RTS/Strategy thread Anonymous 02/23/2023 (Thu) 18:06:04 Id: 7bce6d No. 787703
Post your favorite quotes, talk about your favorite or old games, shitpost, discuss upcoming stuff. Upcoming stuff: >Company of Heroes 3 >Homeworld 3 >Sins of a Solar Empire 2 >Ratten Reich >The Great War Western Front >WarNo >Broken Arrow >Xenonauts 2 >Touhou Empires >Men of War 2 >Tempest Rising >SeaPower A remaster of Tiberian Sun/Red Alert 2 much like the OG would be nice, though I doubt they wouldn't fuck up the spritework on them since that has way higher definition and small details than the original.
>>1063605 Plus the webm isn't the highest quality
>>1063605 This is a good argument for why one should always ignore the typical fags who say "COMPRESS YOUR WEBM IT'S TOO MANY MBS AAAAAH MY BANDWIDTH IS BURNING MARK-CHAN SAVE ME=" and only upload the biggest, baddest videos with the highest quality possible
>>1063278 Got halo wars, feels like a sci-fi version of Battle for Middle Earth. I wish we had more "Giant Single Structure Base that upgrade along the match" style RTSes like homeworld, BfME and Halo Wars.
>>1063278 which demos are good
>>1063278 Played the demo for Stronghold Crusader. I enjoyed it apart from the feeling that it felt slower than I remember. Some minor QoL fixes would also be nice for some nitpicks I have with it. First mission is pretty easy, but the second is a much bigger challenge. Also heads up though if you want to try it, it is a limited time Demo. >>1063307 Yeah I used to love building mega fortresses and having my friend try to bust it down. >>1063605 The webm I posted isn't a high resolution. Actual game looks a lot better. >>1063628 I enjoyed the first game for what it was back in the day. Fighting back Scarabs with my friends in co-op on legendary difficulty was pretty fun. >>1063655 (checked) Depends on what are you are looking for. You can sort by what game demos are popular to help narrow it down if you have no clue (though it has a very wide range of what it views as an RTS from what I am seeing). I'm going to be trying out random games from there and see what I find later.
>>1063278 >>1063680 I wonder if Firefly will fix the horse archers being beyond broken. I have autism and mostly played making cool castles against the AI, but I saw autists play against each other and it's pretty much all horse archers unless they seemingly agreed not to use them at all.
>>1063278 CoH3 is on sale for 50% off. Is it finally worth it or is it still irredeemable shit?
>>1063683 Still shit from what I heard.
First up from my batch of random popular demo picks. >King is Watching - roguelike auto line battle and town management >BroadSword - Indie version of Bladestorm The Hundred Years' War with very light unit management >Siege Up - simplistic Age of Empires >Realms of Madness - Sidescroller RTS >Echoes of the Architects - program and customize your own units that then go auto battle according to what you set >Global Conflagration - C&C mixed with some capture points from DoW and neat bits like directional armor >Tempest Rising - C&C inspired game with a multiplayer demo this time >The Touhou Empires - Rock Paper Scissors style rts with powerful hero units to choose I had fun for the most part. I'll have to do another batch in a day or two. >>1063683 It had some free content updates and DLC, but still feels unfinished/lacking from what I've heard. Multiplayer balance isn't great either. For $30 that still seems way too much to pay. Stick with 1 or 2. >>1063682 Hopefully they can strike a good balance on release. Send them your feedback if you are worried though.
>>1063843 Forgot to mention how Touhou Empires was an rts made by jp devs. I really don't see that all too often. Now onto the rest. Batch 2 is done. >Annihilate The Spance - Macro focused space battle game where you control what gets built and goes where but the units fight by themselves >Red Chaos The Strict Order - Another C&C inspired game with some slight deviations >Powerplay - Industry focused rts for fags who like their conveyor belt games >IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre - competitive rts that is easy to get into and has an option to have the AI manage your base building while you command units >Godsworn - Mythological rts focused on pagan gods vs Christianity From this last batch of games, I liked Annihilate The Spance the most. Reminds me of Nexus wars or whatever it was called from when I played custom games in Starcraft 2. Sadly the difficulty is tough as the AI beats me even on lower settings. Most games also end before I can start putting out capital ships which I want to see. It would be cool if they had a limited use boom mechanic or something that nukes the enemy units at your base to buy you or your enemy some time to bounce back and prevent games from ending so soon.
>>1064524 I did one more since it was a late demo arrival. >ZeroSpace - Starcraft inspired rts with a shared galactic war map, campaign with rpg style decisions to make, co-op, and pvp modes Pretty ambitious game, especially for an rts. From what I played, it needs some QoL fixes and for general jank/bugs to be fixed though. Also the main menu runs like fractured ass on my PC. In game it is playable (but not that great either), but the menu nukes my fps with no survivors.
>>1063683 utter shite keep playing COH2
Apparently Battle Realms: Zen Edition came out of Early Access on steam. It's a remaster by a producer from C&C.

Paradox Interactive acquires Haemimont Games, developers of Jagged Alliance 3 >Paradox Interactive AB (Paradox) has signed a binding agreement to acquire all shares in Haemimont Games AD (Haemimont Games). The acquisition is a further step in Paradox’s strategic focus on growing in the management games genre, by building a strong internal capability that complements the Group’s current studio organization. >“We are very happy to welcome Haemimont Games to Paradox!” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox. “They bring a tight-knit team with long experience in developing management games with many well received projects in their portfolio. Moreover, they have a strong creative streak, technology developed for their niche, a new IP in development and a strong culture that fits Paradox’s way of working. We have strong faith in their team and leadership, and our main focus now is to ensure that they can continue to create great games under new ownership.” >Following the acquisition, Haemimont Games will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Paradox. The current leadership and team will remain active with the studio, and the studio’s ongoing projects will remain in development. >“We're delighted to become a part of the Paradox family!” said Gabriel Dobrev, Founder of Haemimont Games. “The cultural fit between our companies is remarkable, and we already feel at home. This partnership empowers us to push the boundaries of our games, delivering deeper and more intense experiences to our players. It also opens new horizons for our team, technology, and creative processes, which we're eager to explore. Expect amazing new games from us!” >The acquisition consists of an upfront cash consideration and a performance-based earnout of similar size that is to be paid out over the coming years. Haemimont Games and Paradox have agreed to not disclose the purchasing price at this point. The acquisition is financed with cash at hand and expected to be completed within a few days.
>>1069141 >Another developer for Paradox to poz and shut down Oh boy!

I have a question for you all: Are singleplayer RTS better than multiplayer RTS? Most of the actually successful RTS over the last ten years have been singleplayer-focused, or even singleplayer-only. Examples include Iron Harvest, They Are Billions, and Empires of the Undergrowth. I remember a survey showed the vast majority of Warcraft III players never engaged with Battle.net.
>>1077921 As an autistic retard who loves competitive Zero Hour, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, Homeworld and Supreme Commander. Yes, singleplayer is better as it allows you to do more creative stuff you can't do in multiplayer due to balancing and meta. It also attracts the casual audience that buys your game. Multiplayer only RTS nearly always fail for a reason. Even I want to play an RTS to explore the map and nuke the AI with higher enemy counts. Having coop skirmish against bots also helps a lot for competitive. Most people just want to nuke a base and see the fireworks and as a veteran, I also want to do that.
>>1077921 Oh absolutely. PvP RTS is a race to the bottom; a technical, hyper-competitive environment that incentivizes meta-gaming and gookclick. It's almost perfectly engineered to be anti-fun for anybody who isn't neurologically wired to be an accountant. Singleplayer allows for gameplay that's fun-orientated and gasp - "unbalanced". It's sad how RTS vets keep trying to recreate Starcraft when MOBAs took that audience away a long time ago, what's left are the singleplayer audience.

>>1077933 Blizzard was never good
I watched a stream of C&C Generals on twitch and those players just only used humvee with infantry units inside it to kill each other with, they didn't used any other vehicles and they were all USA faction players too. Man Competitive anything is fucking gay as fuck to watch.
>>1077935 That's another problem with PvP: it's "solved". You ignore everything that doesn't work and beeline the meta, leading to play that disregards half the mechanics.
>>1077908 >high textures
>>1077921 Multiplayer with people you know is usually better to me. Pulling off some last minute bullshit against my friends that manages to save the match in supreme commander will always be a highlight for me. With randoms though, I prefer singleplayer. >>1077935 >>1077941 Hyper competitive metafags will always optimize the fun out of whatever they play.
>>1077935 And GLA is just tunnels and Quads, Generals was never supposed to be played competitively.
Reminder to everyone what all of command and conquer is on sale for dirt cheap. I can't believe i haven't heard of this series before, i'm playing remastered tibdawn, while there is some things i dont like about it, i find it enjoyable overall Any recs? I heard that the historical total war games are alright, along with the civ series being neat.
>>1066124 Reviews are positive too. I'll have to give it a pirate demo later to see if how it is. >>1078157 >I can't believe i haven't heard of this series How did you not know about C&C?
