a sequel to Shinobi 3. It's a sequel to a PS2 game isn't it?

(42.99 KB 200x160 200-2169236498.png)

>>1201355 I meant more mechanically when I said it was a sequel to Shinobi III; it builds on a lot of that game's concepts but tweaks them in ways to encourage more of a flowstate and risk vs reward in terms of score building. In-universe it's actually something of a prequel to the main side-scrollers since you play as Jiro Musashi, Joe's father, though he spends a chunk of the game flung into the far future. PS2 Shinobi & Kunoichi/Nightshade (and thus Hotsuma & Hibana) exist in a separate timeline entirely. I wish we had the game's 2D animated cutscenes in higher quality.
