Ninja Thread Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 00:31:44 Id: 9125d6 No. 1105049
In this OP i'll be drawing attention to >Ninja Gaiden Ragebound 2nd Protagonist - Kumori >Ninja Gaiden 2 Black mods >The return of Intercept technique to Ninja Gaiden 2004 Many recent developments have happened for Ninja Gaiden that are worth bringing attention to. I'm making the OP about Ninja Gaiden, but Ninja's are a pretty broad category when it comes to video games, so feel free to post about other games that involve ninjas. <Nioh 2 Sliders code for my Goemon is S-Qkip+DaP4x=z As of the day of this thread's creation, a new Trailer for Ninja Gaiden Ragebound has dropped showcasing the 2nd protagonist Kumori a Kunoichi for the Black Spider Clan. Seems she and the other new protagonist Kenji of the Hayabusa clan, for the sake of their own survival, will join forces literally, as their spirits have been bound together. >With upgradable abilities, hidden collectibles, unlockable secret missions, optional challenges, and more, NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound is a thrilling modernization of the tense, satisfyingly swift battles and precise, skill-demanding platforming the series is known for. They seem to be laying it on thick that this is a real Ninja Gaiden game, not simply an appetizer for NG4. In other news when it comes to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black some Glorious bastard finally made the Hayabusa armor from Halo 3 a mod, In multiple colors as well. This has been a very long time coming. https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaiden2black/mods/150?tab=files If one desires to make NG 2 Black more In line with NG2 360 then the "Ninja Gaiden 2 White" mod exists, to the same Ballance changes that the Simga 2 Black mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaiden2black/mods/30 There are plenty of cool mods for NG2 Black that are worth taking a look at. Now this last bit of info about NG 2004 is a fair bit old, but it's still obscure, and most people are not informed of these developments. For those who haven't heard of it before, The Intercept Technique is an ability that can only be found in the The Hurricane Packs DLC for Ninja Gaiden (2004), up until recently this DLC was Quite difficult to actually get access to, as the DLC was designed to be accessed with an Xbox Live connection. If you couldn't connect to Xbox live in NG 2004 you were incapable of starting a playthough of the DLC, the only way to access that DLC offline would be to already have a Save file ready to load into. Now thanks to the fan run replacement for Xbox live 1.0 Insignia, it is possible to connect either an actual Original Xbox, or XEMU to Insignia's Servers, and get access to the DLC properly once again. The Significance of The Intercept Technique is that it Essentially grants Ryu Royal Guard, by Blocking with good timing, once an Intercept is performed you'll have enough Invincibility to perform your next action entierly free. The Intercept was understandably overpowered, thus it was not bought forward to Ninja Gaiden Black, but it's still a cool move to play around with, so anyone who is a fan of NG1 would likely be Interested in running a play through with the Intercept, just for a change of pace.
There is also one Potential development worth addressing, but due to the fact it's a long shot if it ever goes anywhere, I'd rather have not put it in the OP. Thanks to the Sonic Unleashed Recompiled project Introducing many new Developments to the Xbox 360 scene, there is apparently a recompile project for Ninja Gaiden 2 (360) in the works. That being said, it's only just started, and it'll be a long time before anything Tangible is produced from this, if it ever gets off the ground at all. The idea of a PC port for N2 In the same vein as Sonic Unleashed's fan made PC port would be fantastic, but it's not something i'd hold my breath over right now. It seems like this is just a Private project, so all that can really be done is wait and see if anything results from it.
Something else worth bringing attention to is how to unlock the SNES Ninja Gaiden trilogy in NG 2004. As now that NG 2004 is by far the Lester played version nowadays, this information may have become much more obscure. The video showing the process can be found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jcgc44jDoY The process isn't too complicated, but you do need to know the steps. >Step 1 Collect all Golden scarabs, that will reward you SNES NG1 >Step 2 Reach the vantage point above the entrance to Plaza that leads to Han's bar, it's where the Switch that unlocks the door located. Once there you must equip your bow, and aim shoot the Clock tower. This will spawn a new chest that containse SNES NG2 >Step 3 Return to the underground and back track all the way to the long hallway that connects the Water statue room, and the next area, once here you'll be able to find another new chest that contains SNES NG3 Once you have any of the games collected, return to Hans Bar to Insert them into the arcade machine to play them. Ninja Gaiden Black instead features only the Original NG Arcade game instead of the SNES Trilogy.
>perfectly good thread on Ninja Gaiden 4 already on the catalog that could have used a few more posts >it gets killed because cuckchanner refugees never check the catalog before posting and fill it with (1) and dones that get locked and anchored for being stream-of-consciousness blither It even had 4K webms of the Ninja Gaiden girls' jiggle physics and the trailer too. What a waste.
One more thing to draw attention to is that in the PC version of NG Sigma there is now a way to edit your saves so you can do a run with all weapons. You can even change your costume to the Dragon Muscle suit color variation that is only used by Survival Mode doppelgangers. https://www.nexusmods.com/ninjagaidenmastercollection/mods/156 >>1106269 It is what it is, Ninja Gaiden 4 is kind of a limited topic anyway, since it'll still be months before the game releases.
I need to stop being a nood and just finish ninja gaiden 1 already. It is one of my favourite childhood games but I have never finished it.
Oh yeah, I came across this pic, the digital version of Ninja Gaiden 2 (360) is on sale for half price currently, and Unfortunately it's already the last day, so this deal could end at any moment. Gamepass is required, but you can use the deal where it's just a buck. The only reason this discount is significant is it's the first time anyone has seen NG2 go on discount like this, and it's been Available digitally for years. I guess that just means when this deal ends, there will be another one coming sooner or later now.

REMINDER THAT NINJA GAIDEN 2 SIGMA IS FUCKING DOGSHIT, FUCK IT'S AMAZING HOW SHIT IT IS
>>1107990 >>1105049 For the longest time I was under the false impression that Red Ninja and Nightshde were the same game and I'm not sure why. Even up to few months ago.
>>1108005 It's been said more than enough times that Sigma 2 is Inferior to NG2 (360) in just about everyway, and Sigma 2's bad changes let to Vanilla NG3 which I actually played out of Curiosity since the entire game is Functional on RPCS3 now, and I was shocked that NG3 was even worse than I heard prior. Sigma 2 was probably them over compensating for Ninja Gaiden's reputation for being brutally hard and waiting it to be easier, from what I can gather Japan has tended to make their versions of games easier compared to western versions. There are a bunch of examples like NG3 NES being artificially harder in the west by making enemies deal more damage, giving you less time, and having limited continues. Contra Hard Corps you get 3 hit points before losing a life in the Japanese version, DMC3 Famously had Normal actually being Hard in the western release, but people aren't aware the Japanese version still had the Gold Orbs, which meant Unlimited continues, and the western version you were stuck with the Yellow Orb system of having limited lives. Vanilla NG3 takes things to an even more ridiculous degree, by removing the majority of choice a player can have in the gameplay. Every fight basically plays out the same way with you killing dudes until your arm glows, using the UT, then popping your Ninpo as soon as it's filled because you can't save your ninpo due to it Automatically draining after every encounter to "refill your life" Playing that version gave me an entirely new appreciation for NG3 Razor's Edge, and the Nightmare brought to life costume because that costume Accurately depicts what it's like finishing Vanilla NG3, and hilariously Vanilla NG3 save data was required to have it in prior versions of Razors Edge. It's a shame even Razor's Edge has it's own issues when it comes to players growing accustomed to its combat, because it really can be a fantastic game once you know it's in's and outs. At least mods can make Sigma 2 or 2 Black, much closer to Vanilla NG2, but we still need to wait until Xenia gets a bit more stable before Emulating the 360 version is something I can recommend. Right now you can play NG2 (360) through emulation, but the Setup process and other things you'll need to do to make it to the end of the game is still enough of a headache, that it's not quite there just yet. >>1108048 It would probably be better if they just stuck to Nightshades other title "Kunoichi" since it's a spin-off of "Shinobi"
>>1108526 They made them easier to appeal to western markets actually.
I miss Tenchu.

>>1108526 >Razors Edge The issue with Razors Edge is that everything from sound mixing to enemy reaction to being hit is scuffed. All of it feels like a mediocre action game with the Ninja Gaiden name on top of it, especially the beginning where you have fuckall combos, even more barebones than Xbox Ninja Gaiden 1. They did a great job in 8 months after the monstrosity that was NG3, but it still wasn't enough. I just wish NG2 had been finished and not a rushed out mess, but goddamn, Sigma 2 makes it 10 times worse and Ninja Gaiden 2 Brown somehow makes it worse in terms of combat with added input lag and godawful tracking to the point some combos are completely busted. The bosses having more health, more invincibility frames and chaff enemies being hitsponges as well with fuckall enemies in entire zones is god awful. I first played Sigma 2 and while I enjoyed it I thought it was just an ok action game. I then used Fiendbusas mod and it was like being a fucking God with enemies only killing me with cheap shots and throwing everything they had at me. 3 FUCKING IZUNA DROPS TO KILL A SINGLE SPIDER CLAN CLAWED GOON ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING??? I'm going to have to stop now, holy shit I could rail on this game all fucking night. Razors Edge was an improvement over a piece of shit, Sigma 2 was turning a Diamon in the rough into a piece of fucking coal.
Anyone here like Tenchu? That is one of the best ninja games around
>>1112951 I have only played tenchu Z. I thought it was good but very repetitive.
>>1112975 Its mechanically the best Tenchu but the missions and structure can be repetitive, yes. My personal favorite title is the original game, the music is too good.
>>1108727 NG3 is so bad that it made me not want to play the entire series ever again. I also hate the pace of {Corridor>Arena>Corridor>Arena>Corridor>Arena} that that piece of garbage have, the thing i liked the most in black was the world and the exploration and they stripped it almost completely in 2 and completely on 3. I have no hope for NG4, since it's being made by platinum which are the kings of {Corridor>Arena>Corridor} gameplay. Someone please bring Itagaki back.
>>1113410 2 was supposed to have them, but it was rushed >NG4 My issue isn't with Platinum, my issue is that Micoshaft is publishing it, it's going to be sanitized garbage. >Someone bring Itagaki back I don't think even he could make a good Ninja Gaiden noeadays since a ton of staff that made NG04 and 2 are simply gone and publishing pipelines are fucked.
>>1113199 Does the first game emulate well? I am actually pretty swamped with games I want to play right now but I want to know just in case.
I've never played any of the 3d Gaydens so I'm really glad Ragebound is a thing. I'm worried it's just going to be it's own thing with the NG name instead of like the NES trilogy
>>1113795 Absolutely. I use Duckstation (the PS1 emulator) and Tenchu 1 runs very well on it. Same with Tenchu 2. God I wish Tenchu Z gets ported already instead of me needing to use Xenia.

Played NG2B on launch as my first NG game, really enjoyed it. Tried to play NG2 Sigma with the Black mod on and honestly the amount of enemies is really retarded, it's fun when there are a fuckton of ninjas but at some point they keep dropping 30 flying imps or whatever they are or lizards in mech suits Completely killed the game for me, probably going to replay NG2B and try out MN. Will never get NG2 purists unless they just keep on replaying the first chapter over and over
>>1113985 My first NG was also NG2Brown, and it's shit compared to original. Tons of easily killable agressive enemies > Less hitsponges Any fucking day, OG NG2 pushes for hyperagressive gameplay and combos, Sigma2/Brown pushes for i-frame and Izuna Drop spam.
>>1113467 >I don't think even he could make a good Ninja Gaiden noeadays since a ton of staff that made NG04 and 2 are simply gone and publishing pipelines are fucked. you're right, shit is fucked. i hope at least rageborne is decent, shinobi 4 being made by the guys that made SoR4 basically means it will just a short, pretty setpiece showcase. I will end just playing Strider 2 or the metroidvania one again. >>1108632 everyone does, but i don't know if i want a new one, cause they will most likely fuck it up.

>>1114088 >Ragebound Same guys who made Blasphemous, so it will turn out alright unless DotEmu really fucks it up. >Shits fucked NG4 will likely be okayish, a character with Platinums moveset and Ryu with an updated team Ninja moveset, I think that's what they're going for. The cartoonish high fantasy cyberpunk shit they're going for doesn't do it for me and it's Microsoft so there will be no tits. That Lamia boss being flat and having bandages over where those should be is telling.
>>1114043 Thought the same until the Aqua Capital chapter and then the snow one just made me alt f4, killing the imps isn't even hard it's just tedious doing the same thing to them 30 times in a row. Game also looks like shit I don't know what boomers were smoking to say NG2B looks worse, I swear to god these NG2 retards only play the first chapters or the airship one that have 90% ninjas >ng2 doesn't push for i-frame ?? The only way you're killing imps is by constantly doing UT preferrably 360 lunar staff one
>>1114144 > and then the snow one just made me alt f4 Git gud Brown on Master Ninja is way worse than the original. >The only way you're killing imps is with UT Nigger they get dismembered in like 2-3 hits in the original while in Sigma2/Brown they take forever to die. I'd rather be spammed with their fireballs but zooming quickly from one side of the other killing them quickly than railing on the same one for 1 minute and before I can even kill him another one kills me from behind. FUCK THAT SHIT
>>1113985 Sigma 2 Black mod is outdated, play NG2B with the White mod instead. Same exact guy and uses the base of the old mod but it's much less retarded, less buggy, and more customizable. It's actually incredible how good it is, I've been having so much fun with this mod on.
>>1114189 I'd rather have enemies on which I can do my strings than spam 3 moves on 30 enemies. >Git gud It's not about me being bad and dying it's about it being really really boring, airship chapter was completely kino since it had only humans but the moment the game makes you fight monsters it completely falls down. >>1114274 I didn't know it released I thought it's still being worked on
>>1114274 Just the fact that I don't have to use Cheat Engine jank makes it 10 times better. Plus all the HUD mods for Sigma 2 are fucked. Still waiting for a 1.0 release to play it though.
>>1114299 >I thought it's still being worked on FriendBusa said the latest update is at a level he's satisfied with for now and even made the mod open source now. So now's the best time to play it, it's in a good state. >>1114300 Yeah the HUD mods for Sigma 2 don't work 100% perfectly and the Sigma 2 Black mod has glitches like the Lycan corpses bugging out in Chapter 6. Playing NG2B modded has been a way better experience.
>>1114299 >I'd rather have enemies on which I can do my strings And you can, except you can also kill them whenever you want. In Sigma2/Brown you don't have that choice, which they loved to remove from the original. >being really really boring Nothing more boring than hitting the same hitsponge 300 times only for it to get back up, even moreseo when they're basic humans. Sigma2/Brown also makes the already broken bosses even more awful with higher health pool, invincibility to Flying Swallow and 5 times more invincibility frames. >but the moment the game makes you fight monsters it completely falls down Skill issue, plus Werewolves and Gaja are really fun to fight against >it was kino Games aren't kino cuckchan rapefugee, unless you're watching a Sony game. >>1114358 >FriendBusa said the latest update is at a level he's satisfied with for now He just said that so he could dump all his free time on Rise of the Ronin. >>1114358 I had tons of bugs with the Sigma 2 Black mod, mostly visual, but Cheat Engine borking countless times as well. Thing with White is that it isn't trying to be close to the original, just his own personal taste on how the game should be played out, not a bad thing, and I'm not a purist, but it isn't a 1:1 to the OG like Sigma 2 Black tried to be.
>>1114426 That's true, I do wish there was an option for a more 1:1 OG experience but it's still way more fun than vanilla Sigma 2/2 Black. S2Black wasn't 1:1 either at times though, like the other anon said sometimes it went stupidly overboard throwing twice as many enemies at you than even OG did. It goes too far in the opposite direction.
>>1114460 Sad thing is, it looks like NG4 is going for smaller enemy counts which is just sad to look at. NG1 exploration with NG2 enemy count would be a dream.
(29.30 MB 1920x1080 gaiden.mp4)

thoughts on how ragebound from the blasphemous devs is shaping up?
>>1115278 I think it's funny how similar it looks to The Messenger, right down to having the same exact move where you hit objects to keep yourself in the air.
>>1115278 Looks pretty good, I hope it plays good, I hope there's no re spawning enemies.
>>1115278 I thought the trailer looked great. I'm excited for some good ol' 2D ninja action.
Why is there so much variety with ninjas? They can be total badass warriors using unusual techniques. They can be magic fighting the underworld. They can be hyper athletic and acrobatic, super fast agile. Ninja can lastly be silent assassins and masters of stealth.
>>1115642 Because Americans in the 80s had no fucking idea what a Ninja was and just wanted to capitalize on a trend. Though romanticizing these things also helps as they turn into myths. It's the same thing with Samurai, Knights and Pirates.
>>1115278 i fear it will be too easy
>>1115845 As long as its well designed
>>1115809 It's not just an American thing. Futaro Yamada's novels about ninjas from the 60's is where all the more fantastical elements about ninjas really came from.
>>1113985 I only dabbled with the Sigma 2 Black mod once before and found it Acceptable as far as the First level is concerned, but didn't play much beyond that. The thing about NG2 (360) purists is that the game is still unlike anything ever made, you started with Acolyte and Warrior difficulties. Those were reasonable enough to beat for a first time player, but upon reaching Mentor Difficulty. The game turned into an Unforgiving onslaught, of Aggression and brutality, and you were only going to overcome that if you learned how to counter that chaos with your own skill. A mod made by an NG2 Master Ninja player is going to be Skewed. The skill level of the player is assumed to be that of someone who already beat NG2 on Master Ninja, and has already learned to deal with what NG2 (360) can throw at you. Sigma 2 and NG2 Black tone down all the Ridiculous aspects of NG2's challenge, but that was exactly what people grew to love about NG2. A skilled NG2 player will find that Sigma 2 outside the Overturned boss fights that deal far too much damage, is actually Trivial to beat, since you fight such smaller waves of enemies. Taking out 2 or 3 Incendiary Shuriken Ninja's isn't that big a deal, when the player is Accustom to fighting waves of them, who are more aggressive. Sigma 2 on Master Ninja wants you to play without getting grabbed because if you do it's Practically instant death, but not being grabbed isn't all that Difficult because of just how powerful Ryu is in the right hands. Beating Ninja Gaiden 2 on Mentor or Master Ninja is an entirely Unreasonable task to give to any player, so those who actually do learn how to complete that task are Significantly proud of their Accomplishment, because most people legitimately can't do it. NG2 on Mentor and Master Ninja does seem impossible, but beating it means it wasn't impossible for you, just everyone else. That type of thing was at the core of NG 1/Black as well. Itagaki wanted the player to feel a sense of honor for actually being able to preserver and complete the game. You are supposed to feel like Hot shit for being a player that can beat Master Ninja. So the Ninja Gaiden fanbase understandably, has developed an ego because of that. There can be the Most absurdly ridiculously unfair shit in Ninja Gaiden such as 3rd webm related being a gigantic pain in the dick to actually beat, and yeah some people might complain about how bullshit it is, but we're still gonna beat it, instead decided it's not worth it.
>>1107483 Okay never mind now NG2 (360) is on sale in an even better deal, since Gamepass isn't even a requirement anymore.
>>1116011 It wasn't just the challenge, Sigma can be just as much of a pain in the ass. The issue is that it's fucking boring as shit and makes NG2 play like DMC.
>>1116556 That I can agree with, Sigma 2 is only Interesting when you are doing the final Tag Trials and you need to manage fighting mutiple waves of enemies, and then bosses, and things like multiple bosses at once. I was mostly referring to why NG2 (360) is hyped up so much compared to Sigma 2, unless you actually play the (360) you simply won't get it. The Sigma 2 Black/ NG2 White mods can only do so much.
(1.69 MB 880x6742 Ragebound.jpg)

Here is a new interview with one of the Devs about NG Ragebound. Most of it is fluff, but two key points. First the game takes place during the events of NES Ninja Gaiden 1, so the Timeline of the Modern games is finally addressing the Classic ones. Ryu is not the Protagonist, because NG1 NES is currently happening, and he is avenging his father. Second the game actually is not a Metroidvania. It will be stage based to be more inline with the style of the classic NES games, that being said there will still be exploration within those levels to find secrets and such.
>>1114043 NG2 purists should be on the look out for a project known as XWine 1. A compatability layer that allows Xbox One Windows applications to be ran on PCs. With this, we could get access to the Fission emulator(Xbox 360 emulation that isint shit). There is also the recomp, but that could never get up off the ground.
>>1124646 I feel like some people are gonna ignore this game just because it doesn't fall under the current popular indie metroidvania umbrella.
>>1126434 I think it'll probably end up like the first Gal Guardians where a lot of people go in expecting a metroidvania after lots(exactly 0 seconds) of research and then rate the game poorly based on their headcanon.
What was that 2D ninja game from a couple of years ago that was suppose to be a homage to NG NES or something like that?
>>1128767 There's like 300 of those you're going to have to be specific
Can you play as the girls in every chapter after finishing NG2? I really liked Ayane's moveset
>>1128767 The most popular 2d ninja game recently was The Messenger, is that it? It's not really like NG.
>>1129484 No They're only avaiable in Sigma 2 and NG3
ninjas r kool

One of these days we'll get Shinobi/Nightshade on Steam/PC port/decomp or something. One of these days we'll get Nightshade 2. One of these days.
(15.51 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 2-A.webm)

(1.63 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 5-B.webm)

The thing about the first Shinobi is that it was a functional and yet simplistic template whose potential was never fully realized. It's not entirely a hack and slash nor is it akin to other 3D beat 'em ups such as God of War. It's a simple but rewarding combat system: Bide your time, then strike with surgical precision; Increase the power of your blade with each kill, then culminate in a bloodbath as you deliver the final blow to the strongest enemy. Maybe I'm wrong and there's not much more they could've done to refine this formula, or take it in a direction that would have it mimicking other hack and slash games like DMC, God Hand, and later titles such as Bayonetta. I'd like to think that sentiment is wrong, and another entry would offer an array of combat options, both physical and magical, alongside a larger roster of enemy types and more complex boss battles, while still maintaining the aforementioned simplistic combat system. If I'm honest, maybe there's just no place for games like these in the modern era anymore. They're just not as lucrative as GaaS, F2P, gacha, and other popular models that offer multiplayer functionality and exploitative addiction models (battle passes, time gated grinding, a huge number of currencies so as to confuse the consumer, etc).
>>1129991 They could refine the formula by not having an insanely shitty lab map set or an insanely shit final mapset that's all construction cranes and instant kill pits.
Got this game because of you fags and god I hate millennial writing so much, why can't people just be genuine anymore This probably isn't the best example but you know what I mean if you played it
>>1130198 I know exactly what you mean and I hated it. Like you can't be straight with humor, there has to be six layers of irony on top of it and some snarky character constantly insist "uhmmm actually... this whacky thing... is whacky! Did you know that this whacky thing... isn't supposed to be whacky!?" Like I feel a less gay studio would have taken the joke of a different hero who was actually Not-Samus and let you play that character very briefly, maybe even poke fun at the different styles of gameplay. Instead of them complaining about the shop like an online comment would.
(12.05 MB 640x360 SHINOBI 4-A.webm)

I've posted these same webms since time first began, I'm sure someone has seen them more than once. Whatever, man. Maybe one day I'll record/encode some more. I haven't played Shinobi in a long ass time though. You can only play a game so much before it becomes old hat, even if you haven't mastered its systems. >>1130133 True, the level design wasn't great. Not terrible, but sometimes you might find yourself having to constantly reposition the camera just to orient yourself and ensure you don't get fucked by enemies just out of view or end up going the wrong way. I chalk it up to the game being from a transitory period in gaming, before there were "industry standards" like having a dynamic camera. >>1130198 >le quirky 4th wall breaking self awareness Yeah man shit's annoying.
>>1130198 >>1130331 >why can't people just be genuine anymore The problem is likely because they never learned the value of being genuine. If you want to fit into a group, you have to conform to that group. Many likely have not made an effort to develop enough as Individuals and actually become interesting people. No one wants to be sincere out of fear of being mocked for that sincerity. This has happened countless times in the past to video games, games that have been cheesy, sure, but also sincere in their messages. The messages get lost on plenty of people who are preoccupied with making fun of how cheesy something is. People don't want their work to be mocked, so rather than learn to refine their writing so that it stops being cheesy, and becomes more meaningful. They'll take the easy way out and fill their writing with a thick layer of Irony, so that their work can't be criticized, since the defense is simply "you aren't supposed to take it seriously if you think it's bad, but if you think it's good then you are supposed to take it seriously" These people want to pay tribute to media they have enjoyed in their youth, but they aren't smart enough to actually understand how that media came to be in the first place. They'll see common tropes that are used time and again, and think they're clever for drawing attention to those tropes, rather than understanding exactly why tropes exist in the first place. It's because they work, and they can help Immensely in making a narrative satisfying. It's gotten to the point where there is so much self awareness and irony in Modern Lowest common denominator media. That now audiences, will take any cheesy and cliché writing once used in the past, and lap it up, because it's far more Palatable than the over saturated self-aware style we've been getting. Any writers with half a brain nowadays should have the easiest job in the world, since you don't even need to be better than what there has been in the past. You just need to be better than what there is today, which isn't difficult at all.
>>1129495 >The most popular 2d ninja game recently was The Messenger, is that it? I think that may be the one I was thinking of. >>1133973 They could also just embrace the cheese but play it completely straight and not care.
>>1132521 I want to be excited for this game, but it really looks nothing like NG. It looks a Platinum game through and through. Those big guys remind of the big axe-wielding angel guys from Bayonetta. The flying enemies just look like those flying guys from MGR. And if that's their idea of "a ton of enemies", then I can't say things are looking good for the game.
>>1105049 Hello
>>1137164 Hi, have some Tenchu.
>>1135473 That's because it is, the new character plays similar to MGR while Ryu plays like Ninja Gaiden proper. The enemy count is pathetic I agree

>>1152763 There is very little to see when it comes to Ryu so far, but we can see in this short clip they posted on Twitter that Ryu Essentially has Nero's Roulette Spin, and can perform what looks like a midair Flying Swallow combo ender. The Izuna Drop is also different from how it typically looks when performed. Ryu will be Familiar I'm sure, but he understandably might feel more like a Platinum character, which still having signature moves. This might be over you where there's less commitment to his movements, and attacks. Since Platinum is known for letting you dodge cancel the vast majority of what you do freely.
>>1153573 >This might be over you where there's I don't know what the fuck happened here?
>>1133973 >The problem is likely because they never learned the value of being genuine. If you want to fit into a group, you have to conform to that group. Many likely have not made an effort to develop enough as Individuals and actually become interesting people. No one wants to be sincere out of fear of being mocked for that sincerity. I agree. And the internet only accelerated this trend. It's likely to continue. Shortening attention spans contribute to anxious, rapid fire dispositions that skim on the surface. Increasing social media connectivity amplifies the self conscious and anxious tendencies young people already have. Avoidance of risk taking (engendered by a wired world of entrenched bullies that insist there is only one right way to do things,) will also probably continue for the foreseeable future. I've noticed a writer's social media use and presence is almost directly proportional to the quality of their writing today. The more time they spend online, the more insincere, self-referential and shallow their work becomes because the internet by design encourages group think and conformity. >>1135223 >They could also just embrace the cheese but play it completely straight and not care. That requires a degree of vulnerability that most creators just can't summon anymore. They can't even be authentically silly or childlike without worrying some rando is going call them cringe. I'd say the solution for them is to grow a thicker skin, but that can also backfire by making them too cynical and stiff from scar tissue to innovate.

I implore you all to play Shinobi for 3DS, it's genuinely my favorite in the series. It feels like a true sequel to Shinobi III that takes some queues from later entries while adding a couple of smart new ideas. It was forgotten since it was a launch year non-Nintendo 3DS exclusive made by a team who shuttered shortly after, but I played it on a whim after homebrewing mine and loved it.
