Dragon's Dogma 2: CapJews Anonymous 03/31/2024 (Sun) 21:26:06 Id: b4efaa No. 953404
So it seems that the launch of this game was piss poor due to the bad performance issues and normalfags waking up to the DRM/Microtransactions shit. Still there's a good game to be found, and I hope everyone is enjoying the game as much as I am. Just recently capcom released a new patch where they added a New Game function in addition to a FPS Lock for console fags. In addition to being able to get your own house earlier in the game, and changing Art of Metamorphosis to 99 instead of 2 in the Pawn Guild, thus eliminating the need for microtransactions altogether. Sadly it seems the performance issues won't be release until later this year since it seems capcom needs some more time to cook the game and have it working with DLSS3 and other techniques to make the game actually run at a bearable framerate. Still with all of the complaints they got, hopefully they can have some options to fix the performance issues by using the GPU a bit more in towns. Still, have you been enjoying the game /v/?
>>1041371 Kento Kinoshita did Dark Arisen, not Itsuno. He's not necessary for an expansion.
>>1041373 I forgot Itsuno didn't work on the expasion. Still, I think this game was just used as a training ground for Monster Hunter Devs and as an open-world tech demo for the RE Engine. From which Capcom learned basically nothing going on how ass MH:Wilds ran, but still. I wouldn't expect any word of an expansion until after MH:Wilds releases, at earliest. If any word of an expansion at all. I know there was the credible leaks but I think that might've had the requirement of the game selling well enough first and not being hated by a good chunk of those who played it. Hype can sell a game, but you need a good game to sell an expansion, go look at Tales of Arise for that in practice, where the game sold the most on the Tales name alone, but the game was so shit that the God of Soy ripoff DLC sold incredibly poorly because the Tales fans weren't there anymore to buy it and the normalfaggots had long fucked off. Lots of people aren't even aware that game had a DLC, even.
Sort pawn out: >"A treasure chest! But how to get to it?" Hmph, so he's a bit chatty huh >"Mayhap this ladder is here for a reason" INSTANTLY. PERMA-MUTED. FUCK YOU COCKSUCKER, GO POINT OUT THE CUNTING OBVIOUS IN A SNARKY SHITTY OLDE WORLDE AFFECT TO WHATEVER BLIND RETARD YOU THINK IS IN CHARGE OF YOUR PAWN ASS. Guess I'll see how the rest goes.
Has anyone figured out how to slow down the passage of time using the in-game debug tool? I tried turning down DummyTimeScale in [System] and TimeScale in [Time] to 0.1 to no effect. There's not enough daylight to properly explore.
>>1043346 >Guess I'll see how the rest goes. I didn't bother, framerate was interminable, nothing could fix it, got a 3080 and the fucking thing still drags like it's running on a sub 1000 series card, dogshit optimising, get fucked.
>>1043346 >>1043612 This is the power of Denuvo Anti-Optimize
>>1043612 >>1043614 Isn't this because of the CPU overloading npc mechanic bullshit they put together? My rig isn't the best thing in the world but this was chugging my CPU where no other game has ever done it before.
>>1043632 My whole idea building this rig 4 years ago was futureproofing for about 10 years, got a 5900x, 64GB of RAM, the 3080 card and a shitload of storage. Everything runs like butter apart from this and Immortals of Avernum, they shat a brick and called it a brownie. A shame, although from the reviews of other anons it sounds like it ends up a disappointment anyway.

It appears the Dragon's Dogma community has hit MGSV fandom levels of schizo, because the newest cope about DD2 is it's actually secretly brilliant on a postmodern metanarrative level. I was reading through the recent reviews on Steam, and noticed people saying most gamers hadn't played "the real game" or that it was actually very smart. Then I noticed a few of them cite some Duck guy, and realized they were regurgitating the opinions of their favourite eceleb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xtQ2STDEq8 Sorry, the video is too long to webm at decent quality <It's a secret remake I-it's actually about Itsuno being disillusioned with the games industry! I'm curious what you all think, I don't find it convincing. These types of postmodern re-interpretations always pop up around media people find disappointing; MGSV, Sherlock, even the Star Wars prequels had this. And every time, I find it to be pure copium. This video supposes Itsuno as the fucking Riddler putting secret meanings in his game. >>1071571 Wolfenstein 3D? Castle Wolfenstein came out 11 years before Wolf 3D and I don't think it's controversial to say 3D is a much better game. Metroid almost did it twice, but the gap between Metroid 3 and Metroid Fusion was 8 years, not ten. I don't know if you could call Mother 3 a substantial improvement to Mother 2, but it was a game worthy of the series. The real killer is "improved things substantially". I can think of plenty of good games that came from dormant franchises, but adding the stipulation it has to be significantly better thins the list out a lot. But Dragon Dogma 2's problem isn't that it wasn't a huge improvement over 1, it's that it's basically the same game as 1.
(1.18 MB 1920x1080 Big Think.mp4)

>>1078538 I saw the video a few days back, and while I think that theory has some truth to it. I think that while Dragon's Dogma 2 is really Dragon's Dogma 1.5, I don't think that was intentional as the game does different things than Dragon's Dogma 1 with the Elves and the Furries. I think that the main issue with the game was that it was heavily rushed because of the thick of development being done during COVID and Capcom spending massive amounts of money on the game for four years only for dev to be slowed to a crawl. You can tell by the performance issues on consoles that DD2 was NOT intended to be shipped out the way it was, although with the leaks from 2020 and the game generally being a mess to develop, I think the end product was mainly an issue of development crunch, money wasted, and not being able to properly optimize the game due to remote work being such a pain in the ass to deal with, especially in a massive team settings like they had with Dragon's Dogma 2. If you look at the debug build, they clearly wanted to do more with the game like how there's left over code of the moon finally appearing in the game only to be cut. That's to say I don't think Dragon's Dogma 2 is a BAD game by any means of the imagination, I just think they tried remaking Dragon's Dogma 1 again instead of just letting go of the past and making something brand new with the tools they were given. I don't think Capcom would've green lit the game if they knew RE Engine would run so poorly in an open world setting, obviously they went through with it anyway because it's Capcom and they likely thought that "As long as they don't fight in the towns we should be okay" which is weird because sometimes monsters do indeed show up in the town, although that could've been patched out by now. Another issue with the theory is that "the old man is actually you" doesn't really work since you can also play as a female if you so desire, and I don't think he troons out in New Game+ although if he does then that theory would've been given more weight, although I feel it would've been shown in the video if it was. I played a bit of New Game+ since I put like 50 hours into the main game, although my first character was Male so I'm not going to bother to check to see if the character actually changes post NG+. As for the meta narrative, I think there is a silver of truth considering that Itsuno wanted to do new things whereas capcom just wants to focus on remakes and sequels to existing games, which is probably why he left the company after 30 years or so. Although keep in mind Itsuno wanted to leave for a while and likely made DMC5 and DD2 as a sort of obligation considering how Capcom handled marketing for DmC and refused to answer if the reboot was a replacement for the original series or if DMC5 would eventually come out. Either way I'm looking forward to Itsuno's next project, even if it's from a Chinese publisher. I think that it might be shit-canned mid development due to the success of China's own internal franchises and game studios being propped up following the success of Black Myth Wukong, although I also think they'll just release it without any marketing and Itsuno will likely go work with Clovers or Square Enix. Honestly I just hope he finds a publisher that respects him and his team considering how he was treated at Capcom. He's a smart guy who cares about making games and I want to see him do well.
>>1078538 My issue with that video is even if it's true, it doesn't excuse Dragon's Dogma 2 being a complete mess as a game. It feels more like apologia than legitimate theory.

>>1078538 >It appears the Dragon's Dogma community has hit MGSV fandom levels of schizo, because the newest cope about DD2 is it's actually secretly brilliant on a postmodern metanarrative level. Like Drakenguard? >>1078541 >I don't think Capcom would've green lit the game if they knew RE Engine would run so poorly in an open world setting Yet, they doubled down and did it AGAIN with MH Wilds.
>>1038987 >rid of hitstop Can mods fix this or is it FUBAR?
>>1078543 True, although I think Capcom just wants to make open world games, but doesn't want to invest in a brand new engine since they already have an engine they put millions into and want to get as much use out of it as possible. It's why I think a proper sequel to DMC and RE won't happen until 2027-2028 when they can stick some Zen 7 CPUs into the PS6 or whatever and have that run fine without frame gen. I think MonHun runs at 720p on consoles, right? DMC6/RE9 will probably run at 1080p for PS6 if Sony even decides to even make that into a thing. I just hope that Itsuno can be more flexable with his new game, although I suspect China will most likely sabotage it.
>>1078547 >Like Drakenguard? DD 2 is the Kane and Lynch of RPG's for vidya revisionist/subversives
>>1078538 Just feels like the "I was only pretending to be retarded" defense. Some greater meta-narrative doesn't make up for the base game being shit, the Dragon fight being shit compared to the original (even if it is intentional), armor being a downgrade, performance being ass, no hitstop, worse OST, etc etc. I also disagree greatly with the guy's takes on class balance in the first part. Thief breaks the game over its kneecaps, Magick archer completely curbstomps sorcerer, mage is a fucking joke, Sorcerer got giga-nerfed and lost most of their cooler spells, magic in general lost a ton of its SFX impact and general shit like so, Fighter feeling fucking wimpy due to no hitstop, trickester existing, and tons more complaints I can't remember because I played it last year and hated it. The camera and movement controls giving me a headache due to being so shit, the game being bland looking and moving away from dark fantasy for "muh realism", uglier characters overall, less character customization with height and all that, and so on also doesn't help. Hell, I think I said all this exactly earlier in the thread. I don't care if it has some grand meta narrative. A shit game is still shit. Hell, the guy even uses good games in there, with Frog Fractions and Glittermitten Grove, games I've both played. Both are great games in their own right and have the meta play into the game much more, but their base games alone are still good for their price bracket and don't burn down your PC trying to run them.
>>1078593 I mostly agree, you've worded this better myself. A big problem I had with the video but didn't voice is how stupid the "GUYS NO WAIT IT'S SHIT ON PURPOSE" defense is. As the other anon said, you see that a lot with disappointing media, I especially remember that being trotted out for The Last Jedi and Joker 2. The difference is that might actually be true for those films, I don't think it was for Dragon's Dogma 2. The game doesn't strike me has having this intentional big meta thing going on.
