Avatar (cartoon) is getting a major AAA RPG Anonymous 10/03/2024 (Thu) 15:11:43 Id: b1bba8 No. 1022294
Developers are reportedly Saber Interactive. http://web.archive.org/web/20241003133422/https://www.ign.com/articles/avatar-the-last-airbender-is-getting-a-aaa-rpg-with-saber-interactive-and-paramount-game-studios-exclusive It won't be based on either of the shows, but set in the wider Avatar universe. The MC will be a 'new' Avatar not yet mentioned in lore won't be hard, there's shockingly few namedropped for how important they are canonically. It's going to be set in the very distant past, thousands of years before where the timeline currently is.
The only thing surprising is how long this took to happen. 20 years? The universe is perfect for this kind of game; It has a vibrant world to pull from, the whole concept of Avatars and the elements and bending are screaming to be adapted into an ARPG. By all means I'm glad this is finally happening, but why now instead of during the peak of its popularity?
It will probably be shit.
By Saber? Huh, maybe it wont be gay and lame then, still, shouldnt they be busy with the remake of KOTOR, roadcraft, further content for Space Marine 2, and the games they had already announced?
>>1022294 This shit is tainted by the woke faggotry known as Korra before the term "woke" was even coined. It'll be trash one way or another.
>>1022298 >but why now instead of during the peak of its popularity? Because these companies are bleeding money as NONE of their shit is selling anymore. So they're trying to entice people to come back using whatever previously "popular" properties they have lying around. However defaulting to Avatar is rather hilarious when this is after the release of the Shamallama Dingdong movie that everyone hated (The vidya for it was okay), Legend of Whorra was such a disaster (Outside of the vidya) that random JewTubE;Rs are still making bank ridiculing the show to this day, the comics manage to destroy the original cast even more than Whorra did, and the recent Netflix adaption is such a joke that people forgot it even came out. And that's just the material directly related to the Avatar property, saying nothing of what the staff who created it have done outside of the series since.
>>1022304 Saber isnt bleeding money though, unless you mean nicklodeon/whomever owns nickelodeon.
>>1022300 Saber has like 15 studios, they've probably allocated this already. My hope is they don't make it yet another Ubisoft style game. Ape anybody else's style - Bethesda, Piranha Bytes (RIP), Spiders, I'm just so sick of playing Far Cry 3 for ten years.
>>1022307 That'd be suicidal, Ubishit's games and their derivatives have been losing money like a monorail. RPGs have been making a shift towards more traditional complex games in recent years, I expect they'd follow the money instead of chasing the already dead fad of AssCreed/FarCry clones.
>>1022307 Fair enough, i have no idea how they organize their stuff.
I really wanted a fighting game based on the original series. A ARPG set in the same universe sounds pretty sick though. I am also happy its in the distant past since that means we won't have to worry about the steampunk bullshit whorra introduced.
>>1022305 >unless you mean nicklodeon/whomever owns nickelodeon Yes
>>1022310 There are 19 studios under Saber. They're a huge dev with over 2500 employees. A lot of what they do are ports and remasters, I'd guess a small minority of the company is dedicated to original games but the few they do produce are usually quite good. Beyond Spuss Muhrine Too and Gloomhaven, another recent game of theirs is SnowRunner, one of those trucker games. You probably never heard of it as it wasn't big here but it was relatively popular in Europe and oddly enough, China.

>>1022351 It takes 5 seconds to look up the parent company of Nick kiddos.
>>1022298 fpbp Seriously there's an entirely new generation now. I don't hate the idea but it feels like at this point in time theres a dozen different things competing with it. I hope it does good though, gameplay wise. Maybe rejuvenate the gameplay which has been stale as fuck lately in rpgs
Is this going to include all the Korra retcons or ditch them to try to win back fans of the original series?
>>1022298 Paramount/Viacom/_Ick have been pushing into licensed video games for the past few years for marketing I guess, I think Cartoon Network more or less got shot in in the back of the head with a stapler about a decade already after the KnD guys tried pushing a new show.
>>1022360 Likely not, the faggots running the franchise are prouder of Korra than they are the series that actually put them on the map and will take any opportunity to include garbage from it and the other shit they made to rewrite the past to be gayer. A Dark Avatar or the melanin enriched flying carpet will be the final boss
>>1022366 Can't be worse than the M. Night movie.
>>1022360 >>1022366 According to the article, none of this is even relevant. It's set in the very ancient past, well before Korra or even Aang. I know some of the books go into the history of Avatar, but I don't think anything will have gone that far back.
>>1022360 It will include the retcons of the live action remake REMAKE show, mark my words.
>>1022366 They did have 2 episodes in korra explaining the first avatar. They will 100% try and cram that garbage into the new game.
>>1022298 >The universe is perfect for this kind of game; It has a vibrant world to pull from, the whole concept of Avatars and the elements and bending are screaming to be adapted into an ARPG. Great, now you have me thinking of Kyoshi-flavored Diablo. Which is almost certainly nothing like what the corporate suits have in mind. They'll probably go for a Spiderman 2 ripoff.
>>1022294 Remember when Platinum Games in their prime made a fucking Korra game of all things?
>>1022299 >probably The entire universe is irredeemable without massive retcons. The only good thing left about Avatar nowadays is Anaxus.
>>1022402 I do remember it. It sucked. Clearly just made for the cash alone.
>>1022402 Gaming companies simply have to make money sometimes. Licensed games are usually an easy way for them to do that.
>It'll put players in the role of an "all-new, never-before-seen Avatar" and take place thousands of years in the past. Sounds like create a character, with some title so voice actors can use it as a name and there will be something more eloquent than "Avatar of 2200 Before Genocide"
>>1022414 But does anyone even care about Avatar anymore?
>>1022446 Considering there haven't really been many good western cartoons in the past decade and a half, I wouldn't be surprised if there were. Its still held up as the pinnacle of western cartoons by people. Plus the whole live action shit got it in the public consciousness again (partially out of spite for the live action, but still)

>play as an Avatar from thousands of years before the shows <said Avatar will just get erased from existence and can't advise future Avatars because of Korra's retardation even if we actually get a good Avatar game, it will always be tainted by Korra's mere existence
>>1022552 This is what I meant before about needing deep retcons. If you don't, at minimum, toss everything after Korra's first season the whole series is deader than Star Wars at this point. It's verymuch who gives a fuck. Korra was such a terrible Avatar that that she ruined everything both in and out of universe.
>>1022294 I want to play as Sozin and genocide all the Gay Nomads this is canon btw
(37.40 KB 960x502 Hebrew Nonsense.jpg)

>>1022567 >spoiler I refuse to accept it.
>>1022567 >Sozin was just Hitler Why is everything the west produces gay?
(1.58 MB 498x278 several questions.gif)

>>1022567 >Sozin invented homophobia in the avatar world, completely ex niliho Was he gay for the fire Avatar and got spurned so he decided if he couldn't have any no one else could either? Did he get molested as a kid? Did Vatu contact him and tell him to just start burning fags for the lulz?
(443.40 KB 1506x3976 hmm.png)

>>1022571 >Did he get molested as a kid? That would have the opposite result
>>1022294 The franchise and fandumb are unsalvageable, let it fucking die.

I want to hatefuck Korra so bad
(7.05 KB 640x360 Korra-silly.webp)

>>1022597 We all do, for all its flaws, Korra's character design was on point on making breedable girls. She exist for rough, babymaking dicking.
>>1022601 I've never really got the whole Korra thing when there are so many better girls.
>>1022604 Toph really got shafted by the creators even before Korra turned her into a disaster. Absolutely pitiable that she ended up alone even though she clearly wanted someone to be with, but they kept trolling her with bait. It was to the point where I honestly consider it a flaw of the show.
>>1022604 Meaty thighs, abs and a bratty attitude, you should be able to understand this.
>>1022606 STRONK INDEPENDENT WOMAN
>>1022607 But all of the girls in the show have bratty attitudes.
>>1022614 Its the combination of it all, anon. She has ALMOST the same need for dick correction as Azula but with a even better body.
(811.56 KB 1000x1294 aaaaaa.jpg)

>>1022301 >>1022360 >>1022411 Just retcon the retcons.
The Avatar is the incarnation of the planet's spirit, hench why the Avatar is called the Avatar. E.g. the planet's Avatar The Avatar is NOT a kite.
>>1022673 Page 2 supports this as Word of God.
>>1022673 >>1022683 So the same spirit is reincarnated everytime as the avatar. So one doesn't become an avatar, the spirit of avatar doesn't inhabit or blesses someone to make it an avatar, but its born directly from the Planet God's will and he gets born just like a human. But has powers that must be honed to utilize properly.
(31.45 KB 333x250 Dragons.jpg)

I downloaded Avatar a few days ago (both original and Korra) but have no idea about it other than Korra's the butt of jokes. I only saw the ads and know the very high level premise but what makes the original Avatar seasons work? Skimming premises, it sounds pretty typical for western studios where it's a lot of the usual anti-White shit like worship of the broken/minorities and shit. What redeems it in spite of it probably being gay shit?
>>1023107 Right at the start of the first episode, you have a dumb male saying strawman stuff so that his smarter sister can call him sexist. So you know, great show. It's not like Korra was just continuing the trend or anything.
>>1023107 Good animation, interesting worldbuilding, funny comedy, and Zuko and Iroh's relationship and the former's character development. Aang and Katara are annoying as fuck, but Sokka, Toph and a lot of the minor characters are good and funny
(43.74 KB 900x900 PUNISHE;R.jpg)

>>1023107 It quite literally is just as normalfags describe, it's American "anime" in a medium that thinks Bluey is the peak of cartoons. It had a fully serialized and self-contained story that resolved itself satisfactorily to normalfags' expectations, which is pretty fucking rare when shonenshit is infamous for rushed and bad endings (this is why Fullmetal Alchemist is jerked off to this day). Even though it was drawn by gooks it looked close enough for the face-blind viewers AND it had those Western gynocentric values for people who can't stand the existence of Manga Time Kirara. It was perfect for people who wanted to get into anime but didn't actually want to watch it, and it was aired on Nickelodeon to boot. Honestly the fact that Korra flopped because of cultural rot is a point I debate whether or not it was a good thing to this day (early example to point to that making your protag female and gay-pandering will kill your IP; however its failure destroyed all prospects of a contained wapanime market where the Tumblr values could be isolated, leading the parasites to try and bend Japan itself). Also there's a >>>/co/ board.
>>1023110 The difference is it's treated considered a character flaw born of a reasonable place (he's the older brother and a warrior by trade. It's literally his duty to protect her.) Katara gets herself into plenty of messes as a result of not listening to her brother and the series also makes a point of establishing that, despite being a goof, Sokka is actually the smartest of the group and the only one of them with a mind for any real strategy or detailed planning. >>1023107 OG series is good. First season of Korra is meh and rest is awful, and I'm someone who actually loves the concept of a fantasy world advancing in "real" technology and not just magitek.
>>1023116 >destroyed all prospects of a contained wapanime market I would say it was more delayed. Shit like Castlevania, the new superman, and the new LOTR dogshit show that unfortunately such things are still in demand of sorts. >>1023117 Sokka also seems to get the most bitches in the show despite being the butt of so many jokes. 4 different characters wanted his dick.
>>1023116 This.
>>1023116 >>1023121 You probably could also chalk it up to being the culmination of all the action cartoons of the 90's and early 2000's, especially the not quite anime shows like teen titans. Which drew in a lot of late millennials and early zoomers, who would have been the perfect age to watch it as kids and have nostalgia for it.
>>1023107 >What redeems it in spite of it probably being gay shit? First of all it's not gay shit, second of all it's remembered for it's world building, the way characters interact one with another and their growth as well, cool action set pieces and the right balance between comedic and serious moments. It's not the greatest show ever I didn't really like how Aang solved the conflict with Ozai, nor the way he got back his Avatar state, plus 2 or 3 bad episodes, I give it an 8/10 which means that it's worth checking out. >it's a lot of the usual anti-White shit like worship of the broken/minorities and shit. It's literally not about that at all, might as well say that anime fans are the anti-White shit for worship of the broken/minorities and shit.
>>1023146 >It's literally not about that at all, might as well say that anime fans are the anti-White shit for worship of the broken/minorities and shit. Sometimes people get redpill poisoning, or are so burned out by current year chicanery that they ascribe everything not wearing a Reichsadler and throwing out roman salutes as current year garbage. Mostly in the same way feminists see the patriarchy around every corner, or commies see everything as class struggle.
>>1022673 >>1022683 >>1022695 Shouldn't they be called the Uparitar then?
>>1023107 >it sounds pretty typical for western studios where it's a lot of the usual anti-White shit like worship of the broken/minorities and shit. What redeems it in spite of it probably being gay shit? How do retards like you even function in society?
>>1023116 >destroyed all prospects of a contained wapanime market >>1023118 >I would say it was more delayed. Don’t forget Korra encourage the creation of the pozzed reboots of She-Ra and Voltron
>>1023154 yeah, that is cultural aids, literally, its an auto-inmune response, or perhaps an allergy, but we don't have cultural epipens
>>1023116 >early example to point to that making your protag female and gay-pandering will kill your IP Making her female wasn't really a problem, as even during TLA, the previous Earth and Air Avatars were female(the Air one was a tyrannical Avatar that kept the peace by having the biggest stick and not being afraid of using it, while the Earth one just wanted to be left alone, but did create the Dai Li who are glow in the dark chinks, with their own Mk Ultra program), plus she was kinda hot. The problem with Korra was that she was an unapologetical bitch, a marry sue and home wrecker that never truly learned from her mistakes. Truly, the Water Avatars are the worst ones. The fact that she became a lesbian was a last minute decision, in the hopes of getting more views for their failing show(by that point it was no longer broadcasted on Nickelodeon and became an online only show), reminder that she lusted for Mako, a dude, so much so she cucked Asami, and once she was no longer interested in Mako, she went for Asami.
>>1023116 E;R is an annoying fuck who can't concisely edit to save his life, why do people like him
>>1023193 He's a funny /pol/ack that is able to be subtle enough to not get banned, while also throwing a redpill from time to time. If memory serves right, he became famous for his Star Wars reviews, which were the third most popular sequel reviews back then, and remember that it was a time when RedLetterMedia and Plinket where positive on the sequel trilogy.

>>1023273 >The Legend of Korra was better than Avatar: The Last Airbender
>>1023263 Fuck it sounds like E;R is the bad end version of sseth.
>>1023349 Sseth has been sanitizing himself for years now. He still makes solid content, but it lacks the edge of his earlier years by far.
>>1023273 If Korra is so good where is Korra 2 :)
>>1023406 We're talking about Korra here though, which is neither.
>>1023442 But where is the sequel
>>1023444 Nice trips.

>>1023444 I guess there was that comic where Korra and Asami made out the whole time, Aang and Katara's daughter said she's always been gay actually and then Kiyoshi was said to be gay too and that was pretty much the whole point of it.

>>1023196 >>1023193 His jokes can actually be insanely subtle. Webm not related although it's a good clip to include. He has a form of autism that lets him remember small details and when who said what from some shitty TV show. One of my favorite jokes of his is from some hollywood show where the Mona Lisa was on display in some private billionaire's house, and E;R said it was very unbelievable that the French would let some non-French individual hold on to the genuine article Mona Lisa, to which he said "Well, I'm sure the French would surrender everything of theirs...in due time" and simultaneously shows a brief clip from second webm related of a Japanese woman realizing that Paris looks like Africa. Just one example of the crazy subtle and meta jokes he makes very often. It's the main reason I like him.
(256.76 KB 504x375 1488762884094.png)

>>1023107 Nothing really redeemed it for it, I didn't mind some of the jokes or the writing but I never once cared for the show since it just meandered around and did nothing interesting with the premise. People like the blind bitch I guess and the le funny old man voiced by Aku.
>>1023472 That's somewhat fair, for a "serialized" show, it really did a lot of "problem/enemy of the week" type shit, save towards the end of each book.
>>1023463 that's as subtle as a sledge to the nuts
>>1024147 Subtle or not, red pilling is good and France filling up with fucking niggers is horrific.
